Crispy potato puffs & fried chicken filet sandwich
    Emily W.

Cashier was super friendly. A few outdoor benches for seating. Ordered the fried chicken filet sandwich and crispy potato puffs. The fried chicken sandwich was pretty good, and the spicy coleslaw was a nice touch (note that it's barely spicy). It had slightly messy presentation though and everything fell apart easily while eating, and it would've been better if the French roll were slightly toasted in my opinion. Chicken was also on the dry and stringy side. Crispy potato puffs were tasty, unique, and I enjoyed the dipping sauce it came with. These are pretty dense though and basically fried mashed potato balls and I was only able to eat a couple.

My friend and I had a delicious lunch at Gregoire! We shared an order of the potato puffs, which were delightful. We each ordered a salad, which was fresh, flavorful, and substantial. Despite the delicious salad, I think I'd try a sandwich next time (they looked so good!). There are a couple picnic tables to eat at, but otherwise there isn't much seating. FYI no bathroom. All in all, Gregoire was a solid lunch spot. Ideal for a sunny day in North Berkeley!

Contrast to my prior review, this experience was much better and evenly salted! Each potato puff was consistently crispy and soft potato goodness inside. The spiced lamb patty sandwich was pretty unique flavor too. There was good balance in the flavors and the bread tasted fresh too. As a potato fan, this is one of my go to potato place when I'm in the area!

Stopped by for a quick early lunch on the weekend and was lucky enough to snag a picnic table right outside. We ordered via the kiosk inside. We got their fried chicken sandwich and potato puffs with garlic and parsley. Their food is always made to order so it was super fresh and delicious. The sauce in the fried chicken sandwich is the real winner. A line quickly formed starting at 11:30am so I'd recommend coming early to avoid the wait.

I ate at a nearby restaurant and walked by. I saw they had Poutine, which I absolutely love! So, I made it a point to go there to try it out. Service is quick, and staff is super friendly. I also loved that they know the neighborhood dogs, who love to stop by for a little treat of chicken. I met Wyatt the dog today. He was so well behaved and definitely deserved his treat! It was pretty busy. I know this is a local fave. There are only a few available tables and some bench seating, so keep that in mind. I think their packaging is great because it's a box, so you can take the food for a picnic. I think it's a cute little "hole in the wall," that definitely gives it a neighborhood feel. I had their poutine, super delish! Loved their gravy! My husband got their chicken sandwich. So yummy, a little spicy. Lots of different textures which was nice. Looking forward to going back and trying more things!

Little hidden gem on the side of chatting. Blink and you'll miss it! The sandwiches are so incredibly tasty. We ordered the steak and the fried chicken. They have so much more on their menu that I want to explore. The food has great flavors, and the bread was nice and fluffy. After we finished we contemplated getting another one just to try it out. The service was fast, but they do tend to get busy as well. The sitting is limited, but you can always order to go. Or try and wait it out until someone leaves. The ambiance is quiet despite it being on a street. I would absolutely come back here and try other items on the menu!

I'm so confused by the hype of this restaurant it's so mediocre. I tried 2 different types of potato puffs and sandwiches and everything was so insanely bland and lackluster.

Grégoire, despite being takeout, is one of those rare gems that punches above its weight and still serves excellent food. Service is straightforward and efficient, definitely a quick pickup with some simple outdoor seating available. We stopped in to give the famous potato puffs a try but also figured to grab a couple sandwiches for lunch. The potato puffs lived up to the hype, golden and airy, with that perfect ratio of crunchiness to fluff- make sure you stop by and grab some potato puffs! Sandwiches weren't the cheapest option but you could immediately tell the quality of the ingredients and the detail put into the craft. To sum up in short- comfort food with style and creativity.

I met my husband in 2023, and I've been hearing about Gregoire potato puffs regularly since 2023. I finally got to experience them first hand! Went for a quick lunch date in Berkeley. Parking is a little tough, there's 30min parking right in front of the restaurant and 2 tables outside so it's easy to watch your car. It's very small inside, so either plan to take it to go or hope one of the two tables opens up. We got 2 potato puff flavors (garlic parm and truffle). I preferred the garlic parm, they don't skip on the parm! The potato balls are pretty rich so I could eat about 2.5. Comes with a creamy sauce. I was pleasantly surprised with their lamb burger. It was light and fresh and it gamey at all. I like the mint sauce they paired with it. Def would come back if I was in the area for a potato puff fix!

Gregoire food truck, is "home of the potato puff", and often found in the Presidio.
    Tracey A.

As I stood staring up at Gregoire's menu I couldn't help but wonder: why did this music festival in the Presidio feature 2 food trucks (total), both specializing in Fried Chicken? The above has nothing to do with Gregoire specifically, except to say that it left me wondering from which truck I should purchase fried chicken. I opted for Gregoire in the end, probably because the idea of fried chicken atop a salad sounded somewhat delightful. Delightful it was not but I'll give props where due: the fried chicken was good. But that salad... blech. The good fried chicken pieces sat atop what the menu called "spicy cole slaw" and beside asparagus-topped greens with dressing in a separate container. The slaw was over-dressed, slopping into the greens and adding the dressing to those created a combination of flavors that was not good. Two of us were sharing this $18 offering and neither of us ventured much below the chicken. Another less than good food truck experience in the books for me but had I tried only their fried chicken (and maybe the potato puffs) I expect this might've been a 4-star review.

