We have driven past many times, should have done it one more time. Crowded, waited 39 minutes. wife and I had 8 oz sirloin, 1/2 " that never looked like a sirloin, and more like a little flank steak. Chewy with a bit of sinew, fries, tasty, but so salty hard to eat. Bitter spinach, no butter or lemon, good rolls no butter and a strange bitter martini up for sale @ $6.00 special., fair service, but not good for $72 with tip. Might go back, but probably not. The restaurant was immaculate. The food was over the top! Ribs fell off the bone, the skirt steak with chimichuri sauce was delicious. The sides also were delish especially the mashed potatoes from scratch and the sautéed spinach. The desert called chocolate decadence was heaven. A flourless torte pilled high with chocolate mousse and raspberry sauce. Will gladly go back for more. The ingredients used are fresh and the presentation also was nice. Great new find and close to Gulf Gate. Tired of the same old CHAIN food give this place a try. Stopped in and was pleasantly surprised with the menu - they have a great Happy Hour specials. Our visit was enhanced with excellent service by Amanda. Her knowledge of menu and recommendations was a plus!!! Had the flatbread chicken gorgonzola and the steak egg rolls. Presentation excellent and the drinks good quality. We were not rushed - wanted to take our time to visit and felt NO pressure. The best filet mignon I have ever had and the port wine sauce was delicious. Not only was the food incredible, including the homemade key lime pie, but the service was incredible. Such a warm and welcoming environment. The waitress explained all the food was brought in fresh everyday. You can really tell the chef puts a lot of love into creating his meals. It's a must try. I had been several times to the location in Clearwater and enjoyed every time. Walked in around 5:20 on a Saturday night . The long bar was full, plenty of open tables in the bar area and the rest of the place was empty. The hostess was nice as I said hi to her first and I told her there were two of us. She asked if I had reservations ? (never made them in Clearwater before ) and I said no, ... but the bar are would be fine , oh no, that's booked with reservations ???? really ? bar seating is usually always open seating anywhere you go.... anyway was sat at a table alllllll the way in the back , on an end , by a back door , in an empty restaurant ... ok. So... waiter Thomas was excellent , could not find the bacon on my 6.00 iceberg lettuce wedge, we split a pulled pork sandwhich which was very good. Over all the food was good , the service was good , but the reservation issue , no open seating at the bar area makes me wonder if just stopping in may be an issue .... read more

Our experience was not good. The service was poor(not the waiter's fault;too busy, not enough kitchen staff, I suspect) my rice was cold X2 my chicken was tough and sinewy. Our tablemate's salmon arrived uncooked and still wasn't properly cooked on the second try. The place was noisy and crowded, not conducive to a pleasant meal. I have been a few times to this restaurant since they opened, and I have always been very pleased I thought the chicken wings were the best in town, and the filet egg rolls were great. Now I came back after the reopening, and I was very disappointed, the chicken wings were O.K. not like before, the Filet egg roll was awful, it looked old and over fried. Pork chop Marsala good, sweet potato fries, the best. Happy Hour the best too.We had an excellent server Nicholas who besides been all over the place, took very good care of us, well ask for him next time, yes we'll be back, and I hope food is much better,specially with a smaller menu. I met a friend for drinks and "bar bites" on a Saturday afternoon, we sat in the bar area and we both enjoyed our time at Grillsmith - Sarasota very much. The food was good, not outstanding, but for the price and quantity, we were very happy. My friend especially enjoyed her Thai flatbread. I ordered the fried sammy, which was a very good egg sandwich with apple-smoked bacon. That I received two eggs was a plus. I would have enjoyed a runny yolk or two, but the eggs were not overcooked. Our server (Kelly) was amazing. She was personable, attentive, and non-obtrusive. We were also checked on by the smiling and friendly manager, and that impressed me. It is a bit far afield for my area of Sarasota and I am not too fond of that major intersection of Stickney Point and 41, but I recommend you give this place a try! read more

