Oh as for the actual cafe, they had a lot of good looking treats (especially a chocolate chip muffin) but I did hold back and went with a smaller hot cocoa with oat milk. This was less than $5 (still getting adjusted to reasonable prices outside of my current city), and it was very good! Seating was throughout the narrow space, from tables and chairs to an old-school station bench which I took advantage of while I savored my beverage. There was also a separate restroom for men and women. From the barren station it was, someone really took this space and gave it new life. I imagine it's packed during the early weekday commute, but when I visited, it was almost peaceful with just a handful of people. Looks as though they haven't been open for very long, so I wish them success and look forward to the next time I can come by again while in town (and waiting for what I still call the R5).

I had thought splitting checks was a very common practice, and I absolutely did NOT ask patrons to sit in specific order. White Dog in UC didn't do that either (or anywhere else). Perhaps White Castle is more within her playing field. Some courses in sensitivity training may aid in her professional development. And they wanted to charge like $4 per person since someone baked cupcakes.... reminder that most people also ordered dessert on top of all this. They can go pound the sand.

I've known this family since being in diapers, so watching something they've poured their hands, heart, and vision into come to life had me smiling from the moment I walked through the door. The execution is where it separates itself. You choose your base vanilla or chocolate then let your imagination run loose with 50+ mix-ins. Everything is blended fresh and handcrafted right in front of you, which makes the experience feel much more intentional than your typical scoop-and-go. They also have a café side of the experience, serving up premium coffee and espresso creations for those of us who understand that sometimes a good cup of coffee is its own form of comfort and joy. Of course, I had to create my own masterpiece. I went with that elegant vanilla base, pistachio, Biscoff, and cheesecake. Mike looked at my selections like I had completely lost the plot. Like "Whoa, take it easy!" Drake & Josh fans know exactly what I mean. I understood the skepticism. Pistachio, Biscoff, cheesecake sounds like the kind of combination that could very easily become too much. But somehow, the blending process brought everything together in a way that actually worked. The richness of the cheesecake, the nuttiness of the pistachio, that caramelized Biscoff character, and the smooth vanilla base created this surprisingly balanced bite. That's what impressed me most. A lot of dessert spots can throw toppings into a cup, but creating something where the base, fruits, nuts, candies, and other inclusions actually complement one another requires quality ingredients and some real attention to the craft. Apparently, I wasn't leaving empty-handed either. I was gifted some handmade beanwiches made by Mr. Blank. Got the dark chocolate chip cookies with that beautiful Vanilla Bean ice cream tucked in the middle. Talk about nostalgic! A well-crafted cookie, creamy ice cream, and that familiar feeling of childhood dessert done with a grown-up level of care. I also grabbed some cake pops for the road, and the cookies & cream one absolutely deserved its moment. But beyond the desserts, the hospitality deserves its own flowers. You can tell when people are simply working somewhere versus when they genuinely care about what they're building. The staff were welcoming, attentive, and seemed genuinely happy to be there. That kind of energy matters because it becomes part of the product. But even without the personal connection, I'd be coming back. I'm not recommending it simply because my best friend's family owns it. I'm recommending it because the craft speaks for itself. The creativity is there. The hospitality is there.
