This review is long overdue! I called Greg late one evening last year as the toilets were overflowing in multiple bathrooms at our house! He was on another appt, but assured me he would be right over when finished, which he did! He ended up working with the snake through the vent pipes from the roof, it took quite a while, but Greg never gave up!~ He kept working until he got all the blockages clear and kept a positive attitute and outloof with a happy smile the whole time! This guy truly cares about people and theri situations and will Get er done! I can not recommend him highly enough! Thanks Greg. P.S. I just voted for you in the Pacific Sun Best of the Year catagory for Best Plumber! because you rock! BTW if you have a similar story and want to acknowledge Greg, go vote! VOTE TODAY! Greg is the man! I called him up and told him about a leak that I am having with the kitchen sink. He immediately diagnosed the problem over the phone and informed me how to fix it on my own. A minute later there was no leak. This guy has a lot of integrity, so any time I will need plumbing help I am definitely going to call him and recommend him to my neighborhood. Thanks Greg! read more

Greg does not want your business. Do not bother calling him. We have a stopped up drain. We've called Greg twice in the past two weeks asking if he might be able to come fix it. He has never bothered to return our calls. No one ever answers the office or cell phone. You just leave voice mails and hope in vain that someone will acknowledge you. That's poor customer service. We certainly won't be calling Greg for a third time, and I'll be telling my friends to avoid him. Really, there are plenty of good plumbers in Marin who are willing and eager to help. Don't bother with one who isn't. read more

Greg just left my home, and not only do I have a cleaned out drain from the kitchen, but I know exactly what to do so my upstairs bathroom sink won't continually collect gunk. A really nice person, who certainly knows his stuff. I called at 8:45 or so, left a message, and he called me back in minutes and was out to my home in a half hour. I first found out about Greg several years ago from my neighbor, who is a plumbing contractor. The fortunate thing is that I only need Greg every three years or so. He certainly gets my highest rating. read more

I've had a number of marginal experiences with both local and national drain cleaning companies,.especially those with two "Rs" in their names. I've found most of them to be either bait and switch operations or totally incompetent. The bait and switchers usually quote a price on the phone and then show up a "rate card" at many multiples of the quoted rate. I've had "technicians" from widely advertised companies show up without the faintest idea of how their equipment operates or the principals of leak-free plumbing. So, this time, when the kitchen sink plugged, up I asked my favorite local plumber for a recommendation of a good local craftsman, he recommended Greg. I called at 8:30 in the morning and Greg was at my home within 20 minutes, clean, alert, awake and ready to work before I even had time to explain the problem. He power snaked out both the Kitchen and Bathroom clean-outs and then disassembled the kitchen sink to clear any remnants of the problem. No muss, no fuss, just conscious professional work. Greg was careful of our meager landscaping, offered advice on how to avoid or correct the problem should it reoccur and left our home and yard spotless with no sign of his presence except for a free flowing drain. Up until the last few years I've done all my own plumbing, home repair and construction so I recognize a professional when I meet one. Greg is a consummate professional, honest, licensed, bonded and insured. Oh, even though the job was more complex then anticipated, the more than fair price quoted was the price paid. NO BS! I can put my plumbing tools out to pasture now. I love dealing with conscious people, thanks Greg. read more

It's great to deal with people like Greg. He is friendly and responsive. Greg is a drain/sewer rooter with camera capabilities and not a all-in-one take you for a ride plumbing company. He was recommended by two different contractors as I wanted to get a second opinion regarding the condition of my sewer line to avoid, well, flushing good money down the drain. Greg shot our sewer line, found and cleared a large root obstruction that a previous rooter/plumber had not reached, and then shot the rest of the line. He explained the condition of the line as well as provided a video for our review. He charged a bit more for than the previous plumber I hired to shoot and root our line but he also located the real problems with the line and saved me a bunch of unnecessary trench work in the wrong place which was bid out at over $4000 by the previous all-in-one plumbing contractor. read more