We had a great time trying Gregoire! After a long morning, we decided to walk here for a comfy lunch, and Gregoire did not disappoint. There is only a small area outside to eat, so we took a table as soon as it opened up. It was a little windy, but we managed to hold down the fort when the food came. The tomato soup was so warm and tasty! Definitely one of the most solid soups I have ever had. And the Potato Puffs were delicious! They are so crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Unlike anything I have ever had! The fried chicken sandwich was also good, and the lamb salad was fine as well. They are both pretty filling, but a little pricey for what it is worth. Overall, I had a great time and would come back to introduce more friends to the potato puffs.

Why has it taken so long for a French-inspired food truck? They don't need to do crazy burrito fusions when a simple menu of classics done well do the trick. It's been awhile since I really appreciated a soup and sandwich like this. Fried Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich: Even though it was kinda like chicken tenders in a roll, I enjoyed this. It was reminiscent of a po' boy. And chicken tenders weren't some cheap Sysco frozen nonsense, but made by the truck people. Grilled Bavette Sandwich: An even better sandwich! Love the tender steak against the creamy cheese spread. And some nice greens. Felt so French and refined. Really setting the bar for what a food truck can do. Crispy Potato Puffs: Kinda like deep fried mashed potato balls. I'm a fan, definitely more creative than regular fries. Cream of Mushroom Soup: This whole cup of soup was an umami bomb. So delicious and simple with the mushrooms and cream. I realized it had been so long since I had mushroom soup, so kinda got me questioning why. Chocolate Bread Pudding: The bread pudding was a bit denser than I liked, but the vanilla sauce on the side was amazing. Even though the bread pudding could have been more moist, that sauce fixed everything.

Are all of your ingredients organic?

Thanks, Jon, for wondering about our product. Even though we strive to get the best ingredients possible, they are not always organic; if not, they are naturally raised or produced.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when restaurants reduce the guality or quantity of their meal to cut costs while charging premium prices. I will say I didn't mind paying a few dollars more for their subs in the past. I went there today for the first time in a couple of years, ordered a regular size basic ruben sandwich (no add-ons) and was ok paying nearly $18 dollars for just the sandwich until they handed it to me. what I got was a small 6" sub. When did their subs shrink?? in this economy we are all struggling. I get it, things cost more but Craves' owner is not doing his patrons a service by charging them premiums while cutting back on the meals. If you're ok paying that much for a shrunken sub, more power to you. I l, however, will not be going back there.

We found it very tasty, but paying over $25 for this on DoorDash--certainly not worth the price even though we really enjoyed it. The spicy chicken parm sandwiches were not good. The chicken breast was flabby, and came across like it was one of those frozen cooked Tyson jobs. I would be very surprised if they actually breaded chicken breast, fried it, and made the sandwich with that. It was mushy, and the breading was like paste on the chicken. Pretty awful. They charge extra for sauce, which is a little much, given that we paid $21 for each sandwich. But we figured out pretty quickly why they do this: there was hardly any sauce on the sandwiches. And precious little cheese. We each ate half of our sandwich and figured we doctor the leftovers up the next day with a jar of Rao's and a bag of shredded Italian cheese. That helped, but nothing could save that chicken. The meatballs. We paid $15 for four, and we had high hopes, but they were so mushy that they fell apart in the sauce, and I couldn't tell what was sauce and what was meatballs. The only flavor that came across was fennel. Why any meatball should be so fennel-forward strikes me as bizarre. We got what we thought were pretty basic things, and they were fails. If an Italian place can't make a decent chicken parm sandwich nor a decent meatball, that says something. If you go, try the pinsa.

Awhile back, I tried to bring as much business to Star Meat as I could because 1. it's a small business and 2. it's inside Star Grocery (which I LOVE, so it's convenient). When I would go there, there would often be 2 or 3 people behind the counter and oftentimes I would be the only customer. I felt like I had to stand there forever before anyone even acknowledged I existed. Each person would be busy doing something, but there was no "I'll be with you in 2 minutes." Finally, I went one day and there were 3 workers behind the counter chatting with each other. I was the only customer and was standing around 6 feet away from them, looking right at them. They went on with there conversation (not doing any other work) for a full 5 minutes. Finally I thought, "OK, they really don't seem to want my business, so I can go to any one of 4 other places and get what I want." That was a year or two ago. So, today I thought, why not give it another try, it's certainly convenient. Again, I'm the only customer at the counter. One guy is washing equipment and two guys are making sandwiches. I know that they know that I'm there, there are mirrors all along the back wall exactly for the purpose of seeing the customers. After around 4 minutes I think, who knows how long I'm going to be standing here. Maybe they have to make 20 sandwiches and I'll be here for a half hour. So, I left. I don't have anything like this experience at the 4 other meat counters I go to in the area. I'm totally fine waiting if I have some sense that I'm waiting for a purpose and that the worker will get to me as soon as they can. But at Star Meat, it feels like I'm more of an inconvenience than a customer. "Hi, I'll be with you as soon as I can," goes a long way.

The fries seasoning is really good and the onion rings were good as well. I got a mango lemonade drink that I really enjoyed. Cool place to watch sports and grab a good bite to eat. Now go and enjoy, you can thank me later.

This is a great grab and go option location because to order you go up to the cashier at front and stand in line to place order and can seat yourself. There is both indoor and outdoor seating which is nice but again gets crowded fast. Everything is vegan which is good for anyone with dietary restrictions and the food did not take more than 20 minutes to come out. The location is feels homey and cafe like. Food wise I would say everything was good but nothing to be absolutely blown away by. Definitely would come back here to grab a quick bite if in mood for American style vegan food or in a rush to get something, but nothing that I would say is a must try or unique for myself at least.

I've gone back several times and tried different variations but the pesto "chicken" sandwich is one of my faves. There must be some sorcery going on in that kitchen because I have never been to another vegan spot that pulls it off like they do The lines out front back my point up. Don't let them deter you Its very much worth the wait.
