A great little gem! Gringos is a fun, exciting and tiny spot located in Gastown! They offer a smaller menu but there's something that everyone can eat! Gringos offers plant based options, gluten free options, and dairy free options! When we visited we tried a variety of things from their chips and dip, to nachos, to tacos, burritos and bowls! The prices are decent, and food is amazing! If you like fish tacos I HIGHLY recommend theirs! Hands down was the best I have ever had eating out! Their pop is also $3, and bottomless. This is a super fun spot to check out, and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a casual food and drinks. This location is quiet loud so I wouldn't recommend it to someone hoping for a quiet dinner or drinks, nor would I recommend it to families or large parties. Parties over 6 people is 50% gratuity. First of all, the food is always terrible. People only go there to drink. And I was hungry and desperate. Could have had a $200 bill. Pyat Pree greeted us at our table, rather terribly- telling us to leave and see Cody because it was first come first serve. There was no line. Voldemort was visibly upset and talked to the table next to us about "the belligerent blink 182 crowd". The only thing that is good here is their cheap tequila, and it's a stop in stop out place. Tucked in a small, quiet alleyway of the rowdy area of Gastown is a hipster taco place. I came over for a midnight snack from the shady Chinatown neighborhood where my airbnb was, hungry from a cross-country flight. This taco bar is a place where all the popular cool kids hang out, and I looked extremely out of a place as a lone traveler still in my travel clothes. The gringos in North Vancouver has the worst service I have ever experienced. Didn't seat us the staff was all just standing around. After 30 mins of waiting for drinks they said it will be a bit longer. No water put on the table. Extremely unprofessional and unorganized. No apology. Straight up rude and your staff will not make your restaurant last in lolo. Save yourself the headache and walk yourself across the street to browns. You get serviced with a smile there. read more

Went here last night with a friend! It's truly a hole in the wall, in the back alley behind the Lamplighter. First come first serve, we were originally in the cramped benches in the front, but we asked to be moved to a back corner and were accommodated. They clearly got caught by inflation, because the menu prices are a little higher than they started out. It believe the online menu said $2 tacos and $3 beer with combo prices of $6 for 3 tacos, $8 for 6 tacos. Now each taco is $3 and the beer is $3.75. Most of their single drinks are around $8 and their doubles are $10-12. The food was yummy and drinks were great! It's a really cool, unique spot and I'd love to come back with friends. I'd like to think I'm easy to please... give me some music to dance to, yummy tacos, and tequila, I'm a happy lady. So, if I'm looking for all the above, Gringo is one of the spots on my short list. On top of that the food is great (and budget-friendly), the bartenders are hilarious, the drinks are strong, and the ambiance is fun. Are you getting authentic tacos? No. But you don't need authenticity to make this spot great. Food-wise, here's what I love the most: their Austin (saucy brisket + fried onions), Encino (slowed pulled chicken, ranch, salsa and crispy toppings) and Mugroso (chili veggies, corn, and zucchini) tacos, their queso dip (I'd eat this out of a jar if I could), their chili rice bowl, and the quesadilla. Tucked away in Blood Alley, this place can be a bit hard to find and parking can be a pain, but once you get into the alleyway, follow the sound of laughter and fun music, and you won't be able to miss it. It's a small space with only a handful of seats, but in this case, size doesn't matter. You'll be elbow to elbow with your neighbour, but who cares. Make a new friend over tacos and tequila! I can't wait to go back once we get the green light to leave our homes, grab a seat on one of their colourful bar stools, and order myself a few tequila shots and $2 tacos. This little hole in the wall was pretty good. It's in a back alley, I would not have expected it to be here. I think the owner was our server. He was very friendly and polite. Asked our names and remembered it, that kind of service isn't common and its refreshing. My kids didn't like the rice and beans because it had some Mexican seasoning on it but I thought it was decent, it was a little dry. The burritos we had were enormous. Modern tacos are all sort of similar, but good,.. so what I'm looking for is a good vibe and this place has it. Nice people, fun, and 80s themed. Beer specials too and the look of the place and odd location make me love it. This place looks out into blood alley and opens up the outer wall. I appreciate a business that can make a weird location work though i worry about what the development of the property across the street will do to them,.. right now it is a parking lot but it will be a building staring them in the face if I understand the development plan correctly. read more

