I've been here a few times and usually it's not bad but my last visit seemed like something from an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. First they seem to not have popcorn anymore which is a big let down. The sprite was flat and tasted really off. To eat I started off with calamari. It was a small portion and the batter was very sweet like they put powdered sugar in it or something. It was in desperate need of salt too. The marinara sauce it came with tasted like store bought pizza sauce. It also came with a white liquid with peppers and olives which tasted creamy and was an absolute waste. For my entree I got the Chicken Marsala. Sadly the best part about this dish was the plain angel hair. You barely get any chicken, it's two small pieces pounded very thin and overcooked. The sauce was runny and a little sweet. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the parts without sauce were good. I also decided to get dessert. I chose bread pudding. It was ehh, not bad but not really good either. It looked terrible but wasn't as bad as it looked. It was soft but lacked flavor and was sitting in a pool of melted butter topped with runny piles of mediocre whipped cream. Surprisingly it didn't come with ice cream. The service wasn't bad but one waitress kept vacuuming. I have never in my life been to a restaurant that vacuums during service. Does The Trick You read the reviews and I think Grump's get a bad wrap. The place has been open for 25 years, so they have to be doing something right. First of all, the most important thing to me going to bar, the drinks. No place around serves a better drink for the price than this place. Check Second, they still have a salad bar, a rare thing these days. It's always pretty clean and they have fresh bread. Check Third, they have plenty of TV's to watch a game. Check Four, they have about 20 beers or more on tap and they are always fresh and cold. No dirty lines. Check Lastly, I wouldn't recommend every menu item but there are a some that are done really well. There fresh made chicken tenders are pretty damn good and they give you a huge portion. Reservations for 10 were made. I arrived a few minutes early to find others in my party were seated as the restaurant was prepared for us. Drinks were ordered and arrived quickly. Food ordered, arrived faster then I expected. Not one person in our party had anything bad to say about their food. I had haddock with seafood stuffing, it was delicious. I will start of with a covid relative statement. Grumpys has outdoor seating and is open and serving food. First time to Grumpy s. Staff was very friendly. Easy location to get too. Limited parking at the moment since I think the outdoor dining is now in parking lot. But this review is specifically for lobster roll and lobster Mac and Cheese. I have had lobster food products all through New England. So lobster roll is good. Meet was good and not chewy so seemed pretty fresh. Will need salt and pepper for sure. The plus is it is a large lobster roll with a delicious roll. So you def get your moneys worth. The Mac and Cheese was good. This dish varies greatly between restaurants. When i think of Mac and Cheese I think very cheesy like a Mac and Cheese. Grumpy s lobster Mac & Cheeses seemed to focus on the flavor of the Lobster and not so much the cheese. I WAS SERVED ROTTEN SEAFOOD. I ordered the seafood casserole. Generally I would not order seafood from a restaurant like this but they had a whole seafood section so I said what the hell. I took my first bite of a "lobster tail" and it immediately tasted as if i ate amonia and had to be spit out. Manager apologized and confirmed the lobster was in fact bad. Fryalator oil was old and could be smelled emminating off of the french fries at the table. Waitress had to be asked 3 times for water. There were long periods of time we were not checked on. Overall terrible experiance. DO NOT EAT HERE!! I would be open to speak with the owner as there were other things witnessed (illigal activity) during my visit that I will not post on here. read more

My wife and I left here feeling Grumpy. We were both hungry and in the area, so we figured that we'd just go there because they do have a large selection of food to choose from. The restaurant was dark...there was a salad bar right next to the entrance. A member of the staff was actually putting lettuce into one of the bins WITH BEAR HANDS!!!!!! I ordered eggplant parm, because that is my favorite thing to get. Unfortunately, Grumpy's made it terrible. The spaghetti was dry and crunchy. The tomato sauce was bland. The eggplant wasn't seasoned, but was very greasy. My wife got a BBQ chicken sandwich. She had to remove all the vegetation because it was slimy and rotten. The chicken was very salty. Her meal came with "fresh, hand-cut fries." They were thick cut steak fries that were under-cooked and soggy. All the ketchup in the world could not save them. She did enjoy the bun, as it was the only thing she ate. The menu reads "We are not a chain, we are a family." They did not mention that their family hates you and only wants to serve you garbage. This is the type of place I think Gordon Ramsey would visit for his "Kitchen Nightmares" show. read more

