I was looking to try a new place for lunch and stumbled upon Grossman's deli. This is a hidden gem on Rt 35 and I'm happy to support a small, family owned business. Upon arrival I was warmly greeted and placed my order to go. I ordered their famous corned beef Reuben and my husband tried the Jersey cheesesteak. Both were delicious! Went there for lunch today with my wife and i witnessed racism yet again we over heard most customers being to you can pay on the way out which I found a little weird because when my order was ready and I was dining in I was told to pay now hahahah and others who dined in were told to pay on the way out and they were all yt I'm black so I was left wondering as for the food I had a hot pastrami and the wifey had a sloppy Joe so i give this place a rating of 3 and i surely will not recommend this place to anyone with that type of racial behavior grossman you failed us terribly wrong and i will truly spread our experince on thanks!! Found myself in Towne Shopping Plaza around lunch time and popped into Grossman's for lunch. Home made roast beef on a fresh baked roll with macaroni salad on the side. A perfect lunch! I've been to Grossman's many times and 've never been disappointed. Sometimes I just stop in to get a buttered roll. They make the rolls fresh on premises as they do with their turnovers. The people there are always friendly and the food is always great. I tend to rotate between the roast beef, the corned beef and the pastrami when I go. If I had to rate the sandwiches alone, this place would get a solid four stars from me, but the deli salads that come as a side, leave much to be desired for my taste. Their macaroni, coleslaw and potato salad seem to be the type that are pre-made and shipped to them, very much like you would get in a supermarket. Overly sweet and very soupy. This deli should realize "Richards" and "Neil's", make theirs fresh on a daily basis and with real mayonnaise, as opposed to the sweet salad dressing kind used in cheaper, off the shelf salads that are just so obligatory, and believe me, it makes a huge difference, when pairing with a good deli sandwich! Love the service, and they have a cool give away, cruiser bike contest you can enter. I do love the sandwiches and will definitely be back for them. They serve breakfast as well. Just really wish they would work on the salads and use real deli style sides, and this place would be perfect. read more

I grew up in this area and we used to come here all the time. The food was really good. Haven't been back in years so we took some take out food. I was so disappointed. The pork roll/egg/cheese was small, pork roll wasn't cooked enough, skimped on sandwich fillings, really lame. The fries had so much salt I think the shaker must have broken because it was literally dumped on there and the fries were inedible. The tuna was fishy with some questionable parts in there, got a bad piece of tomato and the lettuce was wilted. My daughter got grilled chicken sandwich and it was loaded with veins and grizzly pieces. The cheese steak was just ok. Really sad we wasted so much money here. No one ate their food and it was disappointing. read more

Lunch today was nice but not a real treat. My yard stick for measuring Jewish deli is their pastrami on rye. Unfortunately, Grossman's under delivers with simply an OK sandwich. Average quality meat and a rather skimpy portion that left we wanting. i walked out still hungry - which was not good. On the plus side nice pickle and very good rye bread, from Freedman's. I might go back again but not anytime soon. read more

I've lived in the area for over 20 years, never heard about this place. But I noticed it tucked away in a large strip mall around lunch time so I figured I'd give it a shot. There seemed to be regulars coming in and getting "the usual" staff referring to customers by name, sending greetings to common friends. It all felt very neighborhood friendly. They didn't know me, so they were polite but in some ways I felt very out of place. Figuring out the menu, choosing a side grabbing a drink it seemed like all the things I had to do were an annoyance. I have no barometer for NY deli. I ordered a corned beef sandwich with macaroni salad on the side. They are a Pepsi account with a fountain behind the counter, but I just grabbed a bottle. I opted to sit in their little dining area. There are 2 fish tanks and lots of nautical things on the wall. A muted TV had sports highlights on. I felt like it took a while to get my food, but was happy with it for the most part. Macaroni salad was fresh and had a nice sweet finish to it, fresh pickles added a nice crunch. Corned beef was hot and just the right salted taste that leave you happy. I will say it seemed like the corned beef wasn't really piled on, so I found myself still hungry. That may have more to do with me than their portion size. Maybe I'll hit up DoCo down the block. All in all for $10 it wasn't a bad lunch. I left feeling a little blah, I'll try again another day. Worth a visit, let me know how you make out. read more

