I have been wanting to try this place for a while! I'm pregnant and can't get enough salad. I was craving a cold, fresh, but not exactly the healthiest salad if you know what I mean! So I ordered the "My Wife's Salad" with Danish Bleu dressing and wow--this thing weighs like 5 pounds! I can eat three meals from this one salad easily! Super fresh, filling, and the homemade dressing is soooo good! I also got a side of potato salad which is equally fabulous. The sweet tea is perfect! Their menu consists of everything the deli heavens have to offer! I can't wait to try other things very soon! A preggo woman's dream salad spot! read more

First time trying. Ordered a Jr Apollo. Thinly sliced ham and turkey was delicious with cheese melted on top. Bread seemed a little chewy. I would have preferred a bit toasted. Groucho's Deli is a small chain of Jewish-style delicatessens that opened in Columbia, South Carolina in 1941. It was founded by Harold "Groucho" Miller. After his childhood in a Philadelphia orphanage, Miller later relocated to Columbia as an adult. He was given the nickname "Groucho" because of his marked resemblance to comedian Groucho Marx. Miller opened his first delicatessen on Lady Street with a handful of original recipes for potato salad, coleslaw, and dressings for both salads and sandwiches. The deli later moved to Main Street and then finally to its current location on Harden Street in Five Points. After passing away in 1974, Miller's son Ivan took over the establishment. Beginning in 2000, the Miller family began franchising Groucho's. By early 2025, there will be 27 locations in South Carolina, 2 in North Carolina and 1 in Georgia. My family and I visited the Summerville location of Groucho's (opened December 2017) this past summer while we were visiting family in town. We were looking for a place to grab lunch, and we couldn't say no to a good Jewish-style deli. The place was spacious, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and we loved all of the kitschy decor. I had the "STP Dipper" (special blend of roast beef, turkey, Swiss cheese melt, and real bacon crumbs on a fat sub roll), my wife had the "Reuben Variation" (extra-lean pastrami, melted Muenster cheese, heated 'kraut and German mustard served on Jewish rye bread), and our older son had a "Hot Dog" from the Kids Menu. All of our plates were served with potato chips and a pickle. Everybody was very happy with their choices! My wife and I paired our sandwiches with some delicious Dr. Brown's Root Beer. That lunch really hit the spot! We'll definitely stop at a Groucho's again the next time we visit South Carolina! read more

Walked in and sat at their bar counter. Gives me old school diner vibes. Was greeted right away with friendly staff. Sandwich options were unique and came out fairly quick. My husbands sandwich was completely falling apart and very difficult to eat and the bottom was soaked from the slaw juice, what we did eat of it was pretty good. Mine was pretty dry and bread wasn't toasted, so for me personally is not my favorite when it comes to sandwiches. It was overall very average for such an old and famous sandwich shop nearby. read more

The space was larger than I thought and the service was good. We went I. A school fundraiser night and it was busy!!! The sandwiches were good but I was surprised there weren't very many toppings to offer, so we got the sandwiches pretty plain. The sauces were good though so I'd recommend that. read more

I love how busy such a small business was! It was hard to find a table but once we sat, the waitress was attentive, quick, and so friendly. She was so familiar with all her regulars and was willing to hold conversation which is hard to find in todays world. The amazing sandwiches was just a bonus to the great atmosphere. read more

My first visit was this week! Excellent visit, food choice. Employee I met was very cordial. Took the time to give suggestions on the menu. He was very happy to answer questions I had abt rest. & owner! Interesting that he even stated it was the best Boss he has ever had! Awesome news for him to share..says alot abt the owner! The food IS MY FAVORITE!! The Apollo Dipper is to die for with the 45 sauce. I personally put my chips on top of my sandwich and then pour the sauce on top and MHMMMMM. We were wanting to try somewhere new and Groucho's fit the bill. We heard great things about it and decided to give it a try. The restaurant was very clean and well lit. The staff was very polite and friendly. From here their stars started to fall. We order a soda and a tea and when it arrived they both tasted a bit funky, like dirty water. We at first thought it was just the ice but after trying just a soda without any ice it too tasted dirty. Our sandwiches were not very exciting and rather boring. Their chips and Danish Bleu were to bad together. Based on our experience we probably won't be back anytime soon. read more

I had heard good things about Groucho's, so I was excited to give it a try. Who doesn't love a good sandwich? Well....we stopped in for an early dinner & there was plenty of seating available. The place looks clean & tidy. The staff was very friendly! They have all of that going for them, I just wish the food matched everything else. I ordered the STP dipper & was just not impressed. It essentially had no flavor, which was disappointing. The bread was soft though, so I guess that's a plus. I have never had their chips before, but they seemed a little on the stale side to me...maybe that's how they are supposed to be? Idk. The biggest issue was that their drinks tasted dirty, like they needed to change their filter. I wanted to go ask other patrons if they had the same issues with their drinks, but I didn't bother anyone. I wouldn't say that I would never give it another shot, but as of right now, I don't think I will be back any time soon. read more

Great customer service DOES still exist!!!!!!! Guys, just go, you won't regret it! The tuna melt was MASSIVE and so well put together. I love their homemade chips and dip. Husband got the turkey one (can't remember the name) but it was humongous and he said it was so good and couldn't wait to go back. Now, the customer service??? I felt like I was family! I had tons of questions, being my first time there, and the girl was so knowledgeable, patient, and kind! You just can't find that anymore. Food came out quick. I am literally writing this review while waiting for my sandwich because although the sandwiches are good the blond old lady server is an absolute nasty b***h. When I didn't tip on a pick up order she sneered and crumpled up the receipt (when I was ACTUALLY pulling out cash to leave a few bucks). NOPE. And I won't be back.
