I took my wife there for a simple tooth extraction which I had been advised required a dental surgeon. After the initial consulting visit, the office was non reachable anytime of day M-F, as 100% of calls went to voice mail. No one not staff nor Bukzin ever returned my messages or calls. Eventually, I received a FORM letter by text which was back-dated and addressed to "Doctor" and requesting blood test and an EKG, just 5 days before the scheduled surgery. On the day before the scheduled surgery, I received a second text canceling the surgery because his office hadn't received the blood test and EKG that we were asked for just 5 days earlier. This isn't a review I anticipated writing, and I certainly didn't expect to face an oral infection leading to multiple tooth extractions, but here we are. A little advice: never ignore a toothache. On to my experience: when I finally decided to contact my regular dentist about the persistent toothache, I was immediately scheduled for an extraction the next day. Not knowing what to expect, I took an Uber to the office, where I was warmly greeted. Once there, we discussed my treatment plan in detail. The staff was exceptional--they answered all my questions, addressed my concerns with understanding and compassion, and clearly explained what to expect. Within minutes, I was in the chair with Dr. Gentile, undergoing an emergency triple extraction just days before Thanksgiving during a hectic week. Remarkably, the procedure was completely painless and went smoothly. I even joked with the staff that, compared to all my prior dental experiences--from braces as a kid to routine check-ups--this was by far the least painful and most pleasant one I've ever had. The follow-up care I received from the team, spanning from the extraction to the implants, was absolutely fantastic. The staff is professional and empathetic, going out of their way to ensure you're comfortable and informed. They truly excel at what they do, and I couldn't be more grateful for their support. I chose this practice because of a referral from my dentist and because the reviews for Dr. Bukzin were so amazing. Well, I can now say that those great reviews were right on target! After a root canal specialist determined that I had to have an infected old root canal tooth extracted and an implant placed, I was wracked with fear. Much to my surprise and relief, the surgery with Dr. Bukzin went very quickly with no pain whatsoever. He and his medical assistant, Tiffany, were wonderful. Tiffany provided very helpful advice about post-operation recovery and provided written instructions, which I followed to the letter. Shelly at the front desk was friendly and helpful on the phone and then during my consultation and later surgery visit. As other reviewers have mentioned, Dr. Bukzin has a friendly, reassuring manner and that was so very helpful in my anxiety-ridden case. He even called on the evening after my morning surgery to see how I was doing! Six days later I am doing fine: the first day had the expected bleeding, which stopped after some hours, never to return. The pain was not bad at all, but I took ibuprofen and Tylenol just in case. I do not recommend. I would have given a zero star if I could. Dr. Bukzin is the worst. he started screaming at me in the middle of a procedure just because I was in pain and I screamed. He has the worst possible bedside manner. I can not articulate enough how bad of a behavior he had towards me. If he told me nicely, it would have been something. I was referred to the Meyer Clinic by my dentist and the entire process, from the consultation to the surgery, couldn't have been more smooth! During the consultation, I got to meet the surgeon, ask questions, review pre and post surgery care, and receive a quote for the surgery. I initially met with Dr. Bukzin but my surgery ended up being scheduled with Dr. Friend, both very professional and personable. Everyone in the office was extremely friendly and I felt as though they really did care about my well being during the entire process. They made sure I had all my questions answered and gave me multiple resources for pre and post surgery care. I was extremely nervous going into the surgery but I didn't have any reason to be. The surgery went extremely smooth and I'm now a week post surgery and have felt close to no pain since! I need a broken upper back molar removed. Meyer Clinic told me Dr. Buzkin would remove the tooth without a referral. At my appointment today, Dr. Buzkin (through his receptionist -- he never spoke with me personally) -- told me I needed an x-ray, which I do not want because (1) the missing inside wall of the broken tooth is visible to the naked eye and therefore an x-ray is unnecessary, and (2) I avoid unnecessary radiation due to a condition that causes me to have an increased risk of cancers. Dr. Buzkin's office responded by saying first that my insurance company would not pay for the procedure absent an x-ray. When I expressed doubt, Dr. Buzkin's office responded by saying the law requires Dr. Buskin to have an x-ray of any tooth before he removes it. My legal research, as expected, has uncovered no such law in Virginia. Perhaps there is a good faith explanation for Dr. Buskin's refusal to extract my broken molar, but his office did not tell me what it is. Patients should be able to weigh the costs and benefits of x-rays and decide whether or not to receive them. While oral surgeons should be able to decline to treat persons who refuse x-rays, in my view, they should share this information at the time an appointment is scheduled. read more

