When no one was available, Tom worked us into his schedule…read more On a rainy Sunday night my family and I became aware of rats having gnawed through our plastic (PEX/SHARK-BITE) water lines in the crawlspace beneath our Centralia home. We shut off our main and drained all the lines until I could get help repairing the line(s). I called a plumber or two that night and left messages requesting emergency service. Monday morning (raining again) while I was at work in Olympia, my wife found out that most Lewis County plumbers were not available until Friday or later. She did an internet search, found Tom's Plumbing Repair on YELP.com, and gave him a call. He scheduled us for Tuesday at 9:00 AM. I scheduled the day off from work to lend any assistance I could. On Tuesday (still raining) Tom and his assistant, Sam, showed up on time. They were friendly, focused, thorough and seemed very genuine. After listening to my story, they went straight to work. Together they found and replaced not just one, but four (4) gnawed sections of pipe. We tested the line a few times, and my house was back in business at 10:00 AM! Tom charged about a third of what I expected to pay! Plus he and Sam shared with me a very valuable tip: IF YOU USE PLASTIC PLUMBING LINES IN YOUR BUILDING, NEVER PLACE RODENT POISONS INSIDE ENCLOSED SPACES. Traps are good, as you will want to see and remove the kill. But poisons can cause trouble indoors. The rats/mice who eat it will desperately want to quench their thirst, even if it means chewing through your plastic pipes to get at the rushing water. LEAVE THE POISONS TO OUTDOOR USE ONLY! Started out with small jobs and then we had him re-plumb our whole house. (Plumbing was in the ceiling and we had it all moved to under the house). They have always done a great job for us. Last Saturday, I had a copper pipe burst at the hot water tank. I of course called Tom. Since he is not open on the weekends, but I called him. Not sure what I paid $270 for…read more First, the man handling the scheduling was extremely rude and aggressive, which made for a poor experience before the appointment even began. When they finally arrived, the tech spent less than 20 minutes total cleaning my fireplace. From what I could tell, the only thing he cleaned was the stovepipe, which took less than 10 minutes. All the soot and ashes were left in the firebox, and the glass door was still filthy. For $270, I expected a much more thorough cleaning and professional service. Instead, I essentially paid someone to run a brush through my stovepipe and leave the rest untouched. Very disappointing experience and definitely not worth the money.

Definitely avoid these guys (David Ouellette and Master Electric). I hired them to install a GFCI…read moreoutlet in our crawlspace. First issue we have: they installed the wrong kind of breaker, which was caught when the inspector from L&I looked at it. So they came back and replaced it, and we assumed all was well. We didn't test the outlet (we assumed it worked) or even need it until this year with the heavy rains, when we noticed our crawl space sump pump wasn't working. I went under the house and figured out it's the outlet not working. (L&I inspector didn't bother to test it either when they inspected the breaker.) I called David, and he says it's out of warranty (one year, never stated anywhere, but he's claims that's the industry standard). So we get another electrician to look at it, and it turns out THE CIRCUIT DOESN'T EVEN CONNECT TO THE OUTLET. From new electricians' invoice: "Circuit was tied into wrong 10/2 wire. 10/2 wire from panel did not go to Junction box." New electricians had to place a whole new wire between box and panel, because there wasn't one! David claims the outlet/circuit must have been tested when installed, but it appears that was simply untrue. Oh, and they overcharged us too. They charged for 3 hours of work, even though they were here for 1.5. David agreed to lower the charge to 2 hours, but he argued that it was industry standard to charge for the time it takes to get to the job. I'm sorry, but it doesn't take 1.5 hours to get from Tenino to Olympia, even if it makes any sense to charge for that time. David even complained that he "took a hit" by reducing the charge. I'd say we took a hit by trusting these guys. Oh, and the electricians we hired to fix their mess only charged for the time they were here, not the "industry standard" David described.
