Beware - we had our kitchen remodeled by Urban Design in September of 2021. The kitchen floor tile started getting loose after a couple of months. We called Urban Design to come back out. The sub contractor replaced 5 rows of tile. After a couple of more months, the tile started to rock and grout was coming up like you would not believe. I called Urban Design and they did not reply. we are having a "real contractor" replace the tile. the hardy board was not screwed in properly, and the adhesive did not take. A lot of the tile just came up with no adhesive at all. Thanks for having us pay $5800 again. this time it will be done right. Beware. We were referred to Urban Interior Design by two friends when we wanted to remodel our small laundry room so we could fit the larger, newer, more efficient washer and dryers and replace our worn, sheet vinyl flooring. We asked Betty to also quote a kitchen remodel option. We enjoyed working with Betty on the redesign and her practical suggestions. Her quote was so reasonable that we decided to do everything. The original estimate of 2-3 weeks, as typical for remodel projects, depending on the problems/complications encountered, stretched out to 5 weeks. Betty coordinated her three different work groups (divided by trade skills) to complete the remodel. At times there were coordination and communication(language) issues where I had to communicate with Betty to resolve and some of the smaller tasks were delegated to less skilled personnel. I felt that it was necessary to actively monitor to ensure things were completed according to plan/agreement. The plumbing, electrical and cabinet work was high quality and the quartz work by Sal and team was superb. Sal made sure that the quartz pattern matched perfectly at the island countertop and waterfall joint. That joint and the 45 degree joint on the sink/stove countertop are completely invisible, as if they were cut from one piece. In the end, we are very happy with the results and are very happy with both our laundry room and kitchen updates by Urban Interior Design. read more

Overall: 5/5 Cabinet/Counter Quality: 5/5 Workmanship: 4/5 Price: affordable TLDR; Urban Interior Design's price is reasonable and overall it's easy to communicate with the project manager, Betty, and her team. I'm happy with the work they did and would recommend to friends/family. Only side note is that you'll need to be more hands on during the whole process to make sure everything is to your expectations. (Post is long overdue. Remodels were completed 04/2019, 07/2019, and 05/2020) ~~~~ I did my bathroom and kitchen remodel separately and each time I began the project, I got at least 10 different quotes (mostly from Yelp but some from referrals). Both times, I ended up going with UID because their cost was the most reasonable (not the cheapest). A lot of the quotes I had received were at least 2x the cost! They quote you for cabinet, countertop, and work labor and offer you a payment plan. What's not included is all the rough and finishing material they'll use/need during remodel. Betty will be able to give you a ballpark of how much the rough materials will cost and once the project is completed, they'll give you a receipt with everything they had to buy for your project. Betty, the project manager, will come by for the initial consultation and if there's a change in layout, she'll provide you with a digital layout of what the new floor plan will look like with the cabinets/counters. Once you decide to move forward, you put down the deposit and she'll schedule time for her team to begin the project. Betty will provide you with how much finishing material you'll need for the project and you'll need to buy this on your own. I personally would recommend checking out Floor & Decor for tiles/grout/finishing trims. For hardware and appliances, you can basically buy it from anywhere that has the best price. After that, she will have a team come by to do demolition. Angel and his team will start by lining the floors and sealing off the area to keep the dirt/dust to a minimum. They work pretty fast and do a good job cleaning up. Afterwards, the contractor/electrician will start the work. Usually there's only 1 person doing the job and they come every day but sometimes they have to go to another project. This part is a bit annoying because I had to follow-up with the contractor (mandarin speaking) to see if they'd be coming. You also need to keep an eye on the project from time to time to make sure everything is to your expectation. I'd recommend having someone that's detailed/a perfectionist inspect the work because sometimes there might be small stuff that you need to correct. They do a good job with the counter and installing the sinks but I think the cabinet installation is a bit ugly. What I mean by this is they cut open the cabinet backing instead of just drilling pipe holes. Maybe you can request it to be done nicer but I didn't notice until after it was done. (Image below) Overall, very happy with how it turned out but you definitely need to be hands on with this project to make it turns out the way you want it to be. Still worth the price! Urban Interior Design is a very trustworthy and capable company. The owner Betty really has a fantastic team. I recently remodeled one of my bathrooms. Their beautiful work and completions really impressed me. I was initially so scared of demolition because I don't