We used Gridley Construction Company for the second time, to finish the remodeling of our home in San Jose. They are a terrific design and build company, and we are very happy with the work they did. We hired them in 2020 to complete our kitchen and family room remodel, and were very pleased with their whole process and especially the skilled people they have working for them. We decided to do the rest of our home, and were thrilled they were able to help us again. We expanded closets, moved a wall, took out an old chimney, redid the floors and lighting, put in 5 new windows, and had the interior and exterior repainted. From design to build, they were very professional and easy to work with. It feels like having a construction company in the family. They were respectful and knowledgeable, and every time something unexpected came up, they gave us good advice about what we needed to do and what was optional. Our designer Lisa was very patient with us, as we worked out all the details before construction began. Jason was great as our project manager, giving us good advice when we ran across termite damage and always making sure things were done to our satisfaction. And our electrician, Robin, was amazing - so knowledgeable and made it her goal every day she worked that we were happy with the lighting and fans she installed. We completed our first remodel of one bathroom and kitchen/family room. It was an overwhelming and unknown process to say the least. Gridley Company made it easy and took us through the steps one at a time from start to finish. They answered all our inane, simple and crazy questions. All their employees as well as their sub-contractors were great. They were courteous and respectful as we were occupying the house as the remodel was taking place. If there was an issue it was fixed immediately. The only suggestion I would make for the clients is to make sure you go over each of the choices being selected. For example, if you are getting cabinets, consider the height, depth and width. For the tub, consider the height. We just completed a complete kitchen remodel, and we couldn't be happier. I've experienced several remodeling projects from different companies (bathroom remodel, garage renovation, master suite new construction, large backyard landscape), and this was the best of the bunch. We chose Gridley after interviewing four other firms. Of course, each has its individual business plan and process. We found Gridley's to be the most customer friendly, up-front and honest, and committed to customer satisfaction. The initial meeting with Linda gave us a solid overview of the design-build process including how costs would be determined, what we would expect in terms of cost and time, and how the process would proceed. The idea was to renovate the kitchen, but the outcome was an "open concept" connecting the kitchen and the living room. Lisa was helpful with furniture layout and selection as well as colors although much of this really all exceeded the scope of the project. We worked with Lisa as our designer, and we found her very easy to work with. In the end we combined her design ideas with our own, and the outcome was really good. I like that everything was scheduled . . . the time window for the design process, the time window after design-before build while the materials were ordered, and the building process itself. We worked with Brian as our project manager. He was always responsive, and he anticipated even the smallest concern we might have, and almost always fixed problems before we even had to ask about them. Clearly Brian and the entire company is truly committed to quality and customer satisfaction. The construction timeline lasted just about three months, just as planned, even with our own change orders. We walked in with only a vague idea of what we wanted, and our designer, Lora, listened to us, and created multiple floor plans to help us get started. She then guided us on the selection of color schemes, fixtures, flooring and surfaces, offering advice and suggestions, but always keeping our preferences in mind. Gridley prepares a very detailed contract, itemizing everything, to minimize the possibility of costly surprises as work progresses. Documentation is maintained online, and payment schedules and change orders are readily available. Both Lora, and Brian, our project manager, kept us informed throughout the remodel, and were quick to respond if we had questions. Everyone we worked with at Gridley was knowledgeable, personable, and professional. Robin did a fantastic job on the electrical work. Our remodel experience (Fall '18 to Fall '19) with Gridley was very positive. Ours wasn't the typical project - we underwent a complete exterior refresh with new roof, siding, trim, windows, doors, and added a covered 6 ft. covered porch/sitting area on the front of the house. It was very extensive. Our designer, Gemma, was fabulous. Construction management (Roger) was wonderful. Ownership/admin (Linda, front desk) were always very polite and professional. Were there bumps along the way...of course. But Gridley, especially Roger, was there at every turn. Always available, very supportive, and very attentive. You felt you were listened to and your concerns were always taken seriously. Will you pay a bit more for a Gridley remodel...probably. However, I'm a believer that you also pay for a certain level of detail, competence, and the overall experience. Gridley was a pleasure to work with on all levels. Sadly having to changed our feelings and rating. We wanted to use Gridley for a kitchen redesign. We completed the design contract but the cost was over $200k WITHOUT appliances for new cabinets, structural wall removal and adding a kitchen island. Communication not great with Lori the designer. We asked for designs at a lower price as we felt she was designing way beyond what we needed and unnecessarily moving stoves, sinks etc that added to the project cost. She came back with a price even higher. Not feeling like a valued return customer and sadly won't use them or refer them based on this experience. read more

We remodeled our home two years ago. We settled on Gridley for several reasons -- they spent a lot of time learning about us and what we wanted. They made several site visits to the house and spent a lot of time photographing and discussing options, and spent some time on the phone with us as well. The next phase took a few months, during which we met with Lisa Cross several times to discuss concepts. She took a phased approach with us, carefully segmenting the final plan into thoughtfully arranged steps. During these steps we selected everything from materials, to design, color and more. Lisa was fantastic -- even spent some time giving our young granddaughter some toys and a little quick love and attention. Then it was the construction team's turn. When they came to demo the first day, it felt a little shocking -- just as Lisa explained we would feel. But the team was great. They were great guys and explained everything in great detail. We lived with them for nearly seven months and we actually missed them when they were done -- they were that enjoyable and respectful of us. The workmanship is stellar. We did a major reformat of the house layout and you would not know anything was changed. The quality of materials and build are superb. They raised ceilings, move multiple walls, created new doorways, and much much more. We are absolutely thrilled with our "new" house. Even today -- literally today -- my wife and I still compare it to the "old" house and have not been anything less than thrilled. We recommend Gridley highly for their personal attention, and being detail oriented, extremely professional, and personable all down the line. We wanted to create an open kitchen and family room in our 1950's ranch which would open up the existing rooms yet keep consistent with the feel of the rest of our home. We spoke with a number of architects about the project and ultimately chose Gridley Company for the project. Our reasons for choosing Gridley were: design/build meant we could deal with one group from start to finish, smaller investment up front in the "design" phase vs. an architect (allowed us to assure over time this group would be the right fit for us), quality of the work we saw in other projects, and "fit" with the designer and team. We worked with Gemma as our designer and that was a great partnership. She was able to take the ideas and desires we had about the space and help us formulate them in to something that was cohesive in look, fit the style we were hoping for, and perhaps more importantly, look like it was always there vs an addition. Roger was our project manager and was great to work with throughout the actual remodel. He and the team were knowledgeable, always available for questions, and respectful of the fact that we and our children were living in the house through a pretty intensive project. Gridley really does a thorough job of helping you come up with a good design for your project and does a very nice job of making it come to life. However, when we discovered two years after the project was done that a shower had been leaking into the wall and caused significant damage, they repaired the damage but charged us a couple thousand for the repairs. read more

We chose Gridley to perform a major remodel of our home. We had lived in the house about 20 years and had routine maintenance performed but not much else. I would recommend Gridley for all design and construction projects. Gemma was our designer and she transformed an awkward space into a beautiful and tremendously usable kitchen. The computer modelling is so helpful to visualize nearly exactly how the project will turn out so you know just what you are getting. Gemma also guided us --very patiently(!)-- through all of the hard choices, like tile and granite, before the project even began so there was no panicked running around during the construction. She then was able to include our choices into the computer model so we really could see the result. The construction team--lead by Greg-- was fantastic. Their work is top quality and Greg responded immediately to our concerns and questions.
