I don't like to write negative reviews. So it's with heavy heart I do this. I went last week to get my sides touched up (my sides are completely shaved). All I wanted her to do was shave my hair without the guard on. Once she started, I had to keep telling her to pull my curly hair that was in a bun so she got the line right and didn't cut my hair up top. The hair on the top of my head is in braids but it was tied. She didn't. So when she did the first side I pulled my hair in the bun to see how the line was and it was a mess. So I said again you have to move and tighten the bun to make sure you get the line right. She finally did and it started to get straighter. She kept having to go over my hair multiple times because she never combed or brushed the side of my head to get my hair from being stuck to my Head. I have curly hair... When she was done she gave me a $5 discount. But it should have been free because she cut half of one of my braids off!!!!!!! Plus its 4 days later now and I have a little rash in my head because she went over it so much and kinda scrapped my head a bit. I would not recommend going here, especially if you have curly hair. read more

Great service and experience. I've been going to Georgetown Hairstyling for 3 years and getting my haircut by Kenny. He takes the time to make sure I get the style I'm looking for. Very professional job. Classic, clean barbershop where the stylists do a great job. They take the time to listen to what you want and tell you what they are going to do before cutting. Kenny was great. Friendly, attentive, funny. Usually, a barber will ask me only once at the beginning about what I would like and then not check-in or ask me how things are looking until the cut is complete. Five stars for April! We walked in (no appointment!) on a Saturday morning. My boyfriend wanted a whole new look. At the time, he had luscious Shaggy from Scooby Doo-esque locks - imagine your cousin during his skater boy phase. He wanted to get a severe undercut with faded sides, the type of haircut that looks good unstyled, looks completely different with product, and can be wrapped up in a baby man bun to boot. I've come here three times over the past year because it's in a convenient location for me. I've regretted it each time. Every time I've been there, nobody working there has acknowledged entering customers. This is weird and a bit unsettling. The last time, after I asked twice to take only a tiny bit off the top, the stylist hacked away carelessly, leaving my hair uneven and shorter than I wanted. Less importantly, there was no wet shave for the back of the neck, and no real cleanup of bits of hair from my head and clothes. These are pretty standard touches in other barbershops I've been to in the area. Other barbershops in Georgetown, Rosslyn, and Dupont are cheaper - the standard is $18 vs $25 here - and have better service. read more

A good find in Georgetown. After all, there are a lot of places in this neighborhood where you can spend a lot of money and get very little in return. This classic barbershop is right near the university campus, and does reasonably classy haircuts with reasonably friendly people for reasonable prices. I entrusted my med school interview haircut to them, and was not disappointed. Quality since then has been a bit up and down, but up enough to justify coming back. read more