Went to this office once for a surgical consultation. While Dr was very nice, I only spent 5 min with him (at best). But afterwards is when nightmare started with the billing department. Didn't bill the insurance correctly so they rejected the claim. the office constantly sending me bills for "my portion", ignoring emails with questions sent, threats of collection agency. Very rude and unresponsive. Nowadays finding a dentist office which can effectively navigate insurance and billing is just as important as the Dr!!! Don't recommend them at all. read more

I feel like it is my obligation to report to future implant patients my experience here. I had a baby tooth in my mouth all my life and got it extracted in January. They recommended Meyer Clinic to me and I schedule my appointment for the implant in April. Needless to say, I was nervous to the point of almost tears. Some people fear clowns, heights, spiders (I fear those too), closed spaces, sharks... I am one of the population that fears tooth problems. I can't say I fear the dentist. I fear the pain associated with the dentist. SO I WAS A BIT NERVOUS FOR THIS PROCEDURE. I first went for a consultation and was able to ask all the questions I had. When it came time for the procedure, Dr. Friend numbed up my face so good I could have been hit in the face with a baseball and wouldn't have noticed. I think from start to finish the whole thing lasted 45 minutes and I am being totally honest when I'm saying I WAS WORKING MYSELF UP OVER NOTHING. It was much worse getting the tooth itself extracted. The implant was nothing. As for after, I was nervous about the aftermath. I needed hardly any of the prescription meds he wrote and healed up fast. I am still waiting for the crown since I have one more follow up appointment in another month just to make sure the implant set correctly. I'm really glad I was refeered to this office and if there is anyone else reading this that will be getting a dental implant, trust me when I say the procedure is nothing and you'll be fine! read more

I don't have enough great things to say about the Meyer Clinic experience. I was referred here by my dentist to have all four of my wisdom teeth removed. Luckily, it seemed like a simple enough extraction procedure, but I was still terrified. I had been putting off the procedure for 5+ years but my dentist finally strongly urged me to get it done ASAP. Everyone working at Meyer Clinic was friendly and made me feel at ease. The office is a little tricky to find (you have to enter the building from the corner door) but really nice, modern and clean inside. Dr. Bukzin is exceptionally friendly, jovial and reassuring. After my consult I was able to get an appointment for just a few weeks later! The procedure itself was easy, and I couldn't believe how quickly it was over (less 20 minutes!!). I had full anesthesia and had no issues during or after. The staff provided helpful aftercare instructions. I genuinely had hardly any pain in the days following and didn't touch the hard painkillers once - Advil did the trick. I followed all the hygiene and eating instructions and was back to normal within just over a week (probably could have even been sooner but I was being extra cautious). Also, Dr. Bukzin called a few days after to check in on any symptoms. I did not need any follow up appointments. I am forever grateful for the care I received at Meyer Clinic. They made a terrifying experience for me into a seamless and easy one. THANK YOU! read more

I went to Meyer Clinic for the extraction of all 4 wisdom teeth on Apr 27. The medical care I received was top notch! No issues at all with the dentists! This review is specific to the their billing department. I was given an estimate to the tune of approximately 950$ which I paid the day of the procedure. In May I receive an EOB from my insurance which supports that a good portion of the claim was covered. Sweet! I am getting a refund! I call the office and inquire about this and I am told they are also working to get me an additional 225$. Awesome! They verify my address to mail a check. June comes, I call back and they say they are still waiting on my insurance. July comes, I call and same story. August comes, you guessed it! Same story. I call my insurance. They have not received anything additional. I call them back in September and this time I am told someone will call me back with an update. I call again in October and same story. Fast forward to November and I call my insurance again. They have yet to receive anything. All they need is a piece of paper that supports the need for the procedure for that 225$ to be covered by insurance. I call the clinic again and I am told the billing manager will call me back. At this point I am rather frustrated and mention I have left 5 messages for the billing manager to call me back and that I need some resolution. They proceed to tell me that EOBs sometimes take a while. I tell them that my procedure was on April 27 and that they got paid from my insurance on May 5. It clearly didn't take any time at all for my insurance to process a payment and all they need to do is send the additional paperwork, and get the additional amount paid and then give me a refund. I even mentioned that at this point they can send that letter to me and I will settle it with the insurance if they are that busy. Honestly I am at a loss and I am owed several hundred dollars. I need them to send the medical necessity paperwork in so I can get my additional 225$ which is why I have been so patient but this is just ridiculous! I followed up monthly, I did my due diligence and called my insurance to make sure they are not slow rolling anything, and I patiently explained the same story every time I called. Short of disputing the charge on my credit card or reporting them to Virginia Dental board I have no clue what else to do. I am not one to write negative reviews but I am beyond frustrated! Patients beware! Make sure at the time they give you an estimate that they have gotten the accurate amount from your insurance otherwise you too will be owed several hundred dollars! read more