Our first trip to Grillsmith while on vacation in Sarasota was a good experience. Were here the same day as Todd B who left a review also. We arrived at 2pm and they weren't very busy. Our server, Alex, was great and the place was fairly quiet. I had the ribs, au gratin potatoes, and blackened fries. Ribs had a sweet glaze, which I liked, and very tender. Didn't get that much out of the blackened fries. Will try something different next time. My wife had the salmon and said it was very good. Sorry about the picture of partially eaten salmon. She wouldn't wait for me to take the photo! We had a buy one get one coupon which cut $19.90 from our bill. I thought the soda for $3 was high compared to other places though. First time at Grillsmith and not disappointed. Starter soups were excellent, had the seasonal squash harvest soup and it was great. Great atmosphere and really nice decor. Hubby had fresh salmon which he said was excellent which was complimented well with a rice pilaf, the salmon serving was on the small side for the price. I had the lemon feta chicken, it was really good and flavorfull, with smashed cauliflower (like mashed potatoes). Our friends had the ribeye and he enjoyed it, said it was cooked well with good flavor, and my girlfriend had the Carbonara, she said it was good but hers was better. Great 7 day a week happy hour and small plate soecial offerings as well. Will be returning. Great service too. read more

It is how a business handles the situation that reveals their true colors Last night, while my dinner of pork tenderloin was excellent, my friend's Amberjack was over cooked and a big disappointment since that is her favorite fish. Our first experience at Grill Smith won't be our last! We came in for their happy hour appetizer specials, which, by the way can be ordered anywhere in the restaurant, not just at the bar. The steak egg rolls were our favorite by far. Use the over generous serving of horseradish dipping sauce! The blackened chicken wings were some of the best we've ever had. The cheese fondue for the pub pretzels is amazing. The toppings on the flat breads were just a little sparse but still delicious. Skip the shrimp, it is a little portion. The remodel of this restaurant is totally awesome. Loved the modern art, all of the TVs and the really classy colors. There was no management presence at all but our hostess and server were both very good. Our server knew the menu and was super speedy and very friendly. I am so glad this restaurant has opened near us. I like this friendly atmosphere and nice menu. We enjoyed it and were seated quickly even though the parking lot was packed. Our only suggestion is they need more help. Our lovely waitress did her best to keep us up to date on the drinks-they were a good half an hour in the making- and dinner. The bartender was overwhelmed. But the drink was great when we got it and our dinner was lovely. I had the delicious filet and my date had the dish with the peanut sauce. Apparently there was a mixup with our take out order - but I gotta say the server saved the day with her sincere apologies and free drinks delivered to us in the car. The kitchen worked fast to replace our order. I enjoyed Grillsmith-Sarasota. I have never been to Grillsmith before and thought the options and menu were very good and a full bar with many drink options. The server Michael was great and engaged with the table. Why the 3.... Well my steak which was ordered rare to medium-rare came out well done. They remade it (while everyone else ate about 15 minutes) which happens... but the bill comes and I will post a picture -- the suggested tip was wrong by a lot (if I were not good at math or did not check I would have been ripped off). I asked about it and they did explain - that to remake the steak (which was ordered correctly but made wrong) they had to put it in as a new order so the tip calculated on the total with 2--30.00 steaks as well as our drinks, and other meal. The waiter was nice and did apologize but the Manager who brought it out did not even say sorry we messed up (he said can you cut it and see if you like it now).... It is a Grill House.... you would expect they know how to make a rare to med rare steak (not well done). I would go back and try more things but was disappointed in how they do business. As I thought my parents would not have thought to do the math and would have tipped around 40%. I find that unethical when you are in a market of seniors. read more

The food was amazing! I had the Chicken Marsala, loved it! But our waiter Danny, was rude and unprofessional. When we asked questions about the menu, he acted like we were two idiots sitting in front of him. When our dinner was over he took my credit card, mixed it up with a different table! My card was charged for their meals. After waiting for approx 25-20 mins for them to fix the problem, Danny came back, told me he would give me $11, that was charged on my card for the other table, because they couldn't take the charge off of my card. Finally Devon the acting manager for the night showed up, said he corrected the charge on my card, and gave us a $50 gift card, which was great, however I am moving and won't be using the card, so I gave it to my friend for her to use. I told her that when she goes back in to make sure she doesn't get Danny! Anyway, as we were leaving, Danny passed us and instead of saying I'm sorry about the mix up, and have good night, he once again looked at us like we were the problem. I don't quite know how to rate Grillsmith, because the food was great, if I weren't moving I would go back, except for the fact that I was very disappointed how the entire situation was handled.
