My insurance company won't cover the damage. My contract with him included a 10-year warranty for workmanship and forty years for the metal roof materials. And yet, six years after the installation, he refuses to honor his warranty and come fix the problem. This company, and the owner, are not honest and honorable. We asked them to come out to look and fix if need be. The technician came out but not able to "fit" (their words not mine) and could not fix the problem. They told us we had to call another company to come fix the issue. To add insult to injury we were charged $175 for this "service". We called the office to question and the lady was so rude, didn't care about this issue, and was nasty. Shortly after he left I got a call from Jeanine in billing. The amount was high (about double) from what I thought, so I asked her and she replied that it was for 3.5 hours of service. She reiterated that it included commute time for the serviceman and also loading his truck with necessary supplies. Minimal supplies were needed. According to Google we live 12 minutes from their office. Even round trip should take 25-30 minutes. So here is the timeline: The repairman arrived at my house promptly at 8:10. He worked until 9:40. That's 1.5 hours. Factor in 30 minutes for the commute and that equals 2 hours! According to Jeanine's timeline The young man would have showed up to work at 7:00 AM, loaded his truck with supplies which he didn't need until 7:55, drove to my house at 8:10, worked until 9:40, drove back to the office by 9:55, handed in his paperwork, only to have Jeanine call me at 10:30 to equal 3.5 hours. The material Charlie uses was #2 in quality and there was very little difference (except price) between the #1 and the #2 brand. He arrived exactly on time for the appointment and provided a bid the same day. I selected his bid out of three because I believe in supporting local, small businesses plus his bid was much more reasonable than the other small business. I also referenced checked the heck out of his company, and the products he uses, and was pleased with my results. When I accepted the bid, he called me right away to set the start date and time. On the day we scheduled, his crew showed up on time, on the dot, and began working. They were pleasant, respectful of my property and cleaned up at the end of each day. It was fun watching them work, they were like a well oiled machine. At the end of the second day, Carlos called to let me know they'd be back for a couple more hours in the am to finish up and to make sure everything was cleaned up. We then arranged a time for me to pay him the balance owed and he showed up on time again. Such a great company and business model, I highly recommend Charlie Roofing, Carlos was very respectful, appreciative, and a pleasure to work with. He made the whole process pleasant.

The quoting process was smooth enough and the quote was competitive so we wrote a deposit check and were told the roof install would happen the 2nd week of August. A couple weeks before they were supposed to come, my boyfriend checked in to confirm we were still on track for that week. They didn't know who he was (though they had communicated quite a bit) and once they figured it out, they said they were delayed 2 weeks. That process repeated itself several times (who is this? Oh 2 more weeks) until they finally showed up with 1 day notice in late September/early October. It caused a 2 month delay with the rest of our home remodeling while waiting for the roof to be done. We put a deposit down in June specifically to try to get it done as soon as possible in the summer. They ended up having to do quite a bit of sheeting on our house increasing the cost 20% and didn't communicate that until they sent us the final bill. It would have been nice to get a phone call within a day or so of finishing the job so we could budget for that additional cost. Overall: The work itself was done pretty well, the communication / customer service is more like a 0 star. We did talk to the guy about it, and he seemed to keep thinking we were saying the work was crap, even when we very clearly said the work was fine, it was the communication/customer service we had a problem with. He gave us a small discount which we finally just quit bothering w/ them as they don't seem to understand the customer element very well.

So, a few weeks ago a local handyman I know contacted GT for me and their estimator was out a week later. We negotiated a great deal, signed a contract that day and scheduled the work to be done whenever the wind and rain finally took a break. That day was today! The GT crew showed up at 8 AM and worked as a coordinated team of roofing ninjas. They tore off the old comp, replaced rotted plywood over the eves, laid down new laminated "paper", hand nailed the new much more attractive modern style composition roofing shingles, the old roof ridge vent, the boots around the plumbing vents, added flashing, and, naturally, they cleaned up every speck of debris from the tear-off. The last truck rolled away just before 1 PM, so in less than 5 hours they did an impressive job from start to finish. My husband and I couldn't be happier about the incredibly professional work GT Roofing did for us!
