I have been coming here for years and recently noticed that all of the washers spin cycles are leaving clothes heavy with water. This requires me to pay more for the dryer and is subsequently harder on my clients the longer they are in the dryer. I do not recommend this place. read more

But I got here 9:15 and the person was very rude as we entered the place gave us a look and talked down to us and said look we closed it's 10 PM. Now mind you the yelp listing reads 11:45 PM. and dry cleaning ! ! Integrity. It's odd to use the word "integrity" in describing a laundry service, but Green Spin is so much more than just a business that cleans our clothes. I don't know that we'll ever be able to share with future generations what those first months one year ago this week were like, but we didn't know what it was that killed us when so many were becoming sick and dying, we didn't know how COVID was contracted or spread, and everyone shut down ... except for a one or two businesses. (Absolutely no blame from me to anyone who shut down at all ! We still don't go out, we still get everything delivered and only go out once a week to Food Story Natural Market to get flowers and staples.) We still needed to do our laundry. We were blessed with being able to work from home immediately, and we had to appear on camera for business meetings, for church meetings, for counseling sessions, so we were changing clothes as much as normal. Plus, we were also cleaning more than ever, because we were home all the time, so there were separate bundles of cloths that had been in bleach and rinsed and dried. Then the seasons were changing, so we had dry cleaning too. The laundries by us shut down, for a long while, God bless them, not pointing a finger at all. There was one local place who opened about a week later, but he was overwhelmed, and the worst thing was, he wasn't terribly kind (again, no harm, no foul). He also used an app that charged you at the time of booking, but then he'd cancel for no reason, or close because of an outbreak, or just forget ... and it was a small nightmare to get the money back when he'd cancel on you, and then he'd get very defensive. We've lived in this area for 20 years now, and I had always seen George in the Green Spin van and always thought, what a luxury ! not having to haul the laundry to and from ! and I figured it would be massively expensive. Guess what, it's not. It's no more than dropping off your laundry (if you meet the minimum), and you get a relationship with a beautiful local family who takes pride and care in their ability to offer essential services to their neighbors. What a blessing. Their dry cleaning service is also a miracle. I've written before about how hard it was on the east side of 31st Street to find someone who would dry clean things. (We moved to the other side of the tracks three years ago from 20 years at 21st and 21st.) They would refuse the business and tell us our items should be laundered, like heirloom linens, bathmats that fade or with rubber backs that crack, expensive shower curtains. The first time I gave Green Spin a bag they didn't blink, the prices are absolutely reasonable, they came back gorgeously cleaned, and the best thing is, they come to your house with a kind word and a smile, with a text, with an email, and these days I don't know one thing that means more than that, that family feeling, that feeling of being cared for by your neighbors. I used to get my laundry done with Speedwash but sadly they don't do pickup/deliveries anymore. So I yelped! and found Green Spin. I called in and asked to schedule a delivery immediately and George came in a couple of minutes. Shout out to George! He is awesome, super friendly, and attentive. Never had better customer service. An item I had dry cleaned here was damaged and I was devastated. I called their number to see what could be done and George immediately came to my door (to my door!!!) to inspect the item. He assured me it'd be fixed in two weeks (over the holidays!!!) Right on time, my item came back to me and was perfectly repaired. Unbelievable. Most places don't care or take responsibility when something goes wrong but George went above and beyond. Why did this happen to begin with? Well, the employees working in the laundromat are not dry cleaners, the clothing gets sent elsewhere for cleaning. They may not be able to answer very specific questions regarding dry cleaning. It doesn't help that there was an unfortunate language barrier that I think is to blame for misinformation about my item being okay to dry clean. I'd recommend reaching out to George if there's a specific concern regarding your clothing. He can be trusted. Also, I've been going here for laundry and dry cleaning for almost a year and it's clean, safe, quiet and I've never had a problem getting a machine. It's the only laundromat that has a card system in the area, you can check your balance online, get text alerts and it has the best hours (open til 11). I wanted to give four stars because it would have been better if the damage hadn't happened and I'm still disappointed that the employee mistakenly assured me my item could be dry cleaned, language barrier or not. But the results of the mistake were too good not to give five stars. I would give 0 starts but I couldn't. We drop our family laundry on a weekly basis to be done by them. For a while it was ok but lately it has been TERRIBLE! During the worse of the pandemia I'd get my clothes folded so