He was patient, actively listened to what I needed, and was great at communicating options. Every time I look out at my view (now finished!) I am so grateful I hired him. The details: I've now hired Ryan for three multi-phase projects in the last five years. The first was to fix a large bulkhead, which involved substantial demolition and re-creation of roughly half my waterfront frontage. He was fixing a prior contractor's job and my neighbor had recommended Ryan to come in and fix it. He was amazing! Totally rescued me. I hired him again a short while later to fix up my floating dock, with equally great results. Both were multi-stage designs involving heavy construction, marine/tidal considerations, and attentive neighbors and regulators. "Flawless execution" is as best as I can describe it. Recently, I hired Ryan for a third time - this time to re-build the entirety of another property's bulkhead and dock re-installation. It was something my grandfather had built generations ago, so included (for me) much emotional attachment. Ryan couldn't have been nicer, more kind, or more generous in his flexibility about partnering in that project. Lots of family history that I simply wouldn't trust to anyone else. Although the stuff he built will easily last another two generations, I would happily hire Ryan again. He made these huge, "once-in-a-lifetime" projects not just successful, but enjoyable. The highest recommendation I can give him would simply be to add that I have now trusted Ryan (three times) with my most significant assets, and he's proven to be a guy that is not only capable of adding value, but one that respects the role he's in and partners well with his client. He set up an appointment to meet with us right away and sent over a very professional, detailed quote the same day. He got us on his schedule quickly and completed the job to absolute perfection. Five years ago we had carpet installed and were left with an annoying gap between the carpet and the baseboard. It drove me crazy! Carl not only handled the installation beautifully, but he also made sure the new padding was thick enough to eliminate that gap entirely. A problem that bothered me for five years - gone in one day thanks to Carl. Fast, professional, detail-oriented, and genuinely thoughtful. We couldn't recommend him more!

On the first day on the renovation, we went through all the details of changes we wanted to make with his team. Somehow, these details never came to fruition. They did a great job with the drywall, painting, and tub installation - however, their tile work in the shower is subpar (the tiles were placed crooked and we had to go in to regrout ourselves). We previously had plumbing work done, so the cabinetry underneath the vanity had to be replaced. Better Call Carl figured the best way to do this was to just patchwork plywood (we went back ourselves to fix). He also didn't see the need for continuous baseboards (see photo). The biggest problem we have is with the floors - we also had terrazzo floor tiles placed and confirmed with the team prior to starting that there were enough tiles to complete the project. The floor is not up to industry standard nor ADA requirements. The grout lines are all different sizes and the actual tiles are not level, resulting in a trip hazard. There are also tiles that have been chipped both during and after installation. We reached out to Better Call Carl after work was complete to see if he could replace the floor - he was reluctant to come back, but he did end up replacing two tiles (out of 21). Even after the second round, the floor is a little more level, but nowhere near the standard or expectation. There are still chipped tiles, uneven grout lines, and tiles that are not level. We will be buying new tiles and having the floor redone, so we asked for a partial refund (for just the work on the floor), which was denied. We then tried to see if there was any other resolution we could agree on since Better Call Carl claims he has a one-year warranty. He refused to uphold his warranty. We'll be going with another professional from here on and would not recommend Better Call Carl to anyone.

The stain was an oil base and after it was applied, the deck was slippery. My grandson and I both slipped and fell on the deck. After talking to his worker, he said it shouldn't be slippery. Also, after morning mist, we noticed mold or algae coming through. After two weeks , Justin couldn't solve the problem. He did send someone to power wash the deck which took away the excess oil however the algae or mold is still present. The owner, Justin, says there is nothing else that could be done and refuses to remedy this issue. I WOULD NOT recommend this company or individual to work on any part of my house again. There is no follow through and after he gets his money he is on to the next job.