My husband and I live within spitting distance of Grumpy's and unfortunately we hate that we do. When we first moved in to the neighborhood we were excited about the prospect of having a very local watering hole to go to and get to within walking distance. However, every time we've gone it's been a major disappointment. From the food to the employees, we still tell stories of the horrors we experienced while eating out here. We've been 3 times. Once for dinner and twice for strictly drinks: A few examples: When we first moved in we had guests over and we were all eager to try out Grumpy's. We took the two minute walk over and sat down for dinner. The waitress was drunk as a skunk. She had to sit down to take our order. I can't remember what the others ordered but I asked for a cheeseburger. Standard pub fare if you ask me. It was like a Bubba's frozen pattie! They should have called it the gristleburger with extra Blech sauce! Fries were ok. We went out for drinks with friends. We live so close that we decided we were going to tie one on. My husband was ordering beers ...I was ordering martini's. The first martini I ordered was a cherry number that tasted like cough syrup...They actually put syrup in it. Martini's are supposed to be all booze. At 10 bucks a pop they should be. The next time we went I had a bottled beer to be on the safe side. The appetizers are so greasy and gross....and I suspect they go from the freezer to the fryer. We haven't been there in over a year but we don't plan to. Horrible service, horrible food, and rude management I went here about a week ago, got sat right away, was impressed with the waitress's fast approach to our table, and the large number of selections on the menu. This was the highpoint of my visit, from here it just went down hill. We ordered drinks, appetizers, and asked for a few minutes to order dinner.... 15 minutes later we get our drinks, and our appetizers, by someone who is not our waitress. 5 minutes more and 3 requests of other waitresses to find our finally got our waitress over to take our order. She was slightly apologetic, took our orders, then disappeared. When our food came out, we had to ask the person delivering it for more beverages and to remove our now eaten appetizer's plate and used appetizer plates. The food was disgusting. One member of our party had their steak tips. they were unflavorful, disgusting, fatty, and very over cooked. (The tips were ordered medium-rare almost rare, they came out well done) Another person ordered a pasta and chicken dish described as "served in a white wine sauce" What the menu didn't mention, and neither did the waitress, was that it also came with a thick, salty tomato sauce on it as well. the "sauce" tasted more like canned tomato paste with a pound of salt added in. The third person got a club sandwich, pretty simple, right? Except when the mayonnaise on it tasted rancid. It took us a further 15 minutes to get our waitress back, she offered to remake the tips and put in something different for the others. We said no thank you, we'll just take our check then leave. Well, 10 minutes later the check shows up, and yup, everything was still on there, we were being charged for food that was disgusting and inedible. We asked for the manager, she said she'd see what she could do. The check comes back, it's lower, it's gone from $60 to $50.... they took off the entrées, then charged us for the side dishes individually! We went back and forth with said "manager" for almost 20 minutes, she contacted her boss whose answer to this was "well that's what they have to pay, and tell them to never come back here again" When we refused to pay for inedible food, they threatened to call the police on us. This was a horrible waste of 2 hours of my Thursday night, and I was STILL hungry and had to go get dinner somewhere else. Stay away at all costs! read more

