I was encouraged by my son to try the Newport Diner. I love diners for their speed and for the people who dine there, and the staff. So we went. I almost passed it, because from the outside it looks nothing like I was expecting. It looks like a house and blends in with neighboring homes. Love that. Inside the decor is simple. Comfy. The sunnyside eggs where overdone and quite browned on the bottom yet the yolk was not runny and the eggs were still undercooked on top. The corned beef hash, which we were told was stellar and television personality Guy Fierii loved, was abysmal. There were only tiny shreds of corned beef, not well seasoned, and mostly undercooked potatoes, celery, and onion. Even ketchup didn't help. Prices were very high for the serving size and quality.the strata was $18.00. Only on street parking, cramped quarters, high prices and less than stellar food. While by water, there is no seating overlooking the water. You can go outside to view. The service was excellent and the retro establishmnet is unique, but based on this experience, we would neither recommend nor return. Only on street parking.

For our meals we ordered a table pancake (meaning, a pancake for sharing). It was fluffy and perfectly good - nice and hot. They have "syrup" and it reminded me of being a kid and having Log Cabin syrup. I didn't ask, but it didn't taste like pure maple syrup. I ordered the corned beef hash skillet with a grilled english muffin. It was perfectly cooked and it was delicious. It tasted like canned corned beef hash and I was not mad about it. I truly wanted comfort food and this hit. My friend had the S.O.S. (gravy with beef and pork) AKA Sh*t on a Shingle. It looked soooo good and she stated the biscuit and gravy and meat were good. We took our leftovers home, which will tell you, the portions were decent, the food was delicious and no delicious food would be left behind.
