This place is amazing. My girls love coming to mathisum. Not only are they both catching up in math, but they have gained so much confidence in their math abilities. I love the fact that they do a free evaluation and tell you exactly what your child is missing. They also test the students every three months and you can meet with someone to go over the testing. As a parent it's always very clear where your child is in math. They also have lots of incentives that keep the kids excited about math. Addressing the two negative reviews about the studio... for parking I always find street parking or there are a lot of places close by that I hangout at for the hour the girls are at math. Starbucks free WiFi Also I am not sure how a parent does not know how their child is doing in math. The evaluation they sit down and go over with you and every three months they send a link to sign up for a conference and if you cannot make the conference they send the results. What a great place! My 9 year old son has been going to Mathnasium now for 3 months. He has made HUGE improvements across the board with all his math skills, and he is also learning to love math. Before we started at Mathnasium, he'd say things like "I'm just not good at math" and would make random guesses when faced with a math problem. In the last 3 months of working with the tutors at Mathnasium, his confidence has skyrocketed and I can tell he has a much better and deeper understanding of math concepts. The tutors and administrative staff are awesome, and even though it's a busy center (it's popular!), they connect with each kid on an individual level. Without any prompting from me, the manager emailed me with the results of my son's 3 month assessment and invited me to come discuss it in person when I'm back from vacation. My daughter (5th grade) tested in at half of a 3rd grade level in math. In 2.5 months she has almost completed all of the third grade requirements. She absolutely loves it here! Kids at school will sometimes make fun of her for not knowing something but she just pipes up and tells them, "at least I'm getting the help that I need." She doesn't feel ashamed about not knowing. They set goals and most days she meets them by when she doesn't it just encourages her to try harder next time. It's all 100% positive for her. read more

I want to thank everyone who reads my opinion before hand. No parking spaces. They don't want you to park and see what's going on with your child or how you're child are treated by tutors. Today, I was told by assist director to move my car politely. I asked him, if they have webcam to see, what's going on inside or my child is studying with tutor or just left alone? The assist director told me no. Just other day, my child came back crying not answering me. Not once, several times, crying after end of her sessions. I asked A+ tutors what happened during the session, they said they don't know. Ever since, I sit inside until end of her session. She had no problems ever since. Few sessions later, I was asked to wait outside, just because they said no spaces inside. Other parents goes inside without problems even with foods. Now, they're telling me to move my car, not to wait for my child in Parking lot. The assistant director told me, Parking is not allowed only drop off. I've seen others parking in handicap parking or whereever they wanted to park and wait, just other day not once several times. As an Asian American we're always discriminated daily by others. I don't want my child to see that or take that from anyone. That's why I took my child out of A+. I hope I'm not the only one thinking that way. Thanks for reading... read more

It's disappointing, all the time, money, effort and hope to be wasted. It's too late to fix it now. Its's also my fault because I failed to keep up with the tutoring sessions. But, I thought the tutors and managers of this business do things properly. I never got feedback from them about my child's progress. And, since my son didn't have many tests at school, I didn't realize the problems, until the end of the year. It's tool late to fix it now. He didn't pass, and he has to repeat the class. That's one year of effort. Why did I take him to tutoring? What did they do? Why they didn't tell me anything about his progress, so i could do some adjustment? Our effort is gone. I don't like to leave reviews. I do it for 2 reasons. one, for the managers to learn their mistakes and fix their system. I am so glad for this location. It is literally 3 minutes from my house. I met with Maya ( the owner) who is not only an amazing person , but also very welcoming and attentive to my concerns about my daughters success in math. After a brief evaluation of my daughter, She suggested a great plan for her. Maya, and her staff immediately started working with my daughter. It has been only a week, and my husband and I have seen a great improvement. Last school year my daughter and I were having all kinds of trouble with her math homework. It was causing great stress for both of us. My daughter was in 3rd grade at the time and about to be left behind by her classmates. Math was no longer fun or interesting to her! I called Mathnasium to see if they could help. We started going there 3 times a week. It is super cool that you can come when you want and how often you want. I love going on Saturdays because I like to take her out for a treat after all her hard work, special time for us. The facility is right next to an awesome park (Fremont Park), where I take my little 5 year old while her sister does math! Perfect location. I also just found a Trader Joe's around the corner. Love dropping her off and getting errands done. After just a couple weeks attending Mathnasium, my daughter was already doing better in school and looking forward to not only doing her math homework, but also going to the Mathnasium 3 days a week. She looks forward to the friendly employees (Chris is her favorite!) and she has made good friends with the owner (Maya). I really love the one-on-one attention she gets. She has become more confident in math at school and much more efficient with her computation skills. Her teacher has even taken notice. In fact, we went away for this summer vacation and just returned to Mathnasium. Right away the instructors realized she was really rusty and needed to review what she was working on before she left! My daughter takes great pride in wearing her Mathnasium t-shirt and carrying around her Mathnasium water bottle that she earned with their punch card system, with which you can win awesome prizes! Great instructors. Friendly and most helpful. You will enjoy having your child learning and having fun at the same time.

