After meeting my girlfriend, adventure started to come back in my bloodstream. First, it was skydiving, now on to a lesser thrill, ziplining. Of course, with every adventure comes a pre-reward: BREAKFAST! With our zipline scheduled at 12pm, we wanted to dine in the local neigborhood of Wrightwood. With the help of Yelp, we found the local, Grizzly Cafe.
You'll find the cozy Grizzly Cafe at either the entrance/exit in the local community of Wrightwood on State Highway 2. How you'll find Grizzly Cafe?! Just look at the name. I am sure you won't find a grizzly cat...Well maybe a grizzly mountain lion. Its always an experience to get out of the city and head out to the rural area. Grizzly Cafe seems to be one of those spots where everyone comes in for breakfast, lunch, and dinner just to catch up and share moments. The weird thing when you drive up. You are going to see a lot of Porsche cars. When we drive up, I can say for sure that we are "TOURISTS".
There is plenty of parking next to the Grizzy Cafe and surrounding areas. Parking can get tight, but this isn't a busy city. You can park in the surrounding areas and take a beautiful stroll with the mountains in the background. When you walk up, you'll notice either two things: The Bear on the roof or the two bench swings in front of the cafe. I think it should be a ritual for anyone to sit on the swings before going into Grizzly Cafe. Its sitting on a nice porch as you would be sitting in either the front or front of your dream home.
When you walk in, most likely, you would be wondering if you entered the wrong place. You didn't! You just entered a very cool gift shop. At our visit, we saw a lot of Halloween items. This may not be the Disney shop, but you can call it the Wrightwood Shop. A lot of cool stuff, but you'll see a lot of grizzly bear items as well. This could be the "OFFICIAL" gift shop of Wrightwood. Well, Grizzly Cafe is probably the official restaurant anyways.
Our friend was already seated was eager to eat while my girlfriend and I were looking around the gift shop. You have three choices of where to eat. You can eat at the counter, main dining area, or the patio area. With all the motorcycles and Porsche vehicles driving up, we decided to eat in. Its cool, country type setting as if you were eating at your own dream cabin with State Highway 22 just right at your view. I believe my girlfriend saw a caribou or a moose head above the counter area. From what I read from other Yelpers, the caribou head moves. Glad, it didn't during our visit since we enjoyed our food.
I don't remember who our waitress was. Sorry! When she came along, we ordered our drinks right away. A glass of water, a Strawberry Lemonade ($3.89), and my girlfriend ordered the cutest drink, a glass of Apple Juice ($3.49). Our friend was so hungry, her Hispanic/Spanish blood wanted something that satisfied her hunger. So, when she opened the menu, she ordered Chorizo and rice. She didn't care what kind of rice as long she ate it. My girlfriend ordered Belgian Waffles ($6.99) with hash browns ($2.49). I ordered a similar item like my girlfriend did. I ordered the Belgian Waffle Combo. With the Belgian Waffle Combo, I had, of course, Belgian Waffles, bacon, and poached eggs. Each plate came with a slice of watermelon.
Our wait for food with a busy restaurant on a weekend was about 10 minutes. Food was served very hot, fresh, and ready to eat. I can't describe how my friends meal went since I didn't taste it. However, my girlfriend and I did have the Belgian Waffles. I am not sure what kind of batter they used, but its just like Eggos. It was sweet and crunchy on the outside and soft, fluffy in the inside. Add the syrup and butter, you got yourself a great breakfast. Since I had my eggs poached, it was made exactly like how I wanted. I just dipped the bacon in with the egg to add a hearty breakfast. As I mentioned, each dish comes with a slice of watermelon. I didn't try my girlfriends hash brown and now I wish I did **tears**
Our friend paid for the breakfast. Thank you! We had a delightful breakfast at a location that feels like we travel thousands of miles away from Los Angeles. Except the rows of Porsche vehicles that made it seem like Beverly Hills or more closely to Aspen, CO. This is one restaurant/cafe that exemplifies the town of Wrightwood. I wouldn't be surprised if Grizzly Cafe hosts many meetings for its community. Heck, I love this place and I was only here for a couple of hours. If you do come through the city of Wrightwood, stop by the Grizzly Cafe, you won't be disappointed!
