I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration regarding the service I received at your establishment. I arrived right at opening time, and to my surprise, there was no one to greet me. One of your barbers came down the stairs, saw me, and didn't even acknowledge my presence with a hello. When I asked if it might be possible to squeeze me in, he seemed dismissive from the start. I showed him a photo of the haircut I wanted -- I'll attach the image below for your reference -- and kept it open on my phone so he could easily refer back to it. Instead of using the reference image, he brushed it aside. When he started combing my hair, he became visibly frustrated because I had hair product in -- huffing and puffing as though it was an inconvenience to do his job. I clearly asked for a zero, very low fade, and specifically said not to cut the back of my hair at all. My hair was even longer than the style in the reference photo, as I've been growing it out for over a year to achieve a particular look. Despite my clear instructions, he proceeded to shave the entire back of my head, destroying the style I've spent so long trying to grow out. When I told him, "Oh no, you shaved all my hair," he shrugged and continued cutting. I had to stop him mid-cut. What I was left with was not only a completely different style but a haircut that doesn't even qualify as a good fade. This experience was genuinely upsetting -- I was shaking when I left. What should have been a routine cut turned into something that felt careless and disrespectful. I am including the photo I used as a reference and a photo of the result for your comparison. I'd appreciate your honest feedback: does this haircut resemble the style I requested in any way? I trusted your shop based on its reputation, but this experience was far below any reasonable expectation of professionalism or quality. UNSKILLED, NO ENGLISH, DIRTY SHOP, PAINFUL. This was one of the worst haircuts I have ever had. The man cutting my hair spoke hardly any English, said something to the effect of "I don't like scissors," and then halfway through my 'haircut' said he didn't know how to deal with (my) curly hair (which became quickly apparent). He cut my neck twice, and harshly pulled out knots in my hair with little water used. The top was wildly (visibly) uneven and much shorter than I showed him. The back was hardly touched and a long mess when I left. He couldn't understand what I asked him to fix. I HAD TO GO TO ANOTHER BARBERSHOP TO HAVE THEM FIX IT. The other shop was shocked at his work, and gave me a discount because they felt so bad. For your safety and to prevent an incredibly poor haircut, I highly recommend you look elsewhere. I can only imagine that they stay open because of their convenient spot in Wisconsin. read more

This is the best haircut I've ever had! Visiting DC on a hot summer day with the family. Just needed a break so I slipped in here while the wife and kids got an ice cream across the street. Cool, relaxing, and a great stress breaker. After my boys had their sweets, they got haircuts as well. $32! Highly recommended! read more

I have been getting my hair cut here for years. Rose does a great job, is on schedule, and personable.

I was very unimpressed by how this guy handled my hair. I was a walk-in and had to wait ~30 min, which is fine. Each barber neglected to sweep the floor and sanitize equipment between clients, which was pretty unsanitary and generally gross. I felt like he manhandled my head; he was not especially precise with his tools and kept aggressively knocking the trimmers against my head. The cut itself has lasted all but two weeks, and it's clear that it needs to be fixed up to make up for his inattention, quickness, and carelessness. The one plus is the hot towel at the end -- that was nice -- but as far as a men's haircut goes, go somewhere else if you value attention to detail and cleanliness. It's cheap for a reason. read more

Really bad experience here 1. I made an appointment, showed up on time, and then was forced to wait 30 minutes 2. The man cutting my hair, Daniel, was incredibly rude - he seemed very annoyed with me requests to make any adjustments. He also jerked my head around and was very rough. Don't get your hair cut at this place. They don't listen to what you want, even after showing a reference picture and giving them the specific type of cut you want. My primary barber went on a two month vacation, and with a fresh hair cut well over due, I decided to try this barber shop. It was around 4 PM and I was the only customer. Khan was friendly, inviting and quickly had me seated. Things quickly made a turn for the worse after seating. I had asked for a military skin fade, specifically: cut bald on all sides, a very high fade toward a razor 1 or 1 1/2 on top. As most barbers do, Khan turns you away from the mirror and begins working. For the first 10 minutes I felt that Khan was too shy, only gently touching the sides and back of my head. After 15 minutes, he spun me back facing the mirror and I saw that there was still quite visible dark hair and a very low fade. I insisted that he cut it bald to at least a centimeter from the top, but after some mumbling under his breath, he faintly replied that his clippers could not cut any lower. After 35 minutes, I ended up with a weird looking buzz cut. I still had hair on my sides, still a lot of hair on top and no fade what so ever. I honestly think he gave up and was trying to rush me out with a smile, pretending everything was okay. Seeing as this is a local mom and pop barber shop, I still gave Khan a good tip, but it was a total $25 I could have saved for my primary barber when he got back from vacation. If you're okay with paying a high sum for a sub par hair cut under emergency circumstances, Khan is still a barber. read more

