On fire, making coals

Well above an average pizza place. Aside from the obvious open fire pizza, they have a great selection of pasta options - heavily weighted in the seafood direction, and good wine selections. Great service, great food. We had a large group gathering, and enjoyed the separate room.

Reasonable coffee, shame about the service. When I entered La Piazza, I was looking for a coffee to sit in with in a proper cup or mug. I was feeling fed up with takeaway coffee and the ubiquitous paper cups. Not to mention the fact that they are environmentally unfriendly! So, I entered the restaurant and sat down at a vacant table next to the door. I was a little reticent, given that there was no cutlery or napkins on it, unlike all the others. A man in a white shirt and jeans, who I took to be Italian and the owner was sitting at a table and stood up asking me if I was looking for a table for 1. (I have been corrected about the owner. He's Lebanese). I said "Yes, but just for coffee". He went behind the bar and asked which size I was looking for, showing me 2 very similarly sized paper cups. I was surprised at the lack of crockery given the surroundings. The owner then did something that is, in my opinion, quite unforgivable in a sit down restaurant. He immediately rang up my order and pressured me into paying immediately. I really hope the people eating pizza were not treated the same way. To top it all, the coffee was distinctly average. I doubt I will return.

Most recent visit: a sunny Wednesday in early Sept 2019 for lunch. Arrived at about 11:50 and were seated at a table by the window. Two other tables were taken at the time, out of maybe 10 - I'd guess seating for 30 altogether? Friendly service. I tried the SEAFOOD OLIO ~ shrimp, scallops and mussels sauté with garlic extra virgin olive oil, fresh parsley and chili flakes tossed with linguine... 24.00, which was a good sized portion. Basic, not overly strong in any flavor, but satisfying. My friend had the QUATRO SIAGIONI ~ Tomato sauce, sausage, pancetta, soppersatta, pepperoni & fresh mozzarella... 18.00 which is a lot for one person, but he managed to finish it off. Definitely not what I call a personal pizza, better to share. He liked it though, thinner crust, decent flavor sauce, not too much or too little topping. For dessert I tried the Chocolate Fondant (says $9 online but was $10 on the real menu). Small portion of lava cake that took 5-10 mins in the oven (which the server advised in advance), with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a large dollop of whipped cream, sliced strawberry - very tasty. I'd come back anytime.

Beautiful sunny seating!

Ordered the BBQ chicken pizza and got huge chunks of chicken. The BBQ sauce was just the right amount and didn't over power the pizza.

Tony's Donair & Pizza - The donair.

Tony's Donair & Pizza

North End

I found myself third wheeling my friends Gavin and Mikaela at Tony's Pizza & Donair, and honestly?…read moreIf you're going to be the third wheel, this is the place to do it. Tony's absolutely delivers when it comes to classic late-night comfort food. The pizza was loaded with toppings, perfectly cheesy, and had that ideal balance of a crisp crust with a soft, satisfying bite. Every slice held together and didn't feel skimpy -- exactly what you want when you're sharing (or silently judging who's eating more). The donair was just as solid: warm, well-seasoned meat, fresh toppings, and that sweet donair sauce that brings everything together. Messy in the best way, and packed with flavor from the first bite to the last napkin. The vibe at Tony's is casual and welcoming -- no frills, no pretending to be something it's not. Service was quick and friendly, even while the place was busy, and the food came out hot and fresh. While Gavin and Mikaela were doing their thing, I was fully locked in on the food -- and Tony's made it easy. Reliable, filling, and exactly what you're craving, whether you're on a date, with friends, or proudly third wheeling like me. Five stars. Third wheel approved. -- The Muncher

When I told people we were going to be making a port stop in Halifax, Nova Scotia I head from…read moreseveral people who said "You have GOT to try a donair in Halifax!". I'm not one to disagree with people when they tell me to try something local or something a place is known for. We were determined to find a donair during our hop-on/hop-off tour of Halifax. When doing our Google search we found that Tony's Donair and Pizza was about a block from one our stops and is noted for their donairs. Ok, easy enough. Our walk from our hop-on/hop-off stop was an easy one along a residential street and then along a larger thoroughfare. I was genuinely excited to try a donair, after hearing so much about them....and, incidentally, I was STARVING. Tony's Donair & Pizza is your typical hometown restaurant the apparently does more takeout than it does eat-in. There are only 2 or 3 tables, and you can tell the location is aged. Your order is placed at the counter and wait for your order to be called. There is no drink fountain, but a selection of beverages in a cooler. (YEAH, for Dr. Pepper®). I didn't know what to expect from a donair, really. Just that it's like a Gyro, but it has a sweeter sauce on it. I was not, in any way, disappointed. It was heavily stuffed with pita meat, whatever the mysterious sweet sauce is, and onions. A side of onion rings rounded out the meal nicely. The food was fresh and very tasty. The staff was friendly enough while appearing to be in a hurry to get something else done. It was around lunch time so I'm sure they had a lot of takeout orders to get made. All in all, a good visit. I can tell all of the people who said I had to get a donair that I did and I loved it.

Martha's Pizza II - Bacon Cheeseburger in the bag

Review is closer to a 1.3/5, or a 2/10. Ordered last night through Uber Eats. Ordered a large…read moredonair sub without veg, and a bacon cheeseburger with fries, without veg, and asked for some ketchup included. They very clearly don't bother reading the requests, because they had full veg on the sub, and onions on the burger. But that itself wasn't the problem... The food was just terrible. The sub fell apart upon opening, with the cheese and meat both falling off the bread immediately. Bread was both overly toasted and way too soft to hold the ingredients, and apparently the donair sauce was on the side with the burger and fries, something I wasn't told of. Reason I didn't look? Cause the entire container was open and just tossed in the bag without any care. The burger was overcooked and tasted of the grill, with the only reason it was edible at all being the okay bacon on top. The fries were actually alright, the only reason I wouldn't give it a straight 1, as they were crispy and tasted good, but I also know for a fact that they're the same kind of frozen fries you can get at the grocery store. But hey, not gonna judge, they were the best thing I got. Got two portions of donair sauce, they were okay, but again, wasn't informed they were even in the bag. All in all...Awful food from a place I know can make really good stuff. I understand it was Christmas, but if you can't make the same quality of food, there's no reason to be open at all during the holidays.