I went in on Friday and purchased 2 coffees, an egg sandwich, and a bag of rye bread rounds. After I purchased the food and I was sitting eating there with my brother, I asked them for a half a teaspoon of butter to go on a piece on the rye bread I just bought. They insisted on charging me for a 1/2 teaspoon of butter. Based on the principal I wouldn't buy it. Told them I won't be back and they told me they don't need customers like me. Oh well! read more

Stopped for breakfast and had to get a pork roll egg and cheese on a hard roll with salt pepper ketchup and it was soooo good. The roll was crunchy on the outside but not too hard, soft on the inside and not too much bread. Nice portion of pork roll and perfect ratio of egg and cheese. I have become a fan of this deli as it is a family owned operation with the owner there every step of the way insuring quality. Suzie is a staff member that always brings a smile. Grossman's is not really a very good deli, in the N.Y. style tradition, but they make a killer, super thick pork roll and cheese sandwich, and their chicken noodle soup is very good. If you're coming here with big plans for a good pastrami sandwich, switch to plan "b". A Sloppy Joe on the menu that only costs $8.99 should be your tip off. But, if with a name like "Grossman's Deli", you can somehow un-set yourself up from the expectation that it is going to be a Jewish deli (good luck), and steer clear of those sandwiches, you might not be disappointed. read more

This is my favorite deli. I moved to ocean Twnsp in February and I needed to find a place where I can say I'm a regular there. This is the place. The staff are very friendly. This is my favorite PEC in the area. Granted I'm not from this area - but my girlfriends family has taken me to a bunch of spots around here. In my opinion, none hold a candle to Grossman's Deli. I crave it. I yearn for it. And it's consistently the first place I go when coming in to town. Only downside is they aren't open Sundays. But then again maybe that makes it even more special. Ok so granted I'm from Brooklyn and a bit spoiled by what a good deli, but with that said...... This place is a disaster!!! It's like they don't care about their patrons. "Just gimme my 8 bucks and choke on this sorry excuse for a sandwich". It's actually their slogan and written on their bags. Soups are terrible, either watered down or their cream based soups are like pudding, simply gross. Sandwiches are overstuffed (in a bad way) and overpriced. Lettuce is brown and tomatoes wilted, better skip it altogether. Go anywhere but here is my suggestion and just so you know, this wasn't based on one experience. I gave them several chances before taking to a public forum to inform my fellow yelpers to stay away. Up the road us clubhouse. Much better option!!!! read more

I went to Grossman's when I first moved down to Central Jersey in the 90s for work....bunch of us would hit it once a week or so......always good eats.....forgot about this place bouncing around the state for work but now back in the area.....still good eats.....solid. Staff is nice. Big selection of sub/sandwiches and also some backed goods. read more

This place doesn't even deserve a one star rating. Terrible service and food is not much better. When I walked in no one greeted me, the girls behind the counter were laughing and joking with the cook. I went and sat down and waited five minutes, no hostess or server came in so I walked up to the counter and said how does this work here? The lady said you order then you go sit down and they call you up. I ordered cheese steak and chicken noodle soup. The soup was barely warm in the cheesesteak was nothing special. I found Grossman's Deli to be fantastic! I had a variety of sandwiches, ranging from Roast Beef, Turkey, a Roast Beef and Turkey Sloppy Joe, Chicken Salad Wrap, Grilled Chicken with Fresh Mozzarella and roasted red pepper wrap. Although Grossmans might not be the best, traditional New York style deli, their sandwiches are by far the best in the area. Their grilled or fried chicken sandwiches are really delicious.
