I've loved with place when they had their first location in Hyde Park. Never dined in at this location, but If my work is wanting to order Sushi take out, this is our first option. My husband and I as part of our tradition order dinner for take out the day before Thanksgiving, and we agreed on Green Papaya. I love a good fresh roll from Vietnamese/Thai restaurants and Green Papayas was okay, I've had better. For my entree I had beef Pad Thai with a spice level of 3 which I think is the hottest. My Fresh rolls were tasty, packed well with plenty of greens, very light on the noodles and a few pieces of shrimp. I would've enjoyed a bit more noodles in the Fresh Roll. The peanut sauce was nice, actual peanuts and tasty, it went really nicely with the Fresh Rolls. My Beef Pad Thai was a good portion for the price, the beef was tender but could've used a bit of seasoning. The noodles were nice and chewy, the sauce lightly sweet with a light spicy (not spicy enough for my taste) kick, garnished with peanuts. My husband got the Chicken Satay and Chicken Fried Rice which he enjoyed. Overall, our first experience with Green Papaya went well. The takeout service was friendly and on time as promised. My lady and I were craving some sushi, and my lady's workplace had ordered from here before, so we thought we'd stop by for a lunch fix. I'd been to their other location but not this one. Still I was just as impressed here as I was there. Great service, delicious food, and a very laid back atmosphere. We stopped by around 1pm on Wednesday and it wasn't busy at all. We asked to sit outside and our server was perfectly okay with that. Their menu was bigger than I remembered and had lots of tasty Thai and sushi options. They also have great lunch specials daily. We started with a couple appetizers, the summer rolls and a fresh roll with shrimp, along with a bottle of Junmai Living Jewel sake. The rolls were excellent, especially the fresh roll, which was like a a fresh crisp salad wrapped in rice paper. The peanut sauce that came with it was tremendous. Then we ordered three sushi rolls; one spicy salmin roll, one temple roll, and one Philadelphia roll with spicy mayo. The rolls came out pretty quickly and all three were excellent. It was tough to pick a favorite because they were all great and so fresh. The sake paired very well with them too. Our server was very friendly and attentive, checking up on us several times. This may be my new go-to for Thai and sushi. We love that it's so close to where we live now and is so good. This place is beautiful and the food is top-notch. Very friendly and polite staff. I ordered takeout for my family for dinner, and I actually had to break into the crab rangoon appetizer before driving home, I just couldn't wait to try it, so fresh and crispy. We also got an order of the shrimp shumai which was divine. For our main course, we tried a bunch of the "healthy food with Chef" entrees and we liked them all. We ordered the cashew nuts, the green papaya garden, the hot Thai spicy sauce (my favorite) and the Queen City Rainbow. I appreciate the wide variety of fresh veggies in all of them. Service was slow and 3 of the 4 people who seated us/came to our table barely interacted with us. One of the four people who visited our table who was cheerful and interactive. Appetizer was delivered and then almost delivered again. Our 2 entrees were delivered to the table, but only 1 was correct. Correcting the entree took a few extra minutes wait. Room temperature was a bit chilly. Our food had good flavor, pleasing quantity, and appealing plating. I walked in about 20 minutes ago, someone came over on the phone and put menus on our table then proceeded to hunch over the counter and talk on the phone for 20 min. No one offered to get us a drink, take our order or said a word directly to us. The gentleman behind the sushi counter sat behind the counter the whole time. I tried this place after being past it numerous times! My friend was in town and we both love asian food and always seem to end up at a thai or vietnamese restaurant. I tried the crunchy pad thai and she got the hot thai spicy and they were both great! I also got the spring rolls and she got the edamame for appetizers and they were also yummy. I tried the thai tea boba and it was fine but not my favorite. I definitely would come back here and next time try the actual pad thai and the summer roll. I love to come here for Thai food! Medium is true-to-spice level (offers mild, medium, and hot). The green bean with chicken dish is SO good! The garlic sauce in the dish is so flavorful and tasty! The fried rice is also amazing! The pad see ew is good, a bit on the sweeter side than normal, for me. Still, very good and would order again. The rice comes in a cone presentation and it's so cute. Call this an initial impressions review because I only had one dish. I usually am skeptical when a restaurant calls themselves "fusion". In this case they serve both sushi and Thai food. I just had the Thai food but the sushi did look fresh. Restaurant is small but clean. The selection of Thai food was good. Actually, I'm quite encouraged by the dishes I saw on the menu. They even had a few I've never seen before. The spring rolls deserve a bit of a shout out. Very well prepared. However, I would've preferred the orders come in sets of four Vs three. We stopped in here last night for a late dinner before seeing a movie at Mariemont Theatre. We arrived at 8 p.m. and the place was empty, except for two women having wine at a back table. We were greeted, seated immediately and had a drink order taken. I noticed that the menu