The only thing I don't like about this place is that I live over 2000 miles away. This restaurant is a (literally) hidden gem in Vancouver. It's hidden away in an alley and never would have found it if my friends did not recommend it. The restaurant is definitely my style--tiny with lots of kitsch on the walls. The table tops are homages to video games of the 80s. The staff was very friendly. Our server learned our names and referred to us by name while we were there. The dips and tacos were delicious. Came to Gringo for a casual late dinner with four friends on our first night visiting Vancouver from Seattle. The restaurant was full when we arrived, but we only had to wait 5 minutes or so for a table. The place is quite small, but very festive and fun. (It is located in an alley... although it's not too terribly hard to find). Note: You need TWO forms of ID to order a drink. Wait what? Thankfully a credit card and driver's license worked but one of my friends only had a driver's license so she didn't get to order any adult beverages. Sad. For drinks I got the White Girl W@$ted cocktail (vodka, lemonade, soda). A single is $7. And let me tell you, that glass was tiny! Cute but tiny. And there is no way I was going to get wasted off of one of those, it was very weak (but tasty). I would probably have to drink 10 to actually get drunk, not even kidding. So maybe stick to beer, unless you enjoy weak drinks. For food I ordered three vegetarian tacos--mugroso--topped with avocado cream for a total of $8.50. The mugroso tacos (warm soft corn tortillas) are filled with veggie bean chili, veggies, rice, roasted corn, zucchini and tomatillo salsa. They were okay, not bad. Definitely edible. They were strikingly similar to my mom's vegetarian chili which is not amazing. Sorry mom. Some hot sauce helped the situation out a little bit. There was still room in my stomach so I ordered chips and those were pretty good... warm and lightly salted... multiple colors of chips too! I do love my chips. Service was okay, our waiter could have been a littleee friendlier/nicer but oh well. I'd come back, probably for some late night snackage after drinking because they are open to 1 or 2 am which is nice. P.S. One of my friends loved this place. And it can get a little bit humid with the windows closed. But even with that, I think it is a fantastic restaurant even though it's not upscale. A fun throwback industrial looking bar, Gringo is tucked away in a random alley waiting for guests to come. This place is pretty small, the occupancy is only 28 people so you have to come early or wait awhile for a seat. We were told it would only be 10 mins but it was probably over double the amount of time. We let a couple go ahead of us because they only had two spots available and we had three people and we couldn't hold the table. Ends up that couple ending up buying us drinks in the end, super nice of them! Although this place is really cramped, it has its own charm. It had a good lighting and a nice chill vibe going on. We ordered nachos and tacos which were actually pretty small, I was expecting a little more from a place that's so highly reviewed. The tacos however were really good so I give them that. We also ordered the Pink Flamingo bucket which I would highly recommend for groups to share. The service is really good and the severs personally introduced themselves to us and asked for our names, which is a nice little touch in this day and age. Overall, you can't get better tacos and drinks elsewhere. Just make sure you go early and get a seat or you might left hanging and not get to try this fun place. "Where should we go for dinner tonight, The Keg?" Jas asked as we were winding down the working day. "The Keg?!" I exclaimed, shaking my head...Jas hates trying new things. "Lets go for Tacos, I found a cool little place online I want to try". Jas reluctantly agreed and off we went. The tacos here were delicious, I think they might be the best tacos I've had since my Mexico trip. I tried each one and I think the classic beef came up on top. Jas had the burrito which was MASSIVE for a 'regular" size and he confirmed it was also delicious. The location is cool, down a little alley and I really like the style and vibe of the place - the staff were awesome too. Oh! and the Margaritas are also good! Luckily YELP guided me to the Gringo located in the oddly named Bloody Alley. It's a tiny shack but big enough to house maybe 30 patrons. I order two tacos - a fish and mushroom taco. I let the server talk me into getting a 3rd taco with his "one taco is $2 75 but you can get 3 for $8" Hmmm if my math is correct I'll be saving a whopping 25 cents!!! I can finally go on that dream trip I've been saving up for now :) Any way, the tacos were delicious but nothing compared to street tacos in Cali esp for the size vs price... totally not worth $2.75. You know you found a place you want to frequent, often, unfortunately I live in Los Angeles, so my two visits had to suffice. Love Mexican food and they really delivered a fun version of that. The drinks were original fun to try and usually I will only get beer, so they really impressed me. The food was great, good prices on everything, everything you want in a restaurant. I visited three different taco shops while in Vancouver over the course of a weekend, and while Gingo wasn't by any means bad, I loved Taqueria Pinche Taco Shop so much that I couldn't possibly qualify Gringo as anything other than A-OK. Points of comparison: La Taqueria Pinche Taco Shop: 5 Stars Chancho Tortilleria: 3 Stars Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? You've got real fast and friendly folks here at Gringo. The server who doubled as the bartender and seemed to maybe be the owner introduced himself to us right away, and after ordering our tacos came out quick. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? The tacos at Gringo, even the specialty tacos, are $3.00 a pop, which is reasonable for Vancouver. