NEVER AGAIN!!!!! The owner ASANI gave me a gift certificate for a couples massage because i referred both of my parents for platinum facials in December 2022! My husband and i went back for that couples massage for Valentine's Day weekend, and when i showed the owner, she acted like she didn't remember that she had given it to me!! the gift certificate did say "couples massage 60 minutes." She then proceeded to say that she remembered and her boss "got mad" at her for doing that... i told her that she was the owner, and then she acted like there were multiple. she said ok i'll accept this, but it'll only be for one person. He has to pay $50 like WTFFF?!!! i didn't care at this point i wanted this to be a nice Valentine's Day present. I paid the stupid $50. she led us to the other side of the room (same as lobby) with 5 screen panels acting as a "wall" and behind this wall were 2 massage tables... as we were getting massaged, there was a real room next to us, and you could hear talking and laughing!!! not to mention the people checking in at the front! i was so annoyed!!! not a relaxing atmosphere at all! The masseuses were: a teenage boy and a grandmother!!! wtfff!! massage felt like she was rushing!! ughhh! The boy came in all sniffling and sneezed about 2 times throughout my husband's massage!! And when massage was over, the boy and grandmom were waiting for us at the desk... so weirdddd! i wanted to get change for their tip, and as i was giving it to them, ready for the icing on the cake??? THEY demanded double the amount of the tip!!! THE AUDACITY!!!! I could've just given them nothing!!! I scheduled a couples massage for my wife and I a week in advance. The ad said $99 special (couples only) for a 60min full body massage. The online booking wound up charging $107. I'm not sure how the difference factored. At the time, I didn't look closer and assumed it was because of tax. A closer review of my receipt doesn't show a breakdown. It just lists $107 as a straight charge. Even still, NJ sales tax is 6.625% so the math doesn't add up. It's a nominal difference so I let it go without questioning it. The day of our massage, we were about to leave for the salon. My phone started blowing up with texts & calls saying to come 1/2hr later than scheduled. I couldn't understand her explanation as the caller appeared to struggle with the English language. She kept calling me "honey." I agreed to the 1/2hr delay. Once agreed, she tried to shift it out 1/2hr more. I said no, we need to move on to other commitments this afternoon. She agreed to just the 1/2hr delay. Upon arrival, we were accosted on the stairs by the masseuse saying they just moved downstairs. She asked if I already paid. I said yes, online. She walked us to the counter to check us in on her app. She then walked us to the couples room. She asked us at the door what kind of massage we wanted. I asked for Swedish light pressure since I just wanted to relax. My wife asked for deep tissue. We were instructed to undress. There isn't anywhere in the room to put your belongings. There's a coatrack on the back of the door. We had to keep our clothing & belongings on the floor. We laid on the tables for 10mins before they re-entered the room. The same masseuse returned with a man. She worked on my wife, the man came to me. Quite a portion of my massage was spent just rubbing my back & arms ontop of the sheet. The pressure started off okay once he moved to skin contact. Then he got too deep. Around that same time, my wife became very vocal. She was grimacing and saying ouch. She commented to the masseuse that she's very strong for a little lady. I couldn't enjoy my massage even if it was enjoyable because I was focusing concern on my wife. I even asked her if she's okay. The masseuse kept telling my wife she has too many knots and needs to come every two weeks. My wife kept telling her it hurts. The female masseuse left my wife mid-massage several times to exit the room and talk with someone. This is extremely unprofessional to walk away in the middle of the massage. Even once is unprofessional, but several times is beyond unacceptable. The man focused his time on my back, shoulder blades & some time on my legs. Barely any arms, neck, hands or feet. My hair was covered with a towel. There was no scalp work at all. He barely touched my neck or shoulders. The masseuse kept telling my wife you will be sore tomorrow but thank me for it then. My wife and I were hurting upon completion. It's 5 days later and we can still not lay on our backs in bed or lean against the backrest of our car's seat without pain. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. I've had some unimpressive massages in my past, but this is brutal. This isn't soreness... this is pain. I've been through major surgeries that didn't even leave me with this level of pain. Both my wife & I were athletes years ago so neither of us is fragile. We both have high pain tolerance levels, but this is insane. My wife and I need a massage from a reputable massage therapist once our pain heals because of this. Never again! read more

October 22, 2023 I went to get a couples massage and during my massage the woman kept leaving the room and taking calls during my massage that I couldn't relax or enjoy it. When The Massage was over and we went to pay I said to the receptionist that my masseuse kept coming and going and taking phone calls during my massage she said oh that was me. I'm so sorry so sorry so sorry and she apologized 15 times and said the next time we come, my massage would be free because of the interruptions. She apologized again and said there was nobody else here to take the calls and when we come back, she will remember me. She will remember that she told me the massage is free because of what I experience. So I booked the appointment for a month later which is today 11/12/2023 I show up and the guy at the desk says it's $99 for a couple I explain to him the situation of what took place a month ago. He said he can't do that. we went back-and-forth and then he called his manager on the phone and explain the situation to again to her. She said we don't have a free policy and she didn't say anything about getting a massage for free. I said to her that you are not the woman who did my massage. Then she says the woman who said that no longer works there she quit. How convenient is that? I said to her that is not my problem but I should get what I was promised she