Yikes..... yikes. Service tech was awful. Lazy and SHADY! Claimed he couldn't detect for a Freon leak until he charged me $2,700 to fill the system of Freon! He never even mentioned you can detect using Nitrogen, which is FREE/ included in diagnostic check. Management did apologize for this tech and was nice. Outstanding HVAC Service from Stoney and Colin Stoney and Colin did an excellent job replacing 2 condenser units at my home. Even on a scorching day, 98 degrees with a heat index of 102, they never slowed down. They were professional, punctual, provided us with an ETA, and clearly knew their trade. All floors were well protected. My wife works remotely, and never heard them while they were in the house. They explained everything in a way that was easy to for my wife and I to understand, answered all our questions, and made sure the new system was running perfectly before they left. Very professional company. Great employees who are good at their jobs from the office staff to the estimator to the installers. We purchased a new AC/HVAC Unit. We got our estimate on a Saturday and had financing within minutes. The new unit was installed on Wednesday, and we were nice and cool. Great efficient unit too. I see other reviews about prices of parts to fix older units, and I can tell you that I called around and went through the same thing with other companies. In fact, we paid another company $500 and our unit was still not operational, and they quoted us about 6K to "get us through the summer." So, we went with GSM. It is just more effective to purchase a new one and with the financing options from GSM it was a breeze to do. I hope to purchase a home standby generator from them soon too. read more

I called GSM or Gastonia Sheet Metal due to my parents capacitor going out on their air unit. The guys came out quickly on Friday. Showed me a price of the capacitor that was causing the fan not to run. $404.00 was the cheapest capacitor he could sell me. After telling someone how much I was charged they told me if I looked up the price for that it would make me sick.. it did. The cheapest capacitor I found online was $7.97 and it literally took 4-5 minutes to put it on. YOU WOULD THINK BEING A HEATING AND AIR BUSINESS YOU WOULD GET PARTS AT A DISCOUNT! This goes ON EVERY YEAR having this air fixed. Hell, I know people who have had their unit 20 years with NO problems! We called Duke on 3/13/2023 and the rep told me that no rebates were submitted by GSM on our behalf. Then I received the following message from Tim. I just couldn't believe it. We have been receiving messages and emails like this and more from Tim and Becky that we are in contact with our representative with Duke and you should be receiving your rebates soon. Please read through these chain emails. All this is that rebates were never submitted to Duke. We were getting the runaround. Poor customer service. We were told that someone from management will be contacting us soon and it's been a week with no response from them. Tim mentioned in his message below that Duke is issuing new cards today! Since you didn't fill the rebates, how do you expect Duke to send the rebate cards? It's been seven months since the systems and smart thermostats were installed and they cost us $47000.00 and this is how you treat your customers. You completely lost our trust with telling us stories and not doing your job. "Duke says that they sent out the cards weeks ago. We told them they were never received by the customer, so they are issuing new cards today. Bad customer service. I called to get help with my air conditioner. I asked if they serviced my area Amanda said yes. When I told her I have an old unit her voice changed and she hesitated then she said a tech would call me back shortly. No one called all night. The next morning Amanda called and said sorry we don't service your area. I found out from a friend that they do service my area they just didn't want to work on an older unit. Very bad customer service. Also if that was true the technician should have called back that night and informed me. I waited on a call all night. Horrible is the only word to describe the incompetent, uncaring experience I had yesterday. I had a 2:00pm appointment to have a winter check of my system at our vacation home. It took me an hour to travel there. The Technician appeared with a paper filter in his hand asking what kind of system I had. Now, they have been servicing this home for 5 or 6 years and the Technician didn't know that it does not use paper filers or even what kind of unit it was? The Technician said he was only told to go to the address, service the unit and he had no idea what it was. He then asked where the unit was and soon came back and said he couldn't service it because it was raining and I would have to schedule another appointment. So, the company, knowing what kind of unit I had and apparently that it could not be serviced in the rain, sent a Technician who had no knowledge of my unit in the rain only to tell me that I would have to make another appointment and waste another day traveling to the home. When I finally got to talk to a supervisor (this took about 45 min.) He said they were not perfect and made mistakes (an understatement for sure) and could not explain why he sent an unknowledgeable Technician in the rain when he should have know that the unit could not be serviced in the rain and offered no consideration for their mistakes. I was charged $96 against my account. After three hours, the Technician said the rain slacked off and he had been able to do the service after all. I can only wonder if this is true. So, being a preferred customer paying some $23.00 per month for 5 or 6 years accomplishes nothing with this company. They apparently don't keep records of who you are or what equipment you have and send Technicians who can't work in the rain, on a rainy day to your home knowing nothing about your system, its history or requirements. Then they expect you to make another appointment, waste another day when it was their fault that caused this. read more