know what surprises I will have. But Mr. Wong, one and the best worker/master, completely chased my fears away. He used one day to demolish. Underneath the walls and floors, the wood was all rotted. But Mr. said: no worry. I can replace all these for you. He did next day. He is the best construction worker I ever had: he keeps his words, is on time and most skillful. The original scheduled time is three weeks. But Betty and her team finished the job within two and half weeks. Mr. Wong was working the prover's single day. Betty is a wonderful project manager. She is always available to me and very accommodating in price as well as in other requests. She is very lucky to have Mr. Wong and Sal, the stone guy, who does a fabulous work on the slab and vanity top. I am very lucky to have all of them. Our kitchen has been at the top of our remodel list for 2 years now. We were referred to Betty by one of her previous clients. Initially, I just wanted to save money and re-face, however, I was quite surprised how much they were charging. So I explored full remodels and got quotes that were all over the place. We ended up choosing Betty because: 1. We were on a budget and received quotes that were 3-4x her quote 2. They had much better customer service than another similar company that came highly recommended by a few people. I mean, that other company's service was atrocious. I walked out on them. Overall, we are satisfied with the end result but you get what you pay for. This will require a bit more hand holding and double checking of the work versus the more expensive contractors. There are little nuances that we can live with considering what we paid. Throughout the remodel, Betty and her team were very accommodating and made sure our concerns were addressed. But after the kitchen was done, they seemed to get much busier so getting them to come back to fix things was difficult. read more

We hired Betty and her team at Urban Interior Design to renovate 2 bathrooms in our townhome in August and we could not be happier with the completed project. We had actually used Urban Interior Design to update our kitchen 10 years ago and when it came time for the bathroom renovation, we reached out to Betty again. Of course, we did our due diligence and received estimates from two other companies. The pricing proposal we received from Urban Interior Design was very reasonable and within the scope of our budget. We were comfortable with Betty's suggestions and advice for colors and materials. Furthermore, Betty confirmed she would be able to meet our requested timeline for the project. We were hosting an event at our residence in early September, and we would also have house guests during this time, so the renovation would have to be completed by the end of August. The project was scheduled in July and the initial teardown started promptly in August. The entire project was completed in two weeks. Betty was quick to respond to text communication, and at the end of each day, we were made aware of the arrival time, scope of work and team that was scheduled to come in the following day. We selected vanities, vanity tops and sinks from the Urban Interior Design showroom, so were secure in knowing that these materials were in stock and available for our project. We were responsible for purchasing flooring, faucet fixtures, lighting, mirrors, cabinet knobs, and paint, and to ensure that these materials were available for Betty's team to install at each stage in the renovation. Betty's team arrived on time, worked efficiently and cleaned up at the end of each day. We inspected the work at the end of each day, and other than a couple minor issues related to paint touch up (which were addressed promptly), we were very satisfied with all aspects of workmanship provided for our project. My fiance and I recently purchased a fixer-upper and needed to remodel the kitchen right away. As first-time homebuyers, we did not know where to even begin. Luckily for us, we had a friend who also remodeled his kitchen and suggested that we contact Betty and Vic at Urban Home Design. Thank goodness we did! We showed up with no exact measurements, (just a brief description of what our kitchen looked like....we were as clueless as they come) but Betty and Vic were extremely patient and helpful. They were able to create a blueprint mapping of our kitchen based on our pretty pathetic hand-drawn diagram and maybe 1 or 2 photos of the area. Even with limited information, Betty was able to create a very accurate estimate! From start to finish, the whole process took about 2 weeks. This included demolition, a fresh coat of paint, beautiful cabinets and granite, and installation of appliances. We chose cream maple cabinets and upgraded the granite countertop to "santa cecilia" I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome!!! Honestly, their quote was very reasonable and Betty was great at keeping us informed of the different stages of the entire process. I did hire an interior designer (about $160) to take a look at our galley kitchen just in case I was missing something. She did recommend that we move our fridge to a different spot, which made all the difference! Anyway, Betty and her crew did a great job of moving everything where it needed to be and the installation of the cabinets and the timing of the project were great! Not sure how these guys stay in business. When I went to their location,the