Dr. Rick is a TREASURE. I found myself here by way of a neighborhood FB group rec after my dentist retired. I have a multitude of dental procedure related trauma and even cleanings are painful on my very sensitive teeth. Dr. Rick let me meander about every negative experience and all of my needs without judgement. He was extremely gentle, checked in constantly to make sure he wasn't hurting me, and had the decency to remove his hands and instruments from my mouth when he wanted me to answer a question. I honestly can't remember the last time I had such a pain-free experience. The fact that he was a pleasant conversationalist was a bonus. Oh. The man WALKED ME to my car to make sure I could find it because I got lost on my way there and couldn't find the right elevator for the building lobby. Protect him at all costs! read more

Both doctors are compassionate and caring. They are thorough and do not rush to get to their next patient. They are exceptional at explaining procedures and how important good dental care is. I woke up for the third day in a row with some achy teeth and decided it was time to head to the dentist. I didn't have one in town yet, so like you, I started Googling and reading Yelp reviews. I could not have had a better experience with Dr. Gruntz! The doc himself answered the phone when I called at 8am and agreed to squeeze me in just an hour later at 9am. He made small talk to set my anxious-self at ease and did NOT give me the scolding I deserved and anticipated for my neglected dental health. My wife and I may be moving out of this area in the near future, but I wanted to pay tribute to Dr. Rick and his dad, Dr. Gruntz, before leaving. Based on a recommendation from my son, I started seeing Dr. Rick a few years ago,   During this time, he has worked on root canals, crowns, fillings, and cleanings for me. I was pleased with the quality of his work, so I recommended him to my wife, who also goes to him now. It is nice to have a dentist that: - does exceptional work in a timely manner with minimal discomfort (he is both considerate and patient) for a reasonable price. - is easy and fun to talk with (he listens well, has a fine sense of humor, and exchanges interesting stories/information) - when necessary/important, responds to calls/texts during off-hours who works in an office that: - is easy to access (right near the metro in the underground). - makes crowns onsite (for one-day installations) - has a staff that is kind and helpful - includes another exceptional dentist (Dr. Gruntz) who occasionally supports Dr. Rick. read more

I've been coming here for around four years now and I can honestly say that I've never had a dental...or heck, any medical experience better than that which this office provides. I am particularly picky about medical professionals that I choose to frequent and I feel that for some reason in this area in particular, it's hard to find folks who you can tell really care. Both Drs and their assistant Jill are all wonderful people and their care towards each patient is apparent every time I'm here. I've moved around numerous times since my first visit here when I was still living in Crystal City a number of years ago...including a move out to Vienna...a decent distance away. I have gone to Dr. Gruntz for many years. He is honest, does fantastic work and is a great person. Also, he always been super accommodating when I've had a dental emergency. He can make crowns in house which saves me tons of time and he never suggests unnecessary procedures - something that happened when I switched jobs and thought I should get a dentist closer to my job. I switched back. It is worth it to me to go to Crystal City to get great work done. I have worked with both Dr. Gruntz(s) now and they are both terrific. Hadn't been to the dentist a little while because of anxiety/insurance issues. I had a lot of work done very close together, and I just couldn't take the dentist anymore. Was really anxious, but my friend had used the elder dentist for 20 years so I gave them a try. The younger dentist saw me, and it was such a pleasant experience. We talked about all kinds of things while he cleaned my teeth. I just had x-rays at an orthodontist, and there was no pressure to get more x-rays. He also gave me a recommendation for an oral surgeon and a closer orthodontist. I talked to the elder dentist, and he was great, too. Plus, they take Guardian Insurance. I'll be back in 6 month for a cleaning. Parking is validated, and the low-key office is efficient and right in Crystal City. read more

Both Drs. Gruntz (the younger and the elder) are terrific. They are knowledgeable and good at what they do, while putting patients at ease. These guys will never try to sell you something you don't need - if you have something that might become a problem in the future, they'll monitor it rather than pushing you to spend money to fix something that doesn't need fixing. A great, low-key dental office with two dentists. Good customer service, on-time appointments, and *accessible*. If you need to reach a dentist after hours, you can. I hope I will never need that, but I like knowing my dental office has that level of patient support. Convenient, metro-accessible location. Simple office, but technology where it matters (digital x-ray, equipment, etc.). Honest dentists, quality work. Here, the dentists do the cleaning. I was having minor discomfort and the office agreed to see me as soon as possible. The staff is extremely friendly and professional. The prices are amazingly reasonable. Yes, if you have insurance you have to mail your own forms in (which they provide typed for you), but what's the big deal about that? They show you the x-rays and problems and explain your options. They will even discuss your past dental care with you in case your last dentist did not. Conveniently located near the metro and rite-aid pharmacy (I needed meds in the middle of my procedure).
