Stopped by this place because it looked very cute outside and inside but all of the drinks I tried were all a bit off - got the smashing pumpkin cold brew which tasted too cinnamon-y and medicine-y, the Nutella one was odd as well and the flower cold brew was also interesting tasting. Not sure if it's just their flavors but judging on just the cold brew drinks I would not come again especially for the price and the taste not matching up to the price. I did however want to applaud them for having a variety in their menu especially for those that are vegan, but their burrito also looked quite sad and small for $6 as well. I needed some caffeine after walking around all day, so I stopped here for a matcha latte. The cafe is really cute and modern, and it has a lot of greenery/plants. The seating is limited but cute (although I came around 4pm on a Saturday and there's tons of seating available) I got a medium and it was $5.75, so pretty standard price for the area. I thought it was good, I liked that it wasn't sweet. Only thing I didn't like was the only milk option was almond milk. Now I love almond milk, just not in my lattes because it adds a funky taste in my opinion. The barista was really nice and my latte came out in like 1-2 minutes! read more

The vibes of this place were very cute. There's a lot of space in this shop to sit down and eat or study and work. The menu in store is pretty different than what's online which caused a bit of confusion. Their drinks are on the pricey side. I enjoyed my Dirty Chai but didn't taste much espresso (I wished I asked how many shots of espresso would be included). Overall it's a nice spot to check out on your next coffee break. read more

Cute modern coffee shop in Penn Quarter. I got the hot chocolate which is actually HOT, hallelujah!!! There were a lot of intriguing drinks on the menu that I would have loved to try but they were sadly just way too expensive. $7-8 for a speciality drink is high even for DC! But my $3.80 hot chocolate hit the spot on a rainy afternoon. There's plenty of seating for both coffee catch ups and those (like me) looking to do work. We came here back in October. I wanted the smashing pumpkin but they were out, so I tried the iced fall instead and Isabel got the NuBrew. Not bad for a late night coffee drink...Gregory's had a decent crowd for a Sunday evening...I stopped in for a quick cortado to get me going....there are plenty of milk alternatives and ample drinks to order from but I kept it basics...a quick Apple Pay and my drink was prepared. Great location - a quick little walk from the SAAM. Needed some coffee after a long day and stumbled upon this convenient location. Inside is modern and clean with multiple spots available for seating. The menu is a little scarce but still had different options to choose from. They had lots of vegan options which was wonderful! The pastry case looked a lot like Starbucks and I even had a chocolate croissant like I do when I go to the rival coffee shop. Unfortunately, the croissant tasted a bit doughy and underbaked. I'm unaware if that is how it is suppose to be or not as different places do different things. But, just wasn't my cup of tea! I still finished it though! My mother enjoyed the banana nut bread and said it was delicious. I also got an iced caramel macchiato to pair with my croissant and it was pretty good as well - nothing out of this world, but better than Starbucks. Wasn't expecting the little grains of caramel, but it didn't bother me. The service was decent - not too friendly but they did their best. Was in DC and happened upon this coffee shop. I love trying new coffee places. It was late afternoon so I didn't get a large but the Flower Power cold brew caught my eye and I had to try it. Dang, was it good. Cold brew coffee with Lavender, Honey and almond milk. I wasn't sure if I would like it but I was very pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Service was excellent and speedy although the menu options were limited because it was just before closing. The shop was clean, cozy and orderly. There were a few patrons on laptops scattered about as you would expect in a coffee shop. I would definitely recommend you try it next time you are in the neighborhood. read more

With the pandemic forcing people and business back into a winter "2020" posture, I am very worried about the effect on local businesses. In support of our locals, I stopped off at Gregory's in Penn Quarter. Clean design ethic, with an amazing charitable mission of providing glasses to those in need for every bag of coffee purchased. I was planning on getting a simple black coffee but was greeted so warmly by the amazing staff, I changed my mind. I am about half way through my Fall Oat Boy (tastes like a hot glass of French toast) and vegan burrito (only 248 calories, really?) and I cannot believe I haven't been coming here. First time trying this spot. I didnt like it. I wanted the Hall and Oats but was out of it. So i went for my second choice of the Honey Badger. Taste was not good at all. Tasted like old or perhaps burnt coffee. My cousin had the hohomocha and didnt like his either. We both eventually just trashed our drinks. Not to mention the service was a bit chaotic. Will go back only if given a gift card. I like the variety and combination of drinks and really want this place to be a place i can frequent versus always depending on a starbucks. read more