Khan was nice and, though he didn't exactly listen to the specifics of what I wanted, the cut came out well, and for $17, that's all I can ask for. I looked in the mirror for 20 straight minutes as they absolutely defiled my hair. The woman I had showed zero respect for what grows on top of my head. This is my first weekend single in a while and I was supposed to look good. Instead, I am a walking advertisement for Wisconsin Unisex Barber -- an advertisement that cost me $21 and makes them look bad. I am a shell of my former self. I used to have confidence and smile. Now, for the forseeable future, I will stay indoors as much as possible and exude no confidence. My week has been ruined, my wallet is unreasonably empty, and my hair is 40 shades of women will not look at me. Also the woman barely spoke English which isn't ever good. Normally, I need to convey what I want done with my hair and she responds to that. But we both just kind of sat their in silence. She knew she what she was doing and I saw it all happen. read more

7 minutes for a haircut from beginning to end. How is that possible? Because it's far less of a hair"cut" and much more of a hair"buzz", since the lady only used an electric trimmer on my husband, leaving him with an army-style buzzcut on the sides, and a mullet-style pouf on the top. Needless to say, it was by far the WORST HAIRCUT IN THE WORLD. It's not the kind that grows out and looks better - it's the kind that you have to shave your head for and pretend it was deliberate because you really wanted to join a monastery. My husband refuses to pay mucho $$ for a haircut, but despite the fact that this place is the cheapest place in GTown, even he would think again. If you're contemplating this place, here's my advice: you'd be better off buying a cheapo trimmer at CVS for the same price as the haircut (or less!) and doing it yourself. (Or, as the first reviewer suggests, pay $5 to a drunk girl to do it for you). read more

This was the first place I ever got my hair cut in Georgetown, by an old-timey toe-headed Cuban man, and it was the first place I ever paid $20 for a lousy haircut. If you want a basic, quick haircut, this place is a good option. It's currently owned by a couple who also cuts hair. I usually get Kahn to cut my hair. He does a good job as long as no one is waiting. If there are a few people waiting he'll rush a little and the haircut won't be the best. The cost is cheaper than a salon in the area. I think it's $17 right now. It was $16 a few months ago. Not bad as long as you don't want anything fancy. FYI, Cash only and there is a student discount which is nice. read more

I've been coming here since I arrived in DC about 2 and a half years ago. What's been said about the buzzers is true, about 90% of my haircut there utilizes a buzzer. What hasn't been said is that Lynn is able to give me a cut using a buzzer that is far better than just about any other one I've had anywhere else, no matter what has been used to actually do the cutting. I also don't just get a military cut either, my standard is semi- involved. On facial hair she's even better, although she does tend to cut a tiny bit short. Khan isn't quite as good, but he still does a more than decent job. His English isn't 100% but he lets you know if he doesn't understand something. In other words, sure, you could probably pay $50 and get something better, but I've found a place where I always get compliments on my haircut that only costs $20, so I'm pretty happy. read more

I didn't even really need to tell Khan what I wanted - he already knew what I needed and did not give me the "buzz" cut mentioned in a previous review. Khan is very good and did a nice job for $20.00 in an area you couldn't get a toothbrush for that price. I used to go to this place all the time when I lived closer - it's about $15-17 for a good haircut from a friendly couple. Only problem is it's not near the Metro. Sometimes their college-age kids would do the haircuts, but they were good too. read more

I've gotten consistently decent cuts here. For $17 (~$20 for women) it's about the cheapest in the Georgetown-Glover Park area. The couple who run it are friendly. They give a decent haircut for the price. Don't expect anything spectacular. Today I went in after not having had a haircut for 2 months and was charged extra because my hair was "too long". Kahn then pointed to the next person in line who's hair was about 2 inches shorter than mine was and said that it needed to be more like that to qualify as a man's haircut. Evidently 3 inches of hair is too much to handle at the Unisex Barbershop. Of course, I wasn't told this until he had finished cutting my hair. Needless to say, what would've been his tip covered the difference in cost and I won't be returning for a third haircut. I wonder if he's still waiting for me to come back with the tip? read more