Greg is the best in the business! He's old school though. He doesn't text or email, but there is no drain issue he can't solve. He's saved our home from disaster more times than I can count! read more

I called Greg early in the morning. He couldn't give me an exact ETA but came at the end of his long work day. It was dark and very cold. He made no fuss about working and took care of business. He snaked my drain and found the reason for my clog in the drain from my washing machine. I've had other companies come, snake the drain without looking into the REAL reason. He did such a thorough job without trying to sell me a $350 special clean out job which Other large companies have done. He's not a warm and fuzzy guy on the phone, but when he arrived he did what he advertises. I don't think I will need my drain snaked again for a long time. I highly recommend his service. read more

No less than a week after we moved into our newly purchased home we began to experience backup of sewage into both of our brand new bathtubs; and all on a Saturday morning when family had come over the check out the new house, no less. Yay. At any rate, after a couple of calls to other plumbers to no avail, we were given Greg's name and although he was already on another job in Belvedere he promised to stop by our place in Novato as soon as he was finished. Upon his arrival and initial inspection Greg quickly identified a couple of critical issues with our current plumbing including two inexplicably buried cleanouts and major root damage downstream that had caused major backup that hadn't revealed itself until now. Suffice to say it was a long day for all involved, but when he was finished, our problems were solved and although we were quite certain we'd be paying an arm and a leg to have him resolve the issue, his final price was extremely reasonable and we couldn't have been happier. We'll definitely be calling up on Greg should we encounter future such issues (fingers crossed) and heartily recommend his services to anyone in a pinch. He's prompt, professional, friendly and gets the job done at reasonable rates. Thanks, Greg. read more

No follow up. Our shower drain is backed up - yuck. I called Greg Wednesday morning and he said he would be available in the afternoon - "just give him a call." When I called at 4pm, he told me he was on another job and it could run into "overtime rates" if he came out when he finished. He told me he would call me when he was finished to give me a time. No call. I called Thursday morning to follow-up (only because he came highly recommended) and it went straight to voicemail. It's Friday...still waiting for that call, Greg.... Big zeroes for reliability, promptness and courtesy. read more

Wow what a great professional. Greg knew how our neighborhood (Eichlers/Alliance) home drains were configured. He is very knowledgeable and even though we had a very complicated problem, he was relentless and wouldn't stop until the job was done. I can't recommend him enough !! read more

Greg has been to our place at least 5 times over the past several years. (Roots in our toilet drain). Greg has always been courteous, prompt, and professional. We had used a couple of the big "Rooter" companies in the past and they always were trying to "sell" us on getting new sewers, disposals, etc. Greg has never done that. I put a Yelp on our neighborhood newsletter for Greg. Folks used him and liked him. He's an owner/operator--not one of the big chains that hire anyone for a few months. He takes pride in his work and his equipment. It' getting rarer to find craftsmen who don't treat their job like just a vehicle to make money. Greg is a guy who likes what he does and is good at it. read more

Greg drove to SR from Novato on a rainy day. Took him 2 hours. Yuk. Only to learn that the work he needed to do required 2 people (clean the sewer line from our roof). I offered to pay for his time to drive all the way down only to turn down the job, and he said no. For this, he gets a killer review on Yelp. Thanks Greg and folks, make him your first call! read more

This guy is completely irresponsible. After scheduling an appointment and taking the time off work to meet him, he calls back late and tells me he's got another job to work on and won't show up until later. He's only retort is "find somebody else". read more

For our larger plumbing jobs, we absolutely love our plumber, Brian Feeney. However, when we had tree roots simply clogging our waste line, Brian recommended Greg. We've used Greg's services on several occasions, including when our toddler flushed a toy down the toilet (aarg). Greg always shows up quickly, on time, doesn't rip us off, does a great job and charges much less than Roto Rooter and the like. We love Greg. read more

