I told him my situation and he said he could have it for me by the end of the day! I put the dress on and had him pin it to the perfect length. I also needed it taken in significantly up top, but was planning on getting a big bra to fix the problem based on my time constraint. Greg has been my tailor of choice for now two different jobs: an entire recut of a blazer, and an entire recut of dress pants. Both garments came from a certain Banana Republic, and like most of their stuff, had great fabric and style, but fit poorly. Since I bought both items at a good price and had them sitting in my closet un-used, figured I would throw some money into having them fixed. Greg's shop is located next to my office in downtown Boston, so I took a chance on him. ('To stay in business with downtown businessmen, you have to be good at your craft,' I thought.) My blazer came back much better than before (shoulders were too big and the whole thing was big and boxy, so Greg had to literally re-cut the whole thing.) It came back WAY better than it went in. And frankly, I probably should have sized better to begin with. Lesson learned. But now I have something wearable where there was once something just sitting in my closet. The pants on the other hand, came back absoltuley perfect. I brought in a beautiful pair of dark-grey wool pants that were again, big and boxy all over despite being the same size I always buy at the store (dont you hate that?). They came back looking, well, like they were made for me ! Made slim but not too slim, they hug my butt like nothing ever has before. Waist was taken in, leg slimmed, crotch taken up, leg taken up, the works. And what came back was 100% what I wanted. I look like a legit Italian ... and thats a great compliment ! I have VERY discerning taste, but understand that there are definitley ways to cut corners in a head-to-toe look, and still come out looking rich. I'm someone who will wear Banana dress pants, but sink money into Barney's shirts and Saks ties. Its good to be a stickler for fit. Fit is always the key to looking good, and making your clothes look expensive. So if you're someone who has the same views I have, pay a visit to Greg. He will breathe new life into the clothes you love but wont wear cause they're not perfect -- he will make them perfect. PS. Prices arent cheap, but not overpriced by any means. Blazer was around a $70 job, pants about $50. But if it makes your $80 pants look like $300 custom made, WORTH IT. read more

Gregory the Tailor did complicated work on my son's business suit in just two hours. Even more important, he got the work done on the same afternoon when I called him. The suit was needed promptly for a meeting. My son had accidentally closed the closet door on his black suit jacket. All four buttons on the right sleeve cracked and ultimately fell off. Gregory had the black 5/8" buttons in stock. He showed me that he would open up the sleeve lining, and would then sew the buttons to the jacket sleeve only, so the lining would not clump or buckle onto my son's arm.He offered to change the buttons on the left sleeve too so all 8 would match. I am so glad he suggested this. Then he let out the suit pants at the waist to give 2" more of fabric. The four buttons on each sleeve were aligned straight. All the extra threads were cut off for a neat appearance. The stitching on the pants was so strong and neat that it looked original. The suit came out looking like new. I as so pleased that I asked for Gregory's business cards. I passed them out to all the men in our office. read more

