We tried Midtowner for breakfast and one word to describe the experience is YUM! Their menu has a good variety, basic breakfast items but cooked at best. My favorite dish out of all we tried was their pancake! Cooked perfectly, fluffy, and it warmed my heart (I love a good pancake!) The chicken fried steak was also a good dish to order if you're wanting a hearty breakfast. Service was friendly and quick, ambiance is clean. Loved all the memorabilia displayed related to southern miss - this is a definitely on my list to go back to.

Stopped for breakfast. They have a diverse menu, including a section for those who want something that is low fat, high and protein. My waitress was amazing. Friendly and professional. I opted for an egg white turkey omelette with fruit cup. It was delicious Very nice not to simply get a bowl of cantaloupe or melon; but rather, assorted berries and pineapple. Coffee cup never got below 1/2 a cup. Very welcoming vibe. Another Yelper said it felt like a community diner. I can see that but it's more. Airy and bright, with a small town feel. So many pictures on the walls - I love that. As a single diner, I was given the opportunity to sit anywhere rather than being relegated to the counter. That is always nice. I've already recommended The Midtowner to 3 locals.

We came here on a Sunday morning around 10am. There is plenty of parking so you don't have to worry about that. The restaurant was packed but a few tables had just left so we were seated immediately in the front corner. I ordered the hardy breakfast, which consisted of eggs, hash browns, 2 sausage patties, and 2 pancakes. The pancakes were the star of the meal. They must add sugar to the pancake batter because you don't need syrup on those pancakes. They were delicious. The eggs were stone cold. Like ice. I'm not sure how long that plate was sitting in the window before it was brought to the table, but I probably should've asked for fresh eggs but instead I just didn't eat them. The sausage patties retained heat better and were pretty good. The hash browns were fine as well. This meal did the job. My partner had the Midtowner which consisted of country fried steak, over easy eggs, and a hash brown. I tried the country fried steak and it was good so I would recommend that.

This was our first time here. The atmosphere was lively and full of nostalgic pictures. Someone was even there giving an interview with the local news channel. Nick was our server and he took great care of us. We ordered the number one (classic breakfast) and it was delicious! The bacon was so good we ordered more on the side. The eggs were fluffy and the biscuit was good by itself. We will definitely be back!

The food was amazing! I showed up a few minutes to 11 am and thoroughly enjoyed a chicken fried steak with gravy, two fried eggs and hash browns. I am never disappointed with menu options. Sitting at the restaurant bar area it's first come, first serve in case you are in a hurry. The place brings you back in time and is a very nice quaint place.

This place always delivers. Well, I don't know if they deliver as we always eat in. It was a Thursday morning about 730am so it was pretty empty - no wait to be seated and the food came out very quickly. Coffee is very good here, it's a local and they brew it well here. Our server, James, did a great job taking orders and keeping our coffees topped off. Everyone's food was very good. I work hard to stay in shape and keep my cholesterol at a healthy level but damn if the siren song of this place doesn't pull me in every time I'm in Hattiesburg.

So nice to dine with Nick today at Midtowner! You can tell this is an upscale brunch/lunch type establishment. Thanks for your service. We are a party of 5, traveling from Louisiana. Everybody hungry! And, the menu is amazing. Bae got a vegetable plate with greens, Mac and cheese, black eyed peas and fried okra. He says Mac and cheese is trash. Mommy and Dee shared breakfast. They got pancakes, grits, ham, sausage and eggs. Ma raved about the pancakes. Dee raved about the ham. Jen got the hamburger steak, squash and Lima beans with a cat head biscuit. Jen raved about the biscuit. I got the club sandwich with fries. Fries were terrible. But, When I say, that club sandwich, DELICIOUS! And, Nick recommended the honey mustard! This stuff here is Good! Yall already know, when Im happy and passing thru Hattiesburg, Mississippi, I shall return.

I am a visitor to Hattiesburg and this was my first time at this establishment. I was brought here by my friend. The host was great. Greeted us immediately and got us sat. Our server was overall good, it just took some time between the steps of service. The place did get busier after we were sat, so I assume that was a large part of the delay at times. I loved the ambiance of the place, you could see the history on the walls and the vibe was right. Clean and well lit, but not terribly noisy even with it being busy. Now, to the food. The catfish with grits was sublime. Great crispy texture to the fish, creamy grits, well seasoned dish with a hint of heat. I give it a 9.5/10. I'm still thinking about this dish and we went there for breakfast yesterday. The sweet potato pancake was also excellent. Texture was a smidgen too soft for me and I wish I got a bit more sweet potato flavor but this pancake is still an 8.5/10 for me. I had to force myself to stop eating it because I was full, but it tasted so good I wanted to keep going! The cinnamon glaze is the perfect complement to this dish. I would fly down from RI just to eat here again. Fantastic gem in the Hub City!

Chicken & Waffle

Best chicken & waffles I've ever had! Can't wait to come back & taste more! Great service, great ambience... all around the best breakfast in the area, by far.

Breakfast is okay but the blue plate lunches lack flavor. Seems like they need a new food supplier!

On the bartender's recommendation, I ordered the Catfish Plaquemine, and it was phenomenal. Perfectly prepared catfish with a sauce that really brought the dish together. The staff is attentive without hovering, professional without feeling scripted, and they genuinely make you feel welcome. The ambience hits that sweet spot -- energetic but still comfortable, making it an easy place to settle in and enjoy your meal. Now let's talk about the real headline act: the cheese grits. Absolutely out of this world. Creamy, rich, perfectly seasoned and the pepper Jack cheese added a wonderful touch-- they weren't a side dish, they were the star of the show. If they sold those by the gallon, I'd consider questionable life decisions. I ordered the shrimp po'boy. The shrimp themselves? Fantastic. Fresh, fried just right, and piled generously. The toppings and that homemade remoulade (or whatever magic sauce they're whipping up back there) were bright and flavorful. The only hiccup: the bread. The ends were toasted with the intensity of a NASA heat shield. I needed jaw strength training to get through the first few bites. Once you navigated past that crunchy barricade though, it was smooth sailing. I finished with the deep dish apple pie à la mode. I'm not sure if it was made in-house, outsourced, or assembled by a dessert engineer in a lab somewhere -- but I don't really care. It worked. Warm apples, flaky crust, walnuts, brown sugar, and cold ice cream melting into the whole situation... excellent flavor combo. Bonus points for a strong bourbon selection at prices that don't require a small loan application. That alone will get me back in the door. Four stars because of the bread battle, but I'd absolutely come back -- especially for those grits and a good pour of bourbon.

04/22/26 This visit…read moredid not disappoint. We live in Florida and first visited Vicious Biscuit (the original location) quite a few years ago while on vacation. They opened one in Florida and when we visited we were just not as impressed and decided we probably wouldn't go back unless it was the original one. While on vacation again, we noticed Vicious Biscuit on the map and decided to give it another try. I'm so glad we did because the food was spot on and delicious. I got the Vicious and my husband got the Flame Thrower. The biscuits are buttery, flaky, and flavorful. Both of ours came with a cheddar jalapeño biscuit and they were exactly as we had remembered when we visited the OG Vicious Biscuit. The chicken, the cowboy candy, and gravy on mine were perfect. The chicken, cowboy candy, and candied bacon on my husband's were equally excellent. Great job on making us wanting to visit again! Vicious Biscuit is once again a stop we'll be looking for on our next road trip!