Called ahead and walked into this place having just read a few of the reviews. I get my haircuts in NYC salons so I wasn't sure what to expect. I sat with Linda and she was fantastic! Went to get a hair cut at 2 pm on a Saturday. Waited 30 minutes. Average wait time. It's my turn, as I go to sit down I ask if I can go to the restroom first. She says yes and I tell her, " Thank you, I'll be right back" When I come back, probably about 1.5 minutes later, I see some one sitting down and getting there hair cut. "I'm sorry, I thought I was next." I say. "Oh, I'm sorry." She replies. I wait some more for my turn. When I finally get my hair cut, I tell the lady. "I just want to cut the sides, low fade, I want the sides to come to a point and I want the back to start at a 3 and fade all the way to the skin." I show her 2 photos of me with the hair cut I want. I've gotten my hair cut like this before. While she is trimming the side she proceeds to try and cut the top of my hair. I ask her to stop, I would just like the sides cut. She is not happy to hear that. She finishes and shows me. There is no fade in the back. The sides are too long and uneven. I don't want to make her mad because I want a nice haircut. I tell her I would like the back faded more, skin low to a clipper size 3, and I would like the sides more faded and shorter. She is not happy to hear this. She tries again, this time the back gets faded the sides get trimmed and are more even. While she is doing this she tells me it would be easier if I showed her a photo of what I wanted. I did show her a photos of what I wanted. I say nothing because I don't want her to take vengence on my hair. She shows me again. I tell her I like it more but I would like the sides a little shorter. She is visibly upset. She trims them shorter and removes my hair cut gown. She does not show me the sides. She asks me to leave and she says that other people are easier and this shouldnt take this morning long. I pay and leave. Don't get your hair cut by Vanuss. If you go to Georgetown, or live in the Georgetown area, this is the best place for a guy to get a haircut. The staff is nice, chatty, but not overly so. They will try and accommodate you on a moment's notice. $20 for a guy's haircut in DC? Outstanding. One quick caveat, don't get Rigo. I know when you roll in there without an appointment and take first available person, you want to accept anyone. Just not him. It's not that he's bad, he just doesn't listen to you. I went one time and asked for a couple of things, and he shushed me with "I makea you looka good" (Seriously). Which is fine, because I really don't care, but it just wasn't what I wanted. The problem with rating barber shops is that since a different people may cut hair at the same place, haircuts can be kind of hit-and-miss. With that in mind, I set out on yelp to find the best reviewed place this part of DC, and my quest lead me here. Surely, I thought, the law of averages would net me at least an OK haircut. But it didn't. I just wish I'd given a drunk girl $5 at a party to cut my hair. I have few doubts she would've done it any worse. Plus I'd have another $19 in my pocket. I walked in, got seated immediately. I explained to my barber what I wanted, and she proceeded to exactly half of what I had asked. That part being buzzing the side of my head to a #2, which I could've done myself. She then decided it would be a REALLY GOOD IDEA to cut my hair shorter than I had asked it to be cut, blending it where I had asked her not to blend it, and fling pieces of wet, cut hair directly on to the magazine I was reading. When I finally told her to stop, she did so. She quickly buzzed the back of my neck (because no, you don't get your neck shaved for twenty-four dollars, you get buzzed like you're in the military) and I hopped out of the chair. I'm not sure if the venom in my voice was palpable when I flatly declined to tip her, but I hope it was. I'm sure (or rather, I choose to believe) that if you come during a more on-hour then you'll get Ed, who I hear is excellent, or someone who is better at cutting hair/following directions (in fairness, the lady in charge of all the barbers there was kind, efficient, and generally on-point). But if your haircut is anything different from a standard, sameish crew cut, then look elsewhere. Because while this isn't the worst haircut I've ever had, it was probably about three times more expensive than it should've been. Decor was great, though. read more

I've been going to Rigo and Ed for six years and I'm always happy with the service and atmosphere of the shop. Sad to see Rigo retire, but Ed is carrying the torch well. He is running a very tight ship, and an honest business. We recently took my 2.5 year old there for his first haircut, and Ed was fantastic. Gave us a few mementoes and really did a great job of keeping him entertained. I still think I should get a discount for my nearly bald head, but that's ok. ;-) read more

Before moving here to Georgetown, I had had the same barber for 13 years in the San Francisco Bay Area. This guy knew my hair - I never said a word and got a decent haircut for $12 + $1 every time. Naturally, when I moved cross-country, I was afraid to look for a new barber. After a little bit of Yelping, I decided to come here. The ambience is decidedly old-school and definitely that of a SHOP, not a salon. This just felt like the kind of place where a man can go in, know his barber, and chat it up about the day's news or how much the Nats/O's/Skins suck. Ed, the current owner of the shop and son of the former owner of the shop (who still cuts hair there, btw), was my guy, and for $22, he did a fantastic job. He was great about meeting my requests, had a great touch, and worked at a good pace - not too rushed, but not super-slow either. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. And he's just a plain nice fella. (Finally, a barber with whom I can talk sports.) Ed is my new guy. Make sure you call ahead of time for Friday/weekend - they get booked up pretty fast. read more

April cut my hair. My hair was looking pretty rough, thanks to my previous cut. I explained to April what the issue was, and how I'd like it to look. She understood and explained why the hair was looking the way it was (the previous barber apparently left one section completely untouched) and went to work. I definitely didn't feel rushed as other reviews have mentioned...she actually seemed to be very meticulous about the length, thinning it out, and blending the top/sides. This is my new go-to place for a haircut in the D.C. area. I stopped in on a Saturday, and was greeted warmly upon entering by the owner (based on other reviews, I think this was Ed). Some hair places seem annoyed when a customer comes in without an appointment, but here I was welcomed, and taken right away. I didn't manage to catch the name of the guy who cut my hair, but he did a great job. The whole cut came out to $24, before tip. They take credit cards, including AMEX. One minor detail to note: If you're paying credit card, you have to add the tip to the total before they run the card. Just worth keeping in mind so you're not put on the spot. The facility itself is attractive and clean, and almost blends into the surrounding Georgetown row houses. The only negative for non-student clients is that it closes at 6 p.m. on weekdays, so it could be tough to sneak in a cut after work. But it's well worth a Saturday trip. As an aside, I had stopped into Hair Cuttery (I know, I know) at Potomac Yards in Alexandria for a trim a few weeks before my visit here, and the contrast could not be more stark. So if nothing else, I was disposed to like this place after that lackluster experience. In short, this is a great place - friendly staff, reasonable prices, and an attractive facility. read more