Our family of 5 went here recently with a groupon. We had steak tips, which were ordered medium well, and came out rare, served with cold mashed potatoes; all you can eat clam cakes, which took about 1/2 hr to get more clam cakes; a Reuben sandwich, which was fairly tasty.... Chicken finger/fries kids meal, which my son said.... " the chicken tastes like mayonnaise". Now I can't say for sure if it was just him not wanting to eat - he does often come up with creative excuses - or if they really rated bad. Our meal was accompanied by at least 10 flies which flew around us the entire time we were trying to eat. I'm giving two stars because our waitress was prompt and friendly.... But she also said it was her last day as she was going back to college..... Even with a groupon, we will not be back. I was quite surprised to see all of the negative reviews for Grumpy's! My fiance and go here quite often with our friends as they host Trivia nights here on Wednesdays. We weren't expecting much but we thought we'd give it a go. We been about 4-5 times now and have never had a bad experience. We're always seated promptly by a friendly waitress, and our food always arrives on time. I usually order a particular burger with mushrooms and thousand island dressing and it's always outstanding. I've also ordered a few of their appetizers here and there and they've also been delicious. It's a very casual, a little dive-y and more of your typical hometown pub than a 5-star restaurant. However, if you're like me and my fiance and you like unpretentious pub food, this is a great spot to grab a bite. The prices are reasonable, the food is good and the service is friendly. We were out with my parents after attending a wake, my husband mentioned Grumpy's as it does have a large menu. We sat down and immediately requested separate checks (so she knew up front). My parents prefer bottled beer and ordered their two beers, she came back and informed them the bartender pored drafts and asked if they wanted them for free as it was their error, my parents said no thank you as they just don't like the taste of draft, she gave SUCH and attitude and stormed off. The meal goes on we placed our orders and my mom asked for soup instead of salad, they had Clear or Red Clam Chowder she asked for Red, the waitress brought clear (clearly not listening). She dropped the food and never returned, my dad ordered a 2nd beer and was finished his meal before the beer arrived, THEY WERE NOT BUSY! it was a Monday night with 2 tables of people other then us. She brought the bill and it was NOT separated.. so again didn't listen and gave HUGE attitude when asked to fix it. Great pub that serves a really good dinner too! Visited here last night with my boyfriend. Greeted and sat promptly by a friendly waitress and we were served drinks rather quickly. We both started with the salad bar which was small, but stocked with fresh ingredients. I wasn't too hungry so I decide to try their French Onion soup which was loaded with onions and had some ooey gooey cheese on top.. mmm! My boyfriend had a $10 entrée (maybe a special on Mondays?) which was the BBQ chicken tips. He requested pasta instead of rice which was no problem for the server/chef and he enjoyed his meal as well... I had a bite of his and it was very flavorful! I have driven by Grumpy's hundreds of times, and only recently tried it for the first time. I always thought it was just a bar, but they have a decent sized dining room in addition to the huge bar area. I would call it a family type restaurant, they have a pretty wide selection on the menu. Everyone I was with enjoyed their meals, and we all got margaritas, which were also great! The whole place is very laid back and comfortable. Just what I like! As we were leaving, a cover band was starting to play in the bar, and there were a ton of people hanging around. I will definitely be back! read more

It's been a while since eating here. I was told there is a new chef. My wife and stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. We started off with an appetizer of seafood cakes. They were excellent as there were chunks of lobster throughout. My wife had a salad and I opted for the Clear Chowder, which I enjoyed. I had the sirloin tips/shrimp with a BBQ sauce. It was served with a baked potato and a zucchini/squash mix. I was very happy with my choice, especially the shrimp. My wife was happy with her choice of ribs. The service was very good. It was not busy at that time of day. Which is good. Especially because of the minimal parking available. We are satisfied enough that we will be back. read more

I hadn't been to Grumpy's in almost ten years. it looks exactly the same which really warmed the nostalgic cockles of my heart. they have a huge/ affordable menu and the staff are prompt and super friendly. on the weekends they also have live music or a dj at the front of the restaurant. my boyfriend lives less then ten minutes away from the restaurant and he said it reminded him of the bar from the show cheers so is suspect will be back very soon. read more