continued to refuse and I said that was bad business. Prior to her quitting she was working for YOUR company so your company should uphold the promise made to me because that is not good business to have a masseuse walk in and out of the room interrupting the massage and taking phone calls during the massage when the room should be peaceful and serene, that manager didn't seem to care and continued to say no that my massage will not be free. Keep in mind the person I'm with was still going to pay for their part of the massage for $50. After speaking with her another woman comes out I explained the situation to her again she understood what I was saying but again said the woman quit, and I once again said that is not my problem that is your problem. I was worried when I walked in, but after my first Groupon massage and facial, I came back a second time with my fiancé and got a couples massage. We both agreed that they were the best massages we had received in awhile. My fiancé has literally gotten up during massages at other places and waited for me in the waiting area because he was not enjoying the massage. I received the $45 Groupon for a 60 minute massage as a gift. The setup is more of an empty office than a spa. There was no consultation about where I might need focus. They didn't even ask if I wanted a glass of water, but were only focused on getting me to pay the tax in advance. I went into a room where I undressed and got under the sheet. You could hear everything that was going on outside - conversations between employees, and a man's voice that I think was a customer - kind of jarring. The massage was fine in the moment, although the stone part was weird - felt like she was using them as a scrubber. When I turned over, I saw that the door was slightly open. I looked at it and motioned toward it and the massuese giggled and apologized and closed the door. But when I opened my eyes after the massage, the door was open again! In terms of decor/ambiance, the candle was fake, and the curtains had moth holes in them. A day later, my shoulder is worse than it was when I went in, and my lower back is sore where it wasn't even bothering me before. This isn't just "bare bones", it's a cash grab. I asked for a deep tissue - the owner offered me a free combination of hot stone and deep tissue, which was a nice touch. Instead my boyfriend walked out assaulted and with rug burn. We got there and got checked in and set up for our massages, everything was going fine and my massage was great but my boyfriends gave him rug burn on his back. She also practically assaulted him and at least three times aggressively felt him his butt and around without him asking and him being comfortable. After the massage was over he asked her why I got massaged with oil and he only got massaged over a sheet and her response was "you're different" and then said "maybe next time with oil" and sat there eagerly expecting her tip. What an experience this was! I showed up to my 10am prenatal massage 5 minutes early. The place is definitely an old office space, doesn't resemble a spa at all. The two women working spoke minimal English. They kept speaking to each other in their language while glaring at my baby bump. I knew clearly something was wrong. They mostly had their masks down around their chins which made me very uncomfortable. I began to wonder how clean this place was, what precautions they were taking with COVID and if they were even licensed at all. They didn't greet me at all and after watching them talk and gawk at me while making a bunch of phone calls, they finally invited me to sit down. The talking and gawking continued for another 10 minutes and finally the one lady came over with her cell phone for me to speak with someone who I assume was the owner. She asked if I could wait another 20 minutes because there was no one there to do my massage. At this point I should have ran out but I had been looking forward to this massage for a long time, so I said ok. They bring me into a room to get undressed and ready for the massage. They never even asked me my name or to fill out any paperwork! I found this very odd, especially for a prenatal massage. As I'm laying there for 20 minutes I began reading these reviews and got totally freaked out. I got dressed and ran out of there. There was no one even there working when I left. The staff was very friendly, however this massage experience was physically terrible and uncomfortable. My husband and I went for couples massages. He felt that he got the crap beat out of him, but 2 days later has yet to say it "hurt so good" and has some bruising on his back. I am pregnant and was laying on my side for the massage because of this, which I was expecting. They avoid the hands and feet during prenatal massages, which I also knew. I started out laying on my right side, however I wasn't flipped over to my left side until the last 5 or 10 minutes. Because of this, my right arm/shoulder felt like pins and needles for most of the massage. I re-adjusted myself several times and she never asked if I was comfortable or suggested flipping sooner. I recieved a massage of my left shoulder and center to left side of my back. But after being flipped, she never even touched my right side or shoulder, not once! She didn't touch my arms at all, and only did the outside of my legs that were facing up from being on my side. I felt so obviously and unevenly massaged. For the kicker, they added on an additional $10 for having to do a "special massage" due to being pregnant. We also were not in a room, but behind room dividing screens and got to hear the full crystal clear verbal review of a gentleman's massage who had just finished, which as you can imagine was very distracting in what's supposed to be an otherwise tranquil and relaxing setting. She also left for several minutes, 4 times during my massage, 2 of those times I'm assuming was to tend to other customers, as she did not come back with hot towels or stones or something of use to the massage on those disappearances. As a whole, the massage seemed very chaotic and inefficient, and was such an uncomfortable experience, physically and mentally. She worked the oils up into my hair then yanked the ponytail to the top of my head wrapping it a third time gnarling up all the hair into a rats nest. She popped the fingers on my right hand 3 times and never repeated the same to the left. No consistency. She finished the massage 