door was locked and lights were off with no sign of anyone around. Even tho they say they are open during regular business hours,there was no one to be found. When I inquired about them to the lady next door,she told me that they come and go with no set times as to when they are there. She also informed me that she sees them infrequently and did not know when or if they were going to return at all that day. Their ad in the local paper says they are open during regular business hours,yet no one is there. The lady next door also thought that you might need to make an appointment,yet no such notice exists either in their ad or on the door. To me they should go by their posted hours and be open so that people can just drop in and if an appointment is required they should specify such! This is no way to run a business! So, we contacted Betty from Urban Home Design sometime in May 2018 to renovate our bathroom and our kitchen flooring. By June 2018, we gave our deposit with the agreement that they will start the work on 8/20 (yeah two months later). By August 18th, we got an email (not a call) that they can't start the work and that they will start on 8/27th. My husband actually at the time filed for a vacation so he could oversee the work. But at the very last minute, he had to cancel and re-apply for vacation. We agreed to have a much later start date, Sept 4th so that if they have any pending work, they will be able to finish it and concentrate on our project. Bathroom demo did start on Sept. 4th. The guys doing the kitchen flooring a couple of days later. But then, the kitchen guys stopped working after the first day (they left at 230 pm and only put 3 rows of tiles). For four days, Thursday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday, there was no work. So by Monday, 9/10, we are expecting the bathroom and kitchen workers to show up. At the time of this review, and after a frustrating call with Betty (who by the way didn't have a clue what was happening), no workers yet! So, I am just saying, if you will decide to go with this company, think twice. We agreed to go with them, even if we have a much lower quote from a different company, believing they will do a good job. But, oh boy, only few days after the start date, and we literally have to call every single time to ensure, part of the work gets done. Betty and her team did a great job on our kitchen upgrade. We kept our existing cabinets so they worked around them as to not damage them. We wanted quartz counter tops and new back splash, which she had in her showroom. Her team started on the date she had planned, and finished in 6 working days! If it was up to me I would give this place ZERO stars. We had our kitchen cabinets and flooring done back in early 2000. Since then we have tried contacting Betty regarding some flooring issues. She had told us not to worry and someone will be sent out. Nobody showed and so we tried calling Betty back. She would either ignore our calls or have someone tell us she was busy or away. The last time we got in contact with her she had told us to take pictures and email them. We did and till this day we have yet to hear back from her or anyone. We are remodeling our entire house like from scratch. We ordered our kitchen shaker cabinets from urban interior designs. When my contractor was installing we found o e cabinet door was totally chipped ,dented and one door wasnt alligned. I requested betty and she said she will replace the door. And the other door which i got i all scratched. Now i requested her so many times that she should come and have a look on my door and please replace me as i paid the full amount and thats not my fault anyways but sbe said i have to pay 95$ again for the door. We had our bathroom remodeled by them about 2 years ago. this review is long overdue. Everything sounded good but when it came down to the job...... They promised us two workers, we only had one. They said it would be done in one week- it 13 days. When I noticed there was some moisture in the sub flooring and I asked them to replace it they said no, that their guy said it was not necessary. Really? I want to pay you to do more work and you don't want to do it? They said I could stop the job and find someone else to fix the sub floor or let them continue as is- those were my choices! A recessed mirrored medicine cabinet I had them put in was not centered properly. The guy said he could not do it. My friend Who has done some construction and is a handyman said that was not true he was just lazy. So our center mirror is slightly offset from our light above and our sink below. Ultimately the job came out OK. The worker they sent us was just getting over being sick and worked like it the whole time. He also left his tools in our living room until we complained about it the 1st day. The worker was not Mr. Tam, Who I've read good things about. They also charged us 1500.00 which was over the legal limit for deposit of 10% or 1000.00. Which they were warned about by The California state contractors licensing board. The bottom line is, if you use this company get what they promise you in writing or run away. read more

