I feel badly about leaving this review, but alas I wanted to save others from a similar experience. Gregory is not honest, takes your money in advance, and does not deliver. He no longer has a shop, and so will come to you to pick up your items and deliver them back to you. He came to pick up 6 pants for hemming - a relatively simple job, which he promised to have back in 2 days. I agreed on his price - no negotiating - and I trusted him (that's on me!). 2, 3, 5 days, a week goes by - and I do not hear anything back from him. I text him on day 9 - and I honestly think he never got to any of my pants. He promises to drop them off the next day (day 10), which he does with the building concierge (as he does not keep the time he had promised even then, and I had to step out). When I check out the pants later, 2 are fine, 1 is done completely wrong, and 3 are not even touched - exactly as before. I text him respectfully with photos, letting him know that he might have forgotten to do 3 of the pants - no accusations, just a polite text (gave him the benefit of the doubt). No response, no resolution. He has the full $$ amount, and only did a third of the work. I'm now stuck having to look for another **honest** tailor to finish the job. My Fiancé and I left her brand new wedding dress with Gregory to have it tailored on July 2nd 2023. Gregory informed us that it would be ready by August 1st. On August 1st my Fiancé called Gregory to pick up her dress. Gregory informed my Fiancé that no work had commenced on the dress. She decided to retrieve her dress from the tailor and bring it else where. When we returned home and took the dress out of its bridal dress bag there were two blood stains on the dress. I immediately called Gregory and informed him of the stains. He denied all culpability, refused to pay for the cleaning of the dress and hung up the phone. I wouldn't touch this tailor. read more

DO NOT USE THIS TAILOR. I brought in my wedding dress for alterations and was told it would be ready in 2 weeks. Nearly 4 weeks later, he calls to tell me he needs me for a second fitting, the tailor he had working on the dress was not around or who knows. I showed up at the time we arranged and he was not there. He made some unintelligible excuses, word salad nonsensical blather, and asked if I could come another day. Make a long story short, the dress was never worked on, it was still pinned up, and he had no one to do the work. He stated the person who pinned the dress ( the helper who ditched him) was responsible to complete the work. I demanded he return the dress and my cash deposit, which he did. When I got home to examine the dress, there were blood stains on the train, obviously where the pins were. Also, his shop is a mess, a disgusting mess, I was terrified to leave my precious wedding dress there. My gut told me to run when I went into his shop and saw an old school oil can ( the ones you use to grease old sewing machines) teetering precariously on a pile of junk. DO NOT USE HIM. I am warning you now. He is a shady business man. And, ignore the credit card signs he has displayed, his CC machine is permanently "broken" so it is cash only. Red flag. BE WARNED. read more

Never again! I have never experienced a more unprofessional, rude, flaky, forgetful business owner in my entire life. We brought in seven suits to be tailored for a wedding. Gave him a date we needed them by and he assured us they would be ready (more than three weeks out). I called him that morning and he told me they were finished and I could pick them up that afternoon. I stop in after work and he hasn't even started them. They are still sitting on the same rack where we left them 25 days earlier. He assured me they would still be done by the next day (three days before the wedding). I stop in two days later and he isn't even halfway done. When all was said and done, I had to delay my departure until the morning of the wedding and the suits still weren't pressed. They stink like cigars and he overcharged us by over $600 compared with what was quoted. He might do good work, but there are plenty of other tailors in Boston who do good work and won't rip you off and can actually meet a deadline. Stay as far away from this guy as you can! My dress was 160 for the hem and the bottom looks like someone cut it with scissors it is completely jagged and the layers are not the same length and I was charged 160 dollars. In addition the dress smells horrible - super musty with a cigarette smoke smell. In addition coordinating pick up and drop off was chaotic and unprofessional - Gregory did not show up for the coordinated time the first day (I had to then call him he did not say anything to me). The next day he showed up 3 hours after he said he would before I had to rush to the airport. He also initially said the dress was 120 but then upon arrival said it was 160. Do not use this service there are many better ones out there (or just get a pair of scissors and cut off fabric yourself). read more

He came to my apartment to pin and pick up the items, and brought them back when he finished. Would definitely recommend Gregory to friends and family! read more

Smelled like cigars and lousy work not done in the time frame given, had a ridiculous time getting my dress back

