    Pork belly

Grisette delivered a fantastic meal from top to bottom. Service was bright, sunny, and genuinely welcoming from everyone we met. The setting is lovely: a beautiful spot in Church Hill near Chimborazo Park, right across from Alewife, with the kind of neighborhood charm that makes you want to linger and order another cocktail. What impressed me most was how precisely the food evoked the French countryside. Every dish felt like something I might order in a small village like Tournon-sur-Rhône: perfectly cooked and unfussy, focused on ingredient quality and balance rather than flourish. The rockfish arrived with a seasonal mix of corn, tomato, okra, and green beans that tasted like summer on a plate. A melon, cucumber, ricotta and berry salad was clean and fragrant. Profiteroles and a peach cake wrapped things up with the right lightness. Even the pork belly dish, which can so easily tip into heaviness elsewhere, was handled with restraint and care. In many ways this was not only the best French meal I've had in Richmond, but an archetypal rustic French meal executed perfectly. Aces all around.

Drinks from the bar were perfect! If you like martinis they even have blue cheese stuffed olives. Great wines on the wine list, but I encourage you to ask for their unlisted options. I learned that they have a partnership with a small winery that only sales to Grisette. I only wished they made it available to try by the glass. Service was excellent! Ambiance is relaxed and intimate, but it's still great for a large group gathering. It's a warm and inviting place.

For someone who loves Beaucoup and Jardin as much as I do, you would think I would've made it a point before now to have visited Grisette. Alas, I missed out for too long. I visited with my mom for a few-days belated birthday dinner, and the experience was leaps and bounds better than the restaurant I visited out of town on my actual birthday. Grisette IS a place to visit on celebratory occasions! We were seated at the two-top behind the bar. It is a small space with lots of foot traffic, but we were told that table had less traffic than the other two-top away from the bar. My mom mentioned it was my birthday and the manager brought over two glasses of complimentary cava - such a nice touch. We also each ordered different gin cocktails - she had one with dill and I had one with egg whites. They were tasty. To start, we requested a cheese plate. My mom wanted the gouda and I asked our server to pick two of the others that weren't blue cheese. He selected the dirtlover and challerhocker, which was a Swiss cheese. I was OBSESSED with the challerhocker - legit soooo good. He mentioned that one is his favorite, too. For my meal, I ordered the fettucini. My mom ordered the duck confit, but it was very tough so she sent it back and also ordered the fettucini, which she enjoyed much more. It came with a dusting of Aleppo pepper on it. I can handle pepper in very small portions otherwise it makes me sick, so I'd recommend they add it to the menu description for dietary restrictions. I still enjoyed it though and it did give the pasta a nice little kick (and I didn't get sick so we're good!). For dessert, I couldn't help but order the profiteroles and my mom had their mango cake. Both were incredibly good. All in all, I really enjoyed myself and will definitely return in the future.

irst of all, the atmosphere here is absolutely phenomenal! The vibe is warm and inviting, making it perfect for a cozy night out. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful; They gave great recommendations that really elevated our experience. My steak and wine were both delicious, but the real standout was the dessert. We had the profiteroles, and I'm honestly still dreaming about them! We also tried a refreshing tomato, cantaloupe, and cucumber salad that was bursting with flavor; Such a unique and tasty combo. This spot is ideal for a date night. While the indoor space is more intimate and not suited for large groups, they do have a lovely outdoor patio where you can relax and enjoy your meal. I can't wait to come back!

Grisette is such a treat. We made reservations for Thursday night. When I first got there I was thinking there was no need for the reservation but it got packed fairly quickly. Our waiter was great with the suggestions and his patience. I let him pick the items for the smorgasbord. I was definitely the more adventurous eater of our party and was more than satisfied with the options. The highlight of our starters was the tomato and melon salad. So fresh, light and refreshing with the sweetness of the cantaloupe and the peaches. Definitely a must try while they have it! The steak frites were amazing! The fries - crispy and so good! The steak - no better description than beefy. You know you're eating a good steak when it's simple and the real flavors come out. For dessert we split the profiteroles. I will be back just for those and a glass of wine. Overall the experimenter at Grisette was nothing short of special. From the second you walk in the staff makes everything easy. It's the perfect spot for any occasion - celebration, birthday, anniversary, solo date and even after a bad day. Everything there feels special.

Had the best wine here but I feel that the food is overrated. The steak is a bit tough and fries were nubs. I'd recommend chez foushee steak frites instead. The rigatoni was good but not great. The croquette was a bit too fishy for my taste.

After an event across the street, saw this restaurant with great reviews and decided to try it for myself. Interior was modern and classy yet the atmosphere remained casual. It was a beautiful evening and we sat outside. They have a great wine selection. Steak frites was very flavorful and tender. Pork shank with broccolini, rutabaga sauce was good. It had contrasting textures from bread crumbs and the sauce to the tender meat. Profiteroles for dessert was awesome. Service was great. Overall, I'd give it 4.75 out of 5 - definitely more than a 4 but not a 5.

To get a reservation at this place on a weekend evening is tough! Everything fills up pretty fast because it is a very in-demand place. We showed up right at opening time on a Saturday and we were able to sit at the bar luckily. The wait staff was pretty attentive and friendly. You could tell this place was very classy and they were trying to keep everything good with their service and their good food and the overall ambiance. My friends both got one of the chicken dinners but they probably should have shared it because the chicken portions were very big! We also shared one of the bread and cheese plates which also was just so good with so many different options and you get to choose on some of them. I also had the anchovies over bread just because I knew I was going to get really full and it was excellent. With all the appetizers, I knew I needed a small dinner so I'm really glad I picked another appetizer for my main entree. All the food here was amazing and everything smelled so good. It's expensive but you're definitely getting what you pay for! Very delicious.

