I almost hesitate to publish this, because of that "great restaurant"-Yelp-phenomenon: you don't want to let everyone know how awesome it is, because then you can't get yourself an appointment in a month's time ... But, really, I can't sing enough high praise for Greg. The best analogy I can think of, awkward as it is, is that he's like the perfect boyfriend: he understands your body (and its limits), he's really responsive, and going to see him makes you relax and feel better overall, both emotionally and physically. I was tense and stressed. I needed a massage. I called him, saw his special promotion (he's donating $10 of every massage profit to Haiti!), and scheduled for the afternoon. Greg has a great way of sensing your needs and limitations, as previous reviews have noted. He gave me a massage that was simultaneously relaxing with just the right amount of "feel-good" pain that many massage clients crave. Greg's extremely open and honest. He tells you of exercises and habits that might make your posture and activity better over time, reducing the need for his massages. He knows bodies really well: he asked whether I had been a dancer, which was completely correct. Greg is also a great conversationalist. I've never been the type to strike up conversations with the hairdresser or the manicurist, and honestly, I thought it might be awkward to talk when someone's giving you a massage - but Greg keeps the conversations professional, light, funny, and insightful. If anything, the conversation made the massage even more enjoyable, and is another definite reason I'm more than willing to come back here for another massage soon! We ended up going overtime (I suspect because Greg loves his job - neither of us was watching the clock), but Greg was very chill and didn't rush out even when he noticed the time. As for me, I wish I had more cash to pay for the extra time, but could only shell out all I had in my wallet (minus the cash I needed for dinner). So all in all, I think this was my best massage ever (although admittedly I haven't gotten many - budget constraints of being a student), and definitely did more than I could have ever expected from it. Still having doubts? I met Greg at Harvard Square Mayfair last year. I'm pretty careful with money (I need to be, as a student) so it seemed like a fair thing to do to try the $1/minute massage, as awkward as that is in front of crowds of passer-bys. It sold me immediately - seriously, if you have doubts, you should try it! While massages in general tend to be expensive, Greg often has promotions and always has student / service worker / other discounts. Definitely look into that. Go. Seriously. I'm only giving it 3 stars because it was not what I expected and Greg is not for everyone. This is not the relaxing, soothing spa experience with candles and aroma therapy. I kind of got that idea when I was told to wear shorts and a sports bra to my session. Now granted, I'm an athlete and I was training for a half marathon when I went in to see Greg, but I still expected some amount of relaxing massage. It wound up being more like a personal training session. Greg showed me some great stretches and really got my muscles worked out deep down. The stretches he had me do (yes, you are standing up and doing the stretches on your own for the most part - again, more personal training than massage) were really helpful and much needed. That being said, I don't usually expect to break a sweat during a massage. This honestly was more of a personal training session, or maybe even generalized physical therapy for your entire body. Greg prides himself on the fact that a lot of his clients are runners - marathoners, half marathoners, whatever - and his services are particularly tailored to that group. His therapy is meant to help your running improve and make you kill your old PRs. Considering the fact that I had never run a race and was gearing up for my first race/half marathon ever, that really wasn't that big of a deal for me. My concerns were focused on finishing the race at all. I went in for my session about 2 or 3 weeks before the race (I think), just to try to see if I could give my muscles or anything a boost in the final weeks of training. I honestly cannot say if it made a difference overall. I do still use some of the stretches he showed me though. So anyways, know what you're getting into here. The service Greg provides is definitely great, but before you schedule an appointment, or get a buywithme (like I did), be sure it's the "massage" you're really looking for. Otherwise you'll wind up like me - stretched out and feeling better overall from the session, but not relaxed and contented and spa-ified like you would be from a regular massage at a more typical salon/spa. read more

Had a livingsocial deal for him, and would have to agree with the others, that Greg did a fantastic job and really knew where all my various knots and tensions were. It was different from other massages I've had too, as he does more stretching, which was actually nice (note, I've never had a sports massage before, I went in thinking it'd be more of a deep tissue massage). I had to take off a star though as it was quite the effort to get my appt actually scheduled - he doesnt always respond to emails or voicemails, or else he responds several days later (i.e., he may finally get back to you to say he's free anytime Sunday...you reply immediately with a time, then several days later he replies back to say that he's no longer available for the time you mentioned). I have had very very very bad pain in my back and I am telling you, Gregory somehow managed to get it to go away....in 90 minutes. Yes, it's true! I am sold on Gregory as being my massage therapist. I noticed the excellent Yelp reviews for him, so decided to call him up one day and he was able to see me right after work. I felt so calm, relaxed, and stress free when I left. I've been happily going to Greg for some years now. I started when I was first offered a free massage when he was still in school. I've stuck with him ever since. Besides the great work he does on the body, Greg is a great listener and offers tremendous advice on taking care of your aches and pains, diet and nutrition and peace of mind. I meant to write this review a while ago but never got around to it. I was able to get an appointment fairly easily and his office wasn't too difficult to get to. Gregory was very thorough and took a health history before he started the massage. I get neck/shoulder pain every now and then and I asked Greg to focus on that area. He began with a few stretches which were pretty amazing. He focused on the area like I had asked him to but I felt like he didn't spend enough time really working through it and the pressure was too light. I should have mentioned it to him at the time but I didn't. He recommended some posture correction and even gave me a paper that outlined better positions to sit in while working on the computer for long hours. He was interested in overall wellness as opposed to just giving you a massage. Definitely a refreshing change! read more

Greg loves what he does and it is evident as you love what he does to you. He is informed, open & concerned with the well being of his clients. It is fun to have someone work on your body that is really intune with your body. I like how he tries new things like fascia stretching and other stretching techniques. It also feels so good to have him work your body into the thai yoga body work postures. His pressure is perfect and he is in synch with what your body needs & can tolerate. I've had a lot of massages and I am really really picky. I heartily recommend this particular masseur. I am pretty sure he does 20$ off of the first massage so ask about that! read more

In the past, I have had massages from many different people in different cities, and his massage was the first time I felt that my actual problem was addressed and resolved. Went to Gregory for the first time in need of treatment for tightness in my quads, psoas and piriformis from running. Glad I did; Greg takes an intelligent and well-rounded approach. This is a place to come to if you have postural and other alignment issues caused by muscle imbalance. I wouldn't come here expecting a spa-like massage. Instead, Greg offers a multidisciplinary approach including partner work. Having many back issues such as scoliosis and being a dancer I get massages a lot. Most of the time I feel unsatisfied. That is until I saw Greg. I highly recommend Gregory Beale! I suffer from fibromyalgia with chronic back pain. Within an hour session, the chronic pain and knots were all worked out.
