I am baffled by all of the positive reviews of GS Exterior Experts and I seriously question the authenticity of them. My experience with Oswald and the rest of the GS Exterior Experts company has been a frustrating nightmare. My "3 week project" dragged on for months with a broken window still not replaced. It's been over a month since Oswald said he would have a crew at my home at 8:30am the following day to replace the window (photo attached). I have spent far too many days waiting at home for the owner, Oswald and/or his crew to NOT show up when they said they would. No explanations, no apologies, not even an acknowledgement of the missed appointments. After failing the county inspection twice, Oswald instructed me work directly with the subcontractor, who doesn't answer the phone, doesn't return voice messages and doesn't reply to texts. I have worked with enough quality contractors to confidently say that the way GS Exterior Experts operates is not normal. The company mentality seems to be "do the least that we can get away with". I found 13 screws that penetrated through three different window frames and drywall into my home during trim installation. I found windows that were only partially caulked, missing base caps, a gaping hole between the siding and the trim and furring strips so loose they could be wiggled with 2 fingers. Prior to signing a contract, Keith assured me that his crews are experienced in James Hardie siding and have been working with GS Exterior Experts for several years. Once on site, one of the two man crew installing Hardieboard siding on my home admitted that he's not a siding guy and had never worked with GS Exterior Experts before. The quality of the work confirms his admission. After the crew packed up and left, I was left with hundreds of nails, screws, food wrappers. drink containers and cigarette butts inside my garage, in the driveway, on my deck and around the perimeter of my home. They hire inexperienced sub contractors, who clearly do not have experience doing siding. They would either not show up when they stated they would or just show up at another time unannounced. Definitely a language barrier, most of them did not speak English so it was difficult to convey what I wanted done. The foreman, Oswald spoke English but he was frequently not there and was very unreliable. He would also not show up when he stated he would be there, or just show up another time unannounced. The girl who answers the phone was useless. She would often not pass along my email to the boss. Would never use them again. read more

Our experience was very positive. I dealt with Juan Vigil (by phone at office) and Oswald Hernandez (on-site). We had 50 year old siding removed and they replaced it with Hardie Board siding because of the new law for houses in the WUIF areas (it's fire resistant siding). GS are Hardie Board experts, and it was done very methodically and expertly. They brought in their own dumpster and PortaPotty for their crews. Every day, they cleaned up before leaving. The lights they had to remove to install the siding they replaced in a way that looked much better than before. I feel so much better with this new siding! read more

We had our patio enlarged, our deck completely rebuilt with Trex decking and a rain escape system, and had some siding replaced on our home. The project was completed very quickly and professionally. John Vigil came out and inspected my roof and found a huge problem - many shingles had blown away in a wind storm and my roof was compromised. He had someone out that afternoon to make it safe for me. There was rain expected that night so this was very important It was fixed completely the next day and I have not had a problem since. They were kind and professional. It was nice to hear someone say repair instead of just replace. I would recommend this company for your roofing needs. read more

The short version: Very good work for a competitive price, and company was very responsive. Would hire again. The long version: Hired Keith & GS for a whole home re-side with James Hardie cement board. The original sales pitch was very low pressure. Once we decided to go ahead, Keith was very responsive to multiple questions and e-mails I sent his way. The crew was efficient, completing the project well within the projected time frame. The only minor snafus were that the nail sweeps weren't as frequent as a neat freak like me would like, and it took a little extra back and forth messaging to get some minor issues post-main project taken care of. However, these are fairly minor quibbles. The work itself is of very good quality, and I would definitely hire this company again in future. read more

Keith and team recently did a siding project on my house. I could not be happier. He was great to work with and very patient as I decided to delay the project a few months for budget reasons. When I told him I wanted to delay I thought I wouldn't hear from him again. He kept in touch but didn't bother me, being very respectful of my timeline. He was helpful with color choices and suggestions on details and style. When they came out to actually do the job his team was on time, ahead of schedule, and they were very respectful of both me and my home/property. They did a great job on not just the siding but the clean up. When they were finished, I only found about three things I wanted them to follow up on and the items were so small I couldn't believe it! I researched 10 companies and received 5 bids from different siding companies to install James Hardie Fiber Cement Siding. I ended up choosing GS Exterior Experts over all the companies. The initial visit with John Vigil down to the crew install were all exceptional. They were priced more than a few companies but you get what you pay for. They were prompt, responsible, reasonable in their estimate (evidenced by the fact that my insurance company paid promptly and without argument). G&S Exteriors did several types of work for us this summer. Roof replacement, exterior painting, and window replacement. On the roof, they were 5 stars. Crew was fast! And they left the work site immaculate. On the ext paint, very good, 5 stars. They did a great job on the caulking. And our job ended up needing more paint than they quoted due to wood condition, and they ate the cost of that. Gutters - if I could give 6 stars I would. The installer was ingenious with how he worked with our roof lines, and the gutters look great. Windows - 3 stars. There were issues with install and in general the team that installed the windows seemed a little sloppier than the other crews. That being said, the price was a very fair price, and I would use them again, I would just be prepared for delays in the timeline. Overall, the highest rating goes to the communication about our jobs. John Vigil, our contact, kept us updated on everything and he was upfront with the problems encountered. We are looking at deck work next spring and I will definitely be calling John & G&S first to quote it. read more

