Cute

When I found this place on Yelp I got excited as I travel a lot and I like the local mom and pop places. When I walked in the place looked clean and, like the other downtown Laurel businesses, had a very homie feel. Unfortunately, it is counter order but they do deliver your food to your table. I would suggest they switch to full service as they only have ~11 tables and it would add a nice touch to the experience. That said all the staff, with whom I interacted, were very nice. They did stop by to fill up my coffee so there is that. I hate to do this but the bad part of the experience was the food. My sandwich was cooked perfectly and the fruit was fresh and ripe. However, the sandwich overall was a huge disappointment. It was only a single egg and I think there were two slices of bacon but I'm not sure. The bread overpowered the sandwich and made it fall into the not satisfying realm. I would NEVER order that sandwich again. They did recommend a more complete breakfast with eggs, pancakes and sides but, at the time, I thought that sounded like way too much! I regret not ordering it. If I make it back to Laurel I will give them another shot and probably order the other meal. I do hope they consider shifting to a full service business, after all they are half way there.

When you walk in the door you order from the counter, find a seat, & they will bring it to your table. Big hot biscuits from the oven , crispy bacon, eggs, & blueberry pancakes. All so good! A must stop when your in town. Enjoy!

The cutest little restaurant ever!! Located in historic downtown Laurel- it's everything you want in a little southern hole in the wall. By far the best grits I have ever had!! I'm still thinking about them:). Great service and great food!!

Grits & Some is a smallish breakfast joint with biggish flavor. This is a fast casual place--order at the counter, and staff will deliver it to your table. We were greeted immediately and got our food quickly. Also, a server refilled my coffee twice (which I didn't expect in a fast casual restaurant). My granola with fruit and yogurt was a back-up option to the sausage casserole which looked amazing and tasted that way, too, according to the diner at a neighboring table who apparently snapped up the last piece. But I nibbled on Hubby's side of sweet bacon--divine!--so I didn't suffer. Hubby said the biscuit was the best he's ever had (and he's 60, with a Southern grandmother so he certainly doesn't lack experience). He had sausage gravy with his biscuits--excellent choice--but I'd recommend those biscuits on the side of anything else on the menu. Also a plus: bathroom was big and clean.

The menu is small but the Magnolia breakfast hits all the right spots! A friendly employee took our order & didn't take long before we were enjoying our breakfasts. Grits are their specialty and they have bragging rights on how good they are!

Great breakfast spot in Laurel, MS. Very friendly staff, clean facilities and good selection of breakfast options. First time eating grits and found them to be smooth, creamy and very tasty. Extremely pleased with the recommendation and experience. Laurel is a great getaway vacation spot with plenty of history, shopping and eats!

Magnolia breakfast. Never expected cheesy grits to be done this way. Fabulous bacon. Eggs over easy. Coulda had a biscuit.

Holy smokes this was good food! I got the Magnolia breakfast to try s little bit of everything. Cheesy grits weren't, but everything else was superb. You gotta get bacon - and they sell the rub for it! Fabulous service, really clean, and quick.

Great breakfast spot. Order at the counter and in a flash, a fabulous breakfast will be delivered to your table! We both had the Magnolia special at the bottom of the menu..... Super friendly staff and good coffee! Add this restaurant to your breakfast plans...

This was such a unexpected gem. It's such a cozy place. Staff and service were excellent. Homemade biscuits and gravy to die for. Grits were so creamy they tasted like my Granny made them. Go, I promise you'll love it. Check out the very cute town of Laurel. You'll love it.

Creamy grits with bacon.

Creamy buttery tasty grits with plenty of crispy bacon on top. The owner Lisa was very friendly and we'll be making this a regular brunch stop in the future.

The food was awesome and staff were wonderful. The best grits I have ever had and I am a grit girl!

Ask the Community - Grits And Some

Is there any outdoor seating where we could bring a small dog?

Not when we were there in June. It's just a tiny place that serves the best grits I've ever had. A great place. The biscuits are beyond good. Sorry, it's not doggie approved, but definitely, people aproved.

There was some kind of street fair going on, so we parked in the back and walked in from the back door. It was a little confusing, but we four a very sweet server who showed us where to sit. I think her name was Lincoln and she was very sweet. The outdoor area was a little messy, but no big deal. The food was okay. I had a French burger that was a little flat tasting. My husband had the French dip. Again, it was just okay. Cocktails were pretty good. Based on that alone I probably wouldn't go back, but we were limited on choices due to having our dog with us. Here's where it took a turn. We went to our car and there was a very nasty note telling us, "The next time you park here you will be towed." It directed us to go inside to get someone to move their car which was blocking us in. We didn't see any other parking lot and there weren't any no parking signs. I went inside and found our waitress who gave the note to a woman sitting at the bar with papers spread out in front of her. I assume she was the manager or owner. She didn't say a word and sent the waitress to move her car. All of the sudden our sweet server wasn't so sweet. Come to find out, the parking lot entrance was on the side where the street fair was and we couldn't see it. I think that is a pretty nasty way to treat customers. I don't recommend this place at all.

Yelp led us to The Loft and thank goodness we got there about 10 minutes before open because there was already a line down the sidewalk. We got in line and were seated right when the doors opened for dinner. I enjoyed the interior of the restaurant. It had a rustic vibe and a man playing the guitar and singing. The music was great but wished he was a little bit louder. The service was good and were in and out within about 1 hour and 15 minutes for dinner. I started with a cocktail - Stormy Laurel. I'm a suckered for any drink with elderflower and it was light and refreshing. The food was delicious! The house side salad was huge and the croutons were so good. I like that they provided plenty of salad dressing. I ordered the fried shrimp dinner with the loaded potato casserole. The shrimp were massive, there were so many, and they were seasoned well and breaded just the right amount. The potato casserole was yummy and had a slight kick which I appreciated. We also ordered the bread pudding for dessert. I liked the white chocolate chips throughout. Come here for a solid meal! I loved the food and atmosphere. I thought there were plenty of options on the menu and everything was priced well.

The lighting is a bit dim for our old eyes but otherwise it has the feel of a pub. We loved that. Our server was very nice and helpful. We ordered the bacon cheddar fries. The fries are like a cottage fries that are then cut into strips. Perfect fry on them. The bacon could have been crispier but great flavor and a good ranch. I had the KPauls pasta. We all enjoyed it. Pasta cooked perfectly al dente. If you love a saucy pasta this isn't for you. It is nice and creamy but not swimming in it. Big plump shrimp that tasted great. Also has chunks of chicken breast and sliced sausage. Uncle Jim got the red beans and rice. Great flavor but barely warm. The catfish is a thicker cut and battered in a coarsely ground corn meal. Aunt Robin had the shrimp and grits. Those were the star of the show. So creamy and incredible flavor. Very generous amount of nice sized shrimp. Mike had the Keg Stand burger. He requested the sauce on the side. It's definitely a unique flavor. Nice soft bun. The meat was grossly over cooked but would have been tasty had it not been so dry. The onion rings that came with the burger were soggy. Overall, enjoyed it. We know what to get next time. Shrimp and grits and KPauls pasta!!
