Before they used to put recyclables on the conveyor belt so the exact amount was visible and reflected in the return via receipt. Now they use one of crappy industrial weights, write down the alleged amount on a piece of paper and you get what you get. I took in an amount that had been accumulating for almost a year. Would have amounted to 250-300 dollars via their prior process. Got 185 bucks. Don't waste your time. This place is no longer any better than the rest and they'll try to chisel you.

Last week we brought in what we thought would our biggest yet, planning to use it for gifts for homeless children this Christmas (we do it every year, make at least 12 kits for 12 children for coloring and drawing, then take them to the homeless camp), and we were very surprised when it wasn't! As we'd been saving for several months, we'd expected it to be worth at least $250 - 300 (for the first time ever, he'd had to empty the can weighing machine at the top - TWICE - we were so excited); when he told us it was $102 total, we were shocked and told him it should have been a lot more, and he said, "Yeah, price for aluminum is down to less than half what it was just last month." WHAT?! But we had OVERFILLED about 12 of their trash cans with just aluminum alone, 8 FULL cans of plastic bottles and 1/2 can of glass!! Okay, we accepted that... Then today, I started looking on websites that give the prices of recycled aluminum - AND I AM NOT HAPPY, HE LIED TO US!!!! DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE, THEY ARE THIEVES; I DO NOT CARE IF THE OWNER COMES AT ME WITH A LAWSUIT FOR SLANDER OR LIBEL; I AM VERY POOR, HAVE THREE TERMINAL ILLNESSES AND AM DYING FROM THEM ANYWAY!!!! THIS PLACE SUCKS, TO STEAL FROM POOR PEOPLE LIKE THIS!!!!!!!! Tip to owner: send in regular people with recycle once in a while, just to make sure the workers are being honest? Unless the owner is the guy who weighed our recycling & cheated us, the owner is being cheated too!! I drop the bags that we sorted at home into provided separate barrels , hand them off to a kind worker who quickly lifts the plastic & glass bottles/aluminum onto conveyor belts to happily become reusable products, finally handing me a check to take to the nice ladies at the front. My family and I are able to enjoy the $30 we made together. We have checked out Costco for this service too, which I found to be more convenient initially, but my grandmother insisted on this site, and I can see why now. Grandmother is always right :) I would not go anywhere else to do my recycling, hoping his place remains around forever.

Headed out to A & S Metals around 3:05 on a Tuesday afternoon and arrived by 3:20. I took a slight…read moredetour initially missing the turn and drove into the wrong side of the lot where all the green waste trucks were. There is a small lot on the opposite side of the 'do not enter' sign (if you're on Ohlone you've gone too far) and you keep driving in towards the large metal containers which leads to a line of cars. The layout reminded me of going into a car wash or mechanic garage. Just queue up behind the cars (there are 2 different entry points to get helped) and once you drive into the open garage there are people in front of large conveyor belts who will help you unload your items, weigh everything, and fill out a receipt form with the weight of the diff items you've brought in for redemption. Once you have that little paper you can drive through the garage and park in the lot then go back into the office where you receive another receipt with a breakdown of items by weight and amount you will receive for each. I made sure to try and separate my CR-V items beforehand (per the other Yelp review recommendations) to make things easier. I had 4 large garbage bags of crushed aluminum, a box of glass bottles, and a large tote of plastic bottles. I can't speak for other materials but I thought they paid out well, the process was quick and there was only one or two cars ahead of me, and the employees were all very friendly.