My Wife and I chose Urban Interior Design to remodel our kitchen. The design was great, however, we had problems with the Sub-Contractors from the beginning to the end and it is still ... on going. The Porcelain Tile has not been installed correctly and after 1 month there were about (6) 24x12" tiles that needed to be replaced. The grout started coming out and the tile itself rocked back and forth. The Sub-Contractor came out and replaced the (6) tiles. That was about 4 months ago. There is still grout coming out and additional tiles are rocking back and forth as if the tiles themselves were not "butter-backed" evenly with the adhesive. I e-mailed Urban and I have not heard back from them. My Wife and I are very disappointed and we will have to pay for a full floor replacement to have it done correctly. A proper installation should last 40 years not a few months. We are too leery about using Urban Interior so we will chalk it up to experience I guess, and pay for a new floor. I cannot and will not recommend Urban Interior Design to anyone. The picture does not do justice - this is happening on about 6-8 separate tiles and they rock back and forth and cause a "SNAP" sound when you walk on them. They are installed on the board which is attached to the subfloor. This should not be happening. read more

This is a late review. We had our kitchen remodeled in May of this year. We absolutely love our new kitchen. They installed new cabinets to our kitchen and dining room along with granite counter tops. They also replaced our old florescent lighting with recessed lighting. We approached 4 other contractors for estimates. Our kitchen is a galley style kitchen approximately 10' x 8.5 feet. We were quoted anywhere from $14,000 to $25,000. The pricing was great with Urban Home Design and they finished in time. With the savings in money, we were able to add cabinets and granite counters to our dining room for extra storage and serving area. Our dining area is an additional 10'. They estimated 10 days, but were done in less than 7. Every question I emailed was answered promptly. The only downside was knowing what was happening next. I wish that I could have received an email of the days completed work and what was to follow. However I tend to be overly controlling over time & organization so that might not be a worry for others. :) They are fabulous to work with and I will always recommend them. When I'm ready to remodel my bathrooms, they will be the first company I call. read more

We bought the J&K white shaker kitchen cabinet here and their service is outstanding. After we decided on the cabinet, Michael came to my house and took detailed measurements, free of charge. We had many rounds of design changes to accommodate for the weight loading beam and pillar in our kitchen to make everything functional and pretty. Michael provided many great suggestions. He was understanding and patient in the whole process and never pushed us to make a final decision. Three things to call out: 1. it's hard to change your design once you place the order. 2. they are usually quite busy in the morning so better call them in the afternoons. 3. make sure you get the handler that fit the size of the cabinet. read more

We waited over 30 yrs to remodel our kitchen so I was really excited to get it done. We shopped around, got a few estimates and chose Urban after meeting with Michael. His relaxed personality and sincere honesty sold us. :) Choosing the countertop and backsplash was much more difficult and less fun than I had imagined, but we finally decided on a simple quartz counter and Carrara marble backsplash (hoping for low maintenance without grout with a clean look and a bit of elegance). There are several crews that come through for a kitchen remodel including demo, electrical, general contractor, countertop, flooring. All were very hard working, considerate of our home, and fast at their jobs! The 4 stars was due to a glitch in our marble which I'm not sure was a factory or installation problem with small chips on the bottom edges. Betty was wonderful to have the crew come back twice and came herself to make sure they did all they could to fix it as best as possible. I have to give extra kudos to Howard, the electrician, though he was just recommended by Urban. Howard was not only excellent with his skills as an electrician, but he is also exceptional in making great recommendations to the other crews (as he is also a contractor). Exceptionally competent, kind and reasonably priced. So, despite the extra week to fix the backsplash, our remodel was completed in ~4 weeks (including flooring)! Urban Home Design was able to replace our old kitchen cabinets, counter tops and lights for a reasonable, relatively low cost. They were the lowest price when we were shopping around. We were happy with the Quality of cabinets and the granite countertop. Betty offered excellent Customer service. She always returns our call when we have concerns. She also help us pick the right colors for the back splash tile that will match the counter top and cabinets. Her interior decorating degree and experience really help. The person in charge of the carpentry work is nice because he listens to what we want to be done. It took them about 1 1/2 weeks to finish the kitchen. I'm a little late writing this review, as the job they did was over a year ago, but they did a great job and just wanted to recognize them, better late than never! Betty was great to work with during the design process. The job was to upgrade the kitchen in my rental property, which has some funky dimensions, and Betty was more than willing to make sure we got the proper cabinets for the space. Tan the installer did a fantastic job and had everything completed in two days. Tan went above the call of duty by reinstalling a bathroom door that was in the way of the new refrigerator. I had Betty from Urban Interior Design come out for a kitchen reno estimate on June 4th. Everything went well, and she said we'd have the estimate in a week. Now, after 3+ weeks, an email and phone call later, we still haven't received an estimate. After my last attempt to find out what the hold up was, Betty promised to send the quote after talking to her contractor. How long does it take to "talk to" your contractor?! I get the hint when someone just doesn't want your business. Honesty and follow through mean a lot, but is too much to ask of this company. Very disappointed!!! read more

