So this was the first time we tried this restaurant for a delivery and had the Margarita and the Stephanie pizzas. Having been to Naples and had eaten Italian pizza I must admit I was a bit skeptical that even with their advertised VPN certification that it would come close to the real thing. Well cancel that trip to Italy - (at least to eat pizza.) This pizza is the real deal. The crust - the sauce - the mozzarella - exquisite!!! Both were so delicious and what other restaurant double boxes their pizza and tells you how to heat up the leftovers??? As if there would be any leftovers??? Well done - Piatto moves into my #1 pizza position! Cannot recommend it highly enough...

We had a bad experience at a previous estimate restaurant and never got our food. We stumbled upon this pizza place and went in so hungry! They have a saying in Italian that says "that you do not age while you are eating". Our waitress Shelby was amazing! She promptly brought us waters and our much needed adult beverages. We ordered a lunch special which was a 9 inch pizza and a salad. We both got the caprese salad. It was incredible! For pizza (see pictures for all) we got the Sicilian and the white pizza with Canadian bacon. Both were incredible along with the service! We recommended this place!

The weekly special... basic pizza plus chicken and roasted red peppers.

Touring the Maritime provinces on holiday this week. After a few too m at seafood meals, we were in the mood for pizza. We love the brick oven fired Neopolitan style and we're excited the find thus place. The restaurant itself is charming with photos from Italy and several Italian scooters lying about. I wish I liked the pizza more but it was a bit bland. The crust was perfectly cooked with balanced flavors and texture. The toppings were sparse and honestly lacking in flavor. The arugula on my husbands was wilted. The chicken in mine was dry. My son, save the lack of cheese, did enjoy his. But he is a 12 year old boy who will eat lots and lots of anything if hungry enough.

Another great spot in Halifax! Piatto was right down the street from my hotel (Westin) and we strolled down for a tasting dinner with some of my local friends. You know a place is good when the locals bring you. Tons of great wood fired pizza. Their oven is NO joke & all of their restaurants use "ingredients and procedures protected by the Italian governing association so you taste a "true Neapolitan pizza the way you would in Naples, Italy. Piatto is the first pizzeria in Atlantic Canada to receive the prestigious VPN-certification from Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (VPN)." We tried pretty much every pizza they have as well as they their Charcuterie plate and the meatballs - oh my gosh, all were great. I loved the open atmosphere of the place - super casual but also upscale. Their pizza oven is a beautiful sight to behold and almost a work of art. Their wine selection is great too - we tried several different bottles because, let's face, I wasnt driving! I tried their Amarone del Vallipocelli and the Poggio al Tufo Rompicollo Sangiovese / Cab Sauv. - both from Tommasi Family Estates (which I've visited in Italy!) - loved both!! Don't miss this spot if you are in Halifax..... or St. Johns or Moncton, New Brunswick, or Charlottetown, PEI.

My girlfriends and I decided we were going to try a new restaurant every other weekend. We work near Piatto and that was going to be first on our list. This was when it first opened - things came up and our plans went downhill. But - last weekend we started it back up again and Piatto was suggested right away! The restaurant itself is very nice - they did very well with the layout and décor. There is plenty of comfortable seating and you can even watch them as they wood-oven-cook your pizza! (or somebody else's) I found their service awesome! From suggesting wine and offering samples, giving their advice on menu options and ensuring everything with our meal was perfect; the service here cannot be compared. Not only was our servicer keeping an eye on our table; a woman seemed to be the manager was also roaming the floors ensuring everything was going smoothly. We started with the "Salumeria Piatto" - which a essentially an Italian meat and cheese plate with olives, roasted red peppers and garlic flat bread. It's a great plate to share! I made a poor pizza choice. I don't even remember the name of it, and I don't see it on their online menu. But - it was very bland. It was a "white pizza", meaning no tomato sauce with a cream or garlic base instead, with prosciutto and arugula - I think! A friend of mine ordered "Stephanie", which is also a white pizza; with goat cheese, caramelized pears and crispy prosciutto. I totally traded a piece of mine for hers - I got the better end of that deal, because her choice was really, really good. Aahhh, next time! We all saved room for dessert. My girlfriends both ordered the Limoncello tart and said it was delicious and very lemony (it looked a little on the smaller side to me - but with it being lemon it was probably the perfect size!). I ordered the Tiramisu and would order it again. It was a whole bunch of creamy, espresso-y goodness! The prices for the appetizer and the dessert were pretty decent. The pizzas are quite pricey, ranging from about 14-17 dollars each. My meal: spit appetizer (between three), pizza and dessert with one glass of wine, was about $50.00 with tip. Considering the portion sizes and quality of the meal, I'm definitely not complaining - I just wish I made a better pizza choice!