Gregory is the best tailor in town! He welcomed me into his office and went through every little detail and measurement for my shirts and suit. Also, he explained exactly why and how he was going to tailor my shirts and suit. In addition, he shared a great story about how and why he started his business. He is very inspiring! The best part is after he fits a few shirts, he can create a template (not sure what the technical term is) so that you can have shirts altered without waiting to be fitted. I have been to 3 or 4 other high end tailors and can say his service is top notch and price is very reasonable. Turnaround time is a week or less. He pays attention to detail - one of my suits had the sleeve longer, and he quickly pointed it out and fixed it without hassle. This place is GREAT. I came in with a last minute emergency and Gregory helped me out right there on the spot. I needed a dress steamed before work, and had little time to get it done. He steamed it, AND went above and beyond and ironed it. I know they typically only work on menswear, but he knew what he was doing with womens clothing too! I tried out all of Boston's best tailors to choose one for my wedding suit. After all of my trials, I chose Greg. Don't be fooled by the older decor. Greg has a keen sense of modern style and fit. Above all, Greg listened to me and delivered exactly what I wanted. When my pants didn't fit exactly as I expected, Greg did not hesitate to take them back and re-cut them until I was 100% satisfied. After shopping around to multiple tailors (including Newbury Tailoring) I will not trust anyone but Greg to tailor what I see as the most important suit I will ever wear. By the way, price is not my first priority for choosing a tailor. With that said, Greg's services are worth than he charges. I had the same exact alterations done on two pairs of pants: one I took to Greg, and the other to Newbury Tailoring Co. Greg charged $60. Recently dropped off a pair of pants to fix a cuff that came undone (original work done by another tailor). Gregory was able to fix the cuff in about 2 hours at a very reasonable cost. Also, dropped off a coat that had lost some buttons over time. Would highly recommend Gregory to sew on buttons as they won't be falling off anytime soon. I have been searching for a good tailor in Boston for a while, who understands how cloths should fit man. There was one tailor at Newbury Street that I liked, but they closed over a year ago. I came across Gregory by simply walking in front of his store, which is not actually a store, but an office slash atelier in the second floor on Summer Street, downtown. It is not in the hub of Newbury, where you would expect find good tailors, but unfortunately, Newbury has no good tailors for man. There are plenty for women. I have tried a number of tailors and they all screw up my shirts. On the other hand, Gregory is a great find and worth your time. I have pretty much customized my shirts with him and he has made my shirts look as good as the shirts you see in fashion magazines, which by the way are all cut for the pictures. He is a very personable and likeable person who tries to understand what you are looking to do. I rarely write any reviews, but I felt compelled to give him 5 stars for the experience I had. Gregory presence might be an issue for some people, because I have experienced going to his store couple of times and finding the doors closed. I found out that simply calling him before coming to his shop is the best way to avoid any issues. I hope that the men's fashion magazines out there will figure out that they should recommend Gregory for their readers. It is funny how one of the magazines (Details) had recently (two months ago) recommended the tailor on Newbury street that I used to go, but they forgot to check that the tailor have been out of business for over a year. I guess we can't trust the fashion magazines, they likely recycle their articles periodically. read more

The credit card machine not working is frustrating, especially when others have pointed out that this issue has persisted now for the better part of a year. Walk away from Gregory's I trusted Gregory so much that I paid in advance to have invisible mending done on my trousers. Gregory promised not to cash the check until they were done. He cashed the check immediately. Four months later he is still promising that he'll have them ready 'tomorrow.' I went here with a pair of Jeans that needed a button replaced. One gentleman was very nice, a gent who was speaking nicely to me to explain what options I had, 1 button on top or replace all so they match. I opted to have one button done as the others below were not visible. I Asked the price and all of a sudden another guy who was completely rude and abrupt shouts '5 dollars'. I had no problem with the price but his attitude was terrible. A little later I arrive back to collect and the same guy who shouted at me earlier was there, completely rude,shouts to tell me he doesn't take cards. I told him he shouldn't talk to me like that when he got even more aggressive. I said i would go and get cash, he shouts at me to leave the jeans in his possession, even though i didn't even begin to try to leave with them. On arrival back with cash to pay, he seems to have realized that he was being very rude and asks if we can 'talk' about it. I declined to enter into conversation, paid and left. Such a shame because the first man was a gentleman, then this guy barges into the whole process with out reason (remember, 1 button is all I wanted t have replaced) and leaves what could have been a normal customer experience in shambles. I have been to his location on Summer Street. Did a nice job on a dress for me. I had to chase him down a bit to get it. So now he has moved.. I called his phone (which is a cell, not a business phone) and he said he was located behind Men's Warehouse. HE IS NOT!!! He is located in the back room of a very shady jewelry store on Temple Place. Yes, you have to walk into the jewelry store full of some very scary people. Then go into a back room. Just a room. NO DRESSING ROOM TO CHANGE. He said he was getting a contractor to fix it up, but my gut instinct is that he is not. The room is in shambles. It's dirty and smells so badly of body odor. I notice a surveillance camera where you have to change. He tells me its broken.. He said change here and I will come back when you are finished. I had 6 articles of clothing to be tailored. He asked if he could walk to the ATM with me to get the cash to pay him in advance. With that being said, I do not trust him or the surroundings that he is in. I took my clothes, and left. I will never go back. Please be careful if you visit his new location. read more

Pretty bad - I went to Gregory's because it reminded me of a great tailor that always kept me looking sharp when I lived in Montreal. Gregory is nice enough, though he tries to sell too hard and his system for managing the work seems to be put it all in a pile and wait for the customer to show up and complain. I went in for a couple of custom shirts that he said would be ready within 2 weeks. It's been 4 weeks and he has a truckload of excuses. On another occasion I went in to pickup a few pairs of pants he was adjusting, he told me it would be 5 minutes, then I think he actually started the work and by the time everything was done it had taken 45 minutes. read more