Don't believe the poor reviews regarding Greg. He just finished at my house and I cannot be more pleased. He was incredibly thorough and would not stop until he was sure all clogs were cleared - even going out to the manhole in the street, lifting it and inspecting the mainline. He was courteous and a pleasure to work with. Having done a drain clearing several years ago with another Marin based plumber and spent close to $1000, I was waiting for Greg to tell me the price. I was amazed at how reasonable he was. He truly cares about customer service versus gouging Marin homeonwners. I wish there were more businesses around like Greg's. read more

Greg the Drain Man was retained to locate and mark an existing sewer line prior to construction of a residential grading project which may have crossed the subject sewer. The sewer line was marked and we were relieved that the line was outside of the grading limits. However, during grading, the sewer line was found to be INSIDE the grading boundary and was destroyed during excavations. The line was marked at least 10 feet (laterally) from the actual location. I could have guessed the sewer line location better than what Greg was paid for. I am only commenting on the utility locating services and not the plumbing capabilities of Greg the Drain Man. read more

Greg is amazing. Called Friday afternoon thinking I wouldn't get a day for him to come till next week and he said he'd be there Sat. That was awesome. Had a washer that was overflowing and he cleared main drain of house and washer till we realized that the washer was shot. He cleared drains and tried for over an hour be for we got it that the washer has had it. Thanks so much for great prompt service. We'll call you again and tell our friends and family. read more

I am responsible for around 350 kitchens and 500 bathrooms from Sauslito to Novato. Greg is the guy I call when drains back up. Occasionally he is busy and I use a large local company, but Greg is my first choice. He really knows his stuff and goes the extra mile to get the problem fixed. read more

Greg is the water whisperer. He is absolutely fantastic. If you have drainage issues he can fix it. You do not want to use anyone else. He is the best! read more

Here it is a year later - and I need a drain cleaned - I called Greg and he remembered the address, the pipes and what was wrong a year ago. I left for work, he came by, fixed the clog and left a note on the door describing what he did. What more could we ask for? Thanks read more

Greg was awesome. I am a professional home inspector, couldn't figure out why my shower was stopped up and my toilet was gurgling. I needed help figuring out what was wrong with my waste system. Greg showed up when he said he would, immediately diagnosed what was wrong and stayed on the job till the project was finished and the problem was solved. He did a great job and I can not recommend him enough. read more

After the weekend's rains we discovered we had an issue with our yard's french drainage system (as in not draining and causing a leak into the house). Called our plumber, who referred us to this guy as the specialist we wanted to have for this particular issue. The important details: got through to Greg after a couple of calls, he came out first thing this morning, we received a terrific lesson about our drain system (installed before we owned our house), the sump pump (which was malfunctioning, but Greg showed us how to fix in in future), and how to keep everything running smoothly from now on. This guy is SO enthusiastic about what he does (I love that); he won't do what doesn't need to be done; and he's very reasonable in what he charges. Not looking forward to any future drainage issues, but if we do get them, I feel I've got a secret weapon in how to deal with it in Greg. read more

My limited experience with this guy was totally different than the previous reviewer. I called him due to a drain back up and he said he couldn't get to us for at least 24 hours. So I said OK I will call and cancel if I need to change. He said NO WAY I am making an appointment, if you are going to look around for someone else. His tone was arrogant and flippant as though he has enough work without us thank you very much!!! Certainly people like him make one question whether there really is a recession. read more

No way would I let this guy into my house. He is unresponsive and arrogant. He doesn't want your business and has said that he doesn't need it. Call someone else, there are plenty that are responsive and professional. No one should have to get to know him in order to figure out how to get a hold of him. read more

Greg came highly recommended and was responsive and did a good job. He knows his stuff and was in and out quickly. Seemed very friendly too and gave me his card. I had a totally unrelated drainage issue several days later and made that plain on the message that I left. No answer from him and no answer to several other calls I left over the next day or so. Finally I called Roto Rooter and they were out within 2 hours. read more

