I have been considering shaving my head for several years. I scheduled the Luxury Signature Head Shave with Hayah this morning. I had already made my decision last night. Hayah explained exactly how it would go and then proceeded to buzz my entire head, put shave gel on and wrap my head in hot towels. It was an amazing experience. When I arrived home, my wife and dogs greeted me with excitement and love of course. I will be returning to Hayah a couple of times per month for a wonderful shave. Three stars for now but I'll be back. I had Chris, and yes he really sliced the hell out of the back of my neck, but the guy can fade with the best of them. I'll give him another shot for sure, just hold the razor this time. The store is quite large and surprisingly only four chairs, one of which was empty on a Saturday morning which I found weird, but Ballston is kind of weird like that. Also it's pretty loud in that back area, so make sure you bring your outdoor voice indoors, I wouldn't advise it if you have a sore throat and/or hungover. You're better off just texting instructions to your barber. I have a line of men's hair/skin care that I've been sticking to for years, but I wish some of these places would break it down for you. There are several choices in terms of products there, and I'm always interested in recommendations as to what would be good for guys with short dark hair, etc, since I'm not going to spend $1000 sampling each one, half of which I've never heard of. First straw was the increase in prices, second straw was waiting an hour and a half for a cut ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASSIONS despite making an appointment with my usual guy Fabian. He didn't even offer a solution. $60 for mediocre service. Making an appointment for 5:00 and not getting a cut until 6:15 is ridiculous .Taking my business elsewhere where they actually honor clients who've been going for years. read more

I'm leaving a one star review and I don't think much explanation is needed. The pictures speak for themselves. On a Wednesday afternoon I went to the Grooming Store which is upstairs from my job so I was super excited about the convenience of the location. I didn't have an appointment, didn't call ahead, and didn't have much time so I was hoping they would see a walk-in. That's when I was greeted by Favian who said he could see me immediately. Once I was seated in his chair Favian asked how I wanted my haircut to which I replied "a fade all the way around". During the haircut there were a few times I felt nicks but I didn't think much of it because I wasn't bleeding or anything. I sat and we finished the haircut, he handed me the mirror and out of habit I ran my hand across my head as I reviewed his work. To my surprise he had given me a bald fade, and I do mean BALD. It wasn't what I was expecting but honestly it looked nice so I didn't mention it, I mean it's not like he could glue the hair back on. Anyways he proceeded to ask me if I wanted aftershave to which I replied "I guess", I'd never used it before but new shop, new barber, new experience right? When in Rome as they say....I did find it weird that he didn't wipe me down with alcohol like every other barber I've ever seen. I paid for the service and even tipped and left a happy customer. It wasn't until the next day when my head was itching uncontrollably that I knew something was terribly wrong. I had my mom look for me and she took the pictures you see below. I'm not sure whether it's getting worse before it gets better or if it's just terribly bad. My head constantly itches and is tender to the touch, there's also visible irritation and bumps. Im in fear that I may be permanently scarred. I left a review on their website but no one has contacted me. I haven't had time otherwise I'd have returned to the shop already to seek assistance. TLDR; don't go here on their busy days if you value your time. Writing a review on behalf of my partner. He has gotten haircuts here for the last few months and typically goes in early on the weekends. Previously, he has not had major issues with his appointments or cuts. Today, he scheduled a haircut mid day to prepare for a big meeting in the evening. He came to his appointment time-- in the middle of the work day-- and was made to wait over an hour, after the receptionist girl repeated told him it would only be a "few minutes" until they could see him. Why would she not be upfront and reschedule or cancel the appointment prior to his arrival if they knew they were over an hour behind? It's completely unprofessional, especially for a shop that claims to provide (and charge $$$ for) a luxury experience for men. He eventually had to cut his losses (but not his hair ) and leave because it was obvious they had no respect for his time or business. He wasted over 2 hours commuting and waiting, only to leave with no hair cut nor apology for the complete waste of time. Unfortunate, because he actually had enjoyed his experiences prior but the disrespect and unprofessionalism exhibited today was very disappointing and he will not be returning after this. read more

O... M... G...! To put things in perspective, I have been getting haircuts for well over 1/2 a century. I've shared barbers with presidents, celebrities, and recently Carl (whose turn it was before me). This experience was the best of the bunch. The Grooming Store is located in the Ballston Mall. That means parking is easy thanks to their parking structure and only costs $1 for three hours on weekends and evenings. The shop itself is on the second floor along that weird outdoor corridor. The bulk of the space is selling "product" and they have four chairs in back. I went primary to have my Covid Beard looked after and got a haircut as well. The entire process, their Signature Groom & Beard Groom cost $55 and took Hayah well over an hour. I walked out with the best haircut I ever had and a beard that looked showroom fresh. I plan on using this shop in the future an would encourage anyone interested in something that is levels above a strip mall barber shop to do the same. However, please consider booking with either Nick or Melanie, the two other stylists that were working when I was there. I saw that they also were wonderful people and doing excellent work and it will help ensure Hayah is available when I schedule my next appointment. read more