The owner of this establishment is extraordinarily sneaky and unreliable. When I dropped off, he would not issue a ticket for my alterations. When I went to pick up he was not there. I was leaving to travel for a wedding and needed the garment he had worked on. I called him and he attributed his absence to "car trouble". When I came back an hour and a half later, he tried to charge me $15 dollars more than he had initially quoted me, stating that he did rush work to finish it by the previous day (which I had not requested). When I refused to pay the increased amount, he ripped the garment out of my hand, and became threatening and confrontational. He intimidated me into throwing the money at him, grabbing the garment, and running out. I will NEVER go back to Gregory. There are plenty of over-priced tailors in Boston and there is no need to be accosted while overpaying. read more

I saw a sign in their window that they did invisible weaving. They do not, they send it out to New York to be done. That is fine, but he threw out a ridiculous price which I was willing to pay because it was an expensive suit that I needed repaired. He said that he likes to be paid up front, the first sign of a scam. As I have seen in other reviews, the credit card machine was "down" and he was very quick to point out that there was an ATM machine downstairs that I could pay with cash, scam sign number two. I explained to him that he had two options, I either pay him with credit card up front, so I can be protected in the event that I do not see my suit again, or I can pay him in cash when the work is complete. He had said that an up-front cash payment was the only option and that he would provide me with a receipt. All that receipt would have been was proof that I was a sucker for the scam. I stuck to my offer and he told me that he could not help me and I left. I will happily find someone else to do business with. On top of all of this, he told me about another person in town that offers the same service and proceeded to tell me how terrible they were and that his people in New York did much better work. As a service provider myself, I make it a practice to never bad mouth my competition because it just looks bad and desperate. I took my suit to the woman he bad mouth and I had an excellent experience. Avoid this place unless you like giving away money. read more

In the last few months, Greg has altered four pairs of high-end jeans and completely restructured two men's suits (I lost a bunch of weight). He did a great job!! The suits were especially tricky. A lesser tailor would have told me to buy new ones as every seam needed to be touched. He basically hand made new suits from a labor standpoint. As the other reviews say, he is sometimes not there, and the staff are not equipped to do much, but he's easily reached by phone. The shop being open such long hours, even with a less than perfect staff is more than worth it. Love this guy. read more

Gregory saved the day for me! I had a bridesmaid dress crisis the night before the rehearsal dinner. The zipper on my dress had split into two different directions and i could not fix it myself without ripping the dress. I had originally gone to Tony the Tailor to do my alterations (do not go to him he is way overpriced). I had called Tony to ask him for help and he tried charing me $60 bucks just to fix a zipper. I got in an arguement with him and left in a panic. Luckily Gregory helped me out very last minute and was able to fix the zipper on my dress without replacing it! He had it ready for me to pick up before the rehearsal dinner and charged me $25. That's more than half of what Tony tried charging me when I had already paid the man $200 bucks to cut off an inch on the bottom of the dress and to take the bust in a little. I will always bring my alterations to Gregory from now on. He is a extremely helpful, polite and fair in prices. 5 stars for Gregory! read more

Gregory has had my suit jacket for 9 months now. He originally said it would take 2 weeks to repair a small hole in it. He repeatedly has lied about when it will be ready even leaving me a message saying it was on its way and he had a tracking number (which was over a month ago) and multiple times "swearing on his son" that he would have it to me in two days. I have no idea if he just lost or damaged it and won't admit it or where it is. All I know is he repeatedly has lied to my face. Do not trust him with your property. read more

Please take the time to read this. It is hard to believe how poor Gregory's service is. I dropped off a bridesmaids dress on June 11th. When I got to Gregory's there was a note saying I've stepped out call the number listed. I called because I was on my lunch break and wanted to get the dress dropped off. He said I will be right there I am less than 10 minutes away. Mistake #1, I waited for him and he showed up 23 minutes later. Already over promising and under delivering. He also wanted a down payment and the credit card machine "does not work". Standard business practice? After the fitting, he told me he would have the dress ready for the following Tuesday, June 16th. I told him the wedding is June 28th and Tuesday, June 23rd will be fine. I come by at lunch on Wednesday, June 24th and the dress had all the pins and had not even been touched. He apologized and said it would be ready by 5pm that day. At 4:50pm I call to make sure and he said they need more time 40 minutes? Okay man I told him I would come Thursday so they had time to finish it. Thursday comes, today!, and I show up at 5:10pm. The dress is being altered in front of me and he said it will only be 10 minutes. I waiting 45 minutes! I tried it on and it fit but I explained to Gregory how unsatisfied I was with how many times I had to come and the dress was never finished. He claims he is the best in Boston and didn't need my business after he took the full amount of $80 and did not apologize for the multiple inconveniences. Not even an apology when I sat for 45 minutes. After he got my $80 for the alteration he basically kicked me out and shut the door. The Best in Boston? If over promising, under delivering and being rude to customers is the best then he's it! read more