We've been with this facility for about two years or more and very happy with it for several reasons: clean, friendly staff and flexible curriculum with personal attention. Maya and Victoria have been always there to listen to our personal needs and customizing worksheets to suit our wants. My kid started there with B/ B+ and now getting a stable A. And whenever we had any little issue with the curriculum or facility, Maya the owner took it in her own hands and took care of it immediately. Only thing that I wish for them is to be open on Fridays, As a result, we're there only 4 days/ week. They're open on Saturdays but as we live in La Crescenta, it would be inconvenient. Parking can be a little tricky as some parents consistently park illegally in the Handicapped space, therefore crowding the small lot further and even double parking in the front waiting for the kids to come out. Watch when you are backing up. Overall, It's been a safe and pleasant place to take the kids. read more

The most powerful argument I can give anyone for attending Mathnasium or for choosing Mathnasium over your average math tutor is that Mathnasium offers a thorough assessment of your child's grasp of math concepts. This is crucial because children can't build on fundamental concepts if they haven't mastered them. The program finds the gaps and works on those specific problem areas. I also love the way the instructors rotate around the desks in the center with the kids sitting around the outside of a large circle (at this particular Mathnasium). The kids work independently (which is great to encourage) but they always have the opportunity to ask for help when they get stuck. And with the instructors rotating, they can get new perspectives on the same concept. (You never know which explanation is going to trigger that aha moment.) As for the reward system, I was initially uncomfortable with it. My kids certainly don't need more toys or treats in their lives. I have come to see how the reward program helps them understand the value of things (1 punch card versus 150 punch cards). It also encourages delayed gratification. Having to wait for a prize and save up punch cards is a great lesson in patience. And even the small rewards work to get a more reluctant child to be motivated to work through their math pages. I agree with the positive reviews below, so I won't go on too much about how great the center, Maya, and her staff are (and they are indeed fabulous!). They are real educators. Maya, in particular, has given me insights into how my children are learning (or why they are fighting the process!). We especially love the happy vibe at the Glendale Mathnasium. Both of my kids have improved dramatically in math. And both of them have confidence and even joy in doing math. I can't ask for more than that. read more