mentions that they do not use MSG in their food preparations and that's a huge plus for me, as I have a MSG intolerance and get sick from it. My husband ordered a Thai beer and the Paragon Fish. It's a steamed Chilean Sea Bass over spinach and broccoli. It's served with a side of white rice. I ordered the Hyde Park Roll and a small bowl of Miso Soup. The soup was brought out first. It had an off taste and I could not finish it. It even had a bad odor that could be smelled even when it wasn't sitting in front of me. My sushi roll was brought out quite a bit before my husband's dish - so I sat and waited until his meal was brought out. After quite awhile had passed the waitress saw us looking around and went in back to get his food. My sushi roll tasted fine but there was hardly any fish in it. The amount of fish was so small that I thought that it had been left out of the roll. It was mostly cream cheese. Also, the tuna was a weird grey-brown color that was concerning. My husband said the sauce on his dish was delicious. I tasted it and agreed it was quite good. It had the amount of heat that he ordered, which was the hottest offered. The broccoli in his dish was very cold, though. Also, several bites of his fish had such an off/spoiled taste that it made him gag. He did finish his dish but said later that the foul fish taste kept coming up. The service was incredibly slow for an empty restaurant. The servers were either on their phones or chatting amongst themselves the whole time. Luckily, we gave ourselves plenty of time to eat before the movie so it didn't affect us too much. We hadn't been here in awhile and had always had great service and awesome food. Wednesday night. Carry out order. Quoted 20-25 minutes. Arrive at 25 minutes and restaurant has 7 tables seated. No party larger than 5 and 3 tables have been served entrees already. After waiting another 15 minutes, I get the order. Sushi is place on top of the hot food, one order is prepared wrong and it will take them a minimum another 15 minutes to make it which means all the food would have to be remade. As some one else said, if you are in Mariemont, Mango Tree is much better. It make me sad because their other location has never given me troubles. read more

Green Papaya's 2nd location lives up to every high standard set by its Hyde Park predecessor. It is pretty, clean and cheery, you see familiar friendly faces, they take reservations (!), and the same menu offers all of the delicious dishes. Our family of three went several weekends back and we went a little crazy ordering. I know I couldn't stop, I wanted to gorge on all of my favorites! Green Papaya Roll (my favorite sushi roll in Cincinnati), tuna sashimi, pad see ew (hold the carrots, please), chicken Pad Thai (I have discipline, so I merely stole forkfuls from my spouse and child, yep), seaweed salad and deep fried crab stick. All soooo good! I lovelovelove Green Papaya, their food is one of my weaknesses, I even take Thai food-loving guests visiting from out of town here as a can't-miss-stop in Cincy. This second location of Green Papaya (the original is on Wasson in Hyde Park) is now open in Madisonville, in the location formerly occupied by Demetrios IV The have the same huge menu of thai specialties, some of which are rather hard to find at other local Thai eateries, including such dishes as pad woon sen, lad nar, choo chee curry etc etc in addition to the usual thai favorites like pad thai, red/yellow/green curry dishes, and tom yum soup. They also have a fairly extensive sushi menu. My absolute favorite item here is khao soi, also not found on most local thai menus - a northern thai specialty featuring chicken and both soft and crispy noodles in a rich curry broth. The version here is very good and very authentic, although to cater to American tastes they use boneless chicken in place of a piece of chicken like you'd see more commonly if you ordered this dish in Thailand A word of caution about any dish here containing curry - they seem to use a curry base (whether it is powdered or a paste, I am not sure) that already has some spice heat in it, so even if you order the very mildest heat level on dishes containing curry, it'll still be medium-ish hot. I'd estimate this at around a 3-4 on a 10 point scale, for sake of comparison to the heat scales at other Thai eateries I have been to. Oh, also - their spiciness scale is only 1, 2, or 3, with 1 being the mildest and 3 being the hottest. As such, be very careful moving up even one number, as its a much bigger leap in heat level than adding +1 at most other eateries of this sort. I liked that their crab rangoon has some sort of seafood - hopefully crab, but I cant be sure - in it. The prices here, as with most Thai restaurants, seem rather high for what you get, with dinners running 12 to 20 dollars for what is largely rice or noodles, with lunch somewhat more reasonable at 8 to 9 dollars. The portions for these prices also seem a bit skimpy. They have a bit more parking available than at Wasson, with their own parking lot that they dont share with other businesses. Some coworkers and I went out to lunch at this new Green Papaya location and were pleasantly surprised. I've never been to the Hyde Park restaurant so I can't speak to how it compares, but this place is worth a visit based on its own merits. We had a large group of 8 and were seated immediately when we arrived around 11:45 a.m. on a Thursday. The waitress took our drink orders as soon as everyone was seated. I ordered hot jasmine tea, which came in a large mug. (I was sort of hoping for a little teapot, but it was a big mug.) Though no