On the fence still with this business. Went in for a cleaning as I moved here to CO 2 years ago and hadn't found a dentist yet. Was told I needed a deep cleaning, not a regular one, because my gums were receding and one of my fillings needed to be redone because a cavity was growing beneath it. They could only do one side deep cleaning of my mouth due to insurance requirements so I picked the side needing the filling redone. Took a little over 3 hours and $350 (out of pocket with insurance) for half a deep cleaning and replaced filling for a cavity. Came back the next week for the other deep cleaning for another hour and $150 out of pocket. I've never been told that I had periodontal disease and now need deep cleanings, which cost more out of pocket than regular cleanings. I was with my previous dentist for 5 years and while I thought I had minimal receding gum line only on the front bottom teeth, I was told that was not the case. I am not a dentist so I can only go by what they say/recommend. I did decline an optional $200 laser treatment for my gums. Also, there was no hygienist my first visit, so the dentist cleaned my teeth. The hygienist the next week said I was not doing a good job cleaning my teeth/gums by the build up in just a weeks time but I explained that her cleaning was far more in depth than the dentist's the week before. They also only polished one side of my mouth, when I asked why I was told because they only needed to polish the side of the filling. While I appreciate they were able to redo my filling same day, it was unexpected and I could not return to work because of the numbness but I was happy to get it done immediately. I did have to change rooms during my visit because the water wasn't working in the first room and the second room was dirty with hair all over the chair and I stared at a cracked light the whole time. I mentioned I was sensitive on the front bottom gum line where the gums are receding and the. Dentist still attempted to deep clean. I jumped and yelled as it hurt so bad. I told the hygienist the next week and she was great being gentle so no pain with her. I'm supposed to go back in 3 months to get my gums checked and they want me to see a specialist for my gums. I don't have pain or sensitivity at all (the front bottom gums only are an issue at cleanings) so I don't know if I need too. Again I am not in the dental field and can only assume that experts know best. To add: All the staff was super nice and friendly to me. read more

Very unhappy with this office and do not recommend. They overcharge for services that are not necessary. I was told I have gum disease needed rooting and scaling and insurance would not cover my cleanings which totaled more than $3000 out of pocket on top of my dental insurance. I have cleanings done once a year and never have been told this prior. I then went and got a second opinion 3 days later with a different dentist, who gladly told me I do not have gum disease and just need a basic cleaning. Don't waste your time or money. I went to this practice on 03/17, for a simple cleaning. I had missed my last appointment with my regular dentist and refused to go longer than 12 months without a cleaning, so I settled on this place. HUGE MISTAKE! They scammed me into getting a "deep" cleaning, which included a ton of shots in my gums and scraping underneath the gum line. I have since gone to my regular dentist, as this situation REALLY did not sit well with me, and he confirmed that not only was this not necessary, but has actually caused damage. They also tried to sell me on $600 worth of totally unnecessary treatments that my dentist laughed at upon describing. Please, do yourself a favor and avoid this practice at all costs. read more

Green Valley Ranch Modern Smiles is the dentistry equivalent of McDonald's. My experiences here have all been disastrous. It started one morning a few years ago when a front veneer fell off, but as she was cementing it back on, Dr. Vilar cracked the veneer. She replaced it, but did so with a crown instead. Not that she told me (my new dentist did). And it all went downhill from there. I should have found a new dentist immediately but this place was close to home and convenient, so I continued going there, but I am paying the price for my decision now. In my opinion, the dentists here have a habit of not practicing preventative medicine or detecting potential problems early on, but as soon as you visit complaining of sensitivity or pain, you invariably need a root canal and a crown. These dentists are NOT conservative at all and they are PUSHY. I also found their hygienists and assistants to be clumsy - knocking my teeth with their instruments and splashing water everywhere, and also rude - always asking too many personal questions (especially when they were working in my mouth and I couldn't respond.) They referred me to a terrible periodontist whose work led to complications that required additional treatment. (After three periodontal surgeries a hygenist had the gall to ask me if I had considered seeing a periodontist! So much for keeping patient records and reading them before an appointment.) In my opinion, their crowns (Cerec - the "two hour crowns") are of very low quality. One crown they made for me was too high above the gum and increased my sensitivity. I had to have it remade. To this day, NONE of the crowns I have had made here feel comfortable or natural. The final straw was when they worked on the WRONG TOOTH. Their communication is dreadful. The staff have you sign all kinds of consent forms, but they don't explain which tooth they are working on, or show you the crown before they cement it in place. I can't tell you how unhappy I am with the work and customer service I've received from this place. I've since found another dentist without any of this unnecessary, painful, and costly drama. Zero stars! This is the most unprofessional dentist office I have ever used. Incompetent front staff. This place is only out to take as much money as they can. If you go, make sure you tell the staff not to offer any advice. My spouse and I were charged more than $150 just for them to talk about brushing and flossing. They did whatever they wanted, leaving us with the impression that insurance covered it, never discussed any charges with us, and now we owe $1600. I've canceled all future appointments and I'll be finding every listing I can to leave this review, hoping to stop others from being treated so horribly. In 47 years Ive never had numbing not hurt and I seriously didnt feel anything when she numbed. Very fast efficient team. my mom came here to get work done by Dr Vilar and the gum specialist and they told her that her only options were implants and they made it clear to her that she would get reimbursed by her insurance as she has expressed concern about money as she was retired an on a fixed income. She paid 9000 in full and insurance said that they would not be paying anything towards it or reimbursing her especially since they never did a pre authorization even though we were told they did. this has been going on since 2019 and every time we come in for her appointments she brings it up to the front office and to Dr Vilar and all she is told is someone will look into it an never a response back. read more

