The food was very tasty but not as hot as it should have been, which makes me wonder how long it was sitting in the 'window' before served to us. A hidden gem, delicious authentic Italian restaurant. LOVE the complimentary Garlic Knots! Went to the Potomac location first and been back to the original Reston location twice! For Valentine's Day, each table had fresh cut red and white roses, a nice touch! The Eggplant Parm entree with side of spaghetti is delicious! The fried eggplant is juicy and tender, and not oily. The spaghetti pairs well with the eggplant Parm and prefer the Eggplant Parm entree over the sandwich (loved the steak fries)!) The distribution of eggplant and cheese was a bit off (the cheese was off to the side) and the sandwich was a bit dry (I understand if there was more sauce, it would be soggy). The Eggplant Parm entree just hits the spot! Hubby enjoyed his Pollo Donaldo with 1/2 chicken, mashed potatoes, and grilled asparagus. Everything was fresh and on point. I'll get right to the point. This food was NOT good. Everything from the pasta being severely overcooked to each of the pasta dishes being flavorless ... the scampi literally has not a whisper of garlic, butter, wine or salt. And the broccolini had a very weird scent and taste. Oh and breadsticks were dry dry dry and dense dense dense without an ounce of a dipping sauce to accompany them. The service was horrible. The restaurant was not at all busy but we had to flag down our server to order and later to get drink refills and the bill. He was very pleasant once we got his attention but he always seem to be rushing by our table to go somewhere else. There was literally only three other tables with people in the entire restaurant and we spent almost 3 hours for dinner and 2 drinks. My eggplant parmegion was mediocre. Under the sauce and cheese was what I would call thin slices of fried bread. I guess there was eggplant there but couldn't see ir taste it. I appreciate that I was able to swap out the spaghetti side for steamed spinach which was flavorful. I won't be returning. read more

I had heard a lot about this awesome Italian restaurant in Reston called Gregorio's Trattoria. After almost 20 months of being part time in McLean and Reston finally got a chance to experience this five star evening. Everything was spot on with a few more awesome positives: A) First and foremost our wonderful server Jamie was outstanding. Fun, spunky - he took our order by memory, amazingly handled a table of 27 seniors next to us with class( they all wanted separate checks), Took great care of us! The best. B) The food was stellar - comp garlic knots and marinara were solid; the linguine Pomodoro was perfect - Al dente, asked for extra sauce got extra extra sauce - thanks Jamie; my friends loved their veggie pasta and Veal Marsala. The tiramisu was fresh and scream worthy( they heard me in DC), the lemon cake divine and the cheesecake smooth and gorgeous; hot and fresh coffee to top all off. The pizza on the next table looked absolutely scrumptious. C) We were seated promptly by the smiling and nice John Paul. The staff worked well as a team to ensure the flow in the dining room which filled up fast between 5:30 and 6:00 pm. D) Had no idea how big the restaurant was upon entry. It is long and has a private dining area in the back. The decor is nice and we sat by a photo of a small town on the Amalfi Coast. E) The prices for the portions and the service we got were great. Food is good but overpriced for a shopping center Italian joint. The same bottles of wine they are selling in the entryway are marked up 2x the price on the menu. Our server was kind and accommodating and the drinks were good. I would be interested in sitting at their bar area; however, I would prefer a more scenic location for just grabbing drinks. We always enjoy dining at Gregorio's. The great aromas when you first walk in are a sign of good things to come. The staff welcomes us and they are always attentive. We visited last weekend and, as always, began with drinks and the delicious garlic knots. We munched happily while we perused the lengthy menu. Hubs chose the rigatoni and sausage. I began with a small, very flavorful, house salad. Crisp mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices & just enough shredded carrots to add texture. For my entree I chose cheese ravioli. The "pillows" were perfectly stuffed and the cheese filling was tasty without being too rich. An almost perfect meal except the tomato sauce on both our entrees was too salty. We've never had that problem at this restaurant before, so we're hoping it was a one time mishap in the kitchen rather than a change in the sauce recipe. The 4 instead of 5 stars is due to the salt issue. Hoping someone from the restaurant will confirm that it was a simple mistake and not a new way they've decided to make the otherwise delicious sauce. read more

