This was the first time he needed cavities treated, which felt overwhelming as a parent because unfamiliar environments, people, and equipment can be especially difficult for autistic children. Dr. Chris was incredibly calm, patient, and compassionate. He met our son where he was, spoke to him in a gentle and reassuring way, and used playful interactions to help him feel safe and comfortable. Because of that support, our son was even able to tolerate an X-ray, which was a huge milestone. We love the TV screen with cartoons on the ceiling which engages kids quite well! I was also very nervous about the anesthesia, but Dr. Chris was so understanding and reassuring throughout the process. His experience with autistic children truly shows, and it made all the difference for our family. We highly recommend him.

During our last appointment this same dentist performed our exam. Again, zero introduction. He walks in the room and asks my 9 year old "what questions do you have for me?" Not sure how a 9 year old would respond. My son is super proud of not having any cavities but this dentist only provided negative feedback, commenting on something my son might be missing. After that appointment, I called the office to provide feedback, and they assured me that the next appointment would be with Dr Patterson. Fast forward 6 months and I get the reminder for our appointment in a couple of days which states that our appointment is with the dentist we do not prefer. I call the office about this, and the staff member begins throwing out new times that do not work for children in school. I ask if I can have someone call me back so I can understand how our original request wasn't honored and she stated that she could "try to have Tara call me back." Unfortunate that this was our experience. I recommend proactive communication when deciding to switch patients' providers to they can make informed decisions regarding their care. We won't return.

There's coffee for parents, toys for kids and each dental chair has it's own tv with Netflix so your child can pick their favorite movie. After being brought back to the dental chairs by a friendly assistant, with the welcome for the 'parent' to join their hesitant child, I followed dutifully. After a few minutes my son felt right at home and requested to watch, 'The Walking Dead.' There were two ladies who asked, 'are you sure?' Whatever it takes to relax, is my opinion, although hearing a request for, 'The Exorcist,' would have gotten a hands down, "NO!' My son immediately relaxed and told me to leave. Sitting in the waiting room, I watched the dentist walk out with her young patient after a procedure, and sit down with the parent to discuss everything, and very highly concerned for the child's pain issues; also complimenting bravery as well. Other parents near me were calm and confident in their child's care. As all parents must multi task these days, I was able to handle two business calls while I waited. One call required more decision making, and it was not until I was halfway through my call, that I realized talking with my hands is not polite society, nor speaking loudly. Thanks to the stares from my fellow human beings nearby, and my late mother, who's memory continues to remind me of my manners, my brain thought, 'Merci beau coup,' and I sat on my hands. Then I realized I could not communicate, because of my late father's Brooklyn upbringing, which requires hand gestures during conversation.. So in the world of compromise, I scratched my head. And hopefully nobody assumed there were creatures in my hair. This place is very popular because they are very good. Keep in mind last minute cancellation has a $100.00 cancellation fee. Enough to make everyone remember their appointment.

She looked forward to her appointments after years of building trust and familiarity and unfortunately, we have to start that process all over somewhere else in the middle of Covid. Covid has made it hard for everybody and sometimes the unexpected happens but this email is mildly heartbreaking if you're the ones on the chopping block. Just as it states, Their facility is so beautiful, the Dental team is amazing and caring, and they take the latest and greatest approach to pediatric dentistry. All of that is true and if you're not one of the Medicaid patients you'll continue to receive nothing but the very best. That commitment to treat and care for every patient as she would her own child is just going to be for non-medicaid patients. If you can afford to bring your child here then do because they are wonderful. If I could afford to pay out of pocket I would in a heartbeat. I'd have loved to keep my little one here but this email is so unfortunate. It was not written with the thought of how excluded this would make Medicaid families feel. Yes, we are a low-income family but we are every bit as deserving of the amazing care Sunrise describes in this email and will provide to non-Medicaid families. There was a much better way to word this and go about this change in general and that's what's really disappointing. I told my daughter that Dr. Crespi stopped being a dentist altogether rather than explain that she's just not going to be her dentist anymore and she was still upset. Hopefully, we'll be able to find somewhere just as wonderful for low-income families.

I found Dr. Carlson-Marks by accident while searching for a second opinion after our previous…read moredentist told us my son needed $2800 in dental work for his BABY TEETH!!! We visited Children's Dentistry of Cherry Creek for that second opinion and were so impressed by EVERYTHING about the office that we returned to our original dentist. There are so many reasons why they are the best pediatric dentist office in Denver - hands down, but here are just a few... 1) The Staff - Every person in that office from the receptionist to the dental assistants to Dr Carlson-Marks herself are kind, helpful and SO GREAT TO THE KIDS as well as the parents. Instead of flashing fake smiles and then seeming mildly irritated by the kids and their parents, the staff here are genuine and engage with your children with kindness, interest and respect. Obviously kids don't love everything that happens to them at the dentist, but instead of just putting a Netflix screen in front of them so that the staff can pretend your kids don't exist, the staff here engage with the kids, get feedback, and help the kids to get through whatever needs to be done with genuine care and consideration. 2) Their Methods - There is an emphasis on prevention here, not on getting you to shell out huge amounts of cash to fix cavities that are just going to keep occurring because the root cause was never addressed. The first thing that happens every time my kids are called back for their appointments here is that they brush their teeth for the dental assistant and are then given tips on what they can do better. Our previous dentist, who charged more than double the price of this office for routine exams, never once in the 3-4 check ups my boys had there ever showed my boys how to properly brush their teeth. 3) Conservative Approach - Dr. Carlson-Marks is perfectly happy to try the wait-and-see approach rather than rushing into drastic procedures for teeth that are going to naturally fall out in the next few years anyway. She's still thorough and will advise when action genuinely needs to be taken, but when she does you can be sure her recommendation is based on what your child needs and not how much money the office will make. 4) Honest and Fair - You won't be charged massive amounts of money when you have to pop in because your kid's tooth is aching or was chipped. If you aren't receiving lengthy treatments, they don't bill you heaps of money just for stopping by the office. And in general, their prices are so reasonable that I almost feel guilty paying so little for such phenomenal care. 5) Appointments and Wait Time - It isn't impossible to get in when dental emergencies strike, and you usually won't be waiting in the lobby an hour after your appointment time. 6) Flexible and Holistic - Whatever your angle (traditional or more conservative/natural approach), they will accommodate you, offer options that work for you, and treat you with respect. I am so happy I found this office and you will be too.