I went in to have a piece of a broken tooth extracted. They took X-rays and then left me there for 45 minutes. I had to go find the staff. The receptionist who was wonderful told me the doctor was making notes. The doctor said they had an emergency. However I heard the staff laughing and talking in the other room. 45 minutes before they were going to close ( I'd now been there for over an hour) they came in to give me my bill. I left. If you value your time, do not go here. My first appointment on Saturday January 7th, it was 45 minutes before I saw the Doctor. Then she told me she would send 2 prescriptions over to the pharmacy but I only got 1. Had to call 4 FOUR times to get this resolved. My second appointment was today at 8:45 with the oral surgeon. They texted me twice and called twice to make sure I was there at 8:15 to get the paper work done. I was there at 8:15, was taken back to the patient room at 8:45 and then sat there for half an hour doing nothing. I asked the tech what the issue was and was told it would be another half an hour to 45 minutes before the doctor could see me. They have a sign on the front desk that says if you are late or miss your appointment you will be charged, wait for it $100.00!!! But apparently their patients time is worth nothing to them. They clearly overbook and care more about making money then actually taking care of peoples teeth. read more

You are only a dollar sign to them. They will take advantage of your insurance company and charge the absolute max. I should have known better when I called and the receptionist was an absolute robot and had no personality. The first question she asked me was if I had insurance and was not concerned what so ever with my issues. I went there a couple weeks ago because I have been having pain in two teeth and I also had a cracked tooth. They said I'd need a root canal and that even though my insurance covered 60% of the costs I would still owe almost $6,000 for three root canals. They also took a ton of X-Rays of my whole entire mouth. They didn't explain to me that my insurance only covers this sort of exam every 3 years, so now this office owns my x rays and if I need to have other xrays done at another dentist I will have to pay out of pocket. When I was setting up an appointment for their endodontist (which is only there on Monday's) I had to put down a $100 deposit. I was very ignorant and didn't know that root canals were not supposed to be that expensive. The receptionist who was going over the cost with me kept trying to push their in house credit line, which should have been a bug red flag. After I left I contacted my insurance company and they told me that my portion should not even be close to $6,000 and I was recommended to another dentist. This office is a rip off and they only want your money. According to the dentist that saw me she is still trying to pay off her student loans so I'm assuming they need to rip off their customers to pay for their education. read more