Piss poor service and installation. Left all the trash from the tearout of old unit and the trash from installing the new unit under the crawl space. I was having problems with high humidity in my crawl space. GSM installed a dehumidifier which solved the problem completely for a fraction of the price others were quoting me for a complete redo of my vapor barrier and installing a complicated ATMOX system. The installers were all great to work with and they even came back for a quality check a few months later to see how things were working free of charge. I will definitely use GSM again! read more

True story.....Our upstairs unit had stopped cooling, so we called GSM to come out & take a look. They inspected & told us the compressor had gone bad...minimum of $2k & that we should really just put a new unit in....average $7.5K because there were "probably" other issues with it. We decided to get a second opinion & called Morris Jenkins. There technician came out & inspected it for 10 minutes. He let us know that the compressor was fine & that a $500 switch just needed to be replaced. The Morris Jenkins tech wasn't sure if the GSM had even looked at the compressor. New arrival in Gastonia and the first deep cold snap I had no heat; just the fan blowing. Aux heat did not function and the compressor disconnects below a certain temperature. Called GSM after checking their many 5 star reviews. They did not disappoint. 10 minutes into the visit their tech found the problem: a loose connection in the thermostat. No expensive parts needed, just 10 second tightening of a tiny screw! The tech and his assistant were excellent. Fast, friendly and professional. Gsm will always be my first call when I have a HVAC problem! No wonder they've been in business so long. read more

We recently had a new HVAC system installed by GSM. Also, a wonderful steam humidifier. The price was exactly what they quoted and the performance of the system is even better than we expected. We had one minor issue after the installation and they addressed it immediately. I admire the fact that GSM employees are obviously proud of the company's reputation and consistently go above and beyond to maintain the trust of their customers. We always appreciate their commitment to excellence which is certainly reflected in their products, services and, most importantly, in their employees. We've been GSM customers for over 20 years. **Update, GSM did come and finish the job I was under the impression was to be done from the beginning (plus added some plastic barrier in my crawl space they saw was needed to fill gaps as a nicety). I am only increasing my *'s from a 1 to a 2, though, since it shouldn't have been such a situation with 4 active days at my house to resolution. In the end I did finally get what I thought I was paying for to begin with, the owner, manager and employees were nice and pleasant - but again, the experience was riddled with errors and headaches for us all on multiple levels. (Original 1* post) I had a terrible experience with this company. THOUSANDS of dollars later I still have a bunch of things that were not done (was never quoted for additional stuff even though it was discussed during evaluation and was told it would be done in the process - WRONG!). Not to mention workers took 2.5 hrs worth of breaks during 6.5 hrs of time they tied up for me the first day. PLUS, the first day they only had about a third of the product to even do the job. Since they had failed on so many levels, I am unwilling to spend any more money with them, so resolution talks with owner (or "leadership team" or whomever) left me unsatisfied. But to be fair, I can't think of any resolution that will satisfy me at this point (although some effort or creative suggestions would have been appreciated). read more

GSM exceeded my expectations on a recent repair. They were able to come out the next day to diagnosis the system and discuss my repair options. Unfortunately, the blower motor had failed and required replacement. They worked with the manufacturer to determine the part's warranty eligibility. They quoted me a price to replace the motor and even honored that price after the manufacturer came back and clarified that the motor warranty had just expired. The technician was knowledgeable and friendly. He gladly explained the problem and showed me the failed part. I really appreciate the technician wearing boot covers when entering my home and laying down a rag to protect the floor. GSM is now my first choice for heating and air. I needed our attic insulation completely removed and replaced, and I called GSM Services because of their consistently high ratings. From the initial call, to their visit and estimate, I can see why their ratings are so high! Total professionalism, but it felt like I was talking to a personal friend. As others have stated, they were not in a hurry, answered all my questions, and even changed my appointment time when I had an unexpected conflict to better help me. Once Tim was here, I asked him if he could take a look at another issue I was having in my crawl space. He immediately said "of course" and spent another hour surveying and evaluating that issue. When he was finished, he provided me with multiple solutions to BOTH issues, giving me options from low-cost to more involved/expensive ones, to decide on. We have decided on the option to take and have scheduled the work in October.....even that was done with our convenience in mind! I plan to update this review after the work is completed, but if it's even close to the initial customer service, I will be very pleased!! read more

Very disappointed in an over the phone quote. I called GSM on 5/19 since they installed my system a little over 5 years ago to get a quote on changing a bad metering device. Well after getting a quote of between 700 and 950 dollars being mechanically inclined I called a friend that is a contractor. We picked up the part at a business in charlotte after business hours. Part 41.03 to get shop to open another 50. My buddy and myself installed the part and had A/C back where it needed to be in 1 hour 20 minutes total. That's counting driving time to charlotte, replacing part, pressure testing system to make sure no leak before releasing 410 back out of compressor, and system back at 100%. I know most people can not do this on their own, but seems 700-900 for 1hr20min and a 41 dollar part is a bit steep! read more