I went to this tailor because the other tailors around where I live were too busy to tailor a dress. When I first went in I thought it would be a great experience because he seemed to have a lot of business and was nice. Little did I know that it would be an awful experience. He told me to come in for a fitting the next day and kept pushing me to commit to come in early. I went in during my lunch break which is what we had agreed upon and he hadn't done anything to my dress. He said I could wait and it would take him five minutes. I politely told him that I couldn't just wait and that I would come back in the afternoon. I went back again about 4 hours later and my dress had been cut but nothing else. He told me wait and it would take him five minutes to finish the hem. An hour later of me sitting there he was finally done. I was so mad that he did this that I basically took the dress and left. He also likes to be paid in cash and I argued the price down because of the experience. I will never go back and wouldn't recommend this place. read more

Where do I begin...I am taller with a bigger frame, so the idea of buying a tailored shirts was very appealing. I met Gregory and had sort of a weird vibe about him. He assured me that I would be very pleased with the shirts even though they would be about $250 each. I agreed. I gave him half down in cash because the credit card machine was on the fritz. He said it would be two weeks. I didn't hear from him for about 15 days, so I called. He said, I got the materials in from NYC, I have started work on them. I will have them done by Friday (it was Monday). He said the materials are very expensive, it would have to be another $20. I hesitantly agreed. I called on Friday, he had a vague idea of who I was. He said the button maker was broken. The shirts will definitely be ready on Monday. I said, okay. Come Monday I came by and he said the shirts weren't ready, he was having a labor problem. I said, I think this isn't working out, I would just like a refund. He said he couldn't do it because the materials were already cut. I said, okay, so when are they going to be ready. He said, Friday, definitely. I came back on Friday and they weren't ready. He had nothing to show me. He said, he was working on them as we spoke (note he was just sitting in the back room having a coffee when I came in.) I once again said I want a refund. He said he will bring me my shirts to my house on Saturday. I said okay. Saturday came and he didn't show. He called and said he was having car problems. I said fine, as I didn't want him near my home because he was getting creepier by the second. He said I could pick them up on Monday. I said, okay, I will come by at noon. He said they will be ready. I came by at noon and one of the shirts was partially ready. He had it hanging up, but there were no buttons on it. He was still sitting around drinking coffee. I said, what is the hold up. He said, buttons only take a minute. I said, fine. I will come back at 5. I came back at five and both shirts were ready. One shirt came out reasonably well, except that the button holes were poorly done and it is difficult to button. The second shirt's sleeves were too short, collar was too small and had oil stains on it from his lunch. He begrudgingly said, oh sometimes the button hole machine leaves oils stains, they come right out...he still wanted me to pay for it. By my count, this guy lied to me 5 times, didn't give me what he promised and had overall poor quality control. If you have $500 extra dollars laying around, I recommend just throwing it in the trash rather than going to this guy. He is awful. read more

This started out as a convenient place to get my tailoring done, since I used to work in a building located across the street. Now that I work elsewhere, I still bring all of my alterations to Gregory. Like many people, clothes don't usually fit me perfectly right off the rack. My jeans, shirts, dress pants, and winter jackets look much better after Gregory tailors them for a perfect fit. I've had some pretty extensive modifications done to some of my shirts and jackets, and they all look flawless when he is done with them. You would never know that a tailor had taken his scissors to my clothes, as Gregory is careful to retain the original details on each garment. He doesn't take any shortcuts (like many fast-turnaround tailors). He really takes the time to reconstruct your clothes so that they look like they were designed for you. Gregory also makes custom shirts and suits, although I have never tried this service I'm sure it's great considering his eye for detail and symmetry. read more
