Ref: Griffin Heating. I've had a recent experience with Griffin Heating. After using them for several years for the annual servicing of our HVAC system, I called them to fix an issue I was having with our gas fireplace. They inspected the fireplace and determined it needed a new gas valve. They sent me a quote for $1,070.00 which seemed very high for the work involved. I asked them to send a breakdown of their quote (parts and labor). They responded saying the Part would be $341.00 and the Labor would be $729.00. When I responded that the Labor cost seemed extremely high for what I knew could not be more than a couple of hours Labor, they replied that "This is the cost for us to cover our labor and overhead for this repair. We welcome you to contact someone else if you want to try to find it cheaper". (How gracious of them). As I wasn't interested in "covering their overhead", I decided to follow their suggestion and shopped around. I found the gas valve on-line for $192.00 (a new OEM part) and found a local service company to install it for $235.00 (2 hours of Labor). The fireplace is working perfectly, and we now have a new vendor for our future HVAC needs. In today's economy it PAY$ to shop around. read more

After getting three quotes, I selected Griffin to install a new heat pump and air handler for my recently purchased home. Their initial proposal was very competitive, but was based on a cheaper, less efficient line of equipment. We reworked the proposal with better equipment and the resulting proposal still looked good, plus their lead time for equipment delivery was much shorter than their competitors, so I gave the authorization to proceed. The installation was a little rough. After running normally for a couple hours, the heat pump inexplicably shut down. Griffin ended up having to return to our house several times, and eventually replacing the heat pump with a new unit before everything was working correctly. They surmise the problems could have been due to extra corrosion/contamination in the refrigerant lines. Could also have been due to a defect in the first heat pump (another possibility). Despite the installation problems, I give Griffin five stars, because they took care of us. Every contractor knows what to do when things go right, but the good ones know what to do when things go wrong. I place Griffin in this latter category. These installation problems were things that could have happened regardless of the contractor. The bottom line is I'm now in a house with a good heat pump system that was price competitive and delivered much sooner than the competition. And the work was done by a contractor who didn't leave us hanging when the going got tough. read more

Griffin is located off HWY 97 in Bend and they always have funny little phrases when I drive by. When the time came to service our furnace, I gave them a call. Mistake. Initial reception was great, quoted me a competitive price and was actually able to fit me in same day, literally like 20min later. After the service was complete, the technician charged us double what I was quoted over the phone. When I spoke to someone the following day to inquire why I was charged so much, I was told the price included "drive time, to and from the job." The tech was here in 20 min, couldn't have been more than 10 min away, the job took 30-40min and yet we were charged for 1.5 hours. What a joke. So I get charged for the techs drive to my house and then wherever else he goes when he leaves my house? Companies can do business however they want but to quote one price over the phone and charge another after services are rendered isn't good business. Had I known about their "drive time charges" I would have hired someone else. Had they offered to refund me the difference to make things right, it would be an entirely different story. However, the girl I spoke with on the phone must be new to customer service because she had no intention of satisfying the situation and keeping a customer. She even insisted that "everyone charges drive time" yet the first 3 companies I called after the fact didn't charge drive time and actually offered a better deal. Even when I told her that I guess I'd have to find someone else she seemed ok with it and told me to have a nice day and hung up. With all the options for basic furnace and A/C maintenance here Central Oregon, you'd think this company would put more emphasis on customer service, being competitive and staying consistent. These guys started out strong but failed miserably. Lucky me I have lots of other companies to choose from the next time I need my system serviced. Seems the cute little phrases get the majority of their attention and not the customers. read more

Called them for servicing my heater and air conditioner. Left a message after hours and they called as soon as they opened the following morning and scheduled service for that day. They came at the scheduled time, were efficient and even helped me with programming my thermostat. Would definitely recommend them. read more

I used this company to install 7 HVAC units for my office building and to service them. When asked for a diagram or blueprints of how the ductwork was installed they could not provide them. I contacted the company several times to ask for them. The owner finally called me back after several message were left with the front office. He said he would provide them and never did. They do not have good follow through! read more
