We have been here about a half dozen or more times over the past couple of months. The first visit had a few issues (avocado toast was held under a heat lamp for too long. The manager saw it, apologized and comped it). On another visit the manager on duty stopped by every table to make sure everyone was happy. As they got busier that hasn't happened, but then the staff seems to have found their groove and things are working smoother. Between us, friends we have gone with, and others we have recommended this place to, we have tried most things on the menu and not one person has not like their order. I still miss the burgers at the Square 1 that was previously in this building, but these are pretty good. The service has ranged from good to great. The people we have gone there with have all chosen to go back with other friends. There are a lot of choices to eat in SRQ, so that says something. The prices are great, especially the happy hour specials. Perfect size when you are not that hungry. read more

Our waitress was so knowledgeable and helpful and definitely went out of her way to make us have a great experience. My dinner was excellent I had the shrimp /crab burger and my friends both dinner were excellent but my husbands was super disappointing he had the flank steak. It was under cooked and super chewy. Went there Friday evening for happy hour. Grabbed one of two high top tables left in the bar area. The place was hopping, there was never a shortage of people coming thru the door. Service. What's that? Finally got to put in our order with a very nice waiter. We waited 15 minutes before we got our drinks. Our food came out, actually some very nice choices on the happy hour menu. We opted for a very nice flatbread and a shrimp small plate. The flatbread was a little dry but very tasty. Service. What's that? We need another drink. Oh the wait, to get it ordered and then to actually get the drinks. Had to be another 15 minutes or more while we watched people sitting at the bar get a drink in a few minutes. We might go back, never on a Friday. Asked the waiter is it always this crowded? "Yes." Then they need more help! I previously wrote a not so flattering review but I would like to revise that review. My husband and I recently returned to Grillsmith after a not so pleasant experience. Management reached out to us which is so rare these days. It was much appreciated. Our second experience could not have been better. The food was perfect the second time. Food was okay. The mashed potatoes were sour. At first we thought they were supposed to be but once we asked the waitress we learned it was not. The lemon sauce on the chicken was good, but the chicken was dry. The sautéed spinach was cold. Husband ordered a salad and enjoyed it. The breadsticks were tasty. Service was pretty bad though. This was our second trip to Grillsmith ( Night of tuesday dec 3)the first trip was amazing the service was awesome the food was incredible and even the management seems like they knew what they were doing, but tonight we went we sat in a booth closest to where the food comes out and we could see inside at the young man giving the food to the servers without gloves on, including a few things falling off the plate that he picked up with his bare hands and slip back on her plate for serving to us, it was a big change from the last time we went when man of the food window and he was wearing gloves and seemed to know what he was doing I'm very disappointed this time around and slightly grossed out not to mention eating fries off the food in the window. Came here about a month ago, absolutely loved the food, I had lemon chicken and my Husband had the pasta carbonara. Unfortunately I can't give it the 5 stars I want to give it because we were sitting at a high top and me and my husband over heard one of the managers coming to the hostess counter and talk bad about other employees and servers. It made us feel extremely awkward and looked very unprofessional. Terrible experience last night. We are locals and frequent often. We sat at the bar, ordered drinks and appetizers. The fruit type flies were all over our drinks!!!!! What an evening! Steak ordered to be medium rare came to the table as medium well. Sent back and correct steak came. One meal, shrimp and pasta came cold and was sent back to be heated. Supposedly, "new" dish made up and delivered hot. Then, final straw was that the bill was overcharged by $20 as we were changed for BOTH STEAKS! The suggested tips were not calculated correctly. I wanted to give a 20% tip on the (finally corrected) bill of $45. The suggested 20% was over $12. Isn't 20% of 45 closer to 9? I guess this must be some version of "new math"! This was during the so-called "soft" opening. Hey, Grillsmith, there are LOTS of restaurants in Sarasota. Better get your act together. By the way, management should have done something to have us leave with a smile on our faces. We have had poor service or mistakes before. Everything is handmade on site, so this is a craft steakhouse. The cocktail menu is extensive and delicious! Four of us went to Sarasota Grillsmith last night and were extremely pleased with the food. We arrived for our 6:15 reservation and were seated immediately, my friend and I ordered the crab cake appetizer which was very good, I order the prime rib and was very pleased with the steak, for sides I had mashed potatoes and the jalapeño Mac and chees... it was delicious, my girlfriend ordered the Mediterranean shrimp and salmon and it was also very tasty. What a great experience at this beautiful new restaurant in South Sarasota. We came early in a Saturday evening - around 5:45 and didn't have a wait but within 15 minutes the place was fully seated. I absolutely love this place! Every single food item that I have gotten here has always been delicious!! I recommend this place to anyone. They have a wonderful happy hour menu that also includes alcohol and food items. My favorite drink is there coconut painkiller. A must try! They do not lack on the alcohol in any drink. Everything is made from scratch, including the salad dressings. I love their house salad, ribs, and my most favorite side is the jalapeño mac & cheese. It was a little loud inside but the restaurant was full. Personnel were extremely professional, polite and accommodating. We had a delightful anniversary dinner at Grillsmith. Could not have had a better time. Ate at the bar and the bartender's service was amazing. Also met the manager who was behind the bar, also excellent. When they learned it was our anniversary, the gave us a complimentary slice of chocolate cake that was awesome. They even wrote out happy anniversary on the plate with the raspberry sauce--such a nice touch. We both ordered the Rib Eye steak they were cooked to perfection. I had the jalapeño Mac and Cheese side which tasted so good; don't be put off by the jalapeño, it was not super hot, just the right amount of spice. Squash and zucchini were the chef's vegetables and were cooked to perfection. And their Smith's margarita was perfect for my taste. Thank you to the staff and chef for a great anniversary dinner.