Solid overall dining experience for the family. The tag-team service we had was exceptional, and since we have 4 kids ages ranging from 13 to 4 that's no small task. Let's not kid ourselves, it's not 5 star dining nor is it meant to be. If you go there expecting a top notch filet or piece of fish, shame on you, but if you're looking for better than average pub food with a wide variety of apps and sandwiches then Grumpy's fits the bill. To add to the fun, they've got Keno and a TouchTunes jukebox that you can download an app and queue music directly from your iphone. The kids loved picking the next song up (not sure the other patrons did) and my youngest was standing next to our table doing a dance that the other customers found very entertaining (otherwise I would have stopped him). When we take all 4 kids to a restaurant, more than half the challenge is finding them something they like which Grumpy's has plenty of. Went last night. What an awful experience! Waitress said she was "new" right off the bat. Ordered a couple of drinks and when my friend asked about the Mako she said she never heard of it. Great, well it's listed under Specials and she never heard of it. Food was awful--ordered chicken stir fry. Chicken was not edible, rubbery with NO taste. Vegetables appeared to have been soaking in oil for hours. Salad bar had PACKAGED salad and a few other nondescript items. The perfect end was getting the bill, giving a credit card and having it come back saying we owed THREE CENTS. Being honest we told her and she ran to correct it and came back with an amount way different than the original amount, she tried yet again and gave us a bill for things we did not order (obviously another person's order), we called her back to the table yet again and she grabbed the incorrect bill and came back with one that was just a bit more than our original and said that was because she printed the other one out before my friend had ordered her second drink. We are doing our best to support local restaurants during this quarantine. However, we will not be going back during or after quarantining. We ordered Buffalo Chicken Dip, Serious Burger with loaded fries, Eggplant Parm, and a Cheese Pizza to go. The chicken dip didn't come with nachos. The Serious Burger didn't have the Thousand Island Dressing on it. THe fries were just meh. My husband will eat almost anything and when he can't finish the fries, you know they were bad. The Eggplant Parm was thick with the breading falling off. The sauce...well let's just say I've had sauce out of a jar taste better. Luckily the side salad was delicious. But the worst part was the cheese pizza we ordered for my almost 2 year old. The poor thing could barely eat the pizza. She had to suck on it then bite into it. We tried cutting it with a butter knife into smaller pieces. We had a hard time cutting through the crust. It was so bad we got a steak knife to cut it. Either they need a new way to make pizza or just take it off the menu all together. I'd say 40% of our food went into the garbage last night. Very disappointed! read more

Food = 3 Stars. Atmosphere = 1 star. Overall = 2 stars. This place kind of makes you feel gross siting down for your meal. It's old, outdated and dingy. They have Disney characters hanging on one wall and Red Sox wall paper on the other. Odd. They also have an open salad bar next to the (drinking) bar which to me is just gross. The food wasn't terrible but nothing special either. I ordered baked stuffed shrimp and the shrimp were minuscule- it was all stuffing. I'll be honest I've been going to Grumpy's for over 20 years. I've heard some bad things and I always continued going because I never had a problem. Unfortunately tonight I realized that everything that I had heard from everybody is true. And it's sad. One of my favorite spots I'll have to stop going to because the staff and management are completely incompetent and unreliable and flat out rude. I went to Grumpy's for dinner this evening with some friends and it was bad from the start. It took way too long to order our drinks never mind get them. And unfortunately this wasn't a one time thing. Every drink order, every food order, every thing we needed seemed as though we were inconveniencing our waitress. We attended the music bingo (which was very fun). UnfortunAtely we waited very long just to get our drinks. And on top of that our food took forever to get. The food was mediocre. My steak was filled with fat and my wife's chicken was undercooked. We let these things go because we understand that it was a busy night and that the cooks can only go by what is in their stock. The service was beyond anything that I've ever experience. I've waited in lines at Disney World that took less time than how long it took just to get another beer. We had to get up and go to our waitress who was just standing there on numerous occasions just to be acknowledged. That's not the worst part. When our check came they had added an extra drink to our total bill. We had mentioned it to our waitress and she gave us attitude like we were mistaking. She said that she would have her manager speak with us. The manager came and was even ruder than our waitress. She called us liars and told us that we were wrong. So essentially we were forced to pay an extra 7+ dollars because of their mistake which they refused to do anything about. I mentioned the poor service at this point and they waved it off and didn't acknowledge our concerns. How pathetic is it that I have patronized and supported the Lahousse Family for many years and their employees are that inept and rude that they can't even acknowledge or fix their mistakes? Not only that but when we left completely dissatisfied we were CHASED out the front door by the employees at Grumpy's and were treated even more poorly. I can't believe that I gave these people my money and that they are able to get away with such pity, piss poor customer service. I hope that Mr. Lahousse sees this and reaches out because this is as pitiful and embarrassing to his establishment. I will never set foot in Grumpy's again and I will make sure that all my family and friends most of whom are from Bellingham do the same because this was ridiculous. The fact that poor service and bad management and absolute rudeness are tolerated in a well known establishment is astonishing. I urge everyone reading this to stay away from Grumpy's and to go somewhere else because this was unacceptable and I do not wish this type of thing to happen to anybody who just wants to enjoy their evening. read more