Where's the meat? Terrible quality, no toppings, NOT worth $20

Went for a birthday dinner, the atmosphere is kind of bland. Basic tables, strange layout. So zero points for vibe at this place. Never been here before, I asked the server a few questions, She seemed to be indifferent and did not leave anything memorable on us about her. Good points: great latte, perfect tiramisu, nice presentation of the food. Not so hot: $20 pizza that had 3 types of meat that you couldn't find... very sparse toppings for what they charge. Very forgettable pizza. Not worth the $$$! Will not go back.

Liquid gold with the pizza. A nice touch

I came here the other week for a work outing. I got a lunch special, which was a personal size pizza and a salad. I haven't stopped raving about it since! I've already made plans for the next pizza I will be trying the next time I'm there. This time I had the pancetta white sauce pizza. I'm not sure what the exact name is, but it was so good! It will be hard to force myself to branch out. I also had the goat cheese beat salad, sans walnuts. It was amazing! My co-worker recommended it, or else I would have been like... beats and goat cheese... are you sure? Trust me, I'm sure. it was a really great mix. My friend was telling me, that they are VPN certified, which means they source their tomatoes from a special place in Italy or somewhere that has volcanic soil. They use a super special wood oven that's also certified. I obviously know lots about this certification. But really, I know that it's special, and you can really taste the quality and care they obviously have for making pizza! The special touches I like: We got a sample of the soup of the day in a little mason jar. I thought that was cute, and a really great idea to get people to test it out before ordering. I went with salad instead of soup on the recommendation of a co-worker. I LOVED that they put Liquid Gold olive oil on the table. I've always wanted to try it out, and buy a bottle, but it's too rich for my blood. After tasting it, I might have to bite the bullet and buy some for special occasions.

I am a huge pizza fan so when I saw that this place was going to open in June I was super happy and counting the days until it opened. I finally got to try it out today and my taste buds were in heaven! The service was very friendly. A bit of a wait for the pizza but it was very busy and hey, perfection takes time. ;) I had the lunch special which is a 9" pizza and salad for $12.99. I got the Noce e Arugula salad which has a very creamy and perfectly sharp blue cheese, crispy candied walnuts, dried cranberries and balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The arugula was super fresh, no wilt at all. For the pizza I got the Americana which is a pepperoni pizza. I think the fact that they cook the pizzas in a wood burning oven really makes a difference to how it tastes. The crust was perfectly done and the sauce was simple but very tasty and there was just the right amount. The pepperoni was cut a nice thickness and it had a very good flavor and was mild. If you want a bit of kick you can put some spicy oil or chilli flakes on top. Dessert.....Oh my. I got the Dolce de Leche tart which was to die for! Chocolate on the inside then topped with a very generous amount of creamy caramel and sprinkled with a bit of shaved sea salt. Sweet and salty. A match made in heaven! I could have eaten ten more of them! I can't wait to go back again to try something else! Give this place a try. You won't be disappointed!