I've had several great experiences with Gregorio's in Reston. I've ordered large pizza orders for big occasions at work and my colleagues had become big fans. I'm kind of a big pizza snob from the New York Metro area, and this is one of the best local spots and mini-chains in the DMV. Big foldable slices from 18 inch pies, crispy crust, sauce not too sweet, great cheese coverage...Amirite? Shout out to Ted the GM who is easy to work with on small and large orders. Manager was very nice and helpful! But service is horrible. After finishing my initial glass of water, I had to ask three times for a refill and was eventually told, "I'm busy, so I'll bring a pitcher" (pictured). I ordered calamari, BBQ chicken pizza, margherita pizza, and shrimp scampi. The shrimp scampi was bland, so I had to send it back. The margherita pizza was overly salty--about a 4/10. The BBQ chicken pizza seemed to be just a cheese pizza with a drizzle of BBQ sauce. To top it off, dinner ended with a ROCH crawling on my boot. It was perfectly cooked, ready when they said it would be ready, and delicious! Thanks, Gregorio's! The ambiance was calm. It was a sit down restaurant, mini food store, and it had a bar area as well. I ordered the meatball sub and The meatball tasted more like a sausage. The restaurant has very nice style and a good vibe. Very attentive and caring servers/management. The bread? Outstanding. It's the kind of bread that makes you forget about the rest of the meal. I'd go back for just the bread alone. Onto the rest of the meal, I got the spaghetti Ragu. Honestly the sauce for the bread outshined the sauce for the spaghetti, it could have used something like diced tomatoes to reach that level of... "Bellissimo". I do not post many reviews, and very few negative ones. I know the restaurant business is difficult, and hard work. But our dinner at Gregorio's was so bad that I feel compelled. Given the majority of the reviews here, the ineptitude and lack of professionalism this establishment displayed stunned me. First, the acceptable. The garlic knots were good. The shrimp scampi pasta was fine. The penne vodka flavor was fine (even though the texture suffered mightily from sitting under a heat lamp for ca 20 minutes while a "mishap" was being corrected with the rest of our order). Our server was friendly, and apologetic as the dinner descended. The restaurant is attractive and comfortable. The bathrooms were clean. Here is the not so fine. The restaurant was nearly empty at 6:45 on a Saturday night. Despite that, the kitchen seemed unable to produce food. It took ca 15 minutes for the mozzarella sticks appetizer to come out. $16.99 for four small breaded mozzarella sticks and some cold marinara sauce. The salad came next--the caesar dressing was fine, but the lettuce was limp and soaked as if had been sitting for a while. We ordered a 14" New York style cheese pizza. The only thing that prevents calling this "New York style pizza" from being false advertising is that Riker's Island Prison is in New York, and they sometimes serve pizza instead of nutraloaf. The pizza came in an aluminum foil tray on top of the normal pizza tray, was cut into extremely irregular sizes, and most pieces were not cut thru. We had to ask the server to take it out of the aluminum tray to even get it on a plate. The taste was somewhere between Tombstone and Red Baron. (Oddly enough, the only other family in the restaurant had a pizza that looked fine.) Twenty minutes and two excuses later, we were served two entrees--the penne vodka and shrimp scampi pasta described above. It took a full 15 minutes for the final entree to appear, so one of our party had to sit without food while the others ate before theirs got cold. The missing entree was supposed to be Spaghetti con Polpette, which translates to Spaghetti with Meatballs ($20.99). There were no meatballs. Someone from the kitchen delivered the dish, and escaped before we finished the search for the meatballs. When our server came by, we told him to take it back and take it off our bill. We wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. He returned and said the manager apologized, took the dish off of the bill, and gave us a 15% discount. So that paid for the four overpriced mozzarella sticks. The server also offered us free desserts, which we declined. All fine, but in no way fixed a ruined birthday dinner, especially for out of town family we do not see often enough. I felt sorry for the server, as he was put in a very awkward situation. The restaurant was nearly empty. The manager should have come themselves. If the manager had come by, I would have given them this feedback in person, but since they did not, I am leaving it here. read more

Ordered spaghetti bolognese. I thought they must've given me the wrong order. What came was a bowl of what looked like orange tomato cream soup drowning pasta, and bits of veal. How they could screw up such a simple dish, I have no idea, but my guess that they tried to be sophisticated, and failed miserably. Ordered bruschetta. The toast stuck out of a tall mound of the usual ingredients like a tower of nachos. Same reason, I guess. Main course and appetizers arrived together. I told my wife I wouldn't give it 1 star unless I got food poisoning, but I changed my mind. Redo your whole menu, and keep it simple. Hire an Italian grandmother to taste it. Visit Italy. Went here for my birthday dinner. They provide garlic bites with marinara dipping sauce for the table which was nice but the bread was a tad dry. Food was great - we had the bruschetta (excellent), cheese and spinach manicotti, side of meatballs, and the pollo francese. Service was excellent and food came out very fast. Great ambiance for a small restaurant. Price was more than fair for the quality of food. It was very filling - we couldn't finish everything and had to take leftovers home.