The tutors here have been very helpful with my child, even remembering certain things I want them to focus on and other little things to please ignore in my child's work. They have a regular schedule of progress updates and reviews that they keep on top of with parents. I thought I would post an update to the review below posted 7 months ago. My daughter just began 3rd grade and has been continuously attending Mathnasium for almost a year now. She still loves going, and Mathnasium has become part of her regular routine. She is now working on the 6th grade curriculum and it looks like she will come close to completing middle school math this year. The curriculum, created by a gifted math teacher who began teaching in inner city schools and taught his son, a math prodigy, works well for all types of kids. I don't have experience with other Mathnasium locations, but this Glendale location is exceptionally well run with a fantastic staff, great new managerial team duo Eric and Evette, and owner Maya. They do lots of fun activities in addition to the punch card / prize system which is really effective in motivating the kids. The cost is not cheap because of the low student / teacher ratio and can be a deterrent to some, but it is a worthy investment. Still having a great experience and highly recommend! My 2nd grade daughter loves Mathnasium! She was bored in school and had complained about math being too easy since 1st grade. We worked with Singapore Math for a while, which she liked, but she loves the environment at Mathnasium and earning punchcards. She feels a sense of progression and is able to go quickly at her own pace. Since joining four months ago, attending 3x per week, she has completed the 3rd grade curriculum and is working her way through 4th grade. Mathnasium is her favorite activity and she has developed a lot of pride and interest in math. Liking and being good at math has become a big part of her identity. Other kids come to Mathnasium because they are struggling in math, and these parents have similarly good things to say. My first grader was already achieving high marks in Math at school so we use Mathnasium to challenge him so he wouldn't be "bored" doing his regular school work. He continues to stay motived and happy while achieving his Math goals. My 3rd grader struggled slightly with Math which brought us to this location. After 4 months of regular attendance at Mathnasium she continues to excel and gain more confidence! Mathnasium has taught her to find other ways to solve problems while doing math at school which in return has motivated her to succeed. Personally, I LOVE the 'drop in hours.' As a busy working mom with 2 kids, Mathnasium allows us to drop in for the hour of tutoring WHENEVER they are open. It's perfect! We're not held down to a set time or day within our busy lives. I wouldn't have believed it but my 7th grader loves to go to Mathnasium. She has been going for about a month and her recent math test have already improved. She likes the mastery challenges, it is like little accomplishments that keep her motivated and small success along the way. I like that it is quiet and everyone who helps her is very patient. She says they will explain a concept over and over in different ways until she gets it. The drop-in schedule works much better for us than scheduling a set-time for a tutor which is what we have done previously. It is not inexpensive but when I calculate the number of hours she is at Mathnasium, it is actually less than if she had a private tutor for all those hours. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Mathnasium of Glendale! Last fall, our 7th grade daughter hit the math wall in Accelerated 7/8 math. The new concepts combined with a unsupportive teacher left her feeling quite frustrated and insecure about math. Joining Mathnasium was the absolute best choice we could have made to help support our daughter's math progress. Maya, Victoria and all of the instructors there are incredibly patient, very engaging, supportive and they know their math! I think they offer our daughter the perfect balance of independence and direct instruction while she is there. From the very first day, our daughter left the center with a huge sigh of relief because she was finally taught in a supportive manner and was able to understand the new concepts. The instructors there take the time to explain the concepts in multiple ways, give her time to problem solve on her own and then check on her for understanding. It was not long before she would come home from school and ASK to go to mathnasium! The staff even took the time to put together specific study materials for her final exams. A great thing about mathnasium is that the students can attend as much as they want/need for the same price. There are days when our daughter was there for 3 hours or more studying for an exam. And other days when she only had time to pop in for 40 minutes for some help with her homework. No matter when she attends, the instructors are there to welcome her and work with her right where she left off. We know Mathnasium of Glendale is fantastic because our once math frustrated student is now ASKING to continue working at Mathnasium during the summer!!! This is my first Yelp review ever!! But it's worth taking the time to write for Mathnasium of Glendale! This place truly works wonders and my 3 kids loved it. At first it was intended for my eldest boy. Eventually, his younger brother and sister saw how much fun he had and how he liked going...now my 2 little ones attend as well. They all like going! It's pretty crazy and never in my wildest dreams did I think I would hear them say they look forward to going to do MATH! They were each assessed and each have different needs. Once the results were shown and clearly explained to me, it helped me to better understand. The staff are all super friendly and patient with the kids (and not only mine). I receive updates on the kids' progress, which I like. The kids also like the punch card system. It motivates them and it works! The hours we attend are flexible. Maya and her staff work with our schedule which I am thankful for :) The chess days and play is also a major plus! The kids have learned chess (even my 6 year old!) They now play at home...love it! Mathnasium is totally worth checking out. I highly recommend it to everyone. Wether your kid is behind in math or advanced in math....wether she/he hates or loves math, this place is the best! I cannot recommend Maya, Victoria and all the staff at Mathnasium enough. I had tried tutors, after school programs and countless frustrating hours for years with my three children. I feared Mathnasium would be another dead end but NO! They LIKED coming here and that made all the difference! My kids started at 4th and 6th grades, so they were both 1) sure of what they did and did not like and 2) very convinced by school that they were "bad at math". They were TOUGH to help by the time we landed with Maya. But from Day One, things were night and day different here! I was terrified my 6th graders would be launched into Middle School at a terrible deficit but they went from getting progress reports and 2's at school to now getting A's and B's! The best part is the confidence. As a parent, I could (and did) honestly cry over how hard math was for them and how much it hurt them to feel "stupid". To see them now confident and STAYING AT IT when they have a hard time, because now they EXPECT to GET IT, well. I think you can guess from my caps that it makes my heart surge.