However, the food simply did not deliver on what I expected from a gastropub, nor did it live up to the positive reviews I'd read beforehand. As a gastropub, one anticipates elevated, thoughtfully crafted dishes that showcase culinary skill and quality ingredients. What I encountered instead were dishes that fell short of those standards. The execution lacked the precision and care you'd expect at this price point, and the flavors didn't justify the gastropub positioning. I came with high expectations based on what others have praised here, but the food experience left me disappointed. While the service and ambiance have merit, they can't compensate for a fundamental letdown on the plate. For a gastropub to succeed, the food needs to be the star--and unfortunately, that's where The Stubborn Goat missed the mark for me.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Excellent little French Bistro on…read morethe ground floor of a residential apartment building. Delicious food, smaller servings, but proportionately lower prices. The Long Version: We had planned to go to Le Bistro by Liz on our last trip to Halifax, but we couldn't because the restaurant was unexpectedly closed due to some emergency or it was closed for a private function, I forget, but I made a note to try again the next time we were in town. So on our most recent visit we made specific plans to go and I'm so glad we finally made it there. This place is very popular! We almost didn't get a table. We didn't make reservations because while on vacation, I like to do things on my own time and don't like committing to being at a certain place at a certain time. We arrived at 5:15pm thinking it wouldn't be busy because it was early to eat, but many tables were full. We were advised we could have a table but would need to leave by 6:30pm because they had a reservation then. Hey if they can serve us that quickly, we were down for a quick meal. I got the Seafood Florentine Crepe ($22.95) and my husband got the Seafood Risotto ($29.95). He also got a glass of Malbec ($17) and we shared the large Profiteroles ($10.95) for dessert. My Seafood Crepe had 2 large Digby scallops, 2 large shrimp and several pieces of salmon, all in a bechamel sauce with onions and spinach. It came with a mixed greens salad which was rather tiny. It was lettuce, one small wedge of tomato and a single slice of carrot. I asked for the dressing on the side and it came as requested. The crepe was delicious and I loved all the seafood in it. The sauce was very rich and creamy. The portion sizes are European (i.e. small, lol) but I felt this was a case of quality over quantity. Although I felt an extra handful of salad would have gone a long way. The salad looked more like a garnish to me than a true side dish. My husband's Seafood Risotto had 3 large Digby scallops and 2 large shrimp on top and small pieces of lobster mixed into the risotto. He really enjoyed his dish. It too was rich and creamy. We shared the large order of Profiteroles (2 profiteroles) and I was pleasantly surprised to see they plated it on 2 separate plates, so we had 1 profiterole each and each was covered in sliced almonds and chocolate sauce and caramel sauce. These were good but not as great as I imagined. The choux pastry didn't have that distinctive chew to it and perhaps was weighed down by too much sauce. Nonetheless, we enjoyed them. Service was courteous and attentive. Even though we were given a bottle of water for the table, our server topped off our waters when she saw they were running low. And we got our meals very quickly. We were out a few minutes before our 6:30pm deadline, lol. Decor is very cute with all things France, like Eiffel tower decorations, signage in French and things like that. Their menu lists prices in Canadian dollars and also in Euros. Not sure what exchange rate they use though, lol. So happy we got to try Le Bistro by Liz. (184)

When Halloween came around and my wife and I were looking for some easy eats before the onslaught…read moreof trick-or-treaters, admittedly, R&B Kitchen was not our first choice. Unfortunately, many other people had a similar first choice as us - pizza - and 40 demoralizing, failed calls to Yeah Yeahs nudged us toward our backup plan. Ordering was easy on Skip, with about ten options to choose from. The offerings are mainly Caribbean - oxtail and jerk chicken-based dishes figure prominently - as well as some Southern influences. We ordered a mix of things to try as much as possible, going for the jerk chicken, ox tail, and Canadian loaded mac and cheese. Our order was ready very quickly, barely longer than the drive to get it. Even with said drive, we probably got our food an hour quicker than a slammed pizza place would have been. It's hard to say which dish was the clear winner, as as all were well executed, but the loaded mac and cheese got the most oohs and ahhs. Topped with a hefty dose of Brothers pepperoni, bacon, ground beef, mushrooms and green pepper, it was like a works pizza on mac and cheese, and it definitely worked! The jerk chicken had a really good pop of flavour from its complex mix of savoury seasonings, including a zesty heat that definitely made itself known, but didn't set off any smoke detectors. The meat was deftly cooked as well, with the thigh and two drums tender but not dry and overcooked. A generous serving of rice and peas, coleslaw and cornbread rounded out a container that was on the edge of needing further structural support! My choice was the ox tail - I love the fatty, beefy mix of meat and sauce, and the pinwheel-like tail bones are weird and fun to me. R&B's ox tail was a very good rendition, checking every box. Some very large beans showed up to bulk up the dish even more, and rice and peas soaked up all the saucy goodness. R&B likely cheats a bit with their cornbread and adds flour, but it was light, fluffy and delicious, so hard to complain about. On my next time darkening their doorway, I was dining solo and opted for the BBQ ribs. When you pick up a takeout container and it's got some heft to it, you know you're in for a hearty meal, and while this dish might not check a lot of boxes on Canada's Food Guide, you're not going to be hungry afterward! Three large ribs were nestled on top of a heap of mac and cheese, with a dark glaze that was savoury and sweet - but not too sweet. The ribs were meaty, and bites came away in easy chunks, signaling a spot on cook. Not to be outdone, the baked mac and cheese was well-executed and while not as over-the-top as the loaded version, it was still a great example of this comfort food classic. The green beans were a tasty surprise because I didn't know that they not only had garlic in them, but they had a *lot* of garlic in them. Vampires take heed! A large chunk of cornbread completed the meal with a golden brown crust on top, and pleasant crumb. It wasn't quite as fluffy as a cornmeal-only cornbread, but I can't begrudge them some wheat flour to help hold things together. Consider this review a song of praise, because R&B Kitchen is hitting all the right notes, and next time we order, they'll be second fiddle to no one.
