I chose Firehouse Movers because of their glowing Google reviews, and their initial estimate was very competitive. Unfortunately, the final bill was a complete shock. To begin with, they insisted on a virtual estimate and refused to come out in person and assess the job. This was a 5000 sq ft home full of furniture, and I wanted the most accurate estimate possible. I asked multiple times for an in-person estimate, but my requests were declined. By moving day, I had sold two-bedroom sets and several other large pieces of furniture that were included in the original estimate. Even with significantly fewer items to move, the final price was more than double the original estimate. On the day of the move, I somehow went from needing two trucks, as stated in the estimate, to four. And from 9 to 17 total man hours. At the end of a long day, my husband just wanted them gone, so he reluctantly paid the bill before they could log anymore hours. When I called to discuss the bill, Firehouse claimed I had verbally approved the additional associated costs over the phone, citing a recording, which was completely false. I have asked multiple times for this recording, but I have not received it. That was not a small miscalculation. Our move was grossly underestimated. This whole experience felt misleading and dishonest. Stay away.

Unfortunately, they do NOT get a bonus each time we give a good review. That was a LIE and what I was told which is what sold me on the entire EXPENSIVE move. The ONLY reason why I didn't choose a less EXPENSIVE moving company or just snag some TaskRabbit movers was BECAUSE I was told I did NOT have to tip BECAUSE the drivers earn a bonus ON MY GREAT REVIEW. So when the movers came I had bought them some bottles of water each and had a $20 bill for each for an extra lunch tip. I had NO IDEA they worked for tips until later. I was SO ASHAMED that NONE of the $990 cost for 4 mile move was NOT being shared directly with them. I thought the bonus was the sign of a great company caring for their people. It was a blatant lie. At this point they have cheated my pocketbook or the movers with this deception. How many times have these excellent workers not been given better tips because we were told we didn't have to?! However, upon arrival and unpacking our moving truck (after a 5-day moving halfway across the country ordeal,) we saw that there was damage to some of our things. Our couches were scratched up and stained, with fraying and tearing in some places. My husband's one-of-a-kind woodworking bench (handmade by a disabled veteran in DFW specifically for him) had a huge gash on the top from the movers piling things on it. (Even though we asked them not to.) After turning on our TV, we also noticed there was a vertical line in it. We had Samsung come out the following week, and they told us it was damaged from the move. We immediately reported the issues with the couch and woodworking bench to Aaron and sent him pictures of the damage. At first, he tried to skirt his responsibility, but after relaying the information to him again, he said he would file with his insurance. That was December 19th. When we confirmed that the damage to the TV was a result of the move and not a technical issue, we also reported that to him and sent him the technician's report. We have repeatedly asked him about the claim, and he either doesn't answer us or says he "filed with the insurance" and we "should hear from them soon." At the time of this posting, it is January 29th. We have contacted him repeatedly throughout the weeks while also giving him ample time to respond. My husband once again texted him this past Friday, and he STILL hasn't responded. I apologize in advance to anyone who read my review and used this business beforehand. Like I said, I am saddened that it has come to this. We will likely have to file a claim in small claims court, and we are looking into other avenues to have his poor business practices reported so no one else is left holding the bag like us. If he ever does decide to do what is right and have his insurance cover the damages, I will update the review. As of right now, we're out the money we paid for the movers and the money it will cost us for the repairs ourselves. I definitely do NOT recommend this business anymore.
