Non stuffy, classic American breakfast. "Just like your grandma made" is right. Didn't need to add extra butter to anything, and the service was friendly. The cook seemed a little touchy but hey it's before 9 on a Sunday so I won't hold it to her. We were served by an older woman and a younger woman and the younger woman seemed like she was only friendly to locals while the older woman was kind to everyone. Really happy these folks were open on Sunday. The sweet and spicy bacon isn't spicy, in case you're worried! The biscuits were amazing so make sure to add on at least one extra biscuit. My pic makes the food look small but the magnolia masterpiece was plenty enough for 2 people. They didn't have any of the Don't Tell Mama which was a bummer but I'm not sure I could have managed eating more! read more

When I found this place on Yelp I got excited as I travel a lot and I like the local mom and pop places. When I walked in the place looked clean and, like the other downtown Laurel businesses, had a very homie feel. Unfortunately, it is counter order but they do deliver your food to your table. I would suggest they switch to full service as they only have ~11 tables and it would add a nice touch to the experience. That said all the staff, with whom I interacted, were very nice. They did stop by to fill up my coffee so there is that. I hate to do this but the bad part of the experience was the food. My sandwich was cooked perfectly and the fruit was fresh and ripe. However, the sandwich overall was a huge disappointment. It was only a single egg and I think there were two slices of bacon but I'm not sure. The bread overpowered the sandwich and made it fall into the not satisfying realm. I would NEVER order that sandwich again. They did recommend a more complete breakfast with eggs, pancakes and sides but, at the time, I thought that sounded like way too much! I regret not ordering it. If I make it back to Laurel I will give them another shot and probably order the other meal. I do hope they consider shifting to a full service business, after all they are half way there. read more

Grits & Some is a smallish breakfast joint with biggish flavor. This is a fast casual place--order at the counter, and staff will deliver it to your table. We were greeted immediately and got our food quickly. Also, a server refilled my coffee twice (which I didn't expect in a fast casual restaurant). My granola with fruit and yogurt was a back-up option to the sausage casserole which looked amazing and tasted that way, too, according to the diner at a neighboring table who apparently snapped up the last piece. But I nibbled on Hubby's side of sweet bacon--divine!--so I didn't suffer. Hubby said the biscuit was the best he's ever had (and he's 60, with a Southern grandmother so he certainly doesn't lack experience). He had sausage gravy with his biscuits--excellent choice--but I'd recommend those biscuits on the side of anything else on the menu. Also a plus: bathroom was big and clean. read more
