D'Ellie's is a breakfast and lunch cafe at the base of Sugarbush, right up the stairs from the skier drop off point / parking lot, halfway between the Super Quad lift and the base lodge. Awesome: - They have well priced children's meals, which made our 10-year-old really happy. She enjoyed the grilled cheese option, made on her choice of bread (white). She said it lacked the frico of her favorite preps, but on the upside, it was not overly cheesy by her tastes. The meal comes with a small bag of chips, a brownie (evidently house made and awesome per the kiddo), a Capri Sun, and a bubble wand. The bubble wand was enjoyed for days and days after. - D'Ellie's Cobb salad was the best version of this salad (and probably best salad overall) that we tried in the Sugarloaf area, and the most fairly priced to boot. (Cf. the wimpy, low brow, overpriced version we had at the Bag.) It was generously sized and made with fresh, excellent ingredients. Good: - Focaccia based sandwiches were made with fresh focaccia, possibly baked in-house. They weren't as well filled as what our contingent is accustomed to at home, but I actually don't think the ratio of bread to filling would be too far from the norm in Italy. Overall, our contingent enjoyed -- in huge part b/c of the high quality bread. - The cafe packages food in waxed paper and waxed cardboard (not recyclable, but potentially compostable, I think). And they provide reusable mugs for drinking coffee in house. I really like that they're trying to be lower waste. So-so: - The "Italian" subs were not to the tastes of those who ordered them. I think regional differences might've been a contributing factor. D'Ellie's version used a very soft, non-toasted hot dog bun-like bread, not homemade as far as we could tell; pickles; sweet peppers; olives; salad oil; and your protein of choice, in our case roast beef and salami. Primary consumers said they found the meat proportions skimpy. - It can take a while to get your order even when the cafe doesn't seem too busy. I could see people working their tails off in the kitchen, so this is less of a complaint than a know-before-you-go. - There are a few tables and seats in-house, mostly pub-height tables with stools. It's pleasantly low key and casual. If space gets tight, take it to the dining spaces in the base lodge. We are spoiled ingrates when it comes to food. As such, we were not all that excited by dining options in the area. But for on-mountain fare that's more fairly priced and of even or higher quality than other options we found in the vicinity, D'Ellie's is a good bet. read more

Just outside the main village at Sugarloaf, D'Ellies is the place to go for those in the know at Sugarloaf. A few tables in the cozy inside and an outside seating area. Order at the counter and listen for your name. Eat in or take out. Great coffee and breakfast pastry options, plus full breakfast - the 1/2 order French toast was plenty, and delicious. Lunch options from pizzas to sandwiches. I had the soup of the day and a "bread end", which was great chowder and a generous end slice of homemade bread. Expect to pay resort prices! read more

AMAZING SANDWICHES! I had the Turkey club and it was a big sandwich and fresh ingredients, good food before a hike! Their cornbread treats and Blueberry smoothies are amazing too! I wouldn't buy soups though I wasn't a fan of the creamy vegetable soup, the rest of the food was amazing. read more

Sandwich was delicious on homemade bread but very pricy. Paid $32+ for 2 sandwiches and a small bag of chips. No drinks.

Got B.E.L.T sandwich here before my daughter's golf tournament. The reason was that there were no other restaurants in this area deep inside of mountain. Anyway, food was good and my daughter loved it. Bacon, egg, lettuce, and tomato. Cant go wrong with those. read more

We stayed @ Sugarloaf for one night while the boys played some golf, and found this cute place for a quick lunch. Not many options @ the mountain this time of year, but no problem because D'Ellies was exactly what we were looking for! So much deliciousness on the menu- something for everyone. The sandwiches are all homemade right there in front of you with the freshest ingredients and the bread, freshly made. We were both eyeing huge sandwiches but were worried they would be too big- but the lovely lady behind the counter said we could always order a half sandwich so we're like heck yes! My veggie half sandwich was possibly the best I've ever had- filled with homemade hummus, lettuce, tomato, bean sprouts on thickly sliced homemade white bread- the best! And the ladies that worked there were both super fast & friendly! Hubby & I went back the next morning before we hit the road. He got a breakfast sandwich and I got a freshly made toasted croissant with homemade jam and again- delicious and fresh with fast and friendly service!! Great job guys! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

D'ellies is a great spot to snag a quick bite for lunch while hitting the slopes at the 'loaf. I usually go for the half sandwich (a whole sandwich is very generous and can easily be shared) on their deliciously fantastic anadama bread. They feature a variety of tasty sandwich toppings (I usually go with sprouts, carrots, cukes) and their pesto mayo is great. Don't forget to grab a tasty homemade treat for dessert. Beware: On weekends it can get pretty packed, so it's best to opt for an early or late lunch. And if you have cash, you can hop in the express line. I wouldn't recommend eating in as it's a pretty small space, so get your lunch to go and eat in the lodge. In the spring, I personally like to devour my sandwich on the "beach" while enjoying the sunshine read more

The Yardsale will keep you skiing all day. Sugarloaf is a skiers mountain (boarders too unfortunately;): friendly, unpretentious with fantastic terrain, D'Ellies like the mountain is: friendly, unpretentious with great food with large portions. Nestled away near the Sugarloaf Superquad is a small deli serving some delicious sandwiches, paninis, and soups. Order your food and wait for your name to be called out at the counter adjacent to the cashier. If you're a bit hungry, I'd recommend getting the 12" D'ellies Super Italian Hero ($10.75 + tax = $11.50), which has ham, salami, swiss, provolone and optional toppings (tomatoes, pickles, red onion, green pepper, greek olives, hot spread, seasoned oil and red wine vinegar). It's a little pricey, but let's consider you're ordering food on the resort that ain't half bad. The bread was soft, and all ingredients fresh. The greek olives added a nice saltiness, while the minced hot pepper spread added some heat and extra flavor. It worked out to be a great sandwich, and can be split between two people if you're not too hungry. D'ellies is a healthy alternative from all the fried foods and burgers. It's definitely worth checking out. read more

Love the sandwiches here. They have great breakfast sandwiches, and for lunch, I love the Reuben and their Italians (they do Maine Italians). I also like their anadema sandwich bread, and their baked desserts are yummy too, like the raspberry shortbread. You can order at the window for take-out but on a weekend, you may want to order in advance and go pick it up since they can be pretty busy. Literally no better place to fill up after killing it on the slopes for 4 or 5 hours or to grab a great cup of Carrabassett joe and ridiculously good breakfast sandwich before you hit the slopes. Tip: call in and order your food from the lift before you run before lunch, and the sandwich will be ready when you get down there. The wait can be pretty long some times--why wait in line when you can squeeze a run in? While a little on the pricey side, it's well worth the couple extra bucks to get great homemade bread, delicious sauces, and sandwiches filled to the brim with fresh veggies. Just enough to hold you over until happy hour. Make sure to fit D'ellies into your trip to Sugarloaf when you're there. Coming from a local who goes there once a week, it NEVER gets old! read more