Finally made it to Grisette! Soooo worth the wait. This was one of their specials -- a butter cookie with strawberry sauce and a custard-y garnish.

We went to Grisette during an almost fall like evening breaking up the enormous heat wave we've been having. We were able to sit outside and it was beautiful and great neighborhood vibe. Our waiter asked us if we wanted to do a surprise menu (not the word he used but I can't remember) basically a chefs choice. We said absolutely! We started with the shishitos with peaches with ricotta and a pistachio crunch. It was lovely. Next came three enormous beef bone marrow. Tough one for me. I regularly receive bone marrow biopsies as I am recovering from Leukemia. NO WAY for the chef or staff to know that, but I just couldn't stomach it. My husband ate it and it was okay. It needed bread or something to sop it up as it was gelatinous and greasy. Next was a wonderful melon salad and the steak and frites with an added foie gras on top. It was seared to perfection with a wonderful crust and the foie gras was a decadent touch. My husband wasn't a fan, but I loved it. The biggest complaint was the length of time between courses. It took a very long time between courses then at the end the waiter asked us to move tables because another party needed ours. I mean WTF? They took forever bringing our meal and then kicking us out of our table. Uhhh. No thank you. We got the check and that was that. Overall it was good but not great. We kept looking across the street, kind of wishing we were there.

Really liked this place! I'm in Richmond often for work, and we stumbled upon this place on google. We stopped in on a Wednesday and it was very busy! Our waiter was very enthusiastic and took good care of us. The menu is constantly rotating so you'll always be able to try something new. They had extensive charcuterie options and lots of wines to choose from. I ordered the duck confit and it was delicious! This restaurant is an intimate setting. There's patio seating outside and bar seating inside as well as some tables. It's not huge and you can feel tucked away pretty much anywhere. Would recommend for dates or a night out with a friend or two. Think it would be hard to have a bigger group here. Which is okay! They do what they do really well :)

Grisette is a wonderful French option with amazing wines and a small, seasonally rotating menu! We went at one of their last seatings; the space is cozy and inviting. Our server was phenomenal and so knowledgeable about the menu: he really made the evening! We started with the smorgasbord mixed charcuterie and it was perfectly assembled. Three meats and three cheeses were selected for us: cured ham, thin-shaved beef pastrami, and a snout-to-tail head cheese, and a soft, firm, and blue cheese. The spread came with warm bread, onion and cucumber pickles, three kinds of mustard, honey, and raisins. For dinner, we got steak frites and chicken Provençal. Both were well presented (I love the mix-match china plates) and so well composed! The steak was to temp and the fries were super fresh. The chicken and accompanying veggies tasted like fall! Grisette is perfect place to spend date night, or any night!

good spot for a date night! The menu changes weekly btw, but the food was overall good. We ordered the bread + anchovies + oil for appetizer. I ordered the coq au vin which was overall well-made but the portion is a bit small. The steak frites was good as well (ordered medium rare), but I think the quality of the meat could have been better with the price point. Server was also attentive. Overall a good restaurant for a date night!

Richmond, VA hidden gem alert!…read more If you're ever in Richmond, you HAVE to check out Chez Foushee Restaurant & Bar! The moment you walk inside, you feel like you've been transported to a cozy little French restaurant. The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful--warm, charming, and romantic with the perfect cozy vibes. I went by myself this time, and I can honestly say I would love to come back for a date night. The acoustic music playing in the background matched the ambiance perfectly and made the whole experience feel even more special. The food was amazing! My server recommended most of the things I ordered, and every single dish was a 10/10. The service, the flavors, the atmosphere--it all came together beautifully. Definitely adding this to my list of places I'd happily visit again. If you're looking for a cute date spot or a memorable dining experience in Richmond, this is the place.

Come with low expectations, come casual, and you'll have a better time. Or, for casual french food, go to Can Can, for fancy date night, try L'opossum. Restaurant was cramped, tables waaay too close for a nice restaurant, and way too small, we struggled to fit plates on our 2-top. (At $50/plate, struggle shouldn't be happening) For the first time in my life I had to ask the servers to please pre-bus the table, our plates sat until we asked they be removed. Biggest complaint with food and drinks was lack of balance. For example we ordered the baked Camembert, which arrived on a cold plate (as did all our warm dishes), and gelatinized quickly. There was a full wheel of cheese and barely a tablespoon of jam, so flavors were great for the first few bites, then blah. Rinse and repeat this with every dish we ordered. I ordered a cocktail and it was very strong, unbalanced, so I asked for a glass of wine. Our server was spread thin and checked on us rarely. I ordered the filet and found it lacked seasonal or French inspiration, frankly it was overwhelmingly bland and tough for a filet (cooked med rare). My husband's entree was the risotto, which was the best bite of meal, shrimp was fine - however, the portion was very small compared to my entree. Like, you would think his portion was an appetizer, compared to my plate. He cleaned his plate, helped me with my plate and my plate had food when we left. The space also had really poor ventilation. The hostess wore too much perfume, and the scent would linger distractingly at the table every time she walked by. Another patron was sat near us and his cologne dominated the palate, we skipped desert. This isn't an issue at any other restaurant I've dined in recently, so I have to assume the HVAC needs a fresh filter or something. When they reset a table next to us, they fanned the cloth AT us, flicking any dust directly on our plates and food. Linens weren't steamed, very wrinkly tables for the price point and branding as an upscale spot. Don't plan to return and would not recommend.
