We love stopping at White Sail to grab a loaf of bread and one of their delicious squares…read more Today we decided to grab lunch and enjoy it on one of the picnic tables outside. It was quite expensive for what it was. For two turkey sandwiches (with no side), a loaf of bread and two squares it was almost $50! The sandwiches were mediocre. The ingredients and bread were all fine - but that's it, just fine. Definitely not worth the price - it would have been $3-$4 cheaper to get a hamburger than it was a plain turkey sandwich. It was a hit and a miss - we'll keep going back for a sweet treat but in the nicest way possible you can get a much better and cheaper lunch elsewhere.

Our resident vegetarian even made an exception and tried some. Even something as unassuming as a grilled cheese sandwich? The BEST grilled cheese I've ever had. Delicious cheddar, perfectly grilled to the crispiest, crunchiest, tastiest, yum level ever. I'd tell you about my son's burger but he inhaled it so fast I couldn't get an accurate description other than it was "10/10, would eat again." And they had ice cream! Though we were full. Others stopped by just for that. If you're on the way to Peggy's Cove or on the way back, you HAVE TO STOP HERE. Oh, we had some cherry square/bar that was great

Tunisian Dude specializes in street food, with a very lean menu that's comprises of a handful of sandwiches. Their stuffed baguette piqued my interest and I hunkered down to eat at the bar seating by their front window, taking in the suburban sights of Herring Cove Road. While waiting for my food, I saw the very affable, patient owner handle some older, less adventurous eaters through the menu and I was impressed with his people skills, all the more so since I'm not sure they're something I possess anymore after many blessed years of not being in customer service. When I got my sandwich, it was a sight to behold - thin, crisp bread was absolutely *crammed* with beef (chicken and tofu versions are also available), cheese and sautéed veg. The earthy seasoning was flavourful but still very approachable, and my selected level of spice (3 out of 5) had a pleasant zing without overshadowing the other flavours. This is an absolute hot mess of a sandwich, in the very best way! A small side of fries was of the coated variety, and while some good hand-cut fries are always preferred, these were a safe bet and still hit the spot. Tunisian Dude may be off the beaten path, but you're got to try this this unique restaurant slinging some delicious Tunisian bites!

The egg was perfectly yolkie, and together with the ham and seasonings, made it a fantastic savory dish. The servers was phenomenal. She had a wonderful smile, was kind, quick, and made pleasant jokes/small talk. The place is small, but was pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon. Highly recommend this place if you are in Halifax.

I arrived in Halifax late tonight for work and had my heart set on a lobster roll. The Canteen popped up on the map with glowing reviews, so I swung by hoping to grab one before they closed. When I arrived, I learned that lobster rolls are only served in the summer. Disappointed but undeterred, I decided to treat myself to their lobster spaghettini instead--after all, a business trip still deserves a good meal. Since they were about to close and I wanted to eat in my hotel room and rest, I got it to go (though I was quietly a little sad--the restaurant is spotless, beautifully designed, and has an open kitchen you can watch). I brought the pasta back to the hotel without much expectation. At first glance, it looked like an ordinary take-out pasta. But that couldn't have been further from the truth. This dish was divine. Every bite was rich with buttery sweetness from the fresh lobster and nutty Parmigiano-Reggiano--two of my absolute favorite ingredients--perfectly balanced by the bright tang of roasted tomatoes. The flavors danced between umami, acidity, and indulgent richness in a way that felt effortless and refined. God, it was good. I can't wait to come back to The Canteen. If this is what their lobster spaghettini tastes like, I can only imagine how incredible their summer lobster rolls must be.
