I hate giving bad reviews but when it comes to hair cuts, I expect quality service and professionalism.
Since moving from Miami where talent for barbers are at a surplus, I was nervous in picking a spot in NOVA or DC. I chose this barbershop because of its location (right outside the courthouse metro) and because of the reviews based on Yelp. These two factors peaked my curiosity to stop by to ask how much their cuts were. I passed by on my third day here and I was treated rudely. One of the barbers looked at me from my feet up and finally answered my simple question as if he quickly judged me and named a price based on his perception of my physical appearance.
A week passed and I NEEDED a haircut so I took a chance with this place after work. When I stopped by, I used the wrong door and I clearly made one of the barbers upset. He pointed at the sign and mouthed, "can't you read?" Of course I can read, if not I would have not known it was a barbershop in the first place.
This upset me but I let it slide. I finally got my haircut from one of the more older gentleman. My haircut is complicated but I've never had any problems with any barber in Miami. I get a skin fade on the sides of my head without touching the top. A little edging on the sides to even out the rest of cut and natural growth of the hair and I part the hair to the side and back (inspired by Beckham two years ago).
When I got in the chair I told him what I wanted and he did his best, I'll give him that. After he finished it seemed like a decent haircut, nothing that made me want to come back for another. When I went to pay, it was $18. This to me was surprising because I have received some of the best haircuts from "celebrity barbers" in Miami for only $12 and I give them the entire $20. I usually tip my barbers well because of my unusual request, but he seemed to have rushed this experience and he appeared distracted with other patrons and barbers. I was just glad to finally leave. When I got home to inspect every part of the haircut, the haircut was not fully executed to my liking. At first glance when I was at the barbershop, it looked decent but with the right lighting, anything can change a perception of what's decent.
It's been almost two weeks and it grew out uneven and just horrible. I've never had this problem with my hair because I treat it well and take care of it constantly. I know it sounds dumb to care for your hair, but every man knows how important a haircut is, especially if you're paying for something not meeting your standard.
Side notes:
-know what you and firmly stick to it. Carefully tell them how you want it and usually, I show them a picture of how I like it.
- be respectful even to a barber who may aggravate you at times by nicking you with the blade, smell, is rough on your head or is just aim rude.