They promised I'd get a refund in the next 2 business days. 6/25/24 follow up: per my bank account, they TRIPLE charged me for a simple glass of OJ. First they double charged me, then when I pointed out the error, instead of reversing the duplicate charge, they charged me again. My glass of OJ & a slice of banana nut loaf cost me $17.85. Came here for the first time a few days ago and got an Iced Matcha Latte with oat milk, which I really enjoyed. I much preferred it over Starbucks' matcha, which is extremely sweet. The interior of the store was also very aesthetic. Overall, the price point is decent until you start making modifications to your order (e.g., extra shots or milk substitution)--then it starts to get pricey. This place is definitely aesthetically pleasing and super trendy. My gripes with this place is the unclarity that I had as a first timer to what the menu options were and where my food was going to be after I ordered. The staff wasn't much help in that regard and it may have been because of how busy they were during the Open Street event. The food is similar to Starbucks in the fact that it didn't have much flavor to it. I know people want an alternative places to enjoy there coffee, but for me I'll just stick to what I know in Starbucks. I absolutely love coffee and visiting coffees shops! When I walked by this coffee shop it looked super interesting and like something I wanted to try. Unfortunately, when I walked in the hospitality and customer service wasn't that great. I mentioned it was it was my first time there. The lady was like no worries take ur time our menu can be overwhelming with all the choices. I asked for a coffee recommendations and she had one or two recommendations. Her personal preference was a plain latte she said. She finally took our order. We ordered a couple of pastries and didn't give us the option to warm the bread up. I noticed after our pastry was dry and cold. My sister wasn't happy with her americano or customer service said she'll forever be a Starbucks customer instead due to the consistent customer service and americano recipe. One minute before closing I wanted to order a couple of more drinks. As I walked up to the register the gentleman with the dread locks was eating by the register and he asked me what I wanted and apparently they started cleaning the machines before they were actually closed. So they told me they couldn't make my drink after already giving them business which apparently didn't matter. I asked for a manager business card and they said they didn't have one. One of the boys gave me the email while the guy in the dreadlocks laughed and the girl working started cleaning and turned away. My family and I noticed the manner they greeted customer and it wasn't very pleasing. Very unwelcoming and rude. Making snarky faces. I'm sure the owner would not accept this behavior. I would not revisit this location at all. And If possible would like a refund. Very unsatisfactory. read more

After leaving Carmine's, I decided to grab something from Gregorys coffee. First time there, had not a clue what I wanted. The only thing I didn't care for was the screen on the monitor continued to change and the menu wouldn't appear. It left me waiting for about 1-2 minutes in between. I ordered Organic Mint Green tea. I should've asked for sweetener because it wasn't sweet. I saved it for work the next day and will add sweetener. Not a bad place, will eventually return. my partner and i stumbled into this coffee shop when we were in downtown DC to go to the paramore concert, and it was probably the best decision i've ever made in my life. i love coffee and i drink a lot of it...so i think i know a thing or two about it. the shop was super clean and the people running the shop were super nice and inviting! the salted caramel cold brew, the star of the show. i've never had such a perfect cup of cold coffee in my life.. until now. i don't know how to explain the richness and the flavors all working in harmony...you'll just have to experience this for yourself. i also got the vegan burrito one morning and i got the vegan BEC the next and you couldn't even TELL it was vegan with the amount of flavors and textures. i was super happy that i tried both of those hot foods out. i would travel back to DC just for this cup of coffee....and that's saying a lot. read more

Sometimes I stop by after an early dinner to grab a cookie and coffee and the employees have already packed away all the food items and won't pull anything out. This is an hour before closing. I never have an issue getting both a food item and a coffee at Starbucks but at Gregory's it's a rare thing. I do not understand their business because they don't seem to want my money. read more

I was excited when this new location in DC opened up. I had previously been to the ones in Farragut North area and up in New York. I go out of my way to sometimes get coffee here as I work by Union Station (10-15 min walk). I want to give a shout out to Sakiynah who always greets me and provides a friendly smile, no matter how my day might be going. As someone who was a corporate barista for 12 years, this means a lot and just shows that in this divisive world we are living in, a little kindness goes a long way. Also, I love the way the coffee is roasted at Gregory's because I get flavor notes and don't burn my mouth. An occasional treat is always in store with the Smashing Pumpkin or Hall and Oats, when I feel like splurging in the land of $6 Oat milk beverages. They might be pricey but worth it as I can tell they are not processed. Plus, the app makes it almost too easy to order with the QR code and love the branding. Gregory's is doing it right. Terrible service. Mocha tasted awful, muffins tasted stale. The girl at the counter did not get food order right and blamed it on customer not speaking loud enough even though she had to change her order because the coffee shop was out of what she originally ordered. So how is it she heard the first time but not the second item? Also, did not get a receipt and the girl was argumentative. When I asked for a manager I was told he was in the restroom. Ten minutes later I asked them to tell the manager that he had a customer waiting and the girl said he was in the restroom and if she should hurry him and I said yes. When she returned, she said the manager had stepped out to get some supplies. Will never return, the management and staff are both just as bad. read more

They have very nice coffee here and a very good chai latte, although it is on the pricey side in my opinion. I am happy that they use compostable straws as well, but did not see any recycling bins for their other recyclable items (which would be good to have).