I will never go back to Gregory again, and I am telling anyone who will listen to find someone else. Brought a blazer to him to be taken in, he took about 30 seconds to measure it and mark it off and said he was all set, quoted me $150. Seemed a bit steep but I figured why not. Came back two weeks later after he pushed back my pickup date two days in a row; I showed up at 5:00 on a Friday and he was running the blazer through the sewing machine and made me wait 30 minutes... sure seemed as though he put it off or had forgotten about it and rushed through to finish it. I tried the blazer on and it still didn't seem to fit that well. He said to take it home and see how it fit as I was trying to wear it for an event over the weekend, and if it needed more adjustment he would fix it at no cost. I paid him the $150 and took it home. It didn't really fit well at all, so I came back. He told me that because of how the blazer was constructed and the material/weave, he needed to do more detailed work to make it fit, and that it would cost an additional $80. He's the expert here so I'm not necessarily doubting the logic, but it sure seems to me that if he took a closer look at the outset he could have recognized this and told me. I was pot-committed at this point, but if I knew up front that he was going to charge $230 to take in a blazer (and take almost a month to do it), I would have went somewhere else. In addition to fixing the fit, he said he would take in the sleeves as they were too wide/loose. Came back in another two weeks later after calling him (every interaction during this experience was me chasing after him, he never called me to give any updates and several times kept me waiting at his office when he showed up 20+ minutes later than he said he would), and the blazer fit better but he didn't do the sleeves! Said that he forgot and I could leave it with him and he'd do it in another day or two. Finally got it back today and asked for some consideration on the balance I owed him given all of the issues - he gave me $20 off... great. While the fit is better and the work seems good, if he told me the first time we met that he was going to charge me $230 to take in a blazer and take a month to do it, which included me coming to his shop 4-5 separate times, I would have never agreed to it. If I'm paying full high-end price, I expect a quality of workmanship and service that aligns with that. He does not come close to providing it. Bottom line, the work is alright, but the service is awful. Will never go back. read more

I went to Gregory to have a bridesmaid dress tailored three weeks before the wedding, and he assured me it would be done in less than a week. I then attempted to pick up on three different days at 10am, 11am, and 12pm that following week (during his open hours) and each time he was not there--when I called, he assured me my dress was done but that his posted hours were correct. I finally managed to catch him in his shop two weeks after dropping off my dress, only to find that he had not even started alterations. He then assured me he'd get it done by the following day. I showed up three days later (T-4 days to the wedding), and yet AGAIN he had forgotten to start alterations on my dress and I was completely out of time to find a new tailor. He turned around the alterations that afternoon, and still charged me full price (way pricier than other tailors I've used) to take in and shorten the dress. Despite my trying it on originally with my heels he made it an inch too short, which now I can do nothing about. Words can't describe what a fraud Greg is (as in Leonardo DiCaprio in Aviator ). This guy told me my sweater would be done on Friday November 11. Today is 11/22. He has dodged me for almost 2 weeks by lying to me and promising me. He told me today that he would deliver it to my office building at 1 pm. He would call me when he arrived. He never called or showed. I called him and texted him 8 times- he never replied. Finally I went to the tiny dark room in the gym on federal st. He wasn't there. Work on my jacket, which I was told would be finished in two weeks, was not done over three months later, and in fact was never fully done. I was never called about the status of the work. I was lied to several times about when the work would be finished. I demanded the return of my jacket twice in person and was refused each time. In the end, I was able to get my jacket back only by threatening to sue for triple damages, at which point Gregory finally returned my jacket; to his credit, he refunded my deposit in full and actually did some of the requested work, albeit with mediocre quality. Dress came out perfect, but I won't be going back. I feel bad giving a bad review, but I literally came into this store to check on my dress more than I plan on for my wedding dress! (We're talking more than 7 times) The dress was literally there for a month. I wonder if i had said "rush" maybe it would have mattered. But it didn't make me want to get anything else brought in there, especially if I had a time commitment at all. It cost $90 to get a size 10 dress with an empire waist into a size 6 dress. I had a couple pair of dress trousers hemmed to perfection, and then had more challenging request to shorten some jeans but wanted to retain the original fnished bottom of the jean, and Gregory did a fantastic job - they look like they were never altered! I searched for a tailor to take on a complex tailoring project on expensive clothing. I came across Gregory's Fine Tailoring after reading some reviews on Yelp and other review sites. I visited Greg's shop near Downtown Crossing and was impressed with the amount of time that Greg spent with me talking through options for accomplishing this complex effort. After we agreed upon an approach, Greg assured me that the quality of the workmanship would be high. Upon retrieving my clothing, I tried them on in Greg's shop. They fit perfectly. Further inspection of the workmanship reveals that the stitching is as good, or better than when I purchased the clothes new in the store. I'd also add that it took more effort to complete the project than initially thought, however, Greg kept his promise to perform the work for the original quoted price. I have to go out to LA for a gala tomorrow and the zipper of my dress appeared to have broken, so I brought it into work to find a tailor and the first one looked at it and said I had to replace the zipper and all they had were plastic ones. I came into my office and a girl I work with told me to call Gregory, he told me to come over and he could replace the zipper that day for me. I brought the dress and the zipper and he looked at it and came back with pliers and some soap and fixed it right there in 5 minutes for free. He was so nice and just knew looking at it it was an easy fix, the other place was going to take out my metal zipper and put in a plastic one. Consistently does great work. Is quick to fix in an emergency- always comes out great. I have had bridesmaid dresses, floor length gowns, suiting and cocktail dresses hemmed and tailored by Gregory. It feels a bit disorganized when you walk in because you do not always walk out with paperwork, but he manages to get everything done and everything done well. He was recommended to me by a colleague and now the whole office is going to him. His enthusiasm for his job shows and he is great at what he does. read more