Do not come here if you are allergic to any medications. I would like to report a safety incident for Dr. Michael Gentile of the Meyer Clinic in Arlington, VA. Dr. Gentile performed wisdom teeth extractions for my husband on August 4, 2020. Prior to the surgery, Dr. Gentile asked my husband if he was allergic to any medications, and my husband responded that he was allergic to amoxicillin. Then Dr. Gentile's assistant asked the same question prior to the surgery, and my husband gave the same response. Following the surgery, Dr. Gentile prescribed my husband amoxicillin, despite having been informed twice that my husband was allergic. Thankfully, we noticed this mistake after picking up the prescription, and he did not take the antibiotic. Once informed of the error, Dr. Gentile prescribed him a different antibiotic. However, Dr. Gentile and his staff did not apologize nor did they indicate that they had taken steps to update my husband's chart to indicate this allergy, and they did not mention any corrective actions to prevent this serious prescription medication error in the future. I believe a root cause analysis and corrective action plan needs to be developed for this patient safety event, as my husband could have died had I not known about this allergy and seen this on the prescription bottle (we are newly married and I learned today that he was allergic to amoxicillin.) read more

My dentist referred me to the Meyer Clinic to get my wisdom 3 wisdom teeth removed. I was extremely nervous, so Dr. Honl walked me through the procedure and all risks/complications during my consult. Prior to my surgery the office called me to remind me and answered any questions I had. The day of my surgery I was introduced to two nurses/assistants who would be helping with the procedure - they were both very kind and told me to tell them if I needed anything. I was out cold for the procedure and woke up feeling woozy, but good. Recovery was going smoothly for the first two days, until I got a dry socket which was extremely painful. Dr. Honl was so kind and called me later in the day of my surgery to check in, and answered any questions I had over TEXT!! When I was worried about my dry socket he met me ON A SUNDAY at the office to fix the problem. He was very reassuring and accommodating. I HIGHLY recommend this office to anyone. If you are very nervous, like I was, they are the sweetest people and prove there's nothing to be nervous about. read more

I don't normally leave reviews but felt as though I owe it to Meyers Clinic. I have a phobia of the dentist and avoided going the past 4-5 years. I notice swelling in the back of my gums. I had been told that my two upper wisdom teeth need to be removed but i always avoided it. I called for x-rays and removal of the two wisdom teeth through sedation. I was extremely nervous but the nice workers there as well as a talk with the doctor performing the operation (Dr. Patrick Friend) made things a lot easier. Recently got my wisdom teeth out here and everyone was excellent! Both of the oral surgeons are equipped with experience and great personalities, and the receptionists are very nice. I had a consultation appointment where we got most of the paperwork and details out of the way in addition to take home instructions I could follow for general anesthesia preparation and detailed care for the day of wisdom teeth extraction, day after, etc. I felt very knowledgeable and prepared. They gave me 3 prescriptions- pain medicine, antibiotics, and most importantly, steroids! I'm a little over 48 hours out from my surgery (got all 4 wisdom teeth out in a quick 30 mins) and my swelling is minor and hardly noticeable. I think the ice and ibuprofen around the clock has helped, but the steroids seem to have made all the difference compared to my friends who swelled up much more from other oral surgeons who did not prescribe steroids. It's a quick 6 day course that makes a huge difference. I am a healthy 23 year old which I'm sure helps with a smooth procedure and successful recovery, but I have to give these guys their credit. My experience has been great and they are open to you calling about any questions. I would recommend the Meyer clinic to anyone who needs to get their wisdom teeth out. I procrastinated so long, but they made the process so easy and I wonder why I didn't do it sooner! read more