We have used Greg before but the last phone call and service request we made was met with an unusual rude and short response ending up with him hanging up before we could even get our questions answered. For someone in the service trade this not only rude and unprofessional but the signs and strains of a one man shop. After calling Rooter Rooter and having them cheerfully and professional answer our questions we scheduled our business with them and it was less experience and a better experience. read more

I have been using Greg for over 10 years. As others have stated, Greg is an expert at this. Prior to Greg, I have had others (name brand outfits) rod my line without any results. Greg has the magic touch to clear my line which gets clogged by roots and other things. Despite being a one-man show, he has been on schedule. In summary, I would highly recommend him and will continue to use him read more

Greg the Drain Savior! Prompt, Honest, Efficient, Kind & Effective ... he is one you want in your Rolodex! Many thanks, Allison (San Rafael) read more

This guy is the very best. He is as honest as the day is long. Had a problem and called one of the toll free numbers in the yellow pages. They came out and told me I needed to spend 6K to fix the drain. A friend told me to call Greg and 125.00 later the issue was resolved. Since then he has helped the neighbors and they are all pleased as well. read more

Greg came out almost immediately when I had my plumbing backup. There was a redwood root that was encroaching on my main sewage line and he had this cutter tool that cut this 1" root out. Great job and I felt he charged a reasonable rate for all the work he did. He also snaked my garage sink at no extra charge. read more

I wouldn't consider using anybody other than Greg on my plumbing. I have used him for years. I used another company once and they tried to up their quote by 500% once they came to my house. Greg is honest as the day is long and a super nice, professional guy. On a scale of 1 to 5 stars, I give Greg 10 Stars!!! read more

Greg came the same day we called. He was stacked up with other projects, and actually arrived after his business hours--we weren't even home! By the time we arrived an hour and a half later, the entire job was done (on our delicate Victorian home) AND he had cleaned up all the sewer leakage, leaving the entire site not only fixed, but in better condition than it had been before the job. Super pleasant fellow and we'd use him again in a heartbeat. Almost hate to leave a great review because it might make him even busier. 5 enthusiastic stars. read more

Efficient, excellent drain service. Took the time to make sure the whole house drained well, after a severe blockage built up over the years - which used to be possible to "self fix" with Liq Plumber every year or so. Greg arrived quickly ,and immediately went to work for a good hour of snaking a clog at the far end of the house. I appreciated his perseverance, ending with the knowledge that my drains are cleared and fully open and can now handle the occasional bit of rice... read more

After several unsuccessful calls over two days around Marin to find someone who could unclog my kitchen sink, I was able to find someone who was able to come in and take a look. After his snake malfunctioned, he said "I can't do this for you, you need to call Greg the Drain Man" - he can fix it. Well, I was not expecting much but after calling Greg, he said he would be able to come by in an hour. He did and an hour later my kitchen sink was functional again. Greg is a really nice guy, knows what he is doing and even cleaned my gutter on my roof that was stuffed with leaves! I highly recommend Greg for not just his service but because I like hiring people who deserve the business! Thanks Greg! read more

A true craftsman - the Sherlock Holm of drains! Right after I bought my 1980s house, the rains started and I found a waterfall coming out my front drain. Thank goodness Greg was available. In two hours, he removed a 10-foot root clog from my line, dug sand from the main drain box, patched holes in my pipe, and straightened everything out so the water will flow better with gravity. Now I won't cringe every time I check the weather. Thank you Greg! read more

greg was at my house about 20 minutes after i called him ~ the pipes had backed up, sending sewage into the bathroom and laundry room and i was beyond upset ~ he did a quick job, showing me the roots that had clogged my drainage pipe, and told me i could get an overflow cap (under $10) for the outside clean-out which would ensure that any future backups would flow onto the ground, not into the bathroom ~ he was efficient, affable and fairly priced ~ he also told me that because of the drought, it was likely that roots would take hold in the pipes again, as the plants are looking for moisture ~ so i will keep his number handy! read more