10 mins early. When I gave her 10% she handed it back and said I had to give her 20%. I explained that it was rough and finished 10 mins short. I asked her name, it sounded like Minky. She was very hard to understand. This might be the owner because I heard another couple finish up with another attendant. So I am only giving 2 stars because the massage was good. I've gone to a variety of massage/spa's so chain ones, others that are local and some provided through a chiropractor to get you to be a patient, lol. It doesn't flow and nothing was new. I sat down on a old bench to sign in and wait for someone to come to desk. Yes there is a language barrier, but no big deal to me. The issue I had aside from the bad appearance or lack of, I went in the room and was asked to change, in the middle of getting undressed the lady opens the door without knocking and puts items in the room that I guess she was going to use. Leaves the door open! As I am a little shocked she walks out. I quickly finished getting undressed and as I am about to finish covering my naked body under the sheets she opens the door. Where I notice a man and women seated in maybe what was the waiting area or foot massage section. Literally right across from my room. The room that's right around the corner from the bathroom. I asked her to quickly close the door. I truly believed this lady did understand modesty and privacy. So I continued on with the massage. She didn't ask if anything hurt or if she should focus on anything. Luckily I was alright but eventually did ask her to focus on neck and shoulders. During the massage I could hear everything outside the door. She left once, leaving the door ajar . Soo when the massage was over, she came back to bring the hot stones she used on me. She must have washed them and put them back in the warmer. I'm like, really? You could wait a minute since I am leaving. The massage was good but the place/vibe didn't feel professional at all. I've been here over a dozen times and was surprised to read some negative reviews. It's been consistently great for me and anyone that I've sent there. Whether I made an appointment or not, they've always accommodated me. I recognize that English isn't everyone's first language but its not a problem communicating with them (I don't go to an authentic Mexican restaurant and expect them to sound exactly like me either). The young woman that answers the phone has an accent but it's no problem to understand. I enjoy doing business with friendly people and they certainly exemplify that. Unlike the chain stores, they really appreciate their customers and I don't feel like "a number" when I go there. $60 for an hour is a good price but I prefer to buy the membership and pay $45 an hour. I love hearing back from those to whom I've given gift certificates. It's always been a great experience. The massage is as good or better than any luxury/resort massage that I've had but costs a lot less. read more

This place came highly recommended but admittedly by strangers on Facebook so I'll know better next time. The customer service is gruff and they make it very clear they want their money up front. The space is old and smells like grandma's house. Right away when you walk in the first thing you see is the desk where we were sat down under overhead lighting to pay; when we didn't pay cash but credit card he looked downcast and told us "ok then tax." Despite being turned off, we decided to try anyway, and were led to the tables - behind a screen that was literally in the same room. The linens did not smell fresh and I was reminded of that time I stayed in an EconoLodge off of 81 in rural Virginia during a week of Suzuki teacher training but at least there I wasn't staying for the hospitality. Lo and behold, after laying there for 10 minutes, the front man comes in and says "I'm very sorry they working they be 15 minute late is that ok. They working." I can spare 15 minutes and I really need a massage, so I say ok. Our appointment was for 2:30. The next time I look at the time, it's 2:51. No one in the place. We heard some people walk through 10 minutes ago but now silence. What is going on? Now I have to pee and I'm over it. We put our clothes on, come out and sit on a bench in en empty waiting room. When he finally comes out it's 3. It's now halfway into our appointment; I should have been halfway into a deep tissue massage. I say I want to leave and ask for a refund. He says "I'm sorry they working, 5 more minute. You wait 5 more minute?" Who is working? What work? Aren't we their "work?" What is going on in this place? He then asks us to talk to his manager, and gets her on the phone, not to talk to us but to yell at him in Chinese while we stand there, being held hostage. I insist we want our money back and to leave, and this continues. We have children to pick up, I cleared my afternoon for this. Unbelievable. I asked why we have to stand here and wait for this - she's really giving it to him, I can hear it over the phone that they really want our money but they would have had it in exchange for the service we booked - and my husband then threatened to call the cops if they didn't refund our money and let us go, at which point the poor guy refunded us with cash from his own wallet because he "didn't know how to use the machine" to put it back on our card, and profusely apologized as best he could and said "I just work here." Excellent masseuses and a very relaxing atmosphere -- everyone is really nice and helpful! As a professional violinist, I am all too aware of how difficult it is to find a masseuse who cares enough to look and feel where your real issues are and work them out. I have been twice now and on both occasions the masseuse working with me has had an excellent sense of touch. I have left feeling relaxed each time and eager to go back. Too many occasions before Hot Stone Spa, I had received inadequate or uncaring, yet expensive massages. If I had deep tissue, I would get bruised this is usually due to lack of muscle knowledge and/or a good sense of touch. If had Hot Stone before, I always ran the risk of cold stones or burning hot stones. These are not experiences you will have at Hot Stone Spa! There is no question that they want to help you feel better. I have felt amazing each time. Additionally, each time I have received a scalp massage during the massage and it has done such wonderful things for my brain -- definitely a stress reducer!
