Good signage on the premises, clear expectations of costs to recycle, and Chanel was very helpful! I recognize that recycling responsibly incurs processing and transpiration costs. I am happy to do my part in recycling responsibly. I would recommend getting rid of any unnecessary parts when you bring the recyclable items (e.g., boxes, packaging) that are regular trash because everything is measured by weight. I was able to recycle a bunch of random electronics that can't be reused. I will be back with my laptops and CDs/VHS next! As I drove in, I was immediately greeted by Marcus, a very nice, well versed man who shared a lot of information about the company and their services. Spectacularly easy! We were cleaning out the garage and old office stuff and had 5 laptops, 1 desktop, and 3 disk arrays that we needed recycled AND date wiped/secured. [Note: the trash haulers I talked to that take everything, including electronics would have been happy to remove the PCs and disks BUT they do not wipe the drives.] I phoned GreenCitizen and asked if I needed to do any special preparation of the equipment. I was told to just come on down. I did. I parked and was immediately met by the woman I'd talked to on the phone. (She has a slightly non-standard name which I didn't catch when we talked and I don't see it on the receipts, but she is praiseworthy!) TV's and monitors are free to recycle and $1/lb for other things like printers, cords and other electronics is a great price.. I've only come to this place so not sure of any place cheaper. We had a 50" TV that sadly no longer worked and we dropped it by Green Citizen. They were very helpful and made it so easy to drop. Love that they are recycling and reusing our e-waste. These guys removed and destroyed all the drives while I watched, and it was a quick and easy process. They have a "disk destroyer" that crushes traditional drives, and a drill press to destroy SSD memory chips. Highly recommended! read more

They used to have small store branches around the Bay Area, but many years ago had to consolidate to keep running, so now it's just the main site south of SF Intl Airport. Their people are friendly and professional, it's a simple drive-up and drop off, and there's no worry that your used electronics will end up in a burn pit in Asia. It was really easy to just call up Junk King set an appointment and get my old stuff hauled away but even better, I found out that they have a standard minimum on how much they have to recycle and reuse. It makes me feel good that my junk is actually going to a good place. It's money that I would absolutely pay for instead of letting it just go to waste management to dump in landfill. They offer a great service that, as far as I know, no one else provides locally. They take pretty much everything that curbside recycling doesn't, often at no charge, and when they do charge it's reasonable, at least for the small amounts I recycle. I've dropped off old electronics and cords for free many times here. I've watched them physically destroy a hard drive with sensitive information for me too. No need to wait for a special Earth Day event to recycle! Super easy drive through process. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They even take dense white EPS (styrofoam) #6 which is recyclable, but you cannot recycle curbside. Highly recommend for ease, and saving the environment. read more

I had a giant haul of e-waste from clearing out our offices at work and Green Citizen took it all! I had 11 computer items that needed destruction, which they facilitated onsite so I could witness the process. I coordinated everything with Angelina Guerrero their Sr. Sustainability Account Manager's who provided me great service, and excellent communication. Thanks to her clear instructions, I was able to find their location with ease. Upon arrival I was greeted by a friendly staff member and their team helped unload my truck. Their team worked together to open all of the computers brought, located and removed the hard drives, and reassembled each device. Then Max (I may have his name wrong) walked me through the destruction process of each hard drive. He was through in his explanation and showing me proof of destruction for each device. Green Citizen will now be my go-to for any e-waste/destruction needed. Not only was their service professional but I appreciated that each person I encountered was friendly and knew what they were doing. Over the years, I've taken several items to GreenCitizen, and I really appreciate their dedication to reusing or recycling as much as possible. My most recent drop off included a scanner, DVD/BluRay burner, and a 3TB Seagate drive. All still worked perfectly, but I no longer needed them. The $1 per pound fee was well worth knowing these items might be reused or would, at least, be recycled. It's very helpful that the Green Citizen website clearly lists the types of items they do and do not accept and how much, if anything, they charge. Some things are free; some things a $1 per pound. The staff is fast, friendly, and always helpful. When I arrived, Shanell came out and helped unload, weighed the items, and processed the payment.