Definitely a top-3 worst haircut I've ever received, it is extremely uneven... I asked to trim the sides with the buzzer and trim the top with scissors (a simple, standard haircut right?). However the result was an oddly short cut on the right side of my head that really looks awful. I would expect better from pretty much any barber. I'm fortunate to have dark hair so the flaws are less visible. I can't wait until this grows out and I can have the uneven-ness corrected by another barber. Not to mention that they did not blow dry or comb my hair afterwards which left LOTS of extra hair to wash out. read more

Agree that Kenny is great. As a Marine, I have to get weekly skin fades and Kenny does them very well. He takes his time and has a lot of pride in providing a good cut. Haircuts are $27, but you're going to want to tip Kenny $10 bucks extra for his hard work. read more

Small, sunny barbershop near Georgetown Univ. with a traditional feel. I've had my hair cut twice by Ed (who I think is the manager), and both times was very happy with the result. Men's haircuts run around twenty dollars. I made appointments by phone the day before both times, but each time there were also walk-ins who seemed to get spots pretty quickly. All of the staff seemed friendly, with my appointment I was in and out in around a half-hour. Definitely recommended. read more

This little barber shop on 35th between O & N is super adorable and all of the hairstylists are really friendly. I got my haircut with Vanussa and she asked how I usually style my hair, where I part it, and how short I wanted her to go with both clippers and scissors all before she started. Once she started she made sure to show me how much she was going to cut before she moved on to a different section each time and after she finished a section she would ask me to look and feel to see if I liked it or wanted any adjustments. She ended up stopping for feedback four times and was very meticulous throughout the whole process. Overall, I would recommend for a quality haircut where they actually respond to feedback. The haircut itself was $27 (a little pricey for college students) but it's only two blocks off Georgetown's campus so I figured I would be paying the difference for a cheaper haircut in the price of an uber anyways. I feel it was worth it for the convenience and time they put into the work. read more

I stopped in here last week on a whim, based on three things: I needed a haircut very badly; I was in the area; and the previous Yelp ratings for this place were solid. Overall, I was pleased. I was able to sit down right away. A middle-aged woman provided the cut, and she did a good, though not great, job. I asked her to trim my couple months of growth into something shorter and more presentable. I'm the kind of person who likes to tweak things myself after a haircut, but she did a good enough job that I didn't spend too much time on that. The only downside was the price. If I recall correctly, the haircut was $24. That seems expensive, but then again, I find a decent haircut is one of those things you can't really put a price on. If I can't find anything better, I'll be back, and I won't feel bad about it. read more

I'm a new student at Georgetown and was looking for a place to get a haircut. Georgetown hairstyling was close and had good reviews so I tried it out. The people are pretty nice and friendly (so I gave it two stars), but Armando just simply cannot cut hair. And I usually go to a $10 barbershop back home, quick and easy fade on the sides and trim on top, so I don't think my standards are high. I asked for a fade multiple times and even the receptionist told him I wanted a fade. But he just just straight buzzed it all off and told me I never said fade....By the way, his english is not very good. I usually don't mind, but it was too the point where he couldn't understand what I wanted. Truthfully, the fade isn't a big deal, but it gets worse. I told him not to cut the top portion and specifically showed him to not cut beyond this line. Off it goes...I don't understand. By now I look like a carrot top and he tries to fix it with some scissors. But you can't fix something thats been buzzed off and there was no way I wanted him to cut my hair anymore. The receptionist overheard and asked me a few times how my haircut was, if liked it, etc and tried to make things better. Pretty horrible haircut, but the place is pretty small and there was several people around us. I didn't want to be a jerk and tell this nice lady that I hate the haircut, especially since it can't be fixed and that I'm never coming back. read more

Been looking for a great hair stylist for about 2 years since I moved to DC. This place takes the cake, I've tried Diego's in DuPont but found that the barbers were either leaving my hair uneven, too thick, or too short with the clipper. This place is busy, but they take the time to listen to what you'd like, trim with precision, and take credit cards (super bonus points)! At no point do you ever feel rushed.