Was referred by my dental office to Green Valley Ranch Modern Smiles, and after one phone call they lost my business. The receptionist was very rude and would not listen to me explain what my issue was, she was assuming that I did not know what I was talking about and kept rudely interjecting. She put me on hold without even saying anything to me and I eventually hung up, because I do not want to do business with a place who's front line treats you like this, I cannot imagine how the actual service is. My tooth broke. I called at 7pm on Thursday and they got me in at 2pm on Friday. I have never been here before, but a friend recommended them. Everyone was professional and friendly. Everything was explained and the digital photos and x-rays made clear everything they recommended. I needed a crown. They explained the process and the charges. They are not cheap, but everything was done in one visit, including the actual crown (no temporary crown with a return visit ). Except it was an unexpected expense, I couldn't be happier. My husband was talked into unnecessary removal of almost all his teeth rather than treat the problem - that was May 15th. After thousands of dollars, he still does not have a final set of dentures. The usual hygienist I got is pretty good but I am not going back after the last cleaning I got. I forgot the name of the hygienist but she was very careless. It was the most painful cleaning I've ever had. She did not care to use the overhead lighting. She was scrubbing at my teeth harshly and did not care to hold the vacuum as she was cleaning so it wasn't until my mouth was overflowing that she realizes she had to do something. This continued several times and she was still careless. I told her I was experiencing pain and was not offered any anesthetics. Also I was getting sprayed all over my face and hair with the cleaning tool. There were stains left and the hygienist did not check over the clean with floss. When I left my shirt and jacket were wet. I also had surgery done and never got to see the doctor again for post op. I feel like with any surgery I want to be seen by the doctor that did the work. I was so happy to see that they had unconventional hours, as my work schedule is unconventional. When I arrived for my appointment no one was there. If I would have no call no showed for my appointment I would have been charged. I get 2 days off every 2 weeks. I got up early to honor my appointment on one of my days off just to be stood up. I am giving this office 1 star because a negative star review is not possible. The dentist that I have met were great unfortunately the office staff needs more than improvement. All they want is your money. Cost are not explained properly and they lack compassion. I have been to a lot of different places and have dealt with many people but they are by far the worse. They scheduled me an appointment with the wrong dentist. They tried to charge me a consult fee again which I had already paid it. Then called me 8 days later to try and fix it. Now mind you i have broken tooth that they already wanted me to wait 20 days before I could see the dentist then they wanted me to reschedule and wait another 3 days. So a total of 23 days as if I am not in pain already. I called another dentist and I will be seen tuesday. Their actions show that they could careless about the patient. As a former experienced dental professional, I'm furious at this office. I took my dad here on Friday because the poor guy broke a molar and was in terrible pain! When I called the office, I asked if they could treat that day and they said yes! Told me to bring him in at 12:30. Dr. Evelyn Chen came in and must've been having a rough day because she never even gave him a smile.. not to mention her assistant ( I can't remember his name) looked like he was going to fall asleep standing there. She coldly told my dad the obvious, that he had broken a tooth but completely failed to see or explain the obvious cause. I quickly saw what happened by looking at his x-ray. The tooth next to the now broken one had had a poorly done RCT and crown which left a food trap between the teeth. Because food was constantly getting stuck there, it caused a another cavity on the neighboring tooth causing it to eventually break. Also the tooth with the RCT will most likely fail as well soon. She didn't explain ANY of that to him. Just "your tooth broke(DUH!) and you need to see the oral surgeon and you have perio. disease".. she left the room and I had to chase her down to get her back into the room where she admitted to me that she only focused on #18. My feeling are if he has to get #18 extracted and #19 is GOING TO FAIL then why didn't she tell him that so he could get them both pulled at the same time and get a partial?! When she walked out of the room my dad looked at it and meekly asked me if I thought she was a good dentist and even though I was seething inside I nodded and smiled at him. Anyways, he can't get the tooth pulled now until tomorrow (Monday) and the guy is in so much pain and has been all weekend. I am SO ANGRY at this dentist and her lack of any warmth and her obvious neglect. I will continue to spread the word to my friends, family and other dental professional peers that she is a poor excuse for a dentist and I am just so sorry I brought my dad to her. read more

Do not go here EVER!! Worst dental experience of my life. I am still recovering from the crappy dental work that they did in September, its now January. I was in constant pain for 5 weeks after the work was done. I was supposed to get a night guard here as well, paid $400 dollars for it, the teeth mold broke at the lab, and we only found out after calling them 2 weeks after I was supposed to get it. On top of this the fillings that they put in were crap and I'm in the process of getting them fixed at a much better dentist that I should have gone to in the first place. The good dentist that I am going to now said that one of the fillings that was done would end up causing another cavity. First off this dental office allowed me to change my appointment multiple times while I was figuring out some insurance changes, and they did so without penalizing me or making it feel as though I was inconveniencing them (although I am sure I was). The atmosphere feels like any other awesome dental office visit, however the technology they use, I.e. Digital x-rays, same day crowns, make it feel as though they are on the cutting edge of dental care knowledge. The staff knows our names and is clearly interested in our lives, not just at a dental health level. I feel much more at ease here than any other dental visit I've ever had. Any dental office review will highlight some negative things in most cases, cause no one likes to go to the dentist (sorry guys), but my experience here prompted me to put up some positive words for an otherwise un-popular thing to do.