bad, all wrinkled and sometimes even not fully dried. The last several weeks I've noticed bleach stains on my clothes, I have called but the guy in charge, George doesn't care too much about it. We always provide detergent and I have asked to please make sure there's no bleach for our wash. On our last p/u my daughter's brand new dress got damaged so I decided to make it a point to go over there and talk to someone responsible. The Spanish lady at the counter was rude, dismissive and told me my husband told her to actually use bleach on our clothes. She changed her story few times too. She also pulled her mask down to talk to me. George was giving me the run around and siding w his employees even though the damage to the clothes was clear. I WILL NEVER USE THEIR DEPLORABLE SERVICE AGAIN! Truly can't sing enough praises for Green Spin. Customer Service: George is an absolute delight; responds nearly instantaneously, flexible and accommodating with schedules, and is super polite. Just an all around upstanding guy. Also, I've called the laundromat directly on a few occasions and everyone I've spoken with has been really sweet and genuinely helpful. As a native New Yorker, this has been extremely disarming. Service/Wash Quality: We've lived in Astoria for 6 years and, while we only graduated to the level of bougie that engenders having someone else do your laundry two years ago, we've used upwards of 10 different laundromats in that latter block for a mix of drop off or pick-up & drop off. Not to say that our clothing elsewise was unclean, but there is a distinct difference in quality with our GreenSpin washes. It smells the way you imagine the clothing smells in those preposterous (but wonderful!) Downy TV commercials. The clothes are folded compactly but sensibly, so that the entire stack doesn't collapse when you try to take things out of the bag. ^ Admittedly, the fact that I have the luxury of opining on these details (or perhaps, more glaringly, that I've convinced myself that my obscene work schedule makes it okay having someone else do my laundry) is trying, but this post is about giving credit to George and his team so, for the sake of brevity, i'll spare you all the navel gazing. This review is for the laundry pickup/delivery service. George is personable and was super nice about it when I was running late for my laundry dropoff/pickup. I can place a laundry pickup order online with less than a day's notice and my clothes come back (smelling amazing, I might add!) within a day of pickup. Prices are reasonable and special instructions are always followed. George even gave me a laundry bag so I could stop using trash bags for my dirty clothes. So glad I found Green Spin! Good spot if you do self service but doing dry cleaning/shirts pressed through them has been a hassle. I was over charged the first time. The 2nd time no one knew how to enter in "pressed and laundered" shirts even though it says it on front of building. 3rd time the owner took over for the attendant as she could not enter it correctly. Just tried for the last and final time as the guy behind counter could not figure out how to enter. Then entered wrong # of shirts and then couldn't figure how to fix. This is the third time my laundry has been sorted incorrectly and fourth issue overall. Received an incorrect match to my pillowcase and brought back the one that was not mine....woman working proceeded to argue with me that it was mine and refused to check any of the washers or dryers for the match. Thank you Yelp for helping me find my new laundry spot. I just moved to Astoria, and I was worried about sketchy laundry places. Ugh old machines with who-knows-what remnants stuck inside the washer totally gross me out! That being said, Green Spin laundry is the cleanest laundromat on the block! The managers are friendly. The location is bright and spacious with many long tables for folding and plenty of baskets. There are 18 small washers ($2/load), 12 large washers ($5/load), 28 small dryers, and 4 giant dryers. The machines are new with digital display and so clean - no gross detergent gunk! I've never done pick-up/delivery but according to the other reviews, they provide excellent service. Every time I drop off my clothing I let them know certain garments I don't want put in the dryer and they are both great about it. They even go the extra mile to pull out clothes they don't think should go in the dryer which I really appreciate. FREE WIFI! **** is a plus! The cons: The bathroom is pretty gross. I try to never use it. But Sometimes I like to wash my hands before I fold my clean clothes and there is never any soap or paper towels in the bathroom. They have been such a lifesaver during quarantine. I've been a huge control freak about laundry since my stepmother shrank my favorite sweater in 8th grade and barely let my husband do it, let alone strangers. However, times have changed, and I was unimpressed by the lack of proper social distancing and other precautions at my usual laundromat. I switched to Green Spin's pick up and delivery service and I have been so impressed. They are on time (if not early), reasonably priced (usually about $44 for two huge bags), communicative, and so incredibly friendly. I love the ease of booking and paying through an app. Clothes come back clean and well-folded and I've had no problems with shrinkage, etc. When this is over, I'll sadly go back to doing laundry myself but will absolutely continue to patronize Green Spin.
