    Sausage calzone
    Andi W.

We love having groundlings right down the street and have tried many of their menu items. This evening we ordered A Fungus Amungus-pistachio pesto, pecorino, fresh mozzarella, oyster mushrooms and beer sausage. Our friends ordered You Get More Beautiful Everyday- tomato sauce, Parmesan, mozzarella, soppresatta salami, roast garlic, hot honey. Both are delicious. We also love the calzones, our grandson went nuts for the s'mores one last summer I can't wait to take him back this summer. Drinks were tasty, service was great and they even had live music while we were there. -Andi

The drinks and beer were great and the pizza was better! Nice friendly place with a killer view of the Rogue. Nice outdoor patio area where dogs are allowed. We had the Smelly Nelly with mushrooms and 3 different cheeses. The crust was superb. Thin and charred on the bottom, with a nice "chew" that tasted like it had some sourdough in it. Oh and the bathrooms rock too! Gold Beach is darn lucky to have this gem.

Fantastic cheese pizza, sausage calzones and beer on tap! Atmosphere is nice and has good views of the river. Probably the best place to eat in Gold Beach right now so make sure to visit!

We really enjoyed our visit to the groundlings pizza place, real laid-back and relaxed with wonderful close up view of the Rogue river. So many interesting pizzas to choose from and you can watch them make it right there in front of you. Wonderful assortment of toppings available, definitely recommend. Everybody was very friendly and helpful and picking out the pizza for us. Also, they do have gluten-free pizza...

    Half smelly Nelly half pepperoni
    Aly R.

We got half smelly Nelly (AMAZING) and half pepperoni (also amazing) we had to do all red sauce to do this combo. It was still so so so good. We got a ride of ranch not expecting it to be the dill ranch and it was intense with the dill flavoring. They had a little live band playing tonight. Beautiful view of the river. Pizza crust was perfectly crispy and soft. Service was great! I can see why everyone rates this place so highly!!! I'd come back just for the pizza!

Kind of a hip dive bar meets delicious food with a sprinkle of old timers ready to share a story or two with you while you wait. We got burgers, cuz duh... Look at these things!! I got mine with a side salad instead of fries and my friend got the fries. All of it was delicious. There was zero chance either of us were able to finish these monsters so the rest came home with us. The side salad was amazing! Fries were delicious. And the burgers did not disappoint. The guy at the counter was super friendly and everyone in the establishment gave off a friendly vibe. Happy they were the only place open when we were driving through. We would definitely visit again.

It took a total of TWO hours and 15 minutes, and that's AFTER we went up to the counter to ask about the pizza progress. No apologies from staff once pizza came. -Food 3/5: Pizza was not bad, just not memorable. It's heavy, but I mean..it's pizza. Their ranch was prob my favorite food item & my family thought the wings were alright. -Ambiance 3/5: It's the exact vibe of what you would expect from a dive bar, but the staff obviously favors locals-only. Tourists may feel like all eyes are on them. Pros: -One of few places for late-night dinner/grub. -Allows you to experience a Port Orford locals' bar spot. -There's karaoke apparently on Saturday nights which may be fun to check out. TLDR: If you do need a late-night spot for food, do not get the pizza...NOT worth the wait. Grab some apps & beers and just enjoy the local bar vibe of Port Orford.

Both really good and made in their stone oven. We also got the calmari for appetizers. Calamari cooked perfectly, not rubbery. Light batter, crispy, and seasoned really well that gave it great flavor. Others in the group ordered a clam chowder bread bowl, chicken Parmesan, fish & chips and shrimp & chips. The overall consensus was good. Casual atmosphere and perfect location. It's at the boardwalk near an arcade. During the day, there's also ice cream and coffee nearby. Couldn't get any pictures.

