Our second hiring of Mike's crew led by Jorge. This was a 5 year wait on completion for us due to owning a new business and the slow down in 2020. I had a goal: To bring the eye DOWN so as to reflect on what we had, because I've always had a bigger view. We had three meetings over the years. Phone calls. And too many texts. Mike was patient. I was particular and apologized ahead of time to him. Finally. I called and professes, "Mike- I'm not backing out. Set your calendar. Here's my deposit. Don't let me back out again." This is the reality of being a business owner when our employees come first. Same as Mike. Personal things come second. Take care of your business by taking care of your employees. Two builds with Mike, almost five years apart. We finally all pulled it off. It's all about our new 4 distinct patios. Cooler travertine because who wants to wear shoes if you're relaxing! Easy care. Options built around the sun and the moon. I tracked both for over a year to make sure our patio worked all year round to my wants and needs. I made multiple revisions over the years. So did my husband - he got the grill and fridge installed. Patio 1: A shaded patio looking North. Took advantage of the house shading extra past the Gas Firepit. Firepit in Summer gets covered to become a sweet low table. Patio 2: All under the open sky! It's waiting for a magnificent plant! We're selling our property 5/24...so the new owners can choose their own plant. There are two extra outlets at the pony wall for a tall outdoor lamp or lighting, or set up a tiki bar and blend away for a special party. Patio 3: Phinney's Patio is where my pups and I enjoyed chilly morning coffees....and the AZ sunsets later. I designed a sun dial into the flooring so that around 9:15am in the Fall the sun lines up along the corner of the house, along travertine/turf and over the planter. Phinney was an Empath dog and served people well in counseling sessions and a brain rehab center. I wanted to honor his special spot. Patio 4: Is made from crushed and compacted quarter minus rock. It's pretty awesome. I imagined a long wood table lit up with soft lights above and candles, flowers and linens. The plan was for my husband to grill and be able to chat with guests. Our West side is rocked in tiny rocks and has a gate. It can hold dogs during a house party and was going to be prepped to install planters for veggies and cut flowers. Mike's team installed our regular pavers in front to extend our driveway, built steps from the sidewalk up to our house, and extended the pavers past our East gate for parking a smaller boat or vehicle. He doesn't overpromise - he is beyond most contractors and us like my husband (also a contractor) - his team always shows up, works a long day, arrives quietly and leaves quietly. Start to finish our backyard took 8 days in Feb 2024. Same was true for our front yard hardscape he completed in 2019 - always on top of the job. He might call and ask to begin a day sooner so I was excited when that happened for us! Halfway thru we happened to see another home. I let Mike know we were selling. I asked Mike to make a few changes so the new owners could do their own thing and make it more theirs. For me to finish it was actually heartbreaking. Everytime we check the yard before a house showing we tear up. As much as we love our new bigger yard....For a small yard Mike's team took my sketches and my dream all the way - it "checks all the boxes" as open house viewers commented. My husband backed off and even let Jorge run the gas pipe for the Firepit, even though my husband can do that. My husband felt his time was valuable and preferred Jorge to DO IT ALL. So they did. Irrigation. A new hose Bibb. Electrical. I wanted a contemporary patio that matched the genre of our home...but with special touches. Desert Scape's Team delivered. On time. Within budget. If we were staying I'd overplant and add outdoor decor. For now the new Rosemary, Jasmine and fire bells add scent, texture and a burst of color. A backdrop of climbers and cooling down the wall with some ocotillo wood ribs or something else would be lovely. That's TBD by the new owners. read more

I shopped around for 3 months for someone to lay pavers on my back porch and I had 5 different companies give me estimates. I was impressed with Mike when he came out to survey the project. He recommend a paver brand I had not heard of but was substantially less expensive then Belgard. In addition he gave me a reality check on the tile I was considering. His estimate was fair and I felt good about Mike's credibility so I moved forward. His team arrived on time and job was completed on schedule. After speaking to a few companies, I was impressed with Mike's professionalism and hired his company to remove existing brick patios and replace the patios and surrounding area around the pool with Travertine tile, replace an existing stand alone grill that was in my outdoor kitchen with a built in unit, and add two small slump block walls thta are approximately 2 feet high. Additionally, he put in a french drain on the side yard to eliminate standing water issues on the patios when it rains. I was totally impressed with the talent on the four man crew that performed these tasks with perfection and speed. This total job took 7.3 working days to complete and I pinch myself when I look out at this gorgeous resort looking