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I opted for a special short rib taco and a carne asada taco. Both were good, but in my mind the meats were bested by what I had at Pinche, the tortillas were bested by what I had at Chancho, and the salsas were just okay. Single Star. My wife and I flew into Vancouver late one evening earlier this summer and we arrive late enough that it became quite difficult to find any place open where we could eat. Luckily google guided us to this cute little bar that offers pretty good food. Neither of us are big drinkers but we even had a cocktail that was quite nice. I'm here to write about the food though. We had a small place of Nachos followed by a spread of five different tacos. I have to say the food was really quite nice. The staff are really very friendly as well which was a lot of fun as we chatted with them throughout our time there. One of my absolute favorite places to go for delicious tacos. Although the venue is small, its heart and spirit are gigantic, with friendly and kind staff members who are happy to accommodate customers. The miniature tacos are mind-blowing, able to punch you in the face with flavor while filling you up quickly despite their small size. The drinks are a ton of fun and absolutely delicious to boot. And to top it all off, the theme of the decorations are a blast from the past, a clear homage to the bold neon colors of the late eighties and early nineties. Despite being garish, it's a perfect accompaniment to the feel of the place, giving its patrons the nostalgia of the tail end of the 20th century while indulging them with excellent food and drinks. My girlfriend and I had the chuck, encino, and austin tacos with a locally brewed lager. They were all tasty and on par with something we would get at home in California. We went in the morning and had to pay some random place to park which sucked but the food was worth it. There are 5 toppings you can put on the tacos for 50cents each. Overall service, food and vibe of the place is awesome. Tucked in the middle of Blood Alley, this neon flamingo joint serves some cheap local beers and tacos. The hubs and I happen to be in Gastown on a Saturday afternoon and decided to do some pub hopping. We were greeted immediately and were seated right away. Since we are hopping, we thought we will just try their tacos and one lager ($3.75). We ordered 6 tacos for $15 at 3:20 and they are ready at 3:27pm. Tacos are loaded with toppings and are super delicious! The place has room for 8 at the bar, 6 by the window and 4 high tables with high lounge seats (can seat about 14 max). Pretty small and cozy. We can see this place super crowded by evening as it is starting to pick up by 3:30pm. Service is super fast and friendly. Overall, we will likely come back again. read more

Sweet little spot in Vancouver. I'd definitely say this is a must with a small group of friends, buuuut I do have one word of advice for those ordering a burrito. The location is meant for about 20-25 max, so be prepared to wait if you go on a busier night. We just wanted something quick to go, so went in and ordered a tri tip burrito. It was loaded with delicious meat, cabbage and other spices that I didn't quite get to see, but I will tell you all, it was delicious!!! The one suggestion I have is to ask for them to put the sour cream and salsa INSIDE the burrito, not on the side (the side they give you is incredibly small so ask for extra). With out it, it does get a little dry. If you prefer a drier burrito than by all means keep it how it comes, but personally sour cream is a must for me, so that was the only reason I give this spot 4/5. read more

I use to LOVE this place and would go there every lunch. Recently I went back just to reminisce on their amazing brisket quesadillas which I always get but this time I couldn't even find the brisket :( they cut down their portion/quality quite a bit. Maybe it's a change of ownership? The quesadilla use to be filled with loads of brisket and cheese would be oozing out but now the it's basically half empty. I tried it another time for tacos because it was the only place opened at 12 am and get it was still disappointing :( I don't have any pics because it was just sad looking and not worth a photo. Love the vibe here. Imagine if a few college buddies opened up a small taco joint, serving up delicious tacos, secret brewskis and doing it all with personal charm - you've got Gringo. Don't let the sketchy location deter you. Yes, you're gonna have to trench through a shady alley to get here, but it's worth it. We ordered 6 tacos for $15 (one of each kind) and a 7th bonus taco for $2.75 plus extra bacon and avocado cream for .50c each. The winners for me were the brisket, pork and fish (in that order). Let me preface this review by saying all other Mexican food I've had in Vancouver was subpar. I mean, what can you expect from a city that isn't populated by many Latin@s. BUT THIS PLACE does Mexican RIGHT. I came here for a quick bite to eat on New Years Eve, and oh man, I was so blown away by their tacos! I got the austin taco... and dude... that thing was packed with flavor. The brisket was super juicy and tender, the inclusion of fried onions gave a nice variation in texture, and whatever else was going on in the marinade make the entire taco a flavor bomb. I live in LA, so I'm spoiled by delicious, cheap tacos from local taco trucks, and in comparison to what I'm used to, Gingro's doing it right. This is review for the food strictly. I got the following tacos; Austin (brisket), Wilbur (pork butt), and Jerk (jackfruit). I really enjoyed the Austin tacos with the flavoring. As for the others, I have had better versions of those so it came up sub par for me. I recommend adding the side sauce to your order of tacos like the avocado cream.
