Very upsetting that Lyle moved away from NYC... I've worked with Ground Control for about two years on various films and TV shows. Whenever we needed any kind of wired/wireless networking, shared storage, or printing solution in our production office, we called Lyle. In my particular circumstances, a one year old laptop had been making loud noises and would not fully boot to windows. Lyle provided advice regarding his initial suspicion for the problem and a price quoted over the phone. After coming in, he provided two options (one replacing the hard drive for less and one for more) without pressuring for the higher cost option. However, the need for a repair disappeared when my computer mysteriously decided to start working again and accordingly made me look like a crazy person. Although working again, the system rolled back some of the data and the wireless stopped functioning. Lyle then fixed the wireless problem (without charging) and said to come back if the hard drives permanently crashes. Lyle will provide honest and pressure free advice for your computer repair. His hourly rate seems fair and if the repair exceeds the value of your system, he will let you know. read more

After reading the previous reviews, I decided to contact Lyle about my 5 year old laptop which suddenly stopped booting up. I am glad that I did so. He provided very honest advice over the phone on what the likely problems might be. Since I still wanted to find out specifically what the problem was, he proposed the solution of having an unopened computer on standby for when he diagnoses the old machine. If it was a simple fix, the new machine could be returned otherwise he could try to recover and transfer my data from the old hard drive. Within the first two seconds (no exaggeration) of listening to the laptop attempt to boot he identified that the hard drive was bad and immediately set to recovering my data. Given his experience and knowledge this process was incredibly quick. The part that took time was transferring everything over that I wanted and cleaning up my programs and files afterwards, given that my previous hard drive was an accumulation from 3 different computers over the past 12 years. I am not as fluent as I used to be with the latest tech so I learned a lot in speaking with Lyle while the data was transferring. My previous experience in dealing with a retail giant's computer repair staff left me as blue as their sign. I paid more and got little ... after waiting a few days. I had a similar experience to Vicky D. I had a 3-year-old a laptop with what I suspected was a fried graphics card due to overheating. I knew the card was on the motherboard itself and I knew I didn't want to try to fix it myself. I called Lyle to see if he could confirm that was the issue and repair my laptop. I e-mailed Lyle based on the reviews here. My 4 and half year-old laptop was continuously overheating and shutting down, most likely due to a broken cooling fan. I told him my story and asked for a solution and a quote in price. He told me he could replace the fan, but suggested I use the money to buy a new laptop. I was completely impressed with his honesty. Seriously great service. I work from home and my PC died on a Friday. Lyle came to my house Sat morning and 1.5 hours later I had a new PC up and running plus a host of other fixes. I had a fairly new HP laptop with a crashed hard drive and a 2003 Dell that was acting up as well. I didn't know where to turn because I had a bad experience with an IT technician a year ago. My computer was acting up in strange ways-still functional but constantly needed to be rebooted. I contacted Lyle for advice. He was extremely helpful in our phone conversation and diagnosed the problem as probably related to a failing hard drive. He confirmed the problem on a visit the next day. He recommended I replace the original hard drive with a solid state version with higher capacity. He installed the new drive the next day and transferred all my data perfectly.