My wife and I hired GS Exterior to place siding on our house, and overall I would recommend them. They do good work, they're affordable, and they're surprisingly fast. If you're looking for someone to install Hardie board on your house, I'd definitely call them for an estimate, and wouldn't hesitate at all to hire them again for similar work. Here are the specifics. HIGHS -- Email and phone correspondence are both OK. I work online and prefer communicating via email, and Ernest is happy to oblige. Other companies I talked to insisted on phone communication, and I don't like that for a few reasons...not the least of which is that I want a record of what is promised, etc. -- The GS Construction sales process was honest, low pressure, and straightforward...and excellent. I'd been quoted siding by two other companies before hiring GS, and both experiences left a lot to be desired. Salespeople at other companies really dragged us thru the mud, with long presentations and measuring sessions, trial closes, and attempts to entice us to "sign up now." Ernest was confident in his pricing, the company's great reviews online, etc., and didn't feel obliged to "sell" us. He just introduced himself, answered questions, measured the house in about 10 minutes, and then emailed a quote. He was happy to work out pricing for various options, etc., without ever demanding a commitment. -- Ernest was kind enough to do digital mock-ups of our house with the new siding. Very cool. -- The crew that installed the siding was fast, efficient, careful, and nice. You could tell they'd been working together for a while, had done a lot of jobs, and knew exactly what they were doing. -- The quality of the work is good. I'm not an expert on siding, but everything looks good. The lines are straight, there aren't any gaps, etc. -- Ernest was happy to provide suggestions and talk about options, including using different styles of siding and different color schemes. He did a great job of explaining our options while keeping things simple...some of the other siding salespeople I spoke with either a) didn't talk about options at all or b) bored me to tears with options. Ernest struck a great balance. LOWS -- As much as I appreciated Ernest's style and willingness to communicate via email, he wasn't super communicative when our install date was pushed back. We emailed to ask for an update after the install date came and went with no activity, to learn that they were a week or so behind. To be fair, our install took place right around Thanksgiving, so it might have been hard to meet the schedule. My advice to anyone hiring GS: We were not at all concerned about the precise start date, but I could see this being a problem from someone on a tight schedule. If you hire GS, you might plan for an extra week or two so you aren't "stuck." -- I would have appreciated a little more detail regarding the install process. I didn't realize, for example, that there would be a giant dumpster placed in front of my house for a week (not saying that they didn't tell me, just saying I didn't remember that fact). I also didn't consider the fact that noise/banging on the walls would freak out my dog (something I shared with Ernest to learn that, yes, this happens all the time), or that they crew might be working on Saturday to finish up. My advice to GS would be to put together a document/PDF with some tips for homeowners gleaned from their voluminous experience. -- While the siding crew was - quite frankly - amazing, the painting and gutter crews were sub-contracted and not completely co-ordinated. Painting was completed a couple of days after the siding was done (sort of by surprise, as we didn't know when they were going to show up), and the gutters were delayed a few days without much in the way of explanation. My issue isn't with the delays as much as with the communication. A phone call or email saying "Hey - the paint guys are coming Monday afternoon" or "The gutter guy caught the flu and won't be back for a week" would have been just fine for us. OVERALL RATING - GREAT Summing up, I'm very pleased with the result. They weren't the cheapest quote we got, but they weren't the most expensive either. All the reviews I found for them were postive, and my lows listed above are all very minor gripes. We're actually quite happy with the work the company has done and don't feel let down in any way. Very frustrated with the communication from them. I Called them on a Wednesday on a semi-urgent situation regarding our roof. They couldn't get someone out there until Monday for an estimate, which is totally understandable. They then pushed the appointment 2 hours later and then followed up with a text saying they looked at my residence on maps and it's too small to take on. The unit is a duplex that is somewhere around 1600sf total. Would have been nice if they could have told me during the initial conversation that they don't do new roofs under a certain size, rather than wasting my time. So in fairness to them, I have no idea how good their work is, I just know that their initial communication is not strong. read more

Amazing siders! These guys are literally experts. I can personally vouch for them considering they have resided both mine, and my parents home. They used James Hardie Siding, only the best products. Only took them about 5-6 days on each house and our homes are about 2500 square feet! They used to work for James Hardie corporate so you know they are the real deal. Keith and Ernest were the guys I spoke with over there and they were really responsive which was really important to me considering the amount of money we invested in our home. We had rotted soffits under our front porch built in 1906.. The entire underside needed to be fixed and we also needed a root cause of the rotting so we would not have the same issue again. We did not need the entire house soffits replaced, only the front porch. . After calling several roofing/siding companies only to be told they do not do such small job and we would need to hire a handyman. I then saw all the rave reviews for G.S. Construction and am so happy I made one last attempt with a company specializing in siding. Ernest got back to me very quickly and sent someone out to do an estimate the same day. He provided a quote for the work needing to be done, and also suggested several options as to how to move forward. He offered alternative's so we could see a range of pricing options/materials/services. They were even able to fit us in on a Saturday! The job was completed in less than a day, and to the price quoted. The workmanship is beautiful and EXACT. This is no easy feat on such an old house. The guy doing the work (I apologize but I cannot remember his name) was super friendly, professional and worked non-stop.