Quite possibly the worst barber experience I have ever had. So terrible that I made a Yelp account only to review this shop. Where to begin... first I had an appointment for 11:15 to which I arrived on time, then I proceeded to wait over an HOUR before being helped. Multiple times I was told it would only be a few extra minutes only to keep waiting longer and longer. Totally unhelpful and unacceptable when I had already had an appointment scheduled. Then the haircut itself... awful. I had an appointment with Chris who putting it lightly did not give a good experience. I noticed after the haircut that he actually cut me in two different places to the point where I was BLEEDING (I would post a picture but nobody needs to see my bloody ear). I noticed a knick or two without an apology so clearly he knew and was just hoping I wouldn't notice until after I left. Then the hairdryer was way too hot where I think my scalp was actually burnt once or twice, a haircut should never be a painful experience. The haircut itself just looks terrible. Needless to say I will never be stepping foot in this place ever again. And if anyone is reading this there are much better (and cheaper) places in the Ballston/Arlington area to spend your money. I took my boyfriend here for the first time to receive the Valentine's Day treatment, and a day of pampering. This included a facial, beard shape trim and shape up, and a bit of whiskey. Hayah worked with us, and was so friendly and taught us a lot about beard care, and the products and methods he used. He shaped up my boyfriend's beard really nicely. He used products to help soften my boyfriend's beard. My boyfriend loved the experience, and found it so relaxing he almost fell asleep. The store is clean, and the staff give off a friendly and welcoming vibe. I would definitely recommend visiting here for your male grooming needs! read more

Great atmosphere. Very clean and classic look but with a relaxed vibe. I got my hair cut with Hayah. This was my first time in the shop and immediately felt like I had been going there for years. I didn't want to leave this review, but he really messed up my hair. I have really long hair in the front, and he just snipped over half of my widows peak off. ALL the rest of my hair in the front is very long and gets swooped over to my left side, but now I have a very short widows peak which points straight out :( Very disappointed in the cut and even more in the service because I paid for full service and he rushed me out of the shop by saying "I'm sure you need to leave, so we won't do the shampoo." Good cuts and bad service. They have no receptionist to answer the phones when trying to book an appointment and if you booked a appointment at an exact time you will wait at least 30- 1 hours after your appointment. Definitely need to do better! read more

TLDR, ask for someone other than Randy unless you want a haircut with shaking hands So to start off, the staff was very nice and professional. I was offered whiskey and water while I waited for the barber and I thought that was very hospitable. So 10/10 for service, however, I went to get a haircut and oh boy did Randy mess it up. It wasn't apparent when he was done as the hair had gel and the back of the head couldn't be easily observed, but I knew something might've been wrong because Randy's hands were shaking like there was no tomorrow. Nothing personal, he was very nice and polite, but there are several jobs that you probably should not take on if you cant hold your hands somewhat still and I believe cutting hair is one of those jobs. This shouldn't be a reflection on any other barber or the barbershop as a whole, but I feel like that should've been checked before hiring? Especially at this price point? In any case my hair is messed up for $45 before tip and I will have to go and spend that money somewhere again to get it right. read more

I have been trying to find a quality men's grooming place since I moved to the DMV area a few years ago. Never could find a place that was just right. However, the Grooming Store just opened a new location at the Ballston Quarter mall and I decided to give it a try. The staff and barbers are top notch and very helpful. They go above and beyond in providing service and make the whole experience thoroughly enjoyable. Francis is my barber over at the Ballston location. He provides an unarguably tremendous service and has an outstanding friendly personality. If you want a place to get a great haircut, have friendly service, and even sneak a sip or two of whiskey before your cut, come here!!! read more

I was recommended to try this place by The Grooming Store's Area manager, Ricky, since I was looking for a new barber. Haven't been to Ballston so it took me a while to find the place. I was greeted as soon as I walked in by Ameena, who was super friendly, and sat me down to wait while the previous customer's cut was getting finished (got there early). The shop itself is clean and laid out nicely. Place really fits the whole vibe of the Ballston remodel. Only took about 3 minutes before Francis introduced himself to me. I showed him a picture and let him know that I wasn't really sure what I wanted. He was very cool about it and started up. The haircut itself was great. Francis is a funny guy and very easy to talk to. Sometimes a hard thing to find when dealing with a barber. Side note, get the shampoo since they use pretty high quality (and good smelling) products. Love that he didn't try to push me on what they're selling either since I can't stand that. The price varies for certain services but I know they also have a membership so I may consider that for the future. Overall was a great experience and will come back next time I'm in Ballston. This is only the second review I have ever written, but my experience both times I have been here were so good, that I needed to say something. I'll give you specifics. The three people that helped me here deserve their own special mentions. The first time I went there, Francis gave me a haircut and trimmed my beard. His ability to turn the massive tangle of facial chaos on my cranium into a neat and trimmed masterpiece of shampooed and waxed respectability was nothing short of genius. He's clearly good at what he does and he has a lot of experience. He's personable, too. He's good at conversation and making you feel welcome. I went back and this time Hayah converted my chunky Sasquatch face into a humanoid version fit to walk among the civilized masses again. His passion for his craft is evident. He takes the time to work his miracles, the steely determination emanating from him and into his barber tools. He has a gift. He's extremely upbeat in his outlook on life and his charisma is enough to turn the most pessimistic curmudgeon into an optimist. Last but certainly not least is Ameena. She runs the front of the house, and from the onset, it was pretty clear she knew more about my beard than I did. She's knowledgable and patient as I asked tons of questions. She's an effective salesperson too. She helps walk you through what you need, and gives the reasons why certain products work better than others on your particular beard. She's friendly and savvy. She's responsible for my growing repertoire of beard care products that allow me to convert my troll face into one that's respectable. Trust me, you can't go wrong by paying them a visit. You'll learn something about your beard, but you'll also have your faith in humanity restored that much more because they're personable and sincere. The staff accommodated me into their schedule, and presented as if the caliber of work was representative of the aesthetic. This however was not the case for myself and another individual next to me. Halfway through my service, I checked in with Nick, stating I wasn't really seeing the correlation between the consultation and current outcome. I let him continue, thinking it would be better once finalized. To my suspicion the other side clearly conveyed Nick's aggression towards my concerns. Simultaneously another clients hair was not satisfactory, and when he asked for a manager the barber stated there wasn't one available.