one partook, I did notice that Green Papaya serves alcohol, which gives it a leg up on the Mango Tree, located nearby in Mariemont, which did not have a liquor license the last time I checked. We ordered crab rangoon, potstickers, spring rolls and mixed tempura appetizers to share, at the recommendation of our waitress. The food came out promptly and everything was appropriately hot. The crab rangoon is crisp and large, with a generous amount of filling. The spring rolls come two to an order, cut in half so you get four portions. They were crisp and tasty, as was the tempura. The vegetable potstickers were the one disappointing item. Instead of pieces of vegetables, they were filled with what looked like pureed spinach and maybe some other vegetables. The dumplings were limp rather than crisp and the filling was sort of bland. I did not care for the texture. But, on to the entrees. About half our party ordered sushi lunch boxes, which turned out to be a fantastic option. For $10.95 you get a bowl of miso or vegetable soup, 8 pieces of rolled sushi, a vegetable spring roll or edamame, a salad with ginger dressing, fruit (mine was orange slices), and a portion of rice, noodles or vegetable pad Thai. I went with sushi box #5, which came with 5 pieces of spicy salmon roll and 3 pieces of California roll. I also selected the miso soup and vegetable pad Thai. The soup was nice and hot, and savory with lots of tofu and not too much seaweed. It came out just as we were finishing the appetizers, so perfect timing! The sushi, as other reviewers have mentioned, is pretty small pieces, but with all that food on the plate plus our appetizers I was fine with that! The fish tasted fresh and the small pieces were easily managed with chopsticks. The spring roll was the same as the appetizer, so all good there. The salad was fresh and the dressing was good, but a bit watery--as if maybe the lettuce wasn't dry when they tossed it. Still good. The orange was a little meh, but what can you do? I promptly consumed all of the above. I probably could have eaten the pad Thai as well, but I held back. I was getting stuffed, and it was the one thing I knew I could take home and reheat. Plus, it was a pretty generous portion that ended up nearly filling the takeout box! I did give a taste as I boxed it up. The sauce was thick, sweet and savory; the noodles were cooked just right; and the pieces of vegetable and egg were large enough to be visible. In short, I'm looking forward to eating it as leftovers. I'm also very much looking forward to future lunches at the Green Papaya! As a final thought, I think the lunch boxes are a good size for the average person. Everyone else who ordered one finished it, but we were all very satisfied with the meal and the variety. If I hadn't had the appetizers, I probably could have finished mine. I would have been a bit full, but not overwhelmed. If you're a hungrier person, order some crab rangoon or another appetizer with your box. You can always take home the pad Thai if you don't finish it. ;-) read more

Green Papaya serves up reliably tasty Thai food. Last week, I actually ate at Green Papaya twice in one day -- lunch with a friend at the Hyde Park location and dinner with the family in Mariemont. It's been delicious every time. At Hyde Park, I asked the server for her recommended curry and had the Panang Curry for lunch. It was rich, spicy and super flavorful. At dinner, we started with the fresh roll, veggie dumplings and California roll for appetizers for our party of five. They were great and disappeared in a flash. I went for my firm favorite chicken pad Thai for my main course. It was generous and very good. My kids loved their basil pasta, fried tofu pad Thai and pineapple fried rich while my husband was very satisfied with his red curry. The service was excellent, too. read more

I ordered the Tom Yum (shrimp)for carry out due to a busy schedule and had sent my partner to pick up. I called back before he got there to make sure they threw in chili flakes because I needed it spicy due to a sinus cold I am experiencing. I wanted a comfort food that could make me feel better. Instead, my partner was met with grouchy service, I received chicken, not shrimp, the soup was too sweet (not my preference), there was chili sauce, not chili flakes. Went to Green Papaya for lunch today and had a potential major food allergy emergency. The lunch special is a fantastic deal! Got a bowl of the vegetable soup and the bento box which included 5 pieces of sashimi, salad, fried spring roll, two orange slices, and vegetable pad thai. All of this for under $11.. it was fantastic! I would've given this place 5 stars if it weren't for a food allergy issue. I very clearly told the server that I was allergic to red shellfish, anaphylaxis. I chose something off the menu that had no red shellfish in it but I always have to tell the restaurant in case of cross contamination. When the bento box came out, there was shrimp with the sashimi even though it was not listed in the menu. Cross contamination is why I stopped going to the Green Papaya in Hyde Park. We found shrimp fragments in the chicken pad thai after telling them that I had a severe shellfish allergy. I pointed the shrimp out today and they quickly fixed it but not thrilled that I had a similar issue of carelessness when it comes to food allergies. I think lunch was a great deal and everything was delicious but if you have a food allergy, stay away or triple check your food. I was very weary of if they had just taken the shrimp off or if they had redone the sashimi since it was touching the shrimp (yes, I'm that allergic).