Our kitchen remodel has been at the top of our to do list for quite some time. We reseasrched many places and Urban Interior Design was budget friendly and exceeded our expectations. Our kitchen is complete and we were very pleased with Betty and her team from Urban Interior Design. Our kitchen turned out beautiful and the job was done in a quick and timely manner. All employees take time to address concerns and any questions we had concerning the job. The contractors came when they said they would come and not one day was I left hanging waiting for repair and demo work to be completed. Depending on how busy the team is, it may take a little time to get a quote only because Betty had to carefully measure and design our updated kitchen and used software to help with all of it. We wanted a higher quality backspash and counter and becasue of this we did not go with urban. Slabs were purchased and intsalled by another team, tiles were purchased from another company but installed by Betty's team. Thanks Betty! We love our new kitchen. read more

A little late with a review on Yelp but still worth mentioning. Almost a year after the work was completed and I still love my kitchen! It's beautiful and very functional. The work was completed quickly, efficiently and very professionally. The office staff stayed in frequent contact. The contractor, Tan and his assistant were very professional and very polite, answering any questions. We appreciated that the contractor arrived everyday before 8:30AM, and work began promptly at that time. After demolition, the contractor repaired or replaced the damaged drywall behind the sink and the old stove. Following the walkthrough, a punchlist was prepared, and Tan returned to completed all the work on the punchlist list which include replacement of a warped cabinet door, and replacement of one defective cabinet door. We purchased high-end stainless steel Kitchenaid stove, dishwasher, and refrigerator We have a beautiful kitchen with ample counter space and storage. We are extremely happy with this product we got for a very reasonable price, less than $10,000 and looks like a million. Of the many local places I checked out, this place had quality in all the cabinets they had. Sturdy material, good finish and good pricing. Betty and Michael are very good to work with. They are very helpful and open in suggesting what would work best instead of blindly accepting our requirements. Shelves for some designs are not deep enough, limited glass door designs. few discontinued products. Hope they upgrade their stock soon. We found Urban Home Design from an ad in the Mercury News. We found what they offered intriguing and gave them a call. They first sent out their interior designer to look at our dated kitchen. Betty was wonderful! She listened to what we wanted to do with our kitchen and gave us suggestions from there. In only two days, we received a 3D layout, via e-mail, which also included the pricing. We were shocked at how low the price was! We set up a time to go to their office to finalize the paperwork and make choices for cabinet colors, tile colors and grout color. It was one of the most painless experiences we have ever had. We chose a start date and were told it would take about 2 weeks. Honestly, we had in our minds it would be longer, but it wasn't! They were professional, on-time, and did a fabulous job. Kevin, who do the majority of the work in our kitchen was great! He was neat and clean and definitely a perfectionist! In all fairness, Urban Home Design Inc did not complete any work in our house, but the one-star review is still warranted due to the lack of responsiveness from their staff in receiving an estimate to begin with. My entire experience (or lack thereof) was with Michael who came out to measure for a master bath remodel on 8/21. He took pictures, measurements and I conveyed to him the idea of changing the layout to make better use of the space. I requested 2 quotes- one for changing out the layout and one for keeping everything the same. He said he would need close to a week to come up with the "design" and estimate. I called the following week 8/28 for status update and he said he was still working on it. We decided to come into their showroom the next day to discuss options and see their vanities, but still no design/estimate ready- but not a big deal as it's only been one full week. 3 weeks pass and I email on 9/9 but never receive a reply, so I call 2 days later on 9/11 where Michael tells me the quote will be sent via email by end of day, but I still get nothing. I wait for the weekend to pass and call yet again on 9/14 and speak with