We came down to Brookings to take care of some business and decided to stop in for lunch and a drink afterwards. We weren't especially hungry so we ordered our usual favorites (clam chowder for me and steamer clams for the fellow) that combo usually helps us decide whether or not we want to return, without breaking the bank on a new spot. Our server was delightful, she was kind and attentive without being overbearing. Our order took a little longer than expected for what we ordered but we didn't mind, we had some nice blackberry cider they had on tap to tide us over. I was a little disappointed when our meals came out and I didn't get a slice of bread with my bowl of clam chowder like the fellow did with his steamers, but we were able to buy a half batard for $5 and that was perfect for us to split. It came out warm with a side of butter and complimented the chowder much nicer than the oyster crackers they originally brought out would have. In fact I recommend getting the bread if you order the chowder, it almost stole the show. The chowder was delicious, could've been warmer but still very tasty, the potatoes were cut super thin, and the clams were plump and tender and tasted fresh, they did add bacon but not in overwhelming amounts, and I thought it was spiced perfectly. I only added a few shakes of red pepper flakes to finish it. The fellow thought his steamer clams/mussels were marvelous, with a very flavorful broth, and he loved the fact that he was allowed to mix them. They made a good first impression on us, we will definitely be returning for dinner and ordering a couple of pizzas and perhaps a salad as well. Who knows, they may prove to be one of our new favorite spots.

Best thin crust tavern style pizza we've had in a long time, in a very unexpected location…read more My wife, her mom, and I had just crossed the Oregon-California border into Oregon and used the nearby Dollar Tree in Brookings to be our end point on our fourth day Internet access had been spotty throughout our trip through Big Sur and then Redwood parks, so used a combination of Google maps and Yelp to find nearby businesses, just for fun. Fat Cat showed up with high ratings. None of us were particularly hungry, but their ratings for thin-crust pizza piqued my interest, so we adjusted our plans and walked in. There was one employee (Ian) working on this mid afternoon time on hump day, so had to get his attention while he was working in the back. You place and pay for your order first, so ordered a medium thin crust pineapple/ham ($15). Not knowing what to expect, I asked if the pizza crust could be made well done. We sat down at the fast food booths, and didn't have to wait long. When the pizza came, all of us knew immediately by the sight and smell that it was going to be great. The crust was the perfect thinness, and the toppings were generous. Our plan was to sample some of it and then take the rest back, but the three of us ended eating every single piece. It was that good. We learned a bit more about the business from Ian. It used to be a franchise pizza joint, but the owner decided to stop being a franchisee, and create a local name. 'Gato Gordo' was thrown out as an early name, with the final name being chosen as the winner from an early Christmas party secret Santa gift. The pizza crust is consistently made by a dough sheeter at a low thinness setting. This might be sacrilegious, but I think I prefer this way vs the hand tossed NY style that is way more prevalent (and way more expensive).

My husband got the salad bar. Based on other reviews I inspected the salad bar before he ordered and didn't find any concerns. The ingredients were fresh and he piled the plate high. Our pizza was fantastic! We got a medium Wild Side and subbed out half without olives and extra pepperoni instead. The crust was thin and perfectly crispy. All ingredients were generous and fresh. I sampled a couple of the beers before landing on the Kolsh. Is a solid beer among several that were very good. It's a medium size space and has an old school pizza place vibe. There are a couple games for the kids (in all of us) and a pool table. Music is mixed genre and isn't so loud that you can't have a conversation. Seating is long tables, family style, chairs are comfortable. Overall I would have no hesitation to return here and bring, or recommend it, to friends and family. (Or strangers like you for that matter!) 10/10 recommend! Get in here for good pizza and beer!!

We ordered a small Deli Delight Pizza (linguica, mushrooms, pepperoni, olives, and pork sausage, $22). The pizza was delicious. Small was definitely enough for both of us, and we had some left to take home and munch on later. Their pizza is unique in that the sauce and toppings are spread all the way to the edge of the dough. The pizza is cut it into perfect-sized pieces, which they call the "party cut". From their website: "Owners Jerry and Bertha Miller tell the story: When they served their first pizza at the grand opening in 1975, a large crowd of helpers, friends and neighbors were present and waiting hungrily. So they chopped that first pizza into many pieces, so everyone could have a bite. It turned out to be a great way to serve pizza, especially to large parties." Well, we were only a party of two, but we loved the party cut. Service was good, and the pizza came out quickly. Glad we stopped in.

My friend asked if she was sure or pretty sure. She said she would check but never came back. Then the weird part happened. We had placed our orders, the other tables were now full, but nobody had food, except that one party that arrived before us. We assume there was some problem in the kitchen but she never came back to explain or apologize for the very long wait. Not to us, or anyone. When she eventually brought the food out, there was no apology or acknowledgement for the long wait. And she brought my friend a salad instead of the soup which she had inquired about. She did explain that she couldn't get an answer to her allergy question so she wanted to be safe. But wouldn't you tell the customer before just bringing the food? Anyway the food was all delicious!!