backyard. They went above my expectations and I am a perfectionist. This is the best landscape company I have ever worked with! They do what they say they're going do and the follow up has been extraordinary. Mike, the owner, initially came out to give me an estimate and spent over an hour with me, giving me so many different options (for materials, colors, designs, etc.) for how to install landscaping in my backyard (and we ended up having some money left over to do a little bit in the front as well :-). They were a little more expensive than some of the other companies I got estimates from, but it was so worth it. They ended up starting ahead of schedule and were finished exactly when he said they would be. My backyard turned out so much nicer than I was expecting and Mike saw the project through from the beginning to the end. He did a thorough walk thru with me and even threw in a couple little things at no additional charge. It was so nice to work with a company that actually does what they say they're going to do, and WHEN they say they're going to! I've used Griffin's Desert Scapes on 3 separate occasions over the past 5 years. The first time i had a bbq grill and pavers installed. The 2nd time, i had a putting green put in. The third time I had grass removed and put in artificial turf, lighting and some more pavers. Each time it's been professionally designed, installed, and the follow up was top notch. Quality work, great service, you get an emailed quote up front quote detailing all the work and costs, and it gets done on time. He even prepared the HOA document to get approval beforehand. We have used Griffin's Desert Scapes for two fairly large projects in the past four years, and we are very pleased with the results. The first project was renovating our backyard-- taking previously unusable space (gravel and a hideous fountain) and turning it into a beautiful travertine deck with a fire pit. They also did some lighting which highlighted the deck, a pathway and our citrus trees, and this turned out phenomenal. We really enjoy our time out there now. Friends and family members have commented that our backyard looks like a resort. A year or so later, we had Mike and his team come back and remove an old, crumbling flagstone walkway in the front yard and replace it with pavers. Again, we had them do some landscape lighting, and now we have one of the nicest front yards in our neighborhood. They also regraded our side yard, which had drainage issues-- we have no problems now during heavy downpours. We are considering further renovation to the front yard, and we will definitely use Griffin's Desert Scapes again. Here are the reasons why: 1) They started the job on time and finished on schedule, both times. 2) Mike stuck to his original estimate, even when the first job turned out to be more of a hassle than originally anticipated. 3) They are relatively reasonable. We only want to use licensed professionals, and we are willing to pay for excellent quality. After taking estimates from a few different contractors, we realized that Mike was the only one who offered numerous options and variations to fit our budget. (He will let you know how much each portion of the job costs, and what can be added or eliminated, customizing the job to fit your needs and your budget.) 4) They back up their work. They did return to fix something that was under warranty. All in all, we had a very positive experience with this company. I highly recommend them. read more

We selected Griffins to resurface existing pool deck and patio with pavers. Additionally we upgraded a connecting walkway between the patio and pool so that everything matched. The work took alittle longer than expected due to a high number of cuts required by the curved pool deck. We feel that you get what you pay for so while we could have found less expensive options we doubt that the end result would come close to what Griffins produced. We used Griffin's Desert Scapes for a paver project. The owner, Mike is related to the other landscaper, Unique Landscapes By Griffin, who only does the large landscaping jobs. If you request an estimate from Unique Landscapes and it doesn't exceed a certain dollar amount, they will refer you to Griffin's Desert Scapes. Our initial contact with the owner Mike was very positive. He responds quickly and has very competitive prices. He will also promise you the world when it comes time to responding to issues with the actual work. The reality is that once he has a deposit in hand, his whole personality and demeanor changes. If you point out something that needs to be corrected he drags his feet and then will make a half hearted attempt to resolve the problem. Things his crew did; turned off our drip system and left without telling us, left all the landscape lights filthy, left very little sand between a large number of pavers, etc. He even went so far as to insult my wife and I when we asked him to correct a problem with the job he did. Maybe by insulting us he figured we wouldn't call him back when we needed something fixed that wasn't done properly the first time. Overall, the work his crew did is acceptable but the pain you endure dealing with him isn't worth the end result. Find someone else to do your work. He shouldn't be dealing with customers. He has no human relation skills. I gave him one star because that is the least you can give. read more