Betty who tells me she will follow-up with Michael, but still nothing later that day or week. 4 weeks pass and I call on 9/21 where Michael says he has the quote and will email it right away, but I don't receive anything for 2 hours so I call back and he says he got busy but will send right away. 3 days later 9/24 (5 weeks now) still no email, so I call and speak to Betty who tells me she will make sure I get the email as I explain it's been over a month just to get a quote. Finally I receive the quote and there is no design changes at all to the existing layout. I waited patiently for 5 weeks to receive a basic quote on what the labor would cost to simply change out the existing fixtures, shower, etc.. When I question Michael as to why there was no "design" changes- his response was that their design program is catered towards kitchens and not bathrooms. I really wished he had told me that up front rather than anticipating the possibility they might be able to assist with making better use of our space. I initially found Urban Home Design via Yelp reviews and was hoping to experience some of the positive feedback I read in past reviews, but unfortunately this was not the case with us. I had them to replace my counter top. We picked the same color code, they delivered and installed a lighter color for one of granite counter tops while we were not home. After done, I complained they said they couldn't replace it and didn't reply my request for credit. Also, I lost some kitchen components after demolition. The quality of counter top (imported from Italy but made in China) is not good. A lot of stains that I couldn't clean and polish. I you think of hiring them...Learn from my lesson. When they want business, they aggressively called but have been silent with complains..I will file my complain with State for this service. read more

I hired Urban Home Design to remodel my Kitchen, I got several bids, granted they were the least expensive, but when we went to select material and granite the price started to adds up quickly, I did not want to go back to my other bidders as they put some time with me so far, They assured me that the project will be finished in 2 weeks and that they are licensed and they can do the job to code and that plumbing and electrical wiring was part of their expertise. Of course I read all the great reviews on yelp and I was sold. Shortly after the project started, my home was looking like a mess, the debris from demolition was left on premises for the entire 4 weeks it took them to finish my project. I asked them on daily basis to remove the trash, that did not happen, they said they have to save the dumping fee. Dust was all over my house, as they failed to cover the rooms with plastic. This was just the beginning. the day they were supposed to tile my floor, the material arrived with different color shade that I picked, I asked if I can have the one picked instead, they told me that I will have to wait extra 10 days, and now I have to accept different color floor than what I was hoping for. I requested 1/16 spacers on tile, the tile guy who could not understand my English insisted on using 3/16 inch spacers as he said the tile is not straight, my modern kitchen dream was vanishing. They moved few electrical outlets and added some on the peninsula. also they ran a water line to the fridge and moved my sink about 1 foot, and they charged me outrageous $1200 for that. the cabinet installer did the electrical work and plumbing by himself. no plumber was on site, no electrician. Finally when it was time to put my granite, the nightmare again happened, Betty called to apologize " sorry they ran out of the granite color you chose", can you pick another one! its been 5 weeks by now, and you still have not ordered my granite,. Common...I have already paid for it in advance 4 weeks ago. Why wait for last minute to order. I was frustrated as I was getting a kitchen that looks nothing like what I signed for. I went with another color, as I had no choice. and finally it was time for the final inspection, when the inspector came he checked the oulets and they were all on the same circuit as the lights and bathroom circuits, he wanted them updated to code, and he failed the inspection. He said that he told urban workers to put the outlet on separate circuits, but it seems that they did not understand, now the only remedy is to rip off my granite backsplash run new circuit, which I paid for already, their workers took short cut and did not tell me. Urban said that I will have to pay them another $1600 to remove my backsplash and run the circuit. when I asked to see their electrician license and why he did not do it to code, they could not show me any license, cause they had none. and honestly the guy that did my plumbing and electrical was closer to a cave man than a craftsman. since they failed the inspection, they left job and do not return my phone calls. I am so upset now, I have an incomplete project, the sink is leaking under cabinet and does not drain properly, they did not caulk the corners of the crown molding, some handles are not dirked straight. I am in dismay and I hope that after they see my review they can come to their senses and finish the job. They have already been paid almost 90% and they have no incentive to finish the mess they left me in. I do not wish this to happen to any body, I fell for the good reviews they had. read more