My dentist recommended that I have two wisdom teeth removed. Not something I was exactly looking forward to, but my dentist also recommended Meyer Clinic. The great Yelp reviews calmed my nerves a bit, but basically I looked like a dog looks when you're taking him to the vet when I walked in. The entire staff was exceptionally professional and funny, which calmed my nerves even more. Dr Jay made sure I was comfortable and fully numb, and the whole procedure took less than an hour. I thought I'd need prescription pain killers, but ibuprofen did the trick for me. Really, no major discomfort, and the worst part of the entire procedure was my own anxiety. My dentist, Lauren Reis, referred me to the Meyer Clinic and from the initial consultation to the follow-up appointment, it was a very smooth experience. Everyone in the office is very kind and genuinely caring. Dr. Friend performed my extraction of all four wisdom teeth and by the next day, I was feeling fine. By the third day, I was in a great amount of pain due to a dry socket (which I found out this morning in the follow up appointment.) My boyfriend called the on call doctor who was able to prescribe an at home remedy. Nothing worked so I called this morning for a follow up and was immediately booked for an appointment. I saw Dr. B and he was very knowledgeable, experienced and friendly (as was Dr. Friend during my consult and extraction.) Both doctors made my experience the best it could be and helped ease any anxiety or intimidation for such a surgery. They are available via email and phone. You won't be greeted with your typical automated message but will get immediate help as best they can over the phone. Dr. B even foresaw the struggle of picking up prescriptions at the Courthouse CVS and gave me a paper prescription (which I ended up using because CVS "never got the call from the office".) Both doctors never make you feel as if you are wasting their time but truly want to help. I would highly recommend this office for not just surgical procedures but for TMJ issues, as well. I had my 2 wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Bukzin right after Christmas. Two years prior I had one wisdom tooth removed by a dentist under local anesthesia and it was the most horrible experience. This time, I made sure I did my research and picked a surgeon that I trust. I was extremely nervous the day of the surgery, but the entire staff was very sweet, tried calming me down and were nothing but wonderful during this whole experience. Dr. Bukzin even cracked some jokes and made me laugh right before sending me to fall asleep. I woke up and had no pain at all. I couldn't believe my wisdom teeth were gone just like that. Dr. Bukzin was callled into ER at Fair Oaks Hospital on a Sunday evening. Did not show up until Monday morning. Emergency surgery scheduled early Monday afternoon for my spouse's broken jaw, chin and teeth removal. Devastating accident and injury. To add to our pain, when we received his bill, discovered he was OUT of network for FEDERAL EMPLOYEE BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD (BCBS)! Tried multiple times to reach office manager, but she would not talk to us on phone. Sent Dr. Bukzin and Dr. Gentile each a certified letter asking to discuss outstanding balance with them and/or their office manager. NEVER RECEIVED ANY COMMUNICATION FROM HIS OFFICE EXCEPT A BILLING STATEMENT NOTIFYING US THAT OUR BILL WAS PASSED DUE AND TO PAY IMMEDIATELY OR IT WOULD BE SENT TO COLLECTIONS. Their bill for ER/surgery was over $10k. They received BCBS full payment and billed our family $5k with small "professional courtesy" added to bottom of bill. DOCTORS AND OFFICE STAFF HAVE NO EMPATHY, PROFESSIONALISM OR COMMUNICATION SKILLS. Beware! read more

I was in a lot of pain from wisdom teeth coming in, and was referred to the Meyer Clinic because I have a huge fear of dentists and procedures! I was absolutely terrified to get my wisdom teeth out, but I really had nothing to worry about! I saw Dr. Friend on Monday to get all 4 wisdom teeth taken out and he was the best medical professional I've ever had! He went above and beyond to make sure all of my questions were answered, and kept me calm before going under. He did a great job on my teeth, its now Thursday and I've had very little pain, only discomfort. Dr. Friend is super positive and nice, he made the experience as pleasant as possible. Office was very nicely designed and the staff was friendly, even though I was extremely anxious! My only complaint is that they wouldn't let my dad come in the room before they put me under. I was extremely nervous and wasn't expecting them to not let him in, which made me even more nervous. But I still feel like Dr. Friend deserves 5 stars because he calmed me down a lot before going under and was very compassionate. I thought I was going to be paying $$$$ for five star service. I work three jobs, including at trader joes as a check out clerk so that I can afford nice things like taking care of my teeth and not begging for a discount. I scheduled very early to get the date and time I wanted, and rescheduled early when I needed more time to save up and prepare. Then less than a week before my surgery they called me: the entire day I am scheduled there is no surgeon in the Arlington office. Options: I can take an extra day off work or I can drive 70 miles round trip to Gainesville. They have offered no price consideration at all, despite an e-mail request, which is terrible considering the penalties medical offices inflict when the scheduling mistake is on your own end. read more