My boyfriend spilled coffee on his dress shirt and he needed a shirt for a party we were going to in an hour. I was able to buy him a nice dress shirt in downtown crossing but then I couldn't find a dry cleaner or tailor shop anywhere close by who could press the shirt while I waited. Luckily, I stumbled upon Gregory's Fine Tailoring which is located on the 2nd floor of 76 Summer Street (just down the street from Macy's). I walked in and Gregory not only pressed the shirt for free, he also gave me a free bottled water and told me to have a seat and watch tv while I waited. He was extremely nice and came to my rescue when I was in a bind. The shop is very professional looking and from what I was able to see of his work, he does a fantastic job. I've been coming here for quite a while. He is always open, both early and late which is very convenient. Gregory, himself, is very nice. Actually being in the shop is another issue though. He's often not there and leaves completely incapable people there. People who don't do tailoring, can't take measurements, and can't find your clothes if you go to pick them up. My last 2 pants that I had hemmed: 1 pair they were hemmed unevenly, the other were too short. He's very willing to correct mistakes but its not really convenient. I've tried to pick up the other pair 4 times, he is never there, and the people he leaves there can't find them. This morning I went to have another pair hemmed. he was not there. The man he left there said he might be back in 20 minutes. I was extremely frustrated, and told this man this, b/c this keeps happening there, at which point he started yelling at me. Very frustrating. Only giving 2 stars because he does good work, but you must call before you pick up. Otherwise he'll never do the work. Also he publishes hours for Saturday but leaves a note on the door with a cell number that says he stepped out, and if you call he is 1/2 hour away. I could go on and on. Also did elbow patches that didn't match. Cash only but alleges his credit card swiped isn't working. Doubt that. His good work is not worth the waiting and frustration. Promised to have my dress altered by a certain time which was important to me since I needed it for a wedding in Europe. When I went 2 days after the arranged date to pick it up it he could not find it... I then saw it myself: it was still lying on the counter under a pile of other clothes and was now completely wrinkled. He then promised to deliver the next day which did not happen either. First of all, Gregory has never called me with status updates. I've initiated every contact in this matter. Unprofessional. That the fabric was back ordered was the excuse I got around when the shirts were a week late, back in August. The latest excuse is that the fabric arrived and the shirts are complete, but that the cleaners lost the shirts. This dates back to late September. My last contact with Gregory was when he hung up on me in mid October, when I demanded a refund that had been promised to me for weeks. He has never sent me the suit shirt and tie.He lies daily,weekly,monthly that he sent the suit Fedex but has no tracking number to confirm.I never received anything for $850 that I paid.I live in Arizona and he assured me that in 2-4 weeks the suit shirt and tie would be completed and sent to me.He is a liar,thief,cheat,disgrace to his ancestry.AVOID THIS TAILOR AND STORE..I await the BBB and Attorney General's office assistance in this matter.GREGORY IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED!!!!! read more

I recently had a few pairs of pants that need to be repaired and re hemmed. I was also in the market for a suit. I found Greg in downtown crossing, this was good as i live and work in the area. I was immediately greeted by Greg, and was impressed by his knowledge and his desire to make sure i was getting what i needed from him... I felt so comfortable with him that i asked him to show me some silk fabric as I was looking for something special for my daughters upcoming wedding. Greg measured me...(it was done with precision) we settled on the fabric, the price ( very competitive, especially for a custom made suit) we agreed on a delivery date and fitting date. 2 weeks later i returned, Greg was ready with my suit and surprised me with a beautiful dress shirt that he threw in. the suit was killer, the fit was awesome, and I was happy. i came back for my suit 3 days later and I was even happier. I have read other reviews about Greg not being there or not having items done on time.. I needed to get two suits tailored that I had bought at the Hugo Boss outlets. I was hesitant to come here due to the somewhat neutral Yelp reviews but glad I did. Gregory helped hem the pants and shorten the sleeves of the suit jacket. Took him just a few days to do the job and everything looked great when I picked it up. Price was fair for downtown Boston and I will definitely be going back to him for any future alterations/tailoring. read more
