All of my kids likes to study here. This school has different programs for my three kids. My oldest boy is in elementary school, and now he is in the after school program which is from 3 to 6 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday. My second daughter is 4 years old, and she just participate a sprouting class, which is once a week and one hour each time. My youngest boy is in the Parents & Me program in which we can participate together. As a parent, I really like the way that I can study with my youngest one in the classroom. Not only did I learned some basic Chinese words, but I also learn some games or activities that can engage my kids in learning. Though we spent 2 months on the waitlist, I think it worth the time. My little girl always shares the new songs or stories she learned in the class. And I'm glad to see my oldest boy can read and write more and more Chinese characters now. The teachers are definitely nice, as are all of the staff. The only drawback, for me, is they mix kids of all ages in a summer camp; for example a 6+ will be mixed with older kids up to 12, maybe even older. I can only speak of their summer curriculum which we thought was reasonably good. Our son who spoke no Mandarin was hesitant to try out the program but was pleasantly surprised with it. Not only did he have fun, but he also learned a few phrases. Instructors seem to be very caring. The only complaint is that their weekly field trips are always held in very inconvenient times and tend to be poorly organized. For example the field trips tend to start around 10:30am-11am at locations sometimes across LA which means you can't drop off the kids before then and have to pick them up early. This means that parents have to change their office schedules every week for late drop offs and early pickups. Sadly, they don't offer any alternatives so parents have to deal with it. The communication between the school, the parents, and the instructors during field trips is also very poor so everybody involved is left confused and delayed as we tried to straighten things out over the phone. But all in all, it's a good program. We plan to return next year, but hope they can work on improving the field trips. read more

The teacher at the school are enthusiastic, responsible and professional. They provide different courses for students at different ages (from 3 to over 14), including AP class. They also have summer camps. Kids can learn while having fun here. Some have already been learning with Growing Trees for 5 years, which kind of surprised me. The director and other stuff here are friendly and helpful too. My nephew is in Little Sampling Class 1b and he likes it a lot. This is the tenth month since he started to have class here and he can handle basic daily conversations now. He has also made many friends and has learned a lot about Chinese culture. They don't offer class in the morning though. But it's perfect for after-school program and tutorial class. Highly recommended. read more

I'm a mom of two kids. My kids have been here for 4 years since Parents&Me. Now they are still learning sapling elementary classes here. I like there very much because the teachers here are very responsible and my kids never feel stressed and overwhelmed by work loads. From the 45-minute-Parent&Me to 3-hour-sapling classes, I think this place really helped my kids and they also improved a lot. I just saw Curly H.'s comment on Yelp. I received message from a parent whose last name is H. She said she contacted the teacher at Growing trees privately and asked me to have our kids have class together at her place. As a result, my kids can't take the classes normally for two months. I think what she did upset me which make me change my kids' schedule from weekday to weekends because I trust Growing trees and the teachers here, and in the United States, this behavior is not appropriate and actually, illegal. I'll tell administrative assistant of Growing Trees about this. I really love this center and recommend to all of you! read more

I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants their child to be bilingual. My preschooler loves coming here. For an english only speaking household, Mandarin seems intimidating to me but the staff and teachers are so kind and positive with the kids. Great facility to learn Chinese!! My goddaughter has been attending there since 5 year old and very happy to see how she excel with both reading and writing. LOVEEEE this school for my 18 months old!!! I've been looking for a place where my baby can learn mandarin interactively and with tons of fun, and this is exactly what Growing Trees provides. The teachers here love the kids and what they do, so when they teach, they always have a big smile on, and oh so patient. If we are learning fruit today, they have fruit toys so the kids and play with them. I live close to La Crescenta so it's an easy drive as well. My kids actually learned something. They can now write 300 Chinese characters and know much more new words. The teachers and other staffs are very nice and patient. Because of my working schedule, I can't pick up my kids after class. This Chinese school has their own driver to help me pick up my kids! For kids 3-5 years of age, the Seedling Class is a wonderful program for them to learn Chinese. The focus is on expanding their vocabulary. Each week, a new theme is introduced to the class of 6-8 kids. Small classroom size enables the instructor to give attention to everyone. The kids will also bring back assignment of the day, usually coloring or crafting assignment, highlighting the vocab they learned in the class. Transportations, zoo animals, farm animals, fruits, vegetables, family members are among the topics I have seen. Each assignment is accompanied by online material that the parent can assess to through Growing Trees web portal. During the week, parents and child can practice their vocab by listening to the online audio file. During a class observation--parents can sit at the back of the classroom during the first trial class--, the students were asked to role play purchasing groceries from a stall. Fake money and coins were exchanged for fruits, veges and canned food. All the students were having a blast while learning. Overall, well executed learning program for the kids